Donna is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over a hundred novels. Her most popular series is the breathtaking Dark King (aka Dragon King) series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae.
In addition to her novels, Donna has written short stories, novellas, and novelettes for digital-first and print release. She has been dubbed as giving the “paranormal genre a burst of fresh air” by the San Francisco Book Review. Her work has been hailed as having “deft plotting and expert characterization” by Publisher’s Weekly and “sizzling” by RT Book Reviews.
She has been recognized with awards from both bookseller and reader contests including the National Reader’s Choice Award, Booksellers Best Award, as well as the coveted K.I.S.S. Award from RT Book Reviews.
Donna travels often for various speaking engagements, conferences, and book signings. She is also a frequent workshop presenter at national conferences such as RT Book Lovers Convention and Thrillerfest, as well as local chapters.
Born and raised in Texas, she also has ties across the border in Louisiana. Growing up with two such vibrant cultures, her Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding. She is never far from her faithful 80 pound dog, Sisko, or her three cats. She can often be found at the movies or bookstore with her children. Or buying makeup. And shoes.
Wow! Midnight’s Kiss is one of those books that leave you wondering how all of that just happened and I not have whiplash and dead tired hands. There is one intense page turner to be found with this book. There is so much going on in the Dark Warriors world. With the big climatic events of Midnight’s Seduction & Midnight’s Warrior there are some huge game changers, as there should be. I love that Donna is keeping it fresh and new in the villain department. I also have many questions about the new darkness that has seeped its way into the pages. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Ronnie and Arran have a great romance. They have so many hurdles to jump and it seems like as soon as they overcome one another presents itself. Ronnie doesn’t trust. She has some solid reasons behind this. Thus a new unknown person who insulates himself in her life with his large presence raises some hackles. Arran true to character does what he knows is best in protecting Ronnie. The moment he meets her, his one goal in life quickly becomes making her happy and seeing that no harm comes to her.
There is an amazing pacing to Midnight’s Kiss. The climatic moments come at you quickly and repeatedly. This makes the book impossible to put down. I do believe that Midnight’s Kiss just became my favorite Dark Warrior book.
I was lucky enough to read an advanced readers copy of Midnight's Kiss and let me tell you Donna Grant totally delivers an amazing story with Aaron and Dr.Reid. This book is packed with adventure, romance, Druids and immortal warriors. You can't go wrong with this series.
*Spoilers for previous books* In the previous books, the villains (Dierdre and Declan) have been vanquished and all is peaceful. Or is it? Saffron and Camdyn have had a baby girl. All (or lat least most) of the coupled up couples want to start having families; is it really safe to do so? At present what is stopping them is the desire to bind their gods and have a "normal" life. The spell is missing and they have been trying to locate it. Ronnie (Veronica) is an archaeologist and a Druid. Ronnie knows she has an ability, but doesn't know she is a Druid. She has always been "lucky" in her digs and has a good following with people willing to donate money as a result. Arran is tasked with volunteering at Ronnie's current dig in the hope they can find the spell. This did take a little bit of time for me to get into. There are new story-lines introduced in this one. Lots of action in this one. There is a new Big Bad (and yes, I was right about Jason!) and an unknown supernatural entity that gets released (the Selmyr). The MacLeod Castle Warriors and Druids have a new bad to fight (and possibly more with the Selmyr). It would be nice if they (those at the castle) would study the drough blood and see if they can determine what is in it that harms them. Especially since it was commented, the effects are worse. If they knew more, they would have a higher chance of coming up with something that would negate or diminish its effects. Just sayin. And Aisley is interesting (I think she could be a good person that was forced/tortured to someone she isn't).
The very first question that popped into my head concerning this book was, where will Grant take us next? After wrapping up several threads in the last book, Grant has the opportunity to open up a whole new vista to explore in this book. After having read the blurb to this book, I had a feeling that I would love it. And I did!
I am a sucker for archaeologist heroines. I honestly don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the research and the history that goes with it, that feeling of discovering something so vast and beyond yourself that intrigues me. Or maybe it’s having that hope that something is bigger out there. Whatever it is, I love it and I ended up loving Dr. Veronica Reid a lot. She is smart, spunky and a little feisty if I say so myself. Her first meeting with Arran was hilarious and boy, does she know how to keep the immortal warrior in his place! Right from that scene, I knew that I would be falling headlong in love with this book.
Arran is much like the other warriors in the series, but I thought Arran to be a little more playful with Reid than I expected. It was a nice change and I really loved how their relationship developed.
Arran’s big task is to find the spell to bind the god within him, but upon meeting Reid, he finds that she is also a Druid who uses her abilities to help her unearth ancient artifacts. Again, the part of me fascinated with old things jitters with glee and excitement.
As the threats and obstacles hit them at every angle, readers are thrown into a whirlwind of activity that is sure to have them flipping the pages quickly as I was. Grant really impressed me with this book.
We see a lot of our favorite characters, as we always do with this series, but there is the introduction of new, exciting things that I think readers will appreciate. I definitely enjoyed the way Grant was able to add a freshness to the series. I wonder what Jason Wallace has planned and will it be enough to defeat the warriors? I’m excited to read MIDNIGHT’S CAPTIVE to find out!
MIDNIGHT’S KISS is a game changer – one that will set the rest of the series in motion. With high emotions and even bigger threats, MIDNIGHT’S KISS just may be my favorite of the series so far.
As I have written many times before I ADORE Donna Grant's Dark Sword/Dark Warriors Series.. I use both terms because this series started off as The Dark Sword Series, taking place in Medieval Scotland but when the characters jumped to current day.. the series changed names.. It's the same series *grins* sorta.. A new day, A new evil and new challenges to overcome BUT the same warriors I first fell in love with.
The warriors have had a year of peace, since they destroyed both Deidre and Declan life is good.. There is even talk about having children. But the warriors want to wait until the spell that binds their gods has been found. They want to offer their wives a normal life, one without war and the fear of a bloody death hanging over their heads. They are sure it is only a matter of time before they can all be free..
There is so much more than meets the eye going on in this book. The subplots have subplots.. twists and turns and one really good cry. Devastation hits the warriors when the worst possible thing that could happen, happens.. They discover that a new evil has risen and an old one has been released!!
Arran MacCarrick has been sent to find the scroll, finally they think they have located it. All he needs to do is access the scroll and without anyone knowing, abscond with it *grins* sure no problem. He is thrilled to go on this mission. While Arran has no problem with his god, he kinda likes the perks and can deal with the negatives.. but he does know his friends want more from life. He volunteers to take a trip to an archeological site and see if the scroll is there. Something to appease his god and get him out of the house..er castle.
Dr Veronica "Ronnie" Read finds things. Her digs are renown for finding the best stuff.. for producing rare and unique finds and oh yeah for making money for the investors. It's almost like she has the magic touch *grins*. Able to rely only on her best friend and her mentor Ronnie has secluded herself from men. Never trusting them and has managed to give those who attempt to gain her favor a cold shoulder . Until a sexy scot with an impressive.... charisma shows up on her dig.
Things start happening when Arran and Ronnie meet.. The very air sizzles..
Ronnie knows there is something special on her site and Arran realizes that their is magic all around them. More powerful and older than anything he has ever seen. Not sure what it is but he does know there is something odd going on. Determined to protect Ronnie he insists on staying by her side.. only ro find that, that is not going to be all that easy. Avoiding their mutual attraction is all but impossible. Discovering Ronnie is mie makes it just that much harder. Arran has found that special Druid who rocks his world and he will do anything to ensure her safety first then her happiness..
Ronnie has to learn to not only rely on another person but to trust him. She is sure Arran is basically a pretty decent guy but there is that nugget of doubt she holds on to that could destroy them both. I loved the fact that Ronnie could accept that she was a Druid, that Arran had a god inside him but didn't trust him to be a decent guy.. It just goes to show you what one bad relationship can do to a woman.
Arran amazed me.. he wound his way into my heart and may just be taking Broc's place as my favorite warrior.. I know!! He doesn't even have wings.. His capacity for love is so vast and so wonderful what woman wouldn't just collapse at his feet?
Ok, the plot.. great new evils devised.. wonderful development of some of the evil ones. Donna leaves the reader with serious questions about some of them... and a sincere dislike for others. There is also a great deal of foreshadowing going on.. I know Charon's book is going to be a killer!!
I must say.. this book was intense, intoxicating and totally amazing!! I opened it up and the next time I looked up I had finished the book!! A Great read. If you haven't begun this series yet.. do so!!
This novel is #5 in the series, "Dark Warriors" by author; Donna Grant. Another wonderful edition to this series. As always, it's incredibly well written. The warriors, druids, evil, romance, death, betrayal, heartbreak and forgiveness. This novel has it ALL! It didn't move as quickly for me as some of the previous novels but that's okay because it was still really good. I'm a fan of Donna Grant and have loved every one of her novels that I have read. I would highly recommend this series (but you have to read the first series, "Dark Sword") novel and author. You won't be disappointed. Happy Reading!
Im not gonna lie.. I wasn't a huge fan of this one.. There wasn't anything wrong with it necessarily.. but there wasn't anything that great either. Neither one of the main characters did anything for me. The only thing that got my going was what happened to Larena. I almost threw my phone across my office I was so mad. I am still not certain what happened in the end. But whatever. The book was just kind of meh.. Boring.
I got to read an Advance Copy of Midnights Kiss and i have to say that This book was so amazing, the events in the story feel so real, there are surprises and twist in Midnights kiss, She kept me on edge through out the whole story, never a dull moment! Truly one of Donna Grant's best ones. Follow the magic indeed! I give this book 10 stars!
An exciting, action-packed tale you won't want to miss! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
For centuries, evil Druids Deirdre and Declan have reigned on the earth, but a year ago Arran MacCarrick and his fellow immortal warriors killed them. In their quest to rid the world of the evil, the warriors lost many of their friends, but now hope to live in peace. Arran envies his friends who have found their women, all formidable Druids. They all live in MacLeod Castle and look forward to the day when they can get on with their lives and have children, something they do not want to do while they are still immortal and can outlive any children they may have. Before they can get on with their lives, they must find a spell that will bind the gods within them, but they still have not found it. With the accidental birth recently of a baby born to one of the warriors and his wife, the other wives are even more restless to have their own children. Tracing the spell down to a missing shipment hundreds of years ago and hearing about a dig where the spell may be located, Arran is sent to join the dig.
Dr. Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Reid, an archaeologist, lost her parents when she was just four and was raised in foster homes. With a love of digging in the earth, she discovered she has a magic that enables her to find lost items…items which speak to her from their grave in the earth. What she doesn’t realize is that she is a Druid, one of those who use good magic known as mies. Ronnie had been deeply involved in a relationship previously with a man who used her in order to steal her artifacts. Since then she has been unable to trust anyone. Still when a new member joins her dig, she cannot deny her attraction to him, even as she questions his reasons for being there. Fighting the sparks that fly between them, Arran and Ronnie work side by side on the dig. When Ronnie follows the voices in her head and unknowingly releases an evil, she begins to fulfill a prophecy. To make matters worse, there is a new darkness headed their way and it will be up to Arran to keep her alive. Can he protect Ronnie from the new evil, or will he lose the one woman he loves?
An exciting read, MIDNIGHT’S KISS, the fifth book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIORS series, is a fast-paced, action-packed paranormal romance that I could not put down. Arran and Ronnie were ideal together and the chemistry between them nearly pulsated through the pages. This story is sure to leave readers longing for an Arran of their own. Packed with humor, evil, magic, warriors, druids, a prophecy, artifacts, sizzling sensuality, romance and a forever love, this story is one you will remember long after the last page is read. A definite keeper! As a huge fan of Ms. Grant’s work, I recommend reading all of the books in this amazing series for a better understanding of the Warrior/Druid world and for additional reading delight. After reading this story, I cannot wait to read the next book in this wonderful series, MIDNIGHT CAPTIVE, due out in July 2013. In the meantime, be sure to pick up your own copy of MIDNIGHT’S KISS!
The world-building was fantastic, that was able to dive into a captivating world of immortals and ancient rivalries. The romance between the main characters was steamy and intense and I loved the way their story unfolded.
While some of the secondary plotlines felt a little rushed, the overall narrative kept me hooked from beginning to end. It was a solid, engaging read that definitely deserves a place on your bookshelf. I'm excited to see what will happen next in this series!
I am conflicted on this rating. If I only thought about the story I would rate it higher but on writing style, I would rate it even lower. The dribbling, exhausting repetition in the dialog is unbelievably tiring and to say that the secession in the various minor plots are so predictable is an understatement. This does it for me in this series.
I really enjoyed this book. It was great getting to know Arran, who previously always blended into the background for me. I was surprised how quickly the sexual need arose between him and Ronnie, which is why I was surprised that they didn't give into until as late as they did.... but whoa what a scene it was!!
“The clouds of the storm had darkened the sky, but it was light enough that he could be seen, so Arran walked to his SUV to make it appear as if he’d forgotten something.
After digging in the back for a moment, he shut the hatch and then leaned against the vehicle. The rain had never bothered him. He always found it odd that people in this modern world he now found himself in scurried out of it as if the rain would harm them in some way.
In his eyes, the rain washed away the filth that littered the world. And the world needed more rain.” - Chapter 4, Midnight’s Kiss
I am biased when it comes to rating this book because I’m a big fan of ‘The Mummy’ franchise with Brendan Fraser as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Rachel Weisz as Egyptologist Evelyn. I can seriously watch those movies anytime with all the rousing, suspenseful and even funny action adventure with some *swoon* romance added for good measure. Although the archaeological dig in this book takes place in Scotland as opposed to the Sahara Desert, I was still able to get the same feel from the story to that of my aforementioned beloved movies.
Dr. Veronica (Ronnie) Reid is a strong willed heroine whose character shows not so much weakness but rather vulnerability as evidenced by her mistrust of people due to unfortunate past experiences in her life. I didn’t know what to expect from warrior hero Arran but I was pleasantly surprised by his character as revealed to be not only a protective alpha male but someone who is extremely loyal and even has a playful side.
Once again while reading this series, I experienced a whole gamut of emotions with all Warriors and Druids that I’ve become acquainted with involved in various ways in this well written novel, including the unsavoury enemy Jason Wallace and others aiding him in his evil intentions.
One scene in particular had me laughing because I couldn’t help but visualize it in slow motion, like some cheesy television commercial:
“Ronnie unzipped the tent and stepped outside. Only to find her gaze riveted on Arran. He was shirtless again. All his wonderful muscles fully on display as he bent at the waist and dumped a bottle of water over the back of his head.
He straightened, throwing back his dark brown hair that looked nearly black when wet. He shook his head, sending droplets of water everywhere.
She watched water trickle down his face to his chest, and then zigzag through the valleys of his muscle to disappear in the waist of his cargos.” - Chapter 7
Don’t worry, Arran, you still hawt tho. 😁
The steam happening at the excavation site southwest of Glasgow, Scotland in this book may have been hotter than even the sands of Hamunaptra in ‘The Mummy’, but I’ll take either archaeological romance any day.
Let me start this review saying that i love this series! I discover Donna Grant book's purely by luck while searching for fantasy and i fell in love with the covers and blurbs.
This is the 5 book of the Dark Warriors series and for those of you that do not know Donna Grant books, this series is the second part of the Dark World that has began with the series Dark Sword. Although this is a book series, in the first chapters the author leaves little references and explanations for the important aspects of the world she has created as well as descriptions of what has happened in last book. For me it is an asset because i do not read her books in a row and between reads there are some details i do not recall.
Other great aspect of this series is the fact that we get to see glimpses of all the previous main characters from past books. We get a sense of family and union that i just love and so many twists and unexpected turns that it leaves us hanging by a thread.
This particular one is a sweet story, i was not particularly curious about Arran because he was not one of my favorite warriors but his mate compensate that. I just love to read about Ronnie and these two make a good match. The final of the book.... OH MY GOD! It is full of twists and i was desperate for a moment because of something that happens. You can really know how good a book is just for the simple fact that you cannot put it down and you cry all over it with emotions in a turmoil.
The only thing i did not enjoy in this books are the length of the chapters, sometimes they tend to be a little bigger than i enjoy and for me this difficult the reading. I was super curious to know what will happen in the next book and so i have already order it.
I gave this one 4,4 out of 5*, it was not a 5* book for me but it was close. The writing style captivates you from the beginning and like i have already state the final of the book is mind blowing. If you love paranormal romance you have definitely to start this series!
Fallon MacLeod and Larena are having some marital spat, because Larena really, really wants to start a family, while Fallon wants to wait until after their gods have been bound. The next place to find the spell to bind the gods is an archeological dig that Dr. Veronica Reed (a.k.a. Ronnie) is at. Arran MacCarrick volunteers to go to the dig to find this spell.
The book starts with two possible plots: the appearance of selmyr, which is barely mentioned after they first show up; and the emergence of Jason Wallace. The story itself is quite enjoyable as long as you are willing to suspend your disbelief and get past the annoyingness of Ronnie, at least in my case.
Jason is an impossible villain. A year ago, he was a poor, clueless loser, who didn't seem to have any idea about magic. Today, he is more powerful and more cunning than Deirdre and Declan combined. He has somehow managed to collect/convert many Warriors and droughs and has complete power over them.
Arran never got me excited in previous books, like Galen or Broc, but he seemed to be a very kind person. It makes me a bit angry at how badly Ronnie treats him, while he continues to do all he can to protect her both physically and emotionally. Arran is way too good for Ronnie.
It is very difficult to like Ronnie. While being tenacious and stubborn is not necessarily a bad thing, her thoughtless actions are extremely dumb, and would've cost lives if it wasn't for Arran. However, when something bad happens, she immediately suspects Arran, even thinking that he's plotting all the "bad" events to get her to trust him. She continues to be easily deceived and almost cost the Warriors their lives.
Now that both Deirdre and Declan are dead, the MacLeod clan finally has a chance to focus on finding the spell to bind the warriors' gods. In that search, they hone into the archeological site explored by Dr. Veronica Reid and her crew. Ronnie is a world-renowned archeologist whose Druid abilities help her to unearth ancient magical items. As soon as immortal warrior Arran MacCarrick arrives at her dig, he can sense magic. It is so strong that it disguises the druid magic that emanates from Ronnie, but not for long. She is beyond beautiful and competent. A lethal combination for the ancient warrior. But Arran also has a bad feeling about the progress of the excavation. There is something buried in the site. Something that he can feel should remain as such. Arran is attracted to the gorgeous doc, but he won't mix his priorities at this point in the game. He needs to keep his god leashed and his secret safe. At least until a series of mishaps cause the scales to turn against them. For one year the warriors were under the illusion that they had conquered evil. But as someone pointed out to them, there is no good without evil, and a new threat has risen to take Declan's place. Unfortunately, Jason isn't the only threat that Arran and Ronnie will face and as a prophecy adds tension to their situation, Arran and Ronnie will need to work side by side to survive and save the world from utter destruction. Need I say more?
The binge listen continues and I can't be happier. Romance, danger, suspense and lots of exciting battles. Magic can be found in many places in Scotland. Ronnie seems to have a knack of find it. As an archeologist she has a way to search without question. One of those that believe in her is Saffron.
The Warriors are still searching for a scroll to bound their gods. They have followed many leads and find themselves needing to be where Ronnie digs. Arran is sent to assist at the site and gain access to what is found. It becomes much more complicated.
Arran and Ronnie are deeply attracted to each other. He wants to protect her, including from herself. She doesn't always listen to reason. She soon finds herself in danger. Her talent could be used to find dangerous objects. The new evil wants those objects. The new evil wants Ronnie.
Many battles occur as he attempts to abduct her. I did love listening to the battles. I found myself ducking fireballs. Lightning rains down in an attempt to distract the enemy. Droughs, with major powers, fight against the warriors. It was touch and go on more than one occasion. A new weapon has the warriors at risk of death. I feared what would happen. I could only hope that Ronnie and Arran would find each other again.
I have waited for Arran story for a while. I was expecting it to be earlier in the series. While there were parts that I very much enjoyed I did not find that it held my attention as the others had.
Dr. Veronica Reid was an archeologist who had no idea that she was a Druid with abilities. She has always assumed her gift to unearth ancient artifacts was just that a gift. She did not share it with others. All too soon she is confronted with something more that just another person wanting to help on a site. She meets charismatic Arran MacCarrick. Arran was a lot more than she could every imagine. With him comes a lot of complications to her life, her work, and her future.
Arika makes this an even more enjoyable read, but not even her narration skills could keep me spellbound with this read this time around. I found myself drifting and often. I felt like there was something missing between Veronica and Arran. What captured me was the scene when one of my favorite warriors died. I could not put it down after that.
Ronnie is an archeologist who works for one of Saffron's companies. She is working at a site that may be where the lost scroll the holds the spell to rebind the warriors is. Aaron volunteers to go to pose as a helper. He can feel his god wanting to do something because they have not had to battle evil for a year. Aaron is attracted to Ronnie tight away and her magic feels different to him. He reacts differently to her than any other druid. Jason inherited Declan's mansion and discovered a hidden book. The book explained everything the Declan knew about the warriors and Deidre. So now Jason is after the warriors. He goes about it differently than any before him by using the drought instead of killing them. Another good book by Donna Grant!
This is book 5 in the Dark Warriors series and it combined magic, druids, immortal warriors and archeology. The warriors thought their life of fighting was over but a new enemy has come and they maybe more cunning than the previous ones.
The clues can found in the ground, Dr. Ronnie Reid can feel the objects calling to her, wanting to be found. Now she has a dilemma does she give in to the man who calls to her as strongly as her relics. Will she give in everything that Arran can give her?
Full of new enemies the warriors and druids from MacLeod castle must get ready to battle yet again. Donna Grant co tinues to weave this tale and we keep reading to find out the fate of all of them.
That asshole Wallace needs a beat down asap!! I wonder can they use their mid blood 2 counteract the drought blood? Thank god Lorena survived but Howie the question. Its crazy that her gift got her in trouble but so far there's no real bad consequence 4 her stubbornness she pulled by not listening. 2 bad they can't sum how turn those made warriors 2 their side. I thought men have stubborn pride but she does 2 like him in this lol
This was not my favorite book. Arran was alright and Ronnie was meh, together they were blah. When Ronnie did start to show a personality it turned out to be untrustworthy and useless. Things also started way to slow and it seemed like the first 50% of the book was just the same old thing that came from the previous chapter, just worded a little different. Things at the end did get a little interesting, but overall I’m glad this book is over.
Arran wants to find the spell to bind the gods that inhabit the Warriors. Not for himself, but for his brothers.
Ronnie can hear the music of magical artifacts. She didn't know she was a Druid until she inadvertently released a new evil unto the land.
I really enjoyed this book. There's a new form of evil with the selmyr and also with the new drough that's taken over the Wallace legacy. I'm looking forward to the next one.
