Ahhh!! I love Rachel Higginson and I loved the Star-Crossed series so much that I was desperately wanting to love her second series just as much as her first.

But I was wary about whether or not I would like this series ever since I found out what this book was going to be about.

I've read books before about angels, demons, and stars living on earth. (Several of them I've ended up dropping halfway through because I thought they were lame and I just couldn't continue reading them). So when I learned that this book was going to be one of those types of story lines I was immediately depressed. I think those books always end up getting one star from me because their plots just never seem to work out right. Or maybe I am just not a fan of that type of supernatural plot line like other people are.

Hey, everyone has different genres they enjoy. That's why we have so many genres out there. Everyone has the opportunity to read the kind of books they love. So maybe this book is catered to those people who are in love with reading books of this type of story line.

Anyway, I was more than willing to give this book a chance despite my track record with star/angel books in the past because I had faith that Rachel Higginson could work her magic.

I absolutely enjoyed the beginning of the book as I was introduced to Stella, Tristan, and Seth and the world they lived in. I had the excitement of reading a new book and another series by my favorite author that rolled me along as the book progressed and the relationship dynamics between all the characters that kept me intrigued. But let's face it, I fell in love with Tristan before I even met him, so when he wasn't around I was missing him and just hoping he would come back. And because he wasn't around a whole lot I grew impatient. And then my problems with angel/demon stories and such started to flare up.

I actually had no problem with the whole "Stella's a star" thing, which I thought was going to be my biggest issue with this book. I didn't think it sounded lame or cheesy like it always ends up in other books.

I did, I am sad to say (really really sad), have a problem with the Darkness, Fallen, Shadows, etc. and for stupid reasons too.

My issues with the "Darkness" or whatever you call them:

- How they are trying to destroy all life and light in the universe.

Sounds like those cheesy movies where you go "Oh no! The darkness is taking over and is going to destroy everything!" Ever heard of the Disney movie Twitches with that dark smoke that eats everything? Or how about something more familiar like the Green Lantern movie where Parallax is bent on destroying life and planets but the concept comes off more comical in the movie than terrifying like it should be?

- How they want to turn everyone to the dark side.

I can just hear Darth Vader saying:
"Give yourself to the Dark Side"
"If you will not turn to the Dark Side... then perhaps she will..."

But Darth Vader is actually intimidating, so...

- How I'm constantly reading about how bad the Shadows smell. Like sulfur.

But every time I read about it I just keep thinking of the movie Shrek when Donkey thinks Shrek let one rip but it was actually the sulfur in the air. It's comical! Not disgusting or disturbing like I know Rachel intended it to be.

Those were just some examples of issues I ran into while reading the book. I just had a hard time taking things seriously I guess. Stupid movies! Tainting my brain and screwing with my imagination while I am reading a book.

But I really did enjoy many parts of this book and I loved the strong powerful character that was Stella. She's different from Eden and I loved it.

Oh and I forgot to mention the sword fighting!! I've always loved swords. I mean seriously, who hasn't fantasized about wielding a sword and kicking some serious bad guy butt. It totally appealed to me! I just wish I knew what all these different swords were. I mean there are the descriptions, but I am not that good with sword terminology so at times my brain was a little jumbled trying to figure the different swords out.

Now back to Tristan. He's awesome and gorgeous and I love him. Why is everyone Team Seth? Just because he is her Counterpart? That's lame. Tristan is totally amazing and should be with Stella even though he can never protect her or be what Seth can be for her, I still think he is the best and I choose HIM!

I wish I could give this book more stars. I really really want to.

But you know sometimes I like a book more the second time around, so maybe it will get boosted to a higher rating later. I really do hope so.

Whatever the matter, I still really liked the book and I am excited for the next one to be released so I can read it too. I have hopes that this series will improve with time and even though I cannot say it is one of my favorite books, I can say that it is good enough to read more than once.

Closing Remarks: Team Tristan!!!! (Ugh, my heart is going to break when Stella ends up with Seth).

My advice for people who are considering reading this book: don't.
The plot was terrible, the writing was wretched, the characters were annoying, there was chronic repetition of certain sentences and inconsistent story telling.
Warning: Very critical and hateful review, potential spoilers and swearing.
I have never read such a disgustingly written story. The protagonist was possibly the worst kind of person. The plot was predictable, irritating and just... stupid. The "love triangle" was completely unnecessary, annoying and boring. If I could rate this book any lower I would. I only read this book to see if it got any better and to reach my goal to read seventy books in 2014. How this terrible author got published is beyond me. She tried at one point to imply that Stella was all for equality yet the rest of the story is her hiding behind the muscle of Seth, Jupiter and Tristan. This idiot protagonist is destined to be the protector and saviour of Earth and she is worrying about her futile relationship with fucking Tristan!! Is she dim in the head if not in her shine. OH AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW MUCH SHE LOVES TO REMIND THE READER THAT SHE IS A FUCKING STAR. If she were in charge of Earth's safety, we are doomed.
Seth and Tristan were the most annoying sidekicks I have ever experienced.
this book really fucking sucked. And I love books. I really wanted to enjoy this book.
I am so glad I got this for free (The YA Readers Little Black Book) on Kindle.

This was another great book by Rachel Higginson. I loved her other series, and this one was a great start to a new series. I hope she is working hard on the next book.

Stella is a Star sent here to protect earth from Darkness taking over. When she comes of age she will come into her full powers, but until then she is training hard and fighting the battles that do come up as best she can. She has her best friend Tristan, that knows her secret, and her angel Seth, both vying for her love. Tristan has been her best friend forever, but romance has not come up until recently. And Seth is who she is destined to be with forever. They are made for each other and compliment each other perfectly. Stella is being blind and thinking neither boy really loves her, which really frustrated me about her. But she is a strong female character that I really liked. I am on team Seth, but Rachel did a really good job at making you love both boys, and I really hate her for that. I am anxious for the next book (as long as things look good for Seth LOL).

This book had a lot of action and fighting, and a little romance mixed in. I just really love the romance part, so that is what I wrote about. Recommend this to everyone.

THANK YOU THANK YOU to the lovely Jennifer for allowing me to read and review an ARC copy of Starbright. I have to say I never heard of Rachel before this or her crossed series and boy oh boy do I feel like I was missing out on some EPIC reads! If you have never read anything by Rachel go out and get her books I am telling you you will not be disappointed.

Starbright is about a girl Stella who is a Star sent down to protect the earth. She is just like your average teen hanging out with friends only she has the responsibility of saving the world from the darkness and evil that is trying to destroy the last inhabited world. Stella is coming into her powers when the evil darkness decides it's coming for her.

Only Stella is not alone in this fight because she has her parents and Seth an Angel sent to help her and she has her best friend Tristian who knows her secret. Lord I do like me some love triangles because it kept the story very interesting and showed Stella that they both loved her and would do anything to protect her. I am not sure who I love more because I need to read book two ASAP to figure it out.

Come along for the greatest ride where the light will fight very hard to destroy the darkness that is trying to over rule Earth.

I opened this book knowing nothing about it...so when it started and I found out it was another "teenage girl with powers" book I was a bit reluctant to continue, but I did, and I'm glad.

The book is written well and is fairly fast paced. I loved the relationship Stella has with both Tristan and Seth and I like the originality of it all. It was a departure from everything I usually read and I found myself enthralled with the story.

A solid four out of five stars.

Let me first say that I loved the Star-Crossed series, so I couldn't wait to read Rachel's new series, hoping that she would deliver something special again. But I am so sorry to say that I did not like Starbright. Let me tell you why.

Starbright was very repetitive. Rachel is great at giving descriptions of things and building a scene, and explaining how characters are feeling, but this was done so many times, that I actually started rolling my eyes at my Kindle and Stella with "yes I know you are a star and shine, and are good" "yes I know the shadows are evil" "yes I know you did not want to meet Seth till you were older" "yes I know Tristan is special to you". I think this repetition also slowed the book down, the story moved very slow, with not a lot happening, but then a bit of action, and then more talking and nothing.

I also did not really like Stella, yeah she was toughish and stood up and fought, she was no push over heroine, which was all good, but she was also quiet whiney about her feelings for Tristan and Seth, which does not match her other characteristics. Her internal monologue was just draining at times. In addition to this Stella also came off a bit preachy for me, constantly going on about how she was a star and came from `heaven' so was obviously good, and the shadows where evil. I don't need to be told this, I can make this judgment by the characters actions.

In relation to the whole lets make a love triangle with Seth and Tristan I thought this was interesting idea, do you go for the best friend or the guy your `soul' is meant for. This similar idea did work well for Rachel in Star-Crossed series. However, this was one of those love triangles that did not work for me. It just kind of felt icky. I found Stella and Tristan's relationship just weird. I did not get how she switched from talking about Tristan as a friend to all these feelings she had for him. It did not ring true to me, it felt like one person was explaining their relationship in the first part of the book and then somebody else in the second part. Seth turning up was not enough for the way she talked about him, I needed to feel it and I didn't. Tristan just came off as one of those guys who wanted someone and did nothing about it, and Stella came off as one of those girls who only changed her feelings about a guy because he changed his about her. It felt icky. Now Seth on the other hand, he was interesting, I have to admit I am interested in his story. I liked how he was around Stella, it felt real. Their relationship was not forced. I like how they just let things happen. Seth was everything I look for in my male leads, and I thought Stella was quite hard on him at times. I actually wonder what I would have thought of this story if it had been told from his POV.

Unfortunately, liking Seth was not enough for me to like the book, and I will not be reading the second one. Just to warn all the editing Nazi's out there the beginning of the book has quite a few of them, the biggest being that within the same sentence it switched between Stella's point of view to third person. This did not just happen once for twice, but on numerous occasions. I also had to re-read paragraphs at times as they did not really make much sense. I can often live with editing issues but they really stood out for me. I think this didn't help with the flow of the story and may have also been another factor that slowed it down.
Will I read it again? No

Stella is just sixteen when she's attacked by the shadows that kick her future into high gear. Suddenly the guy who she's not supposed to meet for many years has shown up in time to save her from the shadows. The prior protector of Earth has been murdered kick starting Stella’s training to be the next protector. Thankfully she won’t have to step right into the roll since there is a temporary Star to protect earth. With the loss of one star and the arrival of Seth her warrior Stella’s life is about to change.

Instead of spending her days with school, sports and her friends she now has to add fighting and training to protect to the earth with Seth. While Stella is destined to be with Seth she can’t help the feelings that her best friend has developed. With two guys trying for her heart she has her hands full toss in an angry fallen who is intent on having Seth join his side. Stella will have to take a speed course in learning to defend the earth or else it will fall into the darkness like all the prior planets. At least she won’t have to do it alone.

I like Stella she’s one of those pure characters you can’t help liking right from the start. I really love characters you can connect with and Stella is one of those characters, plus as the book progresses she just gets better. I really like Seth he’s the good guy with a good heart intent on doing what’s right even if it means losing the last of his family. I’m not sure how I feel about Stella’s best friend Tristian he kind of bugs me the way he knows she’s off limits but doesn’t back off with his intentions.

I've had this one as a kindle freebie for over a year and I wish I hadn't waited so long. I haven't found that Angel book that I've fallen in love with yet but this series may just be it. While the author uses the concept of good vs evil she adds her own unique twist creating stars and warriors as protects of earth. The stars and warriors have the ability to heat up their skin to the power of the sun, they are stronger, faster, and can fly how cool is that? I loved Stella even if she is in a love triangle which typically I avoid she’s still a character I enjoyed reading her story. Overall I think the author did a great job, and plan to read the next ones in the series. Side note the series was renamed and the cover updated in my opinion much better.

OMG!!! Y'all this book has everything!! No really I mean it!! Love, romance, danger good, evil, a love triangle high school dram, small town life and most importantly some HOT book boys!!!

So what is this book about??? Stella Day is just trying to be a normal teenager for as long as she possible can, because she's anything but normal. Stella is a Star, an Angel to be exact. If that wasn't enough pressure, she's been chosen along with her counterpart warrior Seth *sigh* to help protect Earth from all evil. At 16, Stella is enjoying her small town high school life with her two best friends Piper and Tristan. One dark, cold, winter night, Stella is thrust into her secret life when she's attacked by demon shadows. Just when Stella thinks all is lost, two Angles come with a blast of light to save her. Seth *sigh* and all his yumminess along with Jupiter their cranky trainer.

No longer able to live a normal life, Stella now finds herself balancing high school and training to fight against demons( with bada$$ swords) Here comes my favorite parts y'all the love triangle!! Stella has grown up with Tristan and there has always been unspoken feeling between them. Stella has worked very hard to keep her feelings for Tristan in the "friendship zone" because she knows her warrior counterpart was MADE just for her. he'll be her everything protector, best friend and partner. So Tristan is none too happy when Seth shows up at school claiming to be an old family friend, there's a lot of chest puffing and showing off *giggle*

Of course Rachel has lots of flirty scenes to make you sigh and wish the boys were real! My two favorites? Tristan's sleep over (NO it's not what you think) & Seth's pancakes *sigh*

Ok, Ok, for all you crazy people that prefer action to romance ( what's wrong with you??) no worries, Rachel didn't leave you out. There are plenty of battle scenes where Seth is moving gracefully through hordes of demon shadows covered in tar like blood.
Wait there's more!!! How can there be more?? Under the backdrop of all this goodness, lurks the pure evil of Aliah. He's determined to force Seth to join the ranks of his Fallen Angels and will stop at nothing to convince him, including using Stella.

My feelings about this book in a nutshell: *throws up hands in exasperation* Lord save me from angsty teenage love triangles!!

The premise is interesting and unique. As ridiculous as it sounds, I like the idea of Star warriors and I like the conflict that developed with the Shadows/Demons. It was intriguing and kept me wanting to know more. That being said, I do think that the plot was at times poorly executed; things just progressed too quickly in a lot of different ways. Stella has never weapons trained, but through some "deeply ingrained instincts" is a master warrior in just a few lessons. All that nonsense with Seth's sister really could have waited for book 2.

The one thing that was an absolute black cloud over whole story was the love-triangle fiasco... I swear, I am sick and tired of them!! First she's "just friends" with Tristan for all her life and then Seth, her intended, shows up and all of a sudden she sees Tristan in a romantic light (pun intended, 'cuz you know... stars, lol!)...!?!? Seriously, what- did Seth jump start her hormones with his "perfectness"?! I hate, hate, HATE love-triangles!! They are cliched and most of the time the two who were originally supposed to be together end up together anyway- only on VERY rare occasions are love triangles well written and are actually entertaining to read rather than exasperating. It DID NOT work in this book, because- barring some dramatic, inexplicable and probably poorly executed miracle- Seth and Stella will end up together; so meanwhile, this tug-of-war with Stella's affections is just a nuisance and a waste of page time. Besides, anyone can see that Tristan and are the ones that TRULY belong together- no one bickers that much if they don't care!

I'm going to give book 2, Heir of Darkness, a try because it really is an interesting plot... but I'm not going to stand for much more of this relationship drama. Ain't nobody got time for that!!

Rachel Higginson is the best author ever! So the day I found out this book was out I bought it. I didn't even know what it was about. I just bought it because it was by Rachel. I became a big fan of hers when I read her Endless Magic books. Those books were so amazing I couldn't put them down. I think I finished all 4 in 2 days. So I had to grab this book up. However... I was kinda let down. I had a hard time getting into this book. A few times I just wanted to skip to the end. I think a big part of it was 3 things.
1) I just can't relate to the story. I don't understand her relationship with Tristan!!  I don't get her decisions. I lacked that connection while reading.
2) I don't know if its just a "me thing" but I don't get the whole "star thing" This book would have been so much easier for me to read (and like) if it was just about the angels (like she was a angel, not a star)  every time I read star it didn't sit right. I kept thinking so she is like a star but she is human? I don't know how else to explain that part.
3) now this might just be a me thing but I love the whole falling in love/games things in books. (like in Reckless Magic that was awesome!!) But this? No, there is no falling in love. It was  like she loves her guy BFF and now she loves her angel too.

Now with all that there is good stuff  like
*Seths sister Seven is a really interesting character, and if I were to read the next book I would read it only to find out about more about her. Rachel wrote Sevens character beautifully!
*The whole save the last planet from the darkness was a great concept.
*And Seth...awe can we just say Rachel knows how to write about a man being loyal to the girl he loves!

Like I've said I love this author unfortunately this book just wasn't my favorite book.

I really liked the story and it kept me interested all the way through but I hate the love triangle. It drives me crazy b/c I can never tell who she is going to pick. It almost killed me in the Star Crossed series when I didn't know what was going to happen with the relationships. She has to be with Seth and I love Seth but what about Tristan? I honestly do not think she should be with Tristan he will only hold her back from saving the world and they are not meant to be with each other. Please Please Please let the love triangle not last the entire series! I don't think I could take it again.

Another entertaining read from Rachel Higginson. I nearly marked it down because of the poor editing (doesn't she know I would proofread it for free just to read it a week early???), but I was feeling generous. : ) Can't wait for the rest of the series!

This book was quite frankly horrible. Now I'm no anti-Higginson, in fact I loved the Star-crossed series and I was actually expecting to at least like this book, but this book was a huge disappointment. I don't think there's anything else left to say.

Great on Earth - Need More Heaven

I’m always going to love on Rachel’s work. Her series have been amazing for me to read and see progress over the years. This book is good, I love the concept, and the roots in young adult narratives. What I am missing from this is the expansion on and the exploration of the Heaven hierarchy. The connection and direction from above. Everything else on earth is great! Ready for more!

I found this really difficult to get through. The writing was really repetitive and some sentences did just not make sense.

The characters are extremely annoying, and the love triangle between Stella, Tristan and Seth was rubbish. Her constant declarations of love for both of them was annoying.

Reading reviews on the following books it appears that this was supposed to be a series of 5 books and the author only wrote 3.

I read this as part of the YA Readers Little Black book boxset

UPDATE: Reread the newest version, and there were a lot less editing issues, phew. I'm still sticking to my 4 star rating. Parts of this just sucked me in and had the magic that is in all Ms. Higginson's works. Seriously, she writes characters that are complex and interesting, situations that make my heart break and burst, and emotions that leap off the page. I'm sticking with not being uber happy with the love triangle. I can honestly say I don't know where it's going, and I don't like that. I don't even have a side. I switch sides as often as Stella. And it leaves me not feeling like I know Stella or the boys enough. She isn't quite as strong as say Eden was. I want to see a bit more of her as she is. I'm HUGELY excited for the next book though. THere is just so much to this story and I cannot wait to see where it goes!!

PREVIOUS REVIEW: Hmmmm...didn't get into it quite as well as Reckless Magic. Ms. Higginson has an amazing imagination though...I just found it harder to get behind the Stella/Tristan/Seth almost triangle. In the Star Crossed series, you got to get behind Kiran in the first book before being totally bowled over with another possibility... So I'm not sure what I want for Stella...or for that matter what I want for Seth. Tristan didn't get under my skin as much as I was expecting. Maybe it was just not the right time for me to read this? I don't know, but it wasn't as awesome as I was anticipating. I think one of the things that really drove me crazy were the obvious editing issues...I don't know if I somehow got an unedited version, but I checked amazon for an updated copy and didn't have one. There were major POV issues (in the same sentence it would say "I" and then later "her")....normally I can tolerate them all right, but these were enough to jar me out of the world, kwim??

So after all that writing, you're probably like "but you still gave it 4 stars???".... Well, I did thoroughly enjoy it, this was more just an explanation of why it wasn't my fan girl 5 stars... Will be interesting to see where the series goes though....

So, I love Rachel Higginson. The fact that she is still a self-published author astounds me.

This is a great read for YA readers of all ages (like her Star-Crossed series). Stella is a star, the female version of an angel warrior which are on the lowest ring of Angels that heaven has to offer. That doesn't mean that she isn't important; quite the opposite in fact. Stella is destined to be the future protector of Earth, the last planet holding life. One day she will join with her counterpart, the male warrior that she will be connected to in heart body and soul, and together they will protect Earth from the evil darkness that has destroyed life throughout the galaxy. She thought her life would be able to continue the same as it had for the past 16 years, like that of any other small town girl, at least until her 18th birthday and the complete arrival of her powers. She thought the next few years would consist of going to school, hanging out with her best-friend Tristan, and trying not to glow in the middle of class.

Instead, darkness comes early for her, sending her plans of normalcy crashing down. With the arrival of evil that threatens Earth's very existence her Counterpart comes too, putting not only her life into disarray, but her heart as well.

Rachel is an expert in the love triangle department. This is the first in the series, and boy does Stella have a tough road ahead of her. Not only is she going to have to shape-up into a world class (eh, universe class?) warrior, defend Earth against permanent darkness, and keep herself firmly within the light, but she's also going to struggle between her feelings for her life-long friend and her Counterpart; her past and her future.

The only reason this wasn't given the 5 stars the story deserves is that dear Rachel has some editing issues. There were a few places that switched between 1st and 3rd person, and other grammatical problems that sometimes had me rereading a sentence before it's meaning sunk in. BUT, this is often the case with our beloved self-published authors, and it was still WELL worth the read, and has me eagerly anticipating the second book.

This is a difficult review to write. I really, really like the idea of the book. Stars/angels who are everywhere in the galaxy and protect all planets against darkness? That’s something I haven’t read before. But the way it was handled in this book? Ugh.

I didn’t like Stella(such a creative name for a star). At all. I didn’t like her love interests either. Yes, you read right. Plural.

There is Tristan who is her best friend. Of course he is really hot, like the hottest guy in school but they’re just friends. And suddenly they’re not and there is so much sexual tension you wouldn’t believe it. Apparently that’s because her future husband (it’s destiny you know?) shows up. Of course Seth, too, is unbelieveable sexy. Enter: sexual tension.

Stella is like a ping pong ball through the whole book. She wants Tristan, no she doesn’t. She doesn’t want Seth, no she does. Aaaand back to Tristan.

I found both relationships to be really unhealthy. Both boys wanted to tell her what to do. I think Stella did notice that but she didn’t really care because, guess what? They are hot. And kind of aggressive (and not in the good way).

There was so much talk about muscles and bizeps and strong arms and trapping her against walls and the like… it got really boring. Stella too focuses way too much on that. Even when they are fighting (together or against each other), she salivates at Seth’s body.

I would have liked it better if Tristan was kept as a best friend without any sexual tension at all (it wasn’t really believeable either to be honest) and if the relationship she has to have with Seth wouldn’t be accepted right away. Just because he is hot (and a jerk in my eyes) she is okay with it?

Because of the whole relationship drama the actual earth is in danger theme wasn’t really that present. Sadly.

I checked Starbright on goodreads.com and apparently it got published anew under the title Heir of skies.

My e-book version was purchased on Amazon.de as a part of The YA Readers Little Black Book.

This book was absolutely amazing! I have never read anything like it before. The storyline was new, with the exception of the love triangle (and I always love a good love triangle). I knew I was in for amazingness when I picked up this book the second it was released on Amazon. I have loved anything Rachel has written.

I honestly don't know what I can say about this book without giving anything away about the book, and I don't want to give anything away about the book. The excerpt pretty much covers it, you just need to read it.

I love the relationship with Tristan and Stella. I can relate because I mostly had guy friends growing up in school. My best friend was a guy, who was in love with me and I had to handle dating and still being friends with him. And then introduce Seth, Stella's sexy, gorgeous, perfect counterpart and things get rocky because she's supposed to be "married" to him in 7 years. So starts the "pissing matches", so to speak. This is the part I always love, and personally, I'm routing for Seth. Not only because he's who she's supposed to be with, but mainly because of his back story, which you'll learn when you read it. Both boys are fine specimens, so you'll enjoy ogling over them both.

Now this whole time, Stella and Seth are trying and fighting to save the world from the Shadows and the Fallen. The action scenes are pretty intense and I loved every minute of them...kept me on the edge of my seat. I really cannot wait until November for Starburst!! I'm seriously loving this series as much as I did her first!! :)

Can't bring myself to finish it. Can't believe this is THE same author for the star crossed. The Main character is Clueless and beyond annoying. Let the damn pancakes go girl.

Rachel Higginson holds a very special place in my Book Nerd Heart. The reasoning for this is because she is the only author to ever make me love a character, hate that same character and then fall back in love with that exact same character. This was when I was reading her Star-crossed series. When she announced Starbright series I was jumping with joy because I knew that it was going to be great!

Best part: The best part of this is book is Rachel Higginson, herself. No she did not write herself into the book BUT her talent is beyond words! Just when I think I have figured out the story line *BAM* another twist. I also love how she put in a love triangle: Stella, Seth and Tristan are amazing characters. (Although, I am #TeamSeth ... just sayin). Rachel delivers a unique story line about stars, angels and evil. I love how she twists it all together and it just flows perfect! I love how Rachel makes it that I really feel what Stella is feeling and I can relate to her.

Not so great: UGH! Even though I love a good love triangle it is so frustrating that Stella is "flip-flop" between Seth and Tristan. I mean, come on, just pick Seth and all will be great. With that begin said I do not like Rachel's cliffhangers. She knows how to leave me frustrated and now I have to wait until Book 2! (I think she does this on purpose!)

The plot was mediocre. If it were only that alone, I could have lived with it. It wasn't.

The writing was often a distraction. Verb tenses disagreed, sentences ran on, and words that should have been combined were separated ("beelined" vs "bee lined"). At other times, "your" and "you're" were mixed up, as were other homophones. Sometimes it was merely a matter of awkward word choices. Everything was grammatically correct, but none of it sounded like a teenage narrator.

There was also the slight matter of repetition, which other reviewers have noted. Please, show. Don't tell. And please, don't tell the reader over and over and over again. Those who read YA novels can understand things without being told ten times - trust me.

I also felt no attachment to the characters. In fact, they felt rather lifeless. As such, the main reason I continued spending time with this book was the train wreck effect. I simply could not look away from how a not-so-bad idea went into terrible, sloppy, YA literature.

I have read that this was an earlier work of the author's, published after she gained attention with works of better quality. If that is the case, then why wasn't this book cleaned up to match her later quality? Nothing is wrong with rewriting the material to improve it!

I just want to declare my love for the concept of this book. I would have never in a million years thought about stars being turned into supernatural beings. I've been wanting to read more angel books so I'm really glad that I was able to read this book. The book definitely kept me on my toes. I had a slew of possibilities running through my mind, and was surprised pretty frequently. Some of my theories included Jupiter being a trader, Tristan some how working for the Darkness, her own parents being involved some how. I had all kinds of crazy theories, but was pleasantly surprised through out all of it.

I felt that Stella was a really strong character. She didn't have any qualities that really annoyed me, which was refreshing. Over all I felt like she was able to get control over situations quickly, instead of whining incessantly about it. Oh and she juggles all that encompasses being a star all while being a normal teenager.

I thought that the love triangle was a little bit predictable, but at the same time I think it was kind of necessary for her to fully accept her destiny. I'm really excited to see what happens in the next book.

Stella is a Star, sent by a Council of Elders to live on Earth and protect the planet from the Darkness, a terrifying evil that would suck the good from every living thing and leave the planet empty and desolate. She has until her twenty-fifth birthday before the Protectorship becomes hers and Earth is left solely her responsibility. Stella’s fate goes on fast forward as she struggles to balance the rest of high school with the duties of protecting humanity from the deadliest kind of evil. With her parents and Seth, the boy intended to be her Counterpart, by her side she faces down demons and fallen angels in an effort to protect the last inhabited planet in the universe. But evil is not her only enemy. She also fights her future as she tries to decide if she’s willing to give up her human relationships, especially that of her best friend Tristan, in order to save humanity.
