Sticking to codes of moral conduct is no longer an option. Laura’s tried that before and failed miserably. With a second chance at life, she’s determined to make society play by her rules for a change.

Richard has secretly cultivated Laura’s talents for years, waiting for the perfect moment to pull her into his tangled web. It’s difficult enough to clone a child using DNA from an ancient shroud, but convincing Laura to help him might prove to be the bigger challenge.

With her own agenda in mind, Laura takes on the cloning project and is plunged into a world filled with secret societies, deception, murder and…apparitions? As her perception on reality shifts, Laura begins to question everything. What if Richard’s quest to create a clone to save humanity, is instead, The Perfect Clone for destruction?

I have an unshakable fetish for a good mystery and anything paranormal, along with an insatiable appetite for coffee and travel. When I'm not reading the wonderful creations from other authors, I'm creating stories of my own.

My family keeps me grounded, my pets keep me jumping, my friends keep me focused, and it all happens in Texas!

The author displays an excellent use of characters that relate to the story as a whole and to each individual character. Very few books have I read that turn and surprise me. With each introduction of a new character, I found myself letting down my guard of deciding how the person or situation tied together. Before long, I was pulled into the story, one of the operating characters myself trying to figure out how the situation would resolve as if I was one myself.
Her style of writing is one a book reader longs to come across and when it ends, you find yourself longing for another book by the same author.
I look forward to more from ML Stephens!

Wow! This book is another brilliant book by M.L Stephens. It's very different from other works that I've read of hers but I enjoyed it none the less. The different characters that you learn about in the beginning really give you an insight into the book. As all of them come together the realization of what is to happen comes clear.
NWL is trying to bring about a miracle and Laura, Sarah, and Igor are the ones who are going to make this miracle happen.
Richard, Luke, and Cara are the glue that really holds this story together. They take security to a whole 'nother level when it comes to keeping the project under wraps and away from the public eye.
This may not be a story for everyone but for anyone who can get into it, they are transported into a whole 'nother world. A world that lies out of the public's eye. NWL is basically a different universe. Everything happens underground and nothing is revealed until they want it to be.
As I got towards the end of the book the action picked up and so did the suspense. I can't wait to read book 2. M.L. Stephens is the master at cliff hangers.

This book is also a speculative fiction with religious undertones

I downloaded The Perfect Clone for free on Kindle, since it's fun to read the beginnings of series risk-free. I've read worse, but I'm glad that I didn't pay for this book. The lurid worldwide and through history conspiracy of a plot could have been really fun, but the stark seriousness and mostly nondescript characters make it a bit dull. I did get attached to one character, the incredibly ordinary Sarah, but once I got to like her, the book abruptly abandoned her for some out-of-nowhere military action. It was jarring and felt disjointed. Beyond that, the comma errors in this book drove me crazy.

As I got towards the end of the pre-fighting-rebels-in-the-woods part of this book, I was getting into it enough that I was curious about how the rest of the series would go. As it is, however, the cliffhanger ending left me with no curiosity. This is far from the worst thing I've seen on Kindle, but so much is going on in The Perfect Clone that it becomes an overwhelming mess.

I am not sure I understand the positive reviews this book has received. In the very beginning of the book the author established that he/she knew nothing about cloning, which is the central premise of the book. When the author stated in the book that a clone could be made from male sperm, I persisted in reading the book thinking there was some unique aspect of cloning in a SciFi sense coming. Alas, I was wrong. A basic biology class would have helped this author. Then there are the characters, right out of a GI Joe comic who are as vulgar and crass as the characters out of a Die Hard movie. What's worse is these characters are supposed to be the front line of defense in a plan to bring back Jesus Christ. Oh my.
