The Sound of Many Waters

Rate this book
Part historical epic and part modern-day adventure, The Sound of Many Waters follows two interwoven journeys separated by nearly 400-hundred years.

Dominic, the captain of a treasure-laden galleon on its way home to Spain, is notorious in the New World as a ruthless conquistador. But when his ship sinks off the Florida coast and he’s taken captive by the native Timucuans, he must fight for his life in a wild and unfamiliar world.

In the present day, Zane Fisher—a recovering addict—cannot escape the shadow of his checkered past. When a peculiar client charters his boat for what seems like a routine fishing trip off the coast of Palm Beach, Zane is thrust into a life-and-death struggle that forces him to flee into the dark underbelly of present-day Florida.

Despite the four centuries that divide them, Dominic and Zane each discover the same extraordinary secret—one kept hidden in the wilds of Florida for eons—and their stories converge in an incredible way.

This book attracted me by the title itself, then I read the reviews. I was very interested, but unsure of the story. Reviews alone told me to read it. They were right!! This was an absorbing book from the start, bringing together an old and a new mystery all wrapped up in a Florida legend of the conquistadors, several centuries apart, but bound together , nonetheless. I love how the stories meld together towards the end. At times, the writing was very predictable, that is the only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, it was a book that I had to finish in one day, just to find out how it ended!!! I will definitely read the next one!!

I really wanted to like this book as it was recommended to me. But I was just really disappointed. I think the *idea* of this book far outshines the actual execution. The last fifty pages or so had real potential, but that's about it. So, let's get down to it.
Dominic didn't deserve his redemption. He was pretty much a horrible person until the end and we didn't see enough of his atonement to make him likeable. Not when he is such a foul and evil person in the beginning. In fact, nearly every character sucks.
Every single female character is either angelic but sexy or somewhat maternal

I don't read a lot of books because it's hard for me to stay focused but this book was a gift from a friend. I read this book in one night. Man oh man this book had me hooked from the beginning! The two storylines in the novel kept me constantly in suspense. "Just one more chapter..then one more chapter after that"...until before I knew it I was on the last chapter!! It's weird because I still think about the characters from the book. The writer really makes them come alive. My sister read the book after I finished it and really wants it to be a movie! We sometimes go to coffee shops to do work and point out people who we might think could play the parts of different characters from the book. That's how much we love the characters!

~ a 29 year old filmmaker who loves a great story! :)

P.S. I visited florida a few months after this and went on a fishing trip! It was awesome to visit some of the places from this book!

This story is different to what I usually read, and is something that will be more appreciated each time it is reread. I would rate it 3.5 stars, but it is closer to 4 than 3 stars. The language was clear and thoughtful; well suited to the plot. I thought Lucia and Destiny's characters were especially great, but didn't like the inclusion of the Taxman and the part he plays towards the end. I thought it made the conclusion a little too hasty. Other than that, it was wrapped up and connected extremely well, especially since it is based on two distinct points in time. It's quite a meaningful book and I will definitely be rereading this one.

This was a freebie on kindle and got 4 1/2 stars on Amazon. It is all based around a Spanish ship in the time of the conquistadors that sinks in a hurricane and the gold it was carrying. It links a fantasy life four centuries ago with life today and was just too far fetched for me.
