Emotionally distant cop Heath Prescott lost his beloved wife and finds her gay twin brother comforting—perhaps a little too comforting. A poignant and heart-wrenching short story presented in one installment.

Conceptually, I was onboard 100%. Grieving widower and his wife's twin brother, identical twin brother--wait for it...there, you got it. There's an explanation there, but totally not weird at all, in fact it was so wild that I checked and sure as the world is filled with amazing things you can have identical twins of different genders from a single embryo transfer. Case study for interested parties
This is so cool! My brain exploded a little bit.
And frankly, it was the best part of the yaoi-style story. This was just a slow transition relationship, which I don't mind, but it felt really glossed over and I was like "meh". Also, I think I was disappointed when my book ended at just over 50% because psychologically I was expecting and looking forward to more and then felt cheated. Cut to the chase, it didn't allow this pretty little bud of a story to bloom.
My rating for the story is 2 stars, but the concept and super cool single embryo transfer and dizygotic twins pushed it back up passed 2.5 stars so I am being really, really generous with a 3 star rating.
Okay I officially am just not a fan of this author. Given her 3 chances and this one was just...bad. A man's wife dies and he takes in her twin gay brother to combat both their grief. But he treats the brother like his housewife-slave and even calls him a "woman" on any accounts! He seemed so sexist, wanting someone at home to cook and clean for him, what a lazy sexist pig! The gay brother is no better, he plays the typical housewife roll and is even alright with being slapped by the other man! He forgives him instantly! Such unhealthy relationships, violence should not be condoned all because they are both men! Along with more bad editing, many missing words in sentences, and once again so many pronouns that I can't figure out who's doing what, left me confused and annoyed.
This book was awful. Truly awful, and I don't use those words lightly. Maybe the worst MM I've ever read.
Heath is an unapologetic misogynist who only seems to miss his wife because she cooked and cleaned for him. Without her, he's unable to clean his shower, cook for himself, or pick up any garbage.
The book progresses quickly and we meet Abbie's twin, Abel. He's described as weak and thin and looks just like his sister, hair and all. Hank eventually moves the abused Abel in with him and he's thrilled that Abel likes to "be domestic," and cook and clean his apartment for him. Yay! He can live again! He remarks that Abel makes "the perfect housewife."
He even tells his coworker that it's just too bad Abel isn't a woman...cuz you know, women are interchangeable, right? It's even good that he looks like your wife and has a name like your wife, so you won't have to remember anything new. He even wonders why Abbie couldn't have had a twin sister? You know, so he could just go get with her?
Abel doesn't seem to really miss his sister. At all. Or have any qualms about taking up with her husband less than a year after her death. He even pretends to be her to an elderly neighbor. They never talk about her, never cry about her, and he even tells Heath it's okay, I know that you're more upset than me. Really? Even though your twin died?? Aren't YOU more upset than him? You're the one who lost a twin. He can (and does) replace his wife; you can never replace your sister.
When Abel has a discussion with him about his feelings--or tries to--Heath grabs his arm. "Don't start acting like a woman. You're not a woman. I can't read your fucking mind." Isn't he lovely??
When he gets upset with Abel, he gets up in his face-- someone he has acknowledged is physically helpless and built like a woman (and someone who has been abused in the past) and calls him a f*****. Abel is out on a date, but Heath says to himself that gays don't date. They don't do dinner and a movie--gays only go to clubs and perform sex acts on one another. Offensive, much??
He tears up his own house because Abel has the nerve to be out on a date, and then tells Abel now he can busy himself cleaning it all up. Then, as if he hasn't been enough of a wildebeest, he strikes Abel to the floor.
Abel leaves and Heath tries to track him down. He reads on his blog that Abel is "alone again and without a place to live." Hearing that the man he loves is homeless and alone, what does Heath do? He closed his eyes with "exquisite relief" because Abel hadn't found someone else. Like I said. A real sweetheart.
Abel takes Hank back immediately like the pathetic dog he is...actually, that's an insult to dogs. Barely two words are exchanged before he sighs. "Oh, thank God this nightmare is over." We are left with the feeling that Heath only wants Abel because he cooks and cleans for him, and looks just like his dead wife.
I don't think there are enough words to describe how much I hated this book and both of the main characters. One star is too much.
I liked this short story. It's very short though. Only 90 pages long. It's about a cop who recently lost his wife ended up having to take in his wife's identical twin brother. The story is quite pleasant and the emotional building was fantastic. I just wish the love making in the end was a bit more detailed and could get an epilogue. I'm an epilogue gal and I always appreciate a peak in the future of MCs. Despite that, really a nice story.
I will add a warning here - if you are triggered by domestic abuse or the use of slurs, then you'll probably want to give this a pass. But if that is not a problem for you, then definitely check this out.
I was 100% into this story and the relationship...until Heath slapped him. And Abel forgave him. Justifying it with "I know the difference between a passionate outburst and domestic violence". Well...hmm...they tend to be the beginning and end of the same thing. And Heath's behaviour when Abel said he was on a date was overblown to the extreme. He's the one who didn't want Abel as more than a housemaid (lots of stereotypical hetero homophobic stuff here, about how being slim, soft, gently, liking cleaning and cooking etc make Abel a great housewife). He's the one who kept (sometimes creepily) comparing Abel to his dead sister, Heath's deceased wife. Honestly, while I was 100% devoted to them getting together until this point, I would have been THRILLED if Abel had kept his little tent, and gone on to find happiness with someone who didn't see him as a replacement for his dead sister, and who wouldn't hit him in a jealous pique of rage. There were a million other ways to have Abel leave the house for a few days, to give up on Heath, and spark the lightbulb moment for him, than to have Heath hit him. The guy was already escaping an abusive relationship, and this twist ruined it for me. And we never did find out what happened to Miguel. Did they ever catch that guy?
I wasn't expecting a really good story here. It was 100% a thirst read, but yet, even with these low standards, I was still massively disappointed, and worse, offended. The way Heath reacts when Abel does something he is less than happy with was beyond inappropriate. He throws shit around, calls him a f@g, and even hits him. The power dynamics are so messed up. Without Heath, Abel is essentially homeless, and Heath likes it that way. I wish I scrub my brain so that I could forget this shit.
This is a yaoi story meaning male and male love. They are as good as conventional romances but only if you have an open mind.
Heath has just lost his wife to cancer and he is a wreck. A policeman by day, his home reflected the mess he was in. His colleagues were worried but he only wanted to work.
A call from a colleague confuses his world further when he is faced with a nearly identical image of his wife, who was her twin brother. Feeling too much pain he decides to leave his contact details and go.
He is relayed another message at 4 in the morning that Abel, his wife's brother and only existing family was in hospital following an attack. Abel's ex wanted him back wrecking his home and hurting Abel. Heath had had enough. He took Abel home.
Memories of his wife made things hard but they found talking together helped both deal. They both knew where they stood until an incident turns their world around. It looks at two different worlds but finding common ground.
The story is a sweet love story. Not everything runs smoothly but that is life, real or not. The ending is wonderful. The story may be short but there is a lot happening. The only drawback was that it ended too soon, I wished for more from Heath and Abel.
This writer manages to enhance her characters so that you feel for them. She draws you in and gives you so much in just one small tale. She has definitely become an author I wish to read more from.
This was....weird. The whole I like my dead wife identical twin brother was not the weird part (trust me, I’ve read weirder) but just some little details.
Some details like “he is flamboyant, sits like a girl, he is so delicate but of course! He is gay, duh! Also he must be a bottom.” Sure, way to go with the stereotype there.
“You’d make a good housewife”
“Thanks”
*siiiiiiiigh*
Also domestic abuse, abuse against a previous victim of domestic abuse, sexism, misogyny, controlling behavior, homophobic slurs/attitude, yeah, no. Miss me with this shit.
Also how can he and his sister be identical twins if one is a boy and one is a girl? asks one of the MC and then the other spirals into a weird explanation “its because in vitro and we are not actually identical”. Newsflash: you can have a pair of identical twins, boy and girl; it is extremely rare but biologically possible. I feel like the author missed a little bit of research there.
You can go on and live without reading it. In fact, I encourage you do. I can’t believe people are giving this a 5 star rating and swearing “it’s so beautiful and sweet!!” Please, love yourself.
Heath was grieving the loss of his wife when her twin bother needed his help from an abusive ex. He would not open up to anyone, didn't even take time off work just to keep his body going. Abel had moved in with heath after the second time his ex came after him after he got out of jail. Then first week together Heath had broken down on him. What was the chance of falling in love your dead sisters husband. Heath had to come to grips he wanted another male. This was a sweet grieving book of love, loss and new found love.
World and have only really read 3 this being the 3rd it’s weird to see his BIL push him into a relationship.. I know he missed his wife and all.. but he was basically given an ultimatum and he conceded because he didn’t want to lose him. Because he brought him joy in remembering his deceased wife.
Well, conceptually- the book could be excellent. I was very excited. I'm not that triggered as some other reviewers are by the femboyish twin brother "domestic" behaviors, but I'm sad that chemistry wasn't built that good. We have one big leap from being straight to gay in one night, almost. From running away to jumping in bed together. Disappointing.
Heath is married to Abbie, but she gets sick and passes. Abbie has a twin brother, Abel, who moves in with Heath. They depend on each other and then things turn... romantic. This was honestly sad af. Yeah, you can say it's a hea but I think both Heath and Abel need therapy and not this relationship they develop.
I love the emotions in this book. Really hit all the levels. I love that each of the books I've read so far are so different unless they are part of a series. Then they still have a different curve to them. Definitely try all of her work.
I have some mixed feelings about this book. It's creepy and toxic through the whole story. 60% in the story ends and the author starts talking about herself and her other books. If you're looking for something to read I'd suggest you pass it up.
It had all the potential to be an excellent read but it was too short and it felt too rushed. Just as the story was getting good it ended. The much anticipated erotic scene fell flat. It was as if the author felt uncomfortable writing it.
It’s interesting but at the same time I think both their relationship was unhealthy towards one another. But I’m a sucker for relationships being together for all the wrong reason. I did not like heath hes abusive.
This was a very interesting read; a twin brother taking the place of his deceased sister with her husband. A struggle dealing with grief and what happens when reality sets in. Realizing your truth.
