Spoilers for previous books (and this one; read at your own risk).
This is Charon's story. He owns most (all?) of a small Scottish town (Ferness). One of his joys is his pub, he lives above it. Laura works for him and he has a crush on her. Alas, she's not a Druid (or is she?), so he can't get involved. He secretly lusts after her and her him.
Things get more interesting when Laura gets them an invite to interview with Dreagan. They make highly prized and in demand whiskey and are careful who sells their product. But, there is something more about Dreagan. It turns out they are well aware of Jason Wallace and the threat he poses.
While Charon and Laura are the primary story, there is also Aiden and Britt's story. Aiden goes in search of answers regarding blood and what makes it different. Enter Dr Britt Miller. This also introduces the Dragon Kings (who get their own spin-off after this) and the Selmyr play into the outcome. Is Jason dead? What is Britt's breakthrough?
Phelan's story is next (and I'm so looking forward to it!)

This action-packed, sensual paranormal romance is a must read! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

For hundreds of years, Charon Bruce, along with his fellow Warriors, have fought evil, trying to make Earth a safe place for humans. Containing an ancient god within their bodies, the Warriors struggle to maintain control over them. The Warriors have managed to kill the two most evil Druids, Deirdre and DeClan, but just when they thought things would calm down, DeClan’s cousin, Jason Wallace, strikes. In the past the Warriors faced the X90 bullets containing drough blood, which is deadly to them, but this time Jason has done something to the ammunition to make it even more deadly. Despite being immortals, the Warriors may not be able to defeat Jason if they don’t find something to counteract the effect of the deadly bullets. In fact, Charon almost lost his life and he still carries a trace of the blood in his system, although he tells everyone else he is fine. Because of certain events in his past, he does not feel at home with the rest of the Warriors at MacLeod Castle. So after the battle, he retreats to his village, Ferness, where he has bought up quite a bit of land and has built a pub. During the last battle, the Warriors killed off many of the Warriors and Druids serving Jason, but the evildoer still managed to escape and seems to anticipate whatever the Warriors plan to do next. So now Charon and the rest of the Warriors must make plans to ready themselves for Jason’s next attack.

Laura Black’s mother and sister treated her badly when she was growing up and her father was never home to defend her. After two unsuccessful attempts to escape, she finally made it. Landing in Ferness, she managed to get a job working as Charon’s assistant at his pub. That was two years ago. She loves her job and feels at home in this small village. The only drawback is her attraction to her boss, Charon, although she knows he will not give her a second glance. She knows he has secrets that he refuses to reveal, even though she longs to help him with whatever is troubling him. Knowing that Charon desires a contract with Dreagon distillery, who manufactures the very best whiskey, Laura has been contacting them relentlessly, so far to no avail. So she is shocked when they finally agree to a meeting. But what they find when she and Charon attend the meeting is beyond belief.

Charon cannot deny his desire for Laura, but he has held back, refusing to get involved with one of his employees. What he wants is to find a good Druid, like the ones his fellow Warriors at MacLeod Castle have mated with. He has even checked Laura to see if she could possibly be a Druid, but he senses no magic in her. Just when Charon least expects it, Jason attacks his town, endeavoring to kidnap Laura in an attempt to make Charon suffer. As Charon gathers his Warriors and gains the help of some other friends, he wonders if he will make it out alive this time. Most important of all, can he keep Laura safe? With her in the thick of things, he knows he must disclose his secrets to her, but will they chase her away or draw her closer to him?

An engrossing tale, MIDNIGHT’S CAPTIVE, the sixth book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series, is an action-packed, sexy paranormal romance that will keep you up reading late into the night, unable to put the book down. But believe me; the loss of sleep is well worth it. In this book, Ms. Grant teams up the characters from her DARK WARRIOR series with her characters from her DARK KINGS series. Soon Warriors, Druids and dragons are running rampant in a battle to defeat the dark forces of Jason and his followers. But this time the Warriors are fighting a very wily opponent. Who will be left standing at the end is anyone’s guess. I also love how Laura makes some startling discoveries about herself in the midst of battle. Packed with originality, imagination, humor, Scotland, Highlanders, magic, surprising plot twists, intrigue, sizzling sensuality, suspense, tender romance and true love, this story has something for everyone.

Although this book can be read as a standalone, for better clarity and a complete picture of the whole story, I advise reading the whole series. There is also a secondary romance between Aidan and the hematologist he hired to look into the contaminated blood. I was thrilled to be reunited with the characters from the DARK KINGS series once more and hope their alliance with the DARK WARRIORS continues with future books in this series. As I eagerly await the next addition to this amazing series, MIDNIGHT TEMPTATION, which is due out in October, be sure to pick up your own copy of MIDNIGHT’S CAPTIVE. I highly recommend it!

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

Charon Bruce has always been a lone Warrior. He aligns himself with those at MacLeod Castle when the need arises, but is otherwise living his life in the small town of Ferness. A town that he owns the majority of.

Laura Black escaped her family that always treated her badly and dictated her every move. Now she works as Charon’s assistant and has for the past two years. He is a man of many secrets, but he gives her the means she needs to escape her painful past.

But both Charon and Laura’s lives are changed forever when Laura is targeted by the current reigning evil, Jason Wallace, in an effort to get to Charon. The Warrior quickly realizes he would risk anything, even his own life, to keep Laura safe. And, with emotions running high the two finally give in to the passion each has been trying to suppress for the other. But now that Laura has been dragged into the war against Jason, its Charon’s job to keep her safe and they both uncover secrets along the way that they never knew were even possible!

I love the Dark Warriors series and this book was a strong installment to the series. Charon was one of those characters that I really wanted to have his own book, so I was pretty excited to see this installment! The broody, but protective loner did NOT disappoint! His relationship with Laura was great and was set at the perfect pace. They have both lusted after the other in secret for the past two years and it was nice to see them finally give in to their deepest desires.

We also got a bonus relationship in this book, with a character I’d almost forgotten about. I won’t give away which character it is …. come on you have to read the book to find out some things! But that relationship was pretty sweet, but I’m a little sad that it doesn’t appear they will have a book of their own. Even a novella would have made me happy.

So the sex, passion, and action (in and out of the bedroom or other creative places) was really good in this book. The battle between the Warriors and both Jason and the selmyr made this an action packed installment. But my absolutely favorite thing about this novel is that it bridged two of Grant’s series! The Dark Warriors finally meet The Dark Kings! Keep in mind that you do NOT need to read the Dark Kings series to be able to understand the happenings of this book, but I HIGHLY recommend you read it beforehand anyway. The Dark Kings series is short so far with just three novellas that are planned to be combined into one bound book later this year, and really take no time at all to read. I think you will appreciate this book so much more if you already know the Kings. I read the series not that long ago and loved seeing everything fall into place in this book. It started out with a few sprinkles from the Kings series here and there to a complete accumulation with the characters between the two series having collided for a nice effect you’re sure to love. I’m anxious to see what the future holds for both series, and knowing Grant, I’m sure it will be great!

Now I must impatiently wait for October to see the other two Warriors books that I’ve been desperately waiting for: Phelan & Malcolm in Midnight’s Temptation & Midnight’s Promise respectively. What can I say? I love the loners! And, I’ve been dying for a Malcolm book for some time now and I CAN’T. FREAKING. WAIT! I have no idea how I’ll make it to the end of October for his book, but I’ll have to find a way, somehow.

Wow, really enjoyed this and the battle at the end with the Dragon Kings finally joining in the fun. I knew they were to join in this series and this is their introduction to the Dark World that Ms. Grant has created. I sort of started reading Dark World by reading the Dragon Kings first. I find them by accident as a recommendation. I thought why not and I've been having fun and a few good laughs with the entire series ever since. In between Dark King releases I've been catching up with the rest of the other series. I love this entire series of books. The Dark Swords, The Dark Warriors, The Dark Kings and of course the Reapers. I love this world state and universe.

Loved Charon and Laura's characters and found them to be a great couple and how well they got on with Constantine King of Kings of the Dragon Kings. So far out of the Dark Warriors this book is my current favorite. Action adventure, romance, mystery, battles, heroes and heroines. Even new demons to battle. This entire world state universe is great fun with the humor mixed in from all characters. A fun read regardless which book or part of the series you start with. Flat out enjoyable. I can't wait to read more.

Readers know Charon as one the Warriors who is there to help the others fight the evil that plagues them, but he chooses to remain away from them and MacLeod Castle. He has built a life in the place that he grew up, the place where he was the most happy before his god was unbound. There is another reason for him to be there though, Laura. She is only his assistant even though he would rather her be so much more. He knows that what he is and what she is not will always keep them in a completely platonic relationship though he wants so much more.

Laura knows that Charon has secrets, she has some herself. She has run away from a life that she has no intentions of ever returning to. She also strives never to be put in that situation ever again. Laura soon finds herself with a huge target on her back due to the fact that someone cares for her. Before she can discover why she has been targeted her life is turned upside down and thrown into a world of magic and immortals that she never knew existed.

Midnight’s Captive is thrilling and fast paced. So many new elements are brought into this magical series with this installment. I was also very pleased by the fact that readers are given more than one happily ever after. Readers also get to spend ample page time with the hero and heroines of the previous books in both series along with the characters we’ve fell in love with in the Dragon King novellas. It really is an all-around great book.

I find it interesting that while Charon and Laura are not my favorite couple of the Midnight Warriors series, Midnight’s Captive is definitely my favorite book of the series thus far. I loved all of the side stories we were treated to. Aiden is taking on a task that will hopefully give the Warriors and Druids an advantage in fighting Jason Wallace. The Dragon Kings get an amazing amount of page time and I believe we will continue to see more of them in the remaining Dark Warrior books. I just loved the fact that Jason is experiencing a little inner turmoil within his circle of evil.

I was lucky enough to win a ARC from Donna! =)

WOW!! That is the word for this book! Every book just gets better! I absolutely loved it!! I read it in 2 days and could not put it down.
This is Laura and Charon’s story.
Charon is a man set apart. Instead of making a home at the castle and the other warriors he returned to his home town. He is hurting for the decisions he had to make in the past. He thinks he doesn’t deserve to be happy after his betrayal.
Laura Black has worked for Charon for several years and she has longed for him to notice her. She is running from her family and just wants to have a home. Laura has became a target. They are running from a evil like none that has ever come before. She is thrown into this world she didn’t know existed. It seems like there is no hope for a future with her and Charon. Can they set aside their past and learn to trust each other? Charon has to learn to forgive himself and Laura needs to learn to confront her past and stop running.
Midnight’s Captive is fast past and has got tons of action! I loved the side stories in this book. We get to spend more time with the other warriors that we fell in love with and their druids. There is also another happily ever after! =) I’ve been wondering if he would get his story and he does! I won’t say who. No spoilers! I also loved that the Dragon Kings are involved. It gets me even more excited to see where their series goes! I can’t wait until they meet there heroines and shake up there lives! To sum it up this book is amazing! The romance is HOT! It is very well written and I can’t wait until the next one!

This novel is #6 in the series, "Dark Warriors" by author; Donna Grant. I LOVED this novel!! This one has to be my favorite in the series so far! This novel was totally action packed from the very beginning! Seriously, it's full of action, mystery, suspense, romance, betrayal and forgiveness. Not only did this novel have the Warriors, Druids, evil villain(s) but finally the reader is introduced with the story of the Dragon Kings which this series is going to lead into the new series of the "Dark Kings". Oh Yeah, so if anything, this novel is definitely a "Must Read"! I totally recommend this series, novel and author! You won't be disappointed if you enjoy this genre! Happy Reading!

I love that the Dragon Kings were finally introduced for "real" in this book. Having just finished most of the Dragon King series just a month ago, it was fun for me to see how everyone met each other etc.

And now that I know everything from the Dark Sword and Dark Warrior series, I can't wait to re-read the Dragon Kings, the whole Dark World really, in the right reading order that DG has posted on her website.

I love this Dark World world!

This was by far the best book in this series. I didn’t have high hopes after the last book, but right around 20% into Midnight’s Captive the story picked up and stayed on the gas pedal. There is a lot going on in this story. Charon was an amazing character and Laura his perfect match in every way. What really set this book apart from the rest of the series was the introduction of the Dragons. They added a whole new layer to the series, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

"Midnight's Captive" by Donna Grant. Book 6 in the Dark Warriors series.

So enjoyed this book in the series!! This book was packed with action from the beginning. The storyline in this book takes you so much further into the world of Warriors created by the author and we're introduced to a avenue of the world we haven't seen yet. A great setup for the spin-off series The Dark Kings. The main story revolved around Charon and Laura but there is a side story which involved Aiden, Quinn's son, and a woman named Britt, which I was so happy to see because I really wanted Aiden to have a happily-ever-after since he was born in the previous Dark Sword series.

Charon is not your typical Warrior. He doesn't really feel comfortable around the other Warriors at MacLeod Castle. After the defeat of Deirdre 400 years ago, Charon has been on his own, created a life for himself in his own town with a visit now and then from his fellow Warrior friend Phelan. Now that he's helped the MacLeod Warriors defeat Declan, a new villain has surfaced; Declan's cousin, Jason Wallace. Jason is much more devious than both Deirdre and Declan ever were and now, he's going after Warriors' loved ones. So Charon should be safe because he's attached to no one...right?

Laura has worked for Charon for the last two years. As his assistant, she knows him quite well. Well enough to know he has secrets and well enough to know to leave those secrets alone. But when she encounters him in is office, covered with blood, she tries to help but he refuses. She nows Charon doesn't have feelings for her so she's decided to get on with her life. And going on a date seems like a good way to get over Charon. Unfortunately, the date doesn't go as planned and Laura finds herself in a world she didn't know existed with a man she didn't really now well at all.

This book advanced the storyline toward the spin-off series very well. The only problem I had was that the underlining storyline throughout all the books, (finding the spell to Bind the Warriors' gods) was not addressed in this book at all; it was mentioned very fleetingly once or twice. A lot of action. Great chemistry between the characters, Charon and Laura, and Aiden and Britt. The descriptions of the "selmyr" (evil creatures) was horrific, so scary you could really picture them. A great set up for the next book in the epiloge. Overall an excellent read. It's really getting interesting and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next two books.

3.3/5

3.5 stars, because I really can't stand Laura

Laura Black has been working for Charon Bruce for two years. For some reason, she is the only person around who doesn't know that he is a Warrior. Neither knows that Laura has magic. Jason Wallace wants to kidnap Laura to hurt Charon. The selmyr start to pop up again (thanks again, Ronnie!), but Charon and the Warriors also find new allies.

The pace is fine, the story is pretty good, if you can get past Laura. This book appears to introduce a new series with Dreagan, which so far doesn't sound all that interesting.

Ever since the Warriors were introduced, Charon and Phelan were two of the Warriors I wanted to read more about, after Galen, Broc, and Quinn. (Un)fortunately, my enjoyment of the book also heavily depends on the heroines. "Boring" Logan and Ian get wonderful heroines, who make the books and Logan/Ian more interesting. Laura, on the other hand, is the worst female main characters in both series to date. I don't understand Charon's obsession with her, even thinking that he is not good enough for her. At best, she seems sweet enough and capable to do her job, at the beginning of the book. I do get that she has a terrible background, but to be a heroine, it would be nice that they could actually rise above all that despite horrible circumstances. She refuses to do what Charon asks, because everybody controlled her before, and ends up getting everybody in trouble. After everything Charon does for her, including telling her his story, she still refuses to tell him anything. She keeps bringing up that Charon doesn't trust her after two years, while she refuses to trust him. And as soon as he has his back turned, she decides to .

It's a good thing that we have Britt and Aiden. Last time Aiden MacLeod was mentioned, he came across as some bratty kid who was impatient to leave the castle. In this book, his reasoning is explained and makes him a lot more mature. Britt, unlike Laura, decides to trust Aiden after a short acquaintance and weird circumstances.

“Charon was right. Sometimes things called for a harsh curse word.” - Chapter 38

4 1/2 Dreagan stars!

This book was more filled to bursting than a set of Spanx trying to keep it together at an All-You-Can-Eat buffet dinner during Yuletide. So much so, that I’m going to generalize rather than get into specifics to spare everyone from a potential ten page essay.

It was packed with more than action, suspense and romance. There were secrets and trust issues galore, humour, all kinds of evil, fancy vehicles, whisky, secondary storylines, new allies...along with a few plot holes, as well as spelling and grammatical errors.

Mayhap the editors and proofreaders were also so very captivated by ‘Midnight’s Captive’ *grins* that caused them to overlook a few important details?

Even so, this book was awesome and I’m pleased that Charon Bruce and Laura Black found their happily ever after.

As much as reading my fill right until the end of the epilogue, I still eagerly anticipate the next instalment in the series - just as enjoying the crėme brûlée for dessert at the buffet while the distinct sound of body shape wear tearing at the seams can be audibly heard at the dinner table.

Because it’s irresistible.

After escaping Deirdre's mountain, immortal warrior Charon Bruce did something no other warrior did, he went back to his village and not only kept it safe, he helped it prosper. Few know what he is, but because of who he is, his people keep his secret and help him protect the place he loves. When Laura Black showed up at Charon's pub two years ago, she had been on the run. From the moment they met, Laura felt safe around the gorgeous pub owner. He gave her a job and a home. Until the day his enemy goes after Laura in order to hurt Charon. Laura had no idea what Charon was, but when he is attacked while trying to protect her, something inside Laura snaps. Overwhelmed with a power she never felt before, Laura changes everything. Charon doesn't trust easily and when Laura leaves him wondering which side she is in, Charon will need to face his demons and decide if he can put his trust in the woman he is falling for. Another battle, another foe. Powerful magic. Unknown enemies, but above all new allies. Midnight's Captive is another amazing read by Donna Grant, that will surprise readers with new secrets, players, and games. I loved it!

Hot damn a 2-for-1 Charon & Laura and Aiden and ???

I caught fire with this one. The one that was just before let me down but lead me to Charon. Laura Black has been working for Charon for a few years. There has been this attraction between them that she nor he has every acted on. That was until pushed to make things more. The secrets that surround Charon become competition for another secret that has been held by other much longer than the existence of the Warriors and Druids. There is a darkness that has come to take hold of the world and it will take more than the Warriors have to destroy it.

Seeing Aiden get his mate was worth all that and some. The danger, drama, suspense, action, and more. This was so worth the read. We also see when the Dragon Kings meet the Warriors and the series takes on a new turn of events. The assessment of the Warriors was an added bonus.

Arika makes another Warrior romance all that it was meant to be. I loved it.

This is another book from the Dark Warriors by Donna Grant and i have to tell that i really love this series.

In a general context there are druids divided between good and evil, there are warriors that have a god inside them and give them power to fight the evil, and there are many plot twists in these books.
In here we see more about Charon (a warrior that do not live with all the others) and Laura (a woman that does not know about her heritage) i really like their romance although Charon was not a character that i was desperate to read about.
One of the things i like most about this series is the felling of family, we get to see all the past protagonist and see how their

I discover Donna books because of her Dark King covers and since that time i'm reading all the books in order, so you could imagine how happy i was when i see and meet finally the dragon kings in this book.

Laura has worked for Charon for several years. He is attracted to her but since he can't feel her powers he thinks that she isn't a druid and that there would be no future for them.
Laura ran away from her controlling family and has found a place in the town that Charon runs as his assistant. She has been half in love with him since she met him.
Laura gets him an appointment at Dreagan so that they can sell and distribute Dreagan Whiskey. That is how we meet the Dragon Kings. Aiden also has a part to play in this book.
Jason has made a plan to kidnap Laura in order to make Charon suffer before he kills him.
This has been the best book of this series so far! Read to find what happens with the king's and Jason.

This book was one wild ride from beginning to end!!

Laura is suddenly thrust into a world she knew nothing about. All because someone wants to use her against her boss - Charon.

Charon tries not to look at his assistant, Laura, but he can't help it. When the newest drough wants to kidnap her and use her against him, he'll do anything to keep her from evil's clutches.

There is also the side story of Aiden, Quinn & Marcail's son, as he tries to find out why the drough blood affects the warriors as it does, and why another warrior's blood can stop it.

I really enjoyed this addition to the Dark Warriors series. And we get the bonus of the new allies!

This was a rare miss for me in this series, just too much going on with two couples, multiple opponents and a ton of moving plot points and locations in this installment. I get that she is setting up Dark Kings (which I love) but I just had a hard time focusing on this one and couldn't get into couple, they needed more time. Compared to Midnight's Master, which is my absolute favorite of the series it was lackluster (hence the brutal rating), but am still going to continue on to the next installment!

Even though Charon stayed in his town and helped its people he always tried 2 hide who he was but he had no choice 2 let only the people helping protect from anything. Its strange how laura didn't seen 2 know what her family was doing 2 her 4 urs. I don't quite understand those very evil creatures... Do they just try 2 kill the evils in the world or just anyone with any magic? Is that evil fucker Jason actually dead 4 good or just disappeared on everyone 2 get better? Hopefully Hes dead. Thankgod the baby was OK and they met their biggest allies 4 their future.

Midnight's Captive is an awesome listen. The warriors are still fighting Jason Wallace. His face is next to the word "evil" in all dictionaries. Where does he get is power? If he can't beat the warriors he plans to grab those they care about instead. Anyone that is close to a warrior or close to solving a problem is on his radar. The story is riddled with danger. The fear was real. At times I just didn't see good winning over evil. Especially when those things released from behind the door on the dig started showing up. Love is found but will it survive?

Charon, holds the gold of war Ranmond, has seen too many of the people he cared about die and refuses to act on his actraction to Laura. Laura fled her family and has crushed on Charon since she met him years ago. When the new evil druid attacks Laura everything changes, including the addition of the Dragon Kings to the fight. Aiden seeks a blood doctor to help fight the drough blood and finds his mate as well.

This had so many grammatical/spelling errors throughout the book, it was as if Donna Grant were in such a hurry to get this book published that she bypassed having an editor/proofreader and published the draft copy. I loved the characters and plot...I really did love Charon’s story as I did all the other warriors, but it was so hard to read at times, navigating through all the errors.

This series is captivating. As you read theough the pages you get transported to the Scottish Highlands. You feel the magic call to you as the characters embark on their journeys to save this realm.

Donna Grant generally has one pairing per book, but here we are caught up as the Warriors meet the Dragon Kings and their stories begin to intermingle.
