Gabriella Poole is a pseudonym used by Gillian Philip.

I live in the north-east highlands of Scotland, with one husband, two children, three dogs (Cluny, Milo and Otto), two psychotic cats (the Ghost and the Darkness), a slayer hamster (Buffy), three chickens (Mapp, Lucia and Mrs Norris) and a lot of nervous fish. I have taken a solemn vow not to get any more pets. I will probably break this vow.

Writing for a living is (a) what I always wanted to do; (b) occasionally frustrating; (c) a lot of fun – I take dictation from the characters in my head, who spend their lives telling me what’s going to happen next.

But I like it that I never know just how it’s all going to end – not till the fat lady sings, the villain meets a suitably sticky end, and the boy gets the girl (or indeed the boy).

Life Of The Party, Mind’s Eye, Sea Fever and Cyber Fever have been published by Evans Brothers, and short stories The Changeling, Rockface, Misty and The Kindest Cut appear in their sci fi, crime, ghost and comedy collections. And I ghostwrite fiction for companies including Hothouse and Working Partners.

I ain´t so sure if it´s just because I´m in the middle of my exam(examination, testing..?? or how you call it) period, but I have to say I loved the book. It really made my day, not thinking about something to read to school, just something easy, "without deeper meaning" but worth of reading.
There was romance, love, intriges, danger, "spirit-eaters", all kinds of difficulties. Excitement, sadness and all other feelings that were going through my body when reading this book. It was just perfect. I would even admit that better than the first book - it´s probably because I like danger and adventures in books I read. This one had everything and because of that I have to admit again it was breathtaking, awesome, loved it. I just needed one afternoon, only few hours to read it - read it on one breath..

At the end of Secret Lives, Cassie was tricked by Richard and abducted by a small group of the Few who were under Madame Azzidene’s orders. A bound and gagged Cassie was forced to become a host for Madame Azzidene’s spirit Estelle. Ranjit, Jake and Isabelle interrupted the initiation ceremony in a rescue attempt and as a result only half of Estelle’s spirit fused with Cassie’s. In Blood Ties, the second installment in the Darke Academy series, Cassie is back at the children’s home on a Christmas break. Her struggle to host the malevolent Estelle and keep her own sense of self while trying to ignore the gnawing hunger that demands to be satisfied is starting to take its toll. She returns to the Darke Academy, this time in New York and to her relief is reunited with her friends Ranjit, Isabelle and Jake.

Sir Alaric warns Cassie that she must feed soon and that he will help her to do it the safe way. To Cassie’s amazement Isabelle offers to be her life force but the two are forced to conceal this from Jake who is still trying to bring the culprits responsible for the death of his sister to justice. Jake hacks into the FBI Computers and now must race against time to save himself being captured by the FBI and turned over to the Elder Council of The Few.

Ranjit urges Cassie to get to know the other Few members who welcome her to the fold. Cassie learns that some members of the Few are hosts to both strong and weak spirits. To her surprise, Richard’s spirit is weak. Ranjit along with Cassie has a very strong spirit and as a result the Few recognise their status as such.

Cassie discovers she has powers that are lacking in the other Few members and at first manages to conceal them. With Estelle bent on taking control of Cassie’s body it becomes harder and harder for Cassie to conceal. When an old enemy returns, bent on revenge, Cassie is tested to the limit. Can she rescue her friends from a horrific fate, or will she end up destroying them to save herself?

This is a slighter darker book than the first. While Cassie and Isabelle become closer and her romance with Ranjit blossoms, Cassie struggles to keep Estelle’s manipulative tendencies at bay. It was slightly convenient that Katerine’s mother was on the Elder’s Council. Jake’s whole attitude has become annoying in this installment, granted that he wants to bring his sister’s murderers to justice. He’s out of his league however and it’s only by Cassie quick thinking that he lives to see another day. The scene where Jake was about to be fed to the Living Soil was vivid and disturbing.

Once again I found myself exasperated by Cassie’s choices and her ability to just not hear what people who are trying to help her are trying to tell her. Examples are Patrick, Ranjit and Sir Alric. Both Cassie and Ranjit’s obviously have a bad history and apparently are a lethal combination, but instead of understanding Ranjit’s caution and Sir Alric’s concern, Cassie rebukes them both. Richard redeemed himself in this installment by telling Cassie Jake’s possible whereabouts.

Prišlo mi to ako taký slabý odvar Upírskej Akadémie. Nápady mala autorka fajn, ale prevedenie bolo extrémne slabé a nič vo mne nevyvolalo žiadne emócie. Chýbali mi rozvinuté vety, súvetia, popis emócii. Keď už je kniha písaná z prvej osoby, chcem vidieť v nej viac ako len obal, chcem ju spoznať zvnútra. Neverila som ani jednému vzťahu, či už partnerskému alebo priateľskému. Hlavná hrdinka sa dala zniesť, aj keď mala momenty kedy išla sama proti sebe.

Cassie is a bit different since the last book but she try to remain as her own self, even though it's kind of hard since she now must learn how to deal with her "new" life. There are certain rules she has to follow but she has a hard time to accept them. And she can't just ignore the voice inside her either. Even though she doesn't want to feed but hunger as long as she can 'cause she can't stand the fact the fact the way she must feed - but she also know that she can't starve. She also discovers a hidden power that even Sir Alric Darke or any members of The Elders have heard about and that makes them a little nervous. Will Cassie manage to stay out of trouble or will she eventuallly accept her new self and will Sir Alric Darke and The Elders find about how she use her new hidden power?

Blood Ties is a very interesting and truly exciting follow up, especially at the end and we get to know the characters a whole lot more. And it's impossible to get bored. Read it and enjoy. Like I said in the last post: Darke Academy deserves a lot more attention!!!

The reason I am rating this book so highly is that I understand the correlation the storyline has with the real world we are living in. So in the first book, we find out there is a secret society within a prestigious school. But now we find out after these selected members graduate, they play a bigger part in the world. *AHEM* Illuminati *COUGH*. Those of you who's done research in that aspect would know what I'm talking about.

I love the Cassie character. She's strong-willed and powerful. I don't quite get why Isabella would willing let Cassie feed off her though. Anybody with a healthy amount of skepticism would question if there's something more to it. But it is what it is haha.

The ending was climatic. Loved it!

While the main plot between what was going on between Katrina, her mother, Jake, and all of that was pretty bland compared to the other book, the expansion of the world was great. Overall the the strength of the book does not rely in it the main plot, but in the character development. Over the coarse of the novel the main protagonist goes from fearing who she was and the soul trapped inside her, to having an understanding of it.

A mi me gustó demasiado, me encanta que le da continuidad al primer libro y me parece muy bien hecho, me encanta como desarrollan la trama del personaje principal al no unir las 2 almas, pero que aún así sea demasiado poderosa, es demasiado tétrico e interesante lo que hacen con esos pobres chicos. Sin lugar a dudas un libro que te consume y te hace salir de la realidad, mucho amor para la autora.

Ok Cassie really really annoyed me in this one - she made some uber selfish decisions and I struggled to justify them in my head. It's a bit of a book downer when you want to batter the main character with their own book.

Still intrigued about where it's all going and where it will end.
I'm invested now. Onto book 3, and then will read the final instalment.

Sometimes, the second book in the series is not as good as the first one. But this was not the case. Still fast pacing, easy to read, interesting, and incredible. There was tension, love, hate, and a very good description of places and characters. This book is gorgeous, just as was the first one.

Prva knjiga ovog serijala mi se dopala. Bila je poprilično zanimljiva i pozitivno me iznenadila na kraju, kada sam otkrila o kakvim je stvorenjima ovdje riječ. Međutim, drugom knjigom nisam naročito zadovoljna i sasvim sam sigurna, da s obzirom na prvu, ovo može mnogo bolje. Priča je postala sumorna i predvidljiva. Opet, s druge strane postoji par elemenata koji i nisu tako loši. Iskreno se nadam da će naredna knjiga biti bolja.

I shall inform you that this review contains quite a few spoilers.
I just couldn't help myself.
I'm so sick and tired of all this. Not so much plot and situation, as characters.
Godh, I hate some chars of this book. I really do.

Anyway.
I was torn between 1 and 2 stars, but as you can see I stuck with 2, firstly because I respect the author and all the hard work and effort she made for this particular book and series, and secondly because there indeed were some times that the pages actually flew by quite quickly. Not many, but they existed.
So, to be more specific.

After the first 100 pages, and specifically after the big fight between Cassie and Ranjit, the book started getting a little higher on my respect. Just a little, don't get your hopes up.

The reason is because I plainly hate Ranjit. I loathe him. I absolutely do.
Okay, I can get all this exotic beauty and mysteriousness surrounding him, but that's it.
I don't have the slightest idea why Cassie would ever want to be with him.
He used to date a girl that looks exactly like her. Didn't that give her a hint? From the first time he laid eyes on her he gave her a special treatment, and I didn't quite see him making any movements on getting to know her before he decided he wanted to hook up with her. And, I don't care if it was their spirits wanting to unite that ushered them to start kissing, all of a sudden. It was plainly wrong. And when he confused her name with Jess', oh, I so much found it entertaining. I actually felt relieved. Because Cassie might have realized that she may be a replacement. And, it doesn't matter if "it was only at the beginning, and then he got ot know her better" and blah blah blah. Ugh. I'm so angry. Gee. I can't believe a simple character can get me so worked up. Unless, that's the point. And what's worse? When he dared to go and apologise he didn't even mention anything about the whole "Jess' name incident". What a coward.

I'll jump now to the subject "Jake". Another character I simply loathe. And, it's understandable. He wants to avenge his sister and all that. But, on his way, he's determine to crash anything and everything that could hold him back. He was actually starting to feel very friendly towards Cassie, up until against her will a part of a spirit entered her and became Part-Few. And, again, I really do not know what Isabella is doing with him. Honestly. She just came second, can't she see it? She's so blinded by love? He was in love with Katerina, and the only thing that could make that fling subside would be exactly what happened. Katerina proved to be his sister's murderer. In no other way, would Jake ever give Isabella a chance. And, actually like her, so that makes him all that much more hated for me.

I'll ramble about the third boy, too. Richard. A hot topic. A chameleon. So weak. But, so determined to help Cassie. I actually believe that if in the third book (which I really don't know if I'm going to read, by the way) Cassie doesn't end up with this Ranjit, he will definitely have a chance. He wanted to make her special than any other of his hits, if not from the beginning, from a well-defined part of the story. I can't actually recall the incidents before he tricked hr to the trap that led to her partial unison with the spirit, but he believed he did the wright thing. And, my feelings toward him are just a bit less mixed than Cassie's.

And, speaking of the protagonist, I actually got to like her even more when she dumped Ranjit. When she proved how strong she is. She's independable. Of course, I'd love to see her with someone in the future, but definitely none of the characters we've met 'till now. I do have a suspicion about the cointinuation of the story, though.

Anyway.
To add to all this, I must say that the style of writing didn't really magnetize me. Especially, the fight scenes. Not quite intriguing. In a big part of the book I actually found myself being distracted.
I don't know, I don't know. I'm so confused.
And certainly sure I'm going to rewrite this review.
I need to be calmer to do it, though.
I wrote it and I was so angry, it is totally unfair to the author.
To sum up, I just stated my personal opinion, I'm open to hear others, too, and if I'm too aggressive I'm sorry, but not half an hour has passed since I ended reading it, and my anger is still fresh. Gosh, I even don't know why I got so upset about Ranjit. Because, he's the main cause of it. And, then Jake. Ugh.

Cheguei à conclusão que um MONTE desta geração de livros (sobrenaturais ou não) YA é escrita como bolos (devia tentar escrever um), por receita:

Ingredientes:
- Escola privada SUPER cara e exclusiva (ou local estranho e aborrecido)
- Protagonista pobre, e não pertence à elite (sabor "Cabra" ou "Mosquinha Morta" -- ou como a Bella Swan, a horrível mistura "Mosquinha Morta Cabra")
- Gang de snobs e meninas ricas que fazem a vida miserável à protagonista e que não têm nada que se aproveite, apesar que seres humanos geralmente TÊM-no.
- Melhor Amiga que é Exótica e meia Louca, também uma outcast (e podre de rica)
- Segunda melhor Amiga que é distraída mas um génio.
- Gajo bom e misterioso, com grandes poderes, como love interest.
- Gajo bom e malvado, que se apaixona também pela protagonista.
- Raça sobrenatural, com características vampíricas, ainda que não sejam vampiros -- ou que convenientemente não tenham TODAS as características.

Misturar protagonista na escola sem avisar, batendo com vigor. Acrescentar um plot fraco, onde protagonista chega à escola onde não pertence, é imediatamente posta em conflito com as bad girls, e acaba por descobrir poderes superespeciais. Misturar rapaz bonitão que tão depressa é mau como mostra estar apaixonado pela protagonista. Acrescentar figuras de autoridade batidas em castelo, deixar cozer por 200 páginas e servir.

Esta receita é horrível. O sabor é demasiado complicado, e adocicado. Há bons livros YA que seguem a fórmula, mas o que os torna bons é como pegam nos ingredientes e os misturam de forma diferente (por exemplo, a série Gallagher Girls), como quando a minha mãe usava chalotas em vez das já costumeiras cebolas, para o sabor ser melhor -- ou até removendo alguns dos ingredientes.


Vou fazer o review dos 3 livros, porque francamente, não vale a pena estar a dedicar-me a cada um deles individualmente. Darke Academy não foge à regra. Uma série sobrenatural de YA, que tenta aproveitar a popularidade das histórias de escolas privadas e do sobrenatural. Tenta também "idealizar" vampiros (que em vez de sangue, bebem energia vital). A protagonista Carrie, é pobre, abandonada pelos pais (e uma cabra resmungona), que, sem se saber porquê é mandada para a Darke Academy para estudar.

Lá, entra em conflito com o gang de Cabras Ricas e Snobs, arranja uma melhor amiga (Isabella) que é toda flamboyant e rica, e apaixona-se por um rapaz misterioso (Ranjhit) que tão depressa se baba para ela, como a trata abaixo de cão.

Com o passar do tempo, começa a descobrir a existência de uma elite dentro da escola, os Few, bando de gajos ricos e muito misterioso, respeitados por todos, incluindo os profs..

Spoiler! :
Vimos a saber que são vampiros, mas que não são bem vampiros, tem dentro de si os espíritos de seres muito antigos, que necessitam de beber a "força vital" (não sangue) de seres humanos - só que apesar de não beberem sangue têm caninos afiados. Não se sabe porquê.

A heroína é transformada por acidente, e, para além de ficar linda de morrer (faz parte do Pacote de Transformação), fica também super poderosa porque a sua transformação é interrompida, e torna-se, eventualmente, uma espécie de rainha dos Few, porcausa dos seus "Poderes" maiores que os de toda a gente.


E passamos os livros com ela a lutar contra:
- as figuras de autoridade (o director da escola, de quem tenho muita pena, porque ele passa a vida a ajudá-la)
- as snobs lindas que a odeiam
- a sua "inner beast"

O primeiro livro é a chegada dela à escola e a descoberta dos Few e a sua transformação.
O segundo livro lida com os poderes da heroína e ela a lidar com a vida de Few - e conflitos amorosos.
O terceiro livro envolve a morte de alguns alunos Few.

Em suma: demasiado angst, demasiada mary-sue, plot indiferente, só o director da escola, a escola, e melhor amiga da heroína se salvam - nem o Gajo Bom é interessante.

Inhalt:
Seit Cassie im letzten Trimester während eines Rituals der Auserwählten einen Teil des Geistes Estelle in sich aufgenommen hat, gehört sie selber zu ihnen und muss sich von der Lebenskraft anderer Menschen nähren um zu überleben. Doch alles in ihr sträubt sich dagegen, da sie Angst hat, ihnen Schaden zuzufügen. Nachdem Cassie ihr Hunger nach Lebenskraft in den Ferien gewachsen ist, kann sie sich auf dem Weg zurück zur Dark Academy, die diesmal in New York geöffnet hat, kaum noch beherrschen, die Menschen in ihrem Umfeld nicht auszusaugen. Von Sir Alric, dem Leiter der Akademie, soll sie nun lernen sich zu nähren ohne jemandem Schaden zuzufügen. Dabei muss sie sich entscheiden, ob sie die Lebenskraft ihrer besten Freundin Isabella nehmen oder doch hierfür lieber eine neue Mitbewohnerin in ihr Zimmer bekommen möchte, zu der sie keine emotionale Bindung hat. Keine leichte Entscheidung für Cassie.

Neben diesen Problemen versucht eine glückliche Beziehung zu Ranjit, einem mächtigen Auserwählten, zu führen. Doch da Cassie sich und die anderen Auserwählten immer noch als böse ansieht, krieselt es oft in der Beziehung. Als wäre das noch nicht genug, begegnen sie bei einem Date ihrer Feindin aus dem ersten Teil, wobei Cassie sich auch noch Probleme mit dem Ältestenrat der Auserwählten einhandelt. Wird Ranjit ihr bei alldem beistehen?

Meine Meinung:
Auch der zweite Teil der "Dark Academy"-Trilogie von Gabriella Poole lässt sich mit seinen knapp 300 Seiten schnell und einfach durchlesen. Erzählt wird die Geschichte in der Er-/Sie-Perspektive aus Cassies Sicht.

Die Geschichte fängt zu Weihnachten in Cassies Waisenhaus an, wo sie fast über ihren Betreuer hergefallen wäre vor Hunger nach Lebensenergie. Diesen Einstieg fand ich sehr gut, da dem Leser so wieder Cassies neues "Problem" vor Augen geführt wird und man auch direkt erkennt, was passieren könnte, wenn sie sich weiterhin weigert zu lernen, wie man sich vernünftig nährt, ohne jemandem Schaden zuzufügen. Anfangs bleibt Cassie natürlich noch stur, so dass man ihr als Leser zwischendurch gerne mal die Meinung sagen würde. Doch im Laufe der Geschichte entwickelt Cassie sich weiter lernt den Geist Estelle in ihr teilweise zu akzeptieren.

Wen ich richtig super in der Geschichte fand war Isabella. Sie ist und bleibt eine wunderbare Freundin und nimmt diese ganze Geister-Geschichte wesentlich gefasster auf als Cassie. Dafür ist sie mir echt total ans Herz gewachsen. Mit Jake, für den sie ja schon länger geschwärmt hat und mit dem sie Ende des ersten Teiles endlich zusammen gekommen ist, ist sie auch richtig niedlich, auch wenn Jake alleine ein totaler Idiot geworden ist. Warum, müsst ihr selbst herausfinden ;)

Was mich an der ganzen Geschichte ein bisschen gestört hat, war diese oberflächliche Liebesgeschichte zwischen Cassie und Ranjit. Ich verstehe einfach nicht, warum die beiden zusammen sind, da sie sich ja kaum kennen. Es ist halt mal wieder so eine typische "Liebe-auf-den-ersten-Blick"-Geschichte, die ich als Leser dieses Mal aber irgendwie nicht nachvollziehen konnte, weil sie nicht wirklich Tiefgang hatte. Der Spannung in diesem Buch hat dies aber nicht geschadet.

Fazit:
Alles in allem ist der zweite Teil der "Dark Academy"-Reihe wieder ein spannender Mix aus Internatsgeschichte und Fantasy, wobei der Internatsteil hier ein bisschen kleiner ausgefallen ist, als im ersten Teil, und die kleine Liebesgeschichte zwischen Ranjit und Cassie eher gewirkt hat, als ob sie der Vollständigkeit halber rein müsste. Insgesamt hat mir das Buch jedoch wieder gut gefallen und bekommt von mir 4 von 5 Sternen.

Setkáváme se s vyhladovělou Cassie, která bojuje proti nutkání popadnout nejbližšího člověka a vysát z něho život. Právě jsou Vánoce. O několik týdnů později se dostává na akademii v New Yorku. Stojí před ní volba. Z koho se bude krmit? Tohle však nebude její jediná starost, bohužel ani ta největší. Čekají na ní tajemství a zdá se, že její úhlavní nepřítel v nich hraje hlavní roli. K tomu všemu se přidává otravný duch, který touží být komplektní.

Na rovinu můžu říct, že druhí díl je mnohem lepší, než ten první. Stále se tu našly nedostatky, které mě rozčilovaly i v předešlém dílu, ale už jich nebylo mnoho. Dialogy už dávaly mnohem větší smysl a že bych nevěděla, o co jde, se mi stalo pouze jednou.

Jako vždy jsem se usmívala nad autorčiným smyslem pro detaily. Popisovala momenty, kterým by se ostatní autoři obloukem vyhnuli. I přesto, že byla Cassie vyvolenou, držela se zajetého scénáře: Jsem chudá. Zároveň se jí však podařilo rozvinout její osobnost. Už to není ta slabá a nesebevědomá Cassie. Není sice nijak krásná, protože má v sobě jen půlku ducha, ale rozhodně díky této polovině dostala do vínku sílu, moc a ještě něco, o co v nejmenším nestála. Právě to něco pro ni bude kámen úrazu.

Postavy se nijak zvláštně nerozvíjely. Issabella zůstala stále veselá a energetická. Richard stále okouzlující, slabošský zbavělec, který sem tam pomůže a Issabellin kluk Jake byl stále ten nedůvěřivý člověk, který se snaží pomstít smrt své sestry. Jediná změna nastala snad ve vztahu mezi Cassandrou a Jakem, jejich vztah viditelně ochladl. Ranjit je kapitola sama o sobě. Autorka se postarala o náznaky, které ve mně hlodaly a říkaly mi, že jejich vztah není úplně ideální. Zhruba v polovině knihy jsem tušila, jak to s nimi skončí a mrzelo mě to. Ranjit se zachoval jako vzorný žák a ne jako nejsilnější démon mezi Vyvolenými.


Příběh je opět hodně napínavý a nechybí tu nic. Akce ani klidné scény, hádky ani vášeň... Zhruba od poloviny knihy jsem zatajovala dech a lámala si hlavu, jak to asi dopadne. Srdce mi bušilo a nemohla jsem se dočkat (zároveň jsem se děsila) konce.

Když už je řeč o konci. Ten byl uzavřený, ale zároveň sliboval další akci, která bude ještě nebezpečnější, než ta předešlá. Litovala jsem, že nemám po ruce další díl.

V knize je použit lehce plynoucí styl, takže se ani nenadějete a první třetina příběhu je za vámi. Čte se to rychle. Zároveň však určité situace nás nutí číst dál a dál. Kapitoly ohraničují určitý děj a nejsou zbytečně dlouhé. Vše je napsáno ve třetí osobě, a i když mám opravdu raději první osobu, v tomhle příběhu mi to nijak nevadilo.

Co se týče obálky, je krásná. Ty oči jsou fascinující a celkové provedení do zelené je krásné.


Minulý díl dostal 4 hvězdičky, aspoň myslím. Proto jsem ráda, že tomuhle dílu můžu dát plný počet. Je to opravdu docela změna. Snad to bude jedna z těch sérií (není jich mnoho), která bude každým dílem lepší a lepší.

2. diel série ma veľmi milo prekvapil. Autorka má krásny dar vyrozprávať príbeh tak, aby som sa od neho neodtrhla. Doslova som hltala každé jej slovo. Vie veľmi dobre vygradovať akciu a v správny moment vložiť odhalenie tajomstiev. Tiež sa mi páčilo (tak ako aj pri 1. dieli), že najprv riešila jeden problém alebo situáciu a ak sa to čiastočne vyriešilo alebo načrtlo, hodila do príbehu úplne novú nečakaná zápletku a aj nových hrdinov. Človek tak bol vždy v obraze a stále mohol tipovať nových záporákov alebo priebeh deja.
Niektorí Vyvolení študenti Darkovej akadémie nesú v sebe ducha niekoho iného. Ten sa musí kŕmiť životnou energiou obyčajných ľudí a za to prepožičiava svojim "hostiteľom" krásu a špeciálne schopnosti. Tento nápad sa mi zdá veľmi zaujímavý, ale siaha až niekam do ďalekej histórie a preto by som celkom uvítala, keby niekto jasne a vecne vysvetlil, prečo vlastne tie duše nejdú "preč"? Prečo musia vôbec existovať Vyvolení? Na tieto otázky som stále odpoveď nedostala.
Cassie je typ hrdinky, do ktorej sa dokážem dokonale vžiť. Má rozumné myšlienkové pochody, nerobí zo seba hlupaňu, ale má aj istú zdravú naivitu. Všetko riešila tak, ako najlepšie vedela a predsa nebola tou jedinou výnimočnou, ktorá všetko zvláda a nič sa jej nestane. Bola zraniteľná a nie vždy sa ovládala. Bola pre mňa teda omnoho reálnejšia. Navyše má prekrásne meno...Cassandra 8)
Zvyšok postáv sa nám takisto opakovalo z predošlej knihy. Máme tam rovnakých študentov, ktorí sú z rôznych kútov sveta, niektorí sú namyslení boháči, iní zase dobrí priatelia. Väčšinou som, tak ako Cassie, nikdy nevedela odhadnúť, kto je teraz na koho strane. Randžit aj Isabella sú strašné zlatíčka a nedá sa ich nemilovať. Jake si nesie v srdci smrť jeho sestry Jess a myslím, že nikto by sa na nevyjasnenú smrť člena rodiny nevykašľal, tiež by som hľadala dôkazy a trest pre vrahov.
Máme tu aj nové postavy a to celú Radu Starších. Poriadne som sa zasmiala, keď som si tam predstavila senátorku, modelku, herečku, kancelára alebo iné osobnosti zo šoubiznisu, ktoré v sebe tiež nosia hladného ducha a chodili na Darkovu akadémiu. Neboli tam však žiadne mená a preto sa fantázii čitateľa medze nekladú 8D
Kniha sa mi veľmi páčila a rozhodne vám ju odporúčam. Číta sa veľmi ľahko, rýchlo a má skvelý nápad. Autorka si skvele pohrala so slovíčkami a detailmi, nezabudla zahrnúť aj reálny svet a pridala kúsok nadprirodzena. Vznikol skvelý príbeh a dobrá kniha 8)

Už je to hodně dlouho, co jsem četla první díl, ale kupodivu jsem tím nijak nestrádala. Pamatovala jsem si skoro všechno, co se v jedničce stalo, takže jsem pak nebyla překvapená, když některé postavy něco z toho zmínily. Navíc na začátku knihy Cassie ve zkratce všechno shrnula, což bylo fajn. Dřív mě to dost otravovalo a přišlo mi to zbytečné, bohužel se zdá, že paměť jde každým rokem do kopru a já si z některých knih nepamatuju vůbec nic. Takže shrnutí teď oceňuju.

Druhý díl se drží celkem dobře ve stopách prvního. Opět tu máme tajnou akademii pro Vyvolené, což mě osobně vážně bere. Tyhle příběhy z nějakých utajených škol jsou přesně mým šálkem čaje.
Co se týká příběhu, ten byl lepší než před tím. Opadlo tu takové to počáteční seznamování se školou a studenty, takže se dělo něco zajímavého už od samého začátku. Ten byl sice ještě trošku pomalejší, ale postupně se to pořádně rozjelo. Moc mě bavilo, jak Cassie objevovala svoje schopnosti, občas na někoho zaútočila a neustále se dohadovala s Estelle. Tohle mi přišlo trochu podobné Hostiteli - hrdinka má v sobě taky nějakou jinou osobu, která ji nenechá chvíli v klidu.

Hlavní hrdinku jsem si překvapivě docela oblíbila. Byla odvážná, nebála se nikde říct svůj vlastní názor a nepotřebovala, aby se o ní někdo staral a vodil ji neustále za ručičku. Dost mě pobavilo, jak se rozohnila před celou radou a vyhrožovala jim, na to by spousta lidí neměla koule.

Pak tu máme Ranjita. Ten mě osobně nijak zvlášť neuchvátil. Navíc při jeho jméně se mi vždycky vybavil stejnojmenný taxikář z Jak jsem poznal vaši matku, a to potom pro mě bylo těžké si představit, jaký je to fešák. Navíc mě nadzvednul tím, že se na konci za Cassie nepostavil, pořád jí říkal, ať se do ničeho nemotá, ať sedí doma na zadku a nechá svého kamaráda třeba i zabít.
Naopak mě hodně zaujal Richard a to už v prvním díle. Na rozdíl od Ranjita nebyl tak upjatý a byla s ním zábava. To samé s Isabellou. Kdo by nechtěl takovou kamarádku?

Takže sečteno podtrženo, opět čtyři hvězdičky. Kniha se dobře četla a ten konec byl prostě super. Za to musím Cassie pochválit, protože hned neutekla s brekem někam do kouta, ale dala pěkně najevo svůj názor:)

I must say that after reading "Darke Academy 1," I had high expectations for book two; but, "Blood Ties" started off rather sluggishly then managed to redeem itself about midway.

This term the Academy has moved to New York. Cassie, Isabella and Jake meet each other at the airport. Unfortunately, Cassie blacks out. When she is taken to the Academy and Aldric Darke discovers her dire straits due to a lack of feeding he gives her a one time fix. However, he insists she will have to learn to feed. She has a choice of getting a new roommate in which to feed from or feeding from Isabella. Cassie does not want to use Isabella without her permission and Isabella is so taken by her friend's honesty she agrees to it; but, with the caveat that Jake is not told.

As the new term begins, Cassie and Ranjit pursue a relationship. Of course, Jake isn't at all pleased about this and Cassie catches him hacking into secure databases in an effort to obtain information regarding the whereabouts of Katerina. Estelle wants Cassie to complete the melding and she begins to show her skills in strange ways. Katerina makes her presence known in an ominous way.

As the plot develops, the will be danger, intrigue and betrayals of a monumental size. Those who are close to Cassie will reveal their true nature and not all of it will be pretty. In the end, a girl like Cassie knows the truth: there is only one person you can rely on in the end and that is yourself! I was pleased to see the maturity Cassie shows and just how much she has grown. However, that same sense of self is also what makes her enemies come after her.

This book had the potential to be awesome instead of good; but, the author had some moments of missed opportunities. For example when Cassie went home after the term, it would have been a great opportunity to improve world building and explore the issue of hunger of her beast. As I stated earlier, the first half of the read was rather mundane but the second half took off like a bat out of hell and kept me on the edge of my seat. I would still recommend this book/ series and hope that book three will bring us back to the wonderful creativity of the first.

Cassie má pořád větší a větší hlad. Odloučené od jejích kamarádů a zvláště pak Ranjita je těžké. Kniha navázala tam kde jsme skončili. Překvapilo mě jak kniha byla dobrá. Nenasmála jsem se u ní sice tolik jako u prvního dílu, ale zase to bylo více napínavější. Hned na začátku mě Ranjit oslnil. Temný a nepřístupný kluk.. sice klišé, ale mě se to stejně pořád líbí.

Už v prvním dílu jsem měla pocit, že mi kniha něco připomíná. Jenže jsem si nedokázala vybavit s čím. Přeci jenom jsem ještě nečetla o škole, která se každý rok stěhuje někam jinam a Vyvolení si vybírají někoho v kom chtějí bít. Neživý se krví, ale životní energií. Jsou to stvoření, kteří tu ještě nebyli.

Obálka je tentokrát do zelena a dole je znázorněn New York ve kterém je právě škola. Tahle obálka se mi líbí víc než ta předchozí. V knihovničce obě knížky vypadají kouzelně, protože obě mají na hřbetě oko a nápis na stejném místě.

Poslední dobou nemám ráda konce knížek a vadí mi jak končí. Buď špatně nebo napínavě. V téhle knize je to půl na půl a opravdu nevydržím čekat tak dlouho do vydání dalšího dílu. Cassie mě u konce mile překvapila a konečně se rozhoupala k tomu aby byla nejsilnější. A Ranjit. Ten mi přijde jako slaboch. Sice je hodně silný, ale vůbec se tak nechová.

New York je kouzelné město, ve kterém Vás může něco rychle zabít. Ale je to vhodné město na romantické procházky! To zní opravdu hodně lákavě jenže ne všichni kdo říkají, že jsou na dobré straně tam nutně musí být. Jake je pořád posedlý pomstou za smrt svojí sestry a málem u toho přijde o kejhák.

Po dočtení knihy jsem ji zaklapla a dala do knihovničky. Přemýšlela jsem, že jí vyhradím nějaké místo kde na ní bude vidět. Obálce dávám 4 hvězdičky, protože mě okouzlila. Od knihy jsem čekala spousty věcí a některé se splnily jiné ne. Knize dávám 4 hvězdičky a vyhlížím vydání dalšího dílu.
