Is your marriage the one you pictured when you said 'I do'? Is the passion still hot, the friendship still warm, and the relationship still meaningful? If not, you owe yourselves this book, delivered to you in the vulnerable style that has become the author's trademark. Written by Patrick Morley, the award-winning author and pioneer men's leader, Devotions for Couples invites you to come together and let God's Word do some searching, encouraging, and strengthening of your hearts . . . and your marriage. Both profound and practical, these 120 devotional readings will help you apply biblical truths to deepen your relationship, communicate better, understand each other, learn about what pulls you apart and how to stay together, raise your children, and share a future filled with grace, faith, growth, and appreciation of one another.
Morley is clearly abusive to his wife. According to his book: he said something that upset her because he just HaD tO GeT iT oFf hIS cHEsT. Afterwards , she locked herself in the bathroom crying so he decided to BREAK DOWN THE DOOR TO CONSOLE HER. He then talked about how much better it made him feel but, oops, it took his wife a few more days to recover.
He's abusive to her in front of their kids, writing about making them cry over how he yelled "in front of his wife but not at her" for a bad paint job that a contractor did while she was home. They even asked him why he was being mean to her.
He also admits to kicking holes in his garage wall out of anger , yet considers his wife to be the emotional one.
One star earned for burning so nicely in my campfire.
My wife and I got this book from our church after completing a pre-marriage class. We loved this book and intend to give it as a wedding gift to young couples. This book helps couples of any age talk about big issues, pray and put God at the center of their relationship.
Many vital topics come up that many times wouldn't have been raised but for the book. It is also hard to be mad at someone when you are talking to God with them. We are going to read other couple devotionals together. Ending the day and beginning the day in prayer with your spouse is so important.
