This is one of my All Time Favorite RPGs. Yes, it is a rather short book, but it drips theme, style, and delivers on its premise. It is a horror roleplaying game. But unlike games such as Call of Cthulhu, where exploring and embedding oneself into the horror is part of the fun, Little Fears builds tension and plays on some of the most basic fears of all.

The player characters are not heroes. They are little kids, usually six to ten years old. They live in a world where the bogeyman really does snatch kids, there really is a monster in the closet, and nightmares can come to life. And adults simply don't believe them.

Characters have very few stats, and the mechanics can be summarized on a business card for reference. But some of the most memorable, spine-tingling, and genuinely creepy game sessions have come from Little Fears by putting kids in these difficult situations and having to make sometimes truly dreadful decisions to survive or protect those who don't realize just how frightening the world really is.

It is a game about kids, but is definitely NOT a game for kids. It covers a lot of terrifying topics, including some that most adults would prefer not to think about.
