In the first chapter, Jeff Olson introduces his readers to the idea that every single person on this planet has the potential to either turn into a poor, unsuccessful beach bum, or into a successful entrepreneur with a huge balance on his bank account. He tells his own story – about how he went from failure to success to another failure, and how he slowly learned that failure and success both happen for the same reason, and that this one single reason can either work for or against you, depending on how you use it. The reader is motivated by reading on because they would like to know more about the idea that people have complete control about the direction their life is taking.

•How Successful People Do Things Differently

•The Reason Why Small Actions Produce The Biggest Rewards

•Learn How To Incorporate Self Discipline Into Your Life

The slight edge by Jeff Olson

Successful people do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do
Master the mundane
The small, seemingly insignificant tasks and turn them into habits
Constant, slow actions add up, but you have to stay consistent
Happiness - positive philosophy by Siligman.
1. Write down 3 things you are grateful for everyday, but not the same 3 things every day
2. Spend 2 minutes writing about something happy that occurred within the last 24 hours
3. Meditate daily
4. Practice one act of kindness everyday and don’t expect anything in return
5. Exercise for 15 minutes

Start with small steps, it’s better than nothing and it will add up

The laws of association. Be aware of the attributes we’re picking up from those around you.

4 forces:
1. Momentum - slow, continued movement is better than sprinting
2. Completion - to get passed the past. Spend at least 15 minutes per day actively completing things
3. Reflection - on how you have done each day. Write down what you did all day.
4. Celebration - acknowledge what you’ve done well

Both good and bad habits have a cumulative effect

7 positive habits
1. Show up
2. Be consistent
3. Be committed for the long haul
4. Have a positive outlook
5. Stoke the fire of your desires with goals. You have to see that you can achieve your dream with goals. Have a vision
6. Be willing to pay the price: be willing to give up things that consume too much time without adding value
7. Practice integrity: stick to your values even when no one is watching.

1. Write down dreams and be specific. Add deadline
2. Look at it every single day
3. Start with a plan, include the first step and take the first step

Assume nothing

Liked the book and this summary. The summary was much easier for me to read. I don't like a lot of examples.

Liked the summary better than book. Easy to read because I'm not an example reader. I buy a lot of summaries.

Succinct overview

I read a lot and many concepts can overlap. Sometimes I just need a refresher of the primary points, not 300 pages of rhetoric. This book does just that and does it very well.

Excellent summary

It is beneficial to most busy readers to be able to grasp an author's idea via a well composed synopsis. This summary succeeds.
