Unaware of an age-old prophecy, secret societies, and an enemy she doesn’t know she has, Sophie Crenshaw thinks of herself as just being average. Along with her two best friends, Deva and Tabitha, Sophie sets off on what she thinks is a normal vacation. What she doesn't know is that everything she thought she knew about who she is, and what she can do, is about to change. While trying to understand his own feelings, Henry does what he can to support Sophie, and keep her from falling apart.
With the help of Willow Crest members, who are sworn to protect her, without ever meeting her, Sophie will struggle to get control of her feeling and new found powers. Or will it be too much for her to handle? Will their growing love give Sophie the strength and courage to face the greatest challenge of her young life?
Obsessive, compulsive, slightly crazed, but enough about her personality. First and foremost, Lisa Bilbrey is a mom to three and a wife to one. She loves to write, and spends the majority of everyday writing. It's who she is, and what she's meant to be doing. Words are her life, the air she breathes, and the nutrients of her soul.
Finding a love in the written word, Lisa Bilbrey started writing as a way to express herself and let her voice be heard. From the first word she wrote, she'd found her heart and soul.Always willing to learn, she's spends much of her time trying to improve as a storyteller.
Lisa's works include:
Life's Unexpected Gifts A Season of Change The Apartment Broken Hearts & Dusty Dreams Whispers of Time Gone By
--Angel's Heart Series: Angel's Heart: The Keeper Angel's Heart: The True Enemy
--The Journey Collection: The Journey Home: Book One The Journey of Champions: Book Two The Journey to Forever: Book Three The Journey to a New Life: Book Four
I should have learned by now that the first chapter of a book typically reflects what to expect in the rest of the book. The first chapter of Angel's Heart: The Keeper was boring with cliche characters and an overused backstory. If I had stopped after the first chapter, I would never have guessed how bad this book could possibly be. It was the literary equivalency of Honey Boo Boo and felt like fan-fiction of all the popular paranormal books mixed together. In fact, if you piece together the worst parts of every paranormal book on the market, it STILL might be better than this book.
Sophie is a depressed, unemployed orphan with a beautiful best friend that stinks of narcissism and another one that really didn't have a personality. Her best friends decide to surprise her with a vacation to Hawaii. On the plane flight, the three girls meet three sexy, mysterious boys...and surprise, surprise, guess what happens?
Well, apparently Sophie is the most magical being to ever walk the Earth and her magical powers are unlimited. Not just that but her parents aren't dead but rather being held captive by a villain that has less character development and personality than Maleficent in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
And that mysterious boy Sophie meets on the plane she falls madly in love with and loses her virginity to him twice - yeah once on page 86 and once on page 124. The only other character I've ever seen do this is Rhapsody by Elizabeth Hayden. Not only that, but they become accidentally marked for life, which is a very rare thing (yet half a dozen characters in the novel also had it happen).
The end reminded me of Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. There's a huge buildup to the final battle and when it happens, you're like "that's it?". Also, the plot is nicely wrapped up 2/3rd of the way through the book. What happens after is nothing more than Sophie whining about how much her life sucks, despite there being NOTHING wrong with her life at this point. And every character coddles her. There's one character that calls her out for being childish and she whips him into shape with her Mary-Sue powers.
The only reason I was able to finish the book was because it had, at least, been properly edited. If the author does the exact opposite of what she did with Angel's Heart: The Keeper, then the sequel will be phenomenal. (F)
Great book. I enjoyed the character development and was sucked in from the get go. I'm big on descriptive work and Lisa Bilbrey creates the scenes, giving the reader plenty to go on.
Received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The novel started promisingly and I enjoyed the first chapter as it set the scene and introduced the characters well, but after that I found my concentration slipping. This was mostly due to Sophie’s constant crying (I know her life gets turned upside down but still), overly-used words (for example, groused) and the odd sentence that I had to re-read. I found the villain Whitley slightly disappointing; she’s supposed to be really evil but the only bad thing she seems to do in the book is pull people’s hearts out. I felt like Sophie defeated Whitley too easily as well. I’m glad that Sophie accepts her destiny though, and finds happiness with Henry, even if their relationship is very intense. I give this book 2 out of 5 stars – I found it okay. It wasn’t for me but others may enjoy it.
Angel's Heart hits the ground running; you don't really stop until you reach the end, and are left wondering: Where's the rest? But not in the bad way; in the good way of you want more.
Watching the page count climb as I worked my way through the book was bittersweet; I wanted to know what was going to happen next, but knew that every page turned would take me closer to the end. Bilbrey writes with a smooth flowing style that lets you envision the lush island all around without losing focus of the story line and her amazing characters. There is never a dull moment with the large ensemble of unique cast that make up the story.
In my opinion, Angel's Heart is a great YA – more to the adult side of the spectrum – novel. A handful of well placed swear words, a fantasy 'first time' that should go down as one of the best, and a spiteful aunt hell bent on violent revenge all tip the scales toward making this a tale for more mature readers.
If you like using your imagination and escaping into a world of magic, beauty, and the love of soul mates, then Angel's Heart: The Keeper is for you. Grab your copy, get cozy, and sit back for Bilbrey's adventure where Hawaii is just one stop on her fanciful journey!
I have say that I totally loved Angel's Heart: The Keeper by Lisa Bilbrey, even though it is not my typical genre.
Sophie has suffered great loss in her life. Her mother died at birth and her father had been dead now a year. Sophie, an aspiring artist, has now been rejected by the owner who had been showing her work. Her two best friends Deva and Tabitha talk her into going on a vacation. This is where the real action is. On the plan she meet Henry Chang and sparks immediately fly.
What Sophie doesn't know is that Henry lives in a world of magic. Even bigger than that news is that Sopie, herself, is also magic. One of the most important people in the magic world. She is the Angel's Heart which will put her in great danger.
Sophie has to come to grips with not only her powerful magic but also betrayal that rocks her to her core. Everything she has believed is not so. There were so many secrets kept from her.
Angel's Heart: The Keeper hooks you from the beginning and propels you into the story. So glad that Lisa Bilbrey is writing more. I definitely will be reading any and all books in this series.
Rating- 4.5 STARS! REVIEW- The Keeper is a realistic take on the supernatural. First of all, the pace was fast throughout, which made the story even more compelling. The storyline is very intriguing. Bilbrey has included very engaging elements throughout, which I can't even begin to describe, while doing the story justice at the same time. The characters were very well developed and their reactions to the plot, was what made the story realistic in a way. While I generally don't have a cemented opinion on the main character, for Sophie, I did. I despised her! She seemed a bit too opinionated and childish. But this is what the story required exactly. My favourite character was Eleanor as I had a deep down feeling that she was essential to the story. I have high hopes for her in the sequel, which by the way, I CANT WAIT TO READ!!! Overall, I am very glad I had the chance to glance into Lisa Bilbrey's imagination. I don't think anyone else could've done the story justice. Be sure to put this on your TBR list ;)
~Thank you to Renaissance Romance Publishing, the author, and Jitterbug PR for the ARC of this book in exchange for a review … a review that was given with lots of love and honesty. It was my pleasure to have the opportunity to read this incredible book.
I just finished reading Angel's Heart :The keeper and I loved it. I read straight through. The story drew me in from the first word. and kept me there til the end. Strong characters ,,fate, destiny, betrayal, true love. This story is about a young woman named Sophie, who appears to have lost everything including her identity. Join her and her friends on the journey to discovering just who Sophie is and what she was born to do.
Now that we got that out of the way, let me explain my four star rating. I would have given 5 stars but there were just too many blatant mistakes. Plus Sophie irritated the hell out of me with her bratty attitude. Once you get passed her selfishness an the mistakes, you find a really interesting story. I'm excited to read part 2, and hope our heroine has grown up a lot.
You ended it there? Seriously?! At least there's another book following. This was a very good book. Its really neat how you incorporate some of your ideas from your fanfics into your novels. Very awesome! Can't wait for book 2!
I can't believe that I haven't rated this book before. Great characters and a great story. The conflict is genuine and didn't want to put it down while I was reading it. Probably my favorite story from the author.
