After turning to Google to help me learn about planting plants, I took to the library and picked up this slim tome. It was an easy read and gave me all the confidence I needed to start planning my very first vegetable garden. Two green thumbs up!
Very much an introductory book, but I think it covers a wide array of topics and walks beginners through the basics of starting a garden. I was pleased that it also includes ideas and solutions for senior and disabled gardeners. I grew tired of the author suggesting to do further research on subjects, but it is very upfront about being a quick introduction to gardening. I think it's a good starting point for new gardeners but more experienced gardeners will probably want to read a book that goes into more depth.
One or two interesting things in this book, but overall, I got tired of the "hey, here's a cool thing you can do, but go find another resource to learn about how." I suppose that's the danger of writing such a tiny primer on such a vast topic. Also, this book could use some editing. There were a couple of places where the second half of sentences were completely missing.
This was a relatively quick and easy read and is a great basis for an introduction to gardening. If you are not a beginner gardener you likely don’t need to read this book. It overviews types of gardens, types of plants, maintenance and closing the garden.
I found it easy to read, and very informative. Some of the language was a little clunky, but it's not a novel. Glad I've got it to help me get started with my garden.
Quick read . Great book if you are looking to start a garden. Has some good tips and good starting points. Wouldn’t recommend if you are an experienced gardener, as this book is for the beginners.
