For generations the Incenaga Witches have been forced to use their power to fulfill the wishes of others until they are drained of their magic and left to die. Desperate to protect his infant daughter - the last surviving witch - Emmeline’s father escapes with her to the forests where he vows to keep her hidden from the world and from the truth.

Sixteen years later, Emmeline is discovered and finds herself in the grip of a traitor who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means abusing her power until she dies. Debbie Dee recently moved to southern Idaho with her husband and three children where she is learning how to be a country girl in her favorite pair of blue heels. She adores fairy tales and happy endings, but secretly crushes on the bad guy now and then.

As a dedicated musician who practices way too much, she never expected writing would sweep her off her feet until she jotted down a scene from a daydream, which turned into two scenes, which turned into a messy house and her first novel. Since then she hasn’t been able to let a day go by without writing.

In addition to writing, she plays the piano, harp, violin, and gets in frequent fights with her cello. She loves to read and play board games - when she is winning.

I was lucky enough to see a post on Facebook about this being on the Amazon Kindle Lending Library and the day I saw it was the last day it was available too. I'm really happy I did because I had yet to decide what to borrow.

I wanted to love this book from page one, it had a great concept behind it and as Emmeline didn't know about her heritage or powers we found out about them along with her, whilst it was frustrating that everyone wanted to keep her in the dark - quite literally too as her power comes from fire - it was fine to deal with because of how the story developed. My actual issue was that for me the rest of the story was a little too predictable for my likings, it wasn't one hundred percent oh yes this is definitely going to happen for most of the story but it was still pretty obvious. I wouldn't let that put you off picking up the book though because this is something I deal with for most books and movies, I just have a natural talent for taking guessing with what's about to happen and more often than not, it does. I really need to stop doing that and to suspend my thoughts whilst trying to enjoy myself but that is easier said than done too - the only thing that I felt was very obvious was the Gamekeeper and his background, to me it was just too impossible that there wasn't more to him.

So I've pointed out why I didn't rate this book higher than three stars considering I really liked Emmeline's character development and I want to point out what else I liked too because it was a great read, just my brain lacks the ability to shut off. I believe one of my favourite things about this book is that we get to see how Emmeline's powers can be controlled by others, we get to see her at her weakest as well as her strongest, how she has no choice but to do others willings at times but also how she has to depend on another to control her if only for a brief moment to make guarantee their safety. Basically, I like how just because she's the main character with all this power behind her doesn't mean she always has to be strong and kicking butt. Also I think its set the scene well for the second book which I think will be a lot better and I'm looking forward to be able to read it.

If you are like me and are always looking for a book to get lost in, The Last Witch is it! The characters kept popping into my head during the day, and I couldn't wait for my nighttime reading . This book will result in late nights and lack of sleep! So worth it. The characters were well developed, and although I am by no means a part of the young adult audience, I found them to be age appropriate yet mature. Emmeline could be a worthy heroine for girls. Not once did I roll my eyes at their silliness, which can sometimes happen for me with this genre. The love story was very sweet and compelling, but there was nothing that would make me embarrassed to recommend this book to my mother or a teenager.

The scenery throughout was beautifully imagined. It isn't all prettiness though, there was action and suspense too. I found myself re-reading passages, not because they weren't clear, but because they were so lovely! Ms. Dee is certainly a talented writer. You know how when you finish a good book, you miss the characters and wonder what happens next? It's like that. A great ending to this story, but I really look forward to the next in the series!

This is a really different type of book for me. For some reason, books about witches and witchcraft tend to not make it into my TBR pile, which I am quickly regretting

The Last Witch is a great story about Emmeline, a girl not experienced in the world or with people. Suddenly taken from her home and her life, she is thrown into a castle where she is held captive to save her own life. Torn between the love of outdoors and being safe - she is stumbling through making new friends and trying to protect herself from new enemies.

Emmeline is a character that is easy to love. She is strong and witty and a survivor through and through.

Adventure, love, and a little magic. This book was great to read! And the cover is just beautiful!!!!

Detailed Review: I honestly liked the storyline, truly liked it because it was just too good to stay away from. I love the cover, which is especially lovely!

The story starts with Emmeline Durandi complaining that she's bored and lonely but then she hears a sound from outside her isolated house in Pamizak. It's the thunder of horses' hooves. Her father, who had been with her, immediately goes into a frenzy and starts packing things, which astonishes Emmeline because why would he do that if there were visitors coming?

Unless they weren't.

It appears that it is also a group of King's men from Dolmerti that have come to fetch their princess-to-be back to where their Crown Prince was waiting to marry her. But it turns out that he has gone on a trip and won't be back for a week or two.

It turns out that her father had signed a betrothal agreement which already decided Emmeline's fate for her. Also, her father was the king of Pamizak. Unbelievable.

When Emmeline is brought back to Dolmerti against her will, she starts to discover a plot to start a war between the two countries that she is in between in. She herself as a witch finds herself powerless as a man repeatedly tries to be her master. Being the last of the Incenagas, she wasn't going to let herself be enslaved until her power is used so she resists, though not without suffering for it.

How do you own an Incenaga witch anyways?

Answer is you have to be brave enough to stare into the witch's eyes when it holds the light of a thousand lights. If you can do that, she's all yours.

In one of Emmeline's adventures, she meets a handsome gamekeeper, Erick who she finds herself at ease with because of his crooked smile and his never-ending humor. Their relationship starts to develop into something more, more than they could ever imagine...

Meanwhile, she also meets Prince Weldon, the Crown Prince's younger brother, and finds him in desperately in love with her, which she couldn't accept. Not without being disgusted and confused by it.

But meetings with the King also manages to lighten up her moods since he's probably the smartest King I've ever known. Not to mention the humor and optimism he possesses despite his blindness.

Now to shock you out of your seat, Prince Weldon has turned out to be the traitor, the person who has been planning to start a war between Dolmerti and Pamizak, not Mahlon, the King's most trusted knight.

The plot involves Emmeline murdering the Crown Prince on their wedding night, which would certainly cause an outburst in Dolmerti. And even Emmeline herself can't say no, since she's already lost her own battle with the person who's trying to own her.

But one person she could never imagine saves her from what she has to do. Erick. You wouldn't believe this if I tell you now but I won't keep the truth from you longer.

ERICK IS THE CROWN PRINCE RICHMOND FREDERICK III.

I'm sure your mouths should be open with shock now. But I'll excuse that. So yeah... Emmeline ends up getting married to the person she loves. Happily ever after. There's going to be a sequel though... So I just can't wait to see how her fate will turn out after she's married!

Best witch's book ever!

Brief Review: The plot was good and I liked the setting. The boring parts, which were actually quite rare, were excusable after I read some good parts of the book. Some descriptions were quite vivid and they easily got stuck in my mind. The cover though, was what got me drooling the most!

Final Rating: 4/5 'Really Liked It'

Ok, firstly, I couldn’t stop reading this. I stayed up until 2 am trying to get to the end and hoping that this was going to be a part of a series.

Secondly, the ending was fabulous. I don’t normally talk about endings at the beginning of my reviews but it was so good that it could have been the end of the story. No cliff hanger. But I so want to know more about Emmeline! I was very pleased to find out that this is book one! YAY!

Ok, now for the characters, Emmeline is fabulous. She doesn’t know anything about being a witch or having powers so as she learns, we learn. You only get tid bits here and there about the Incenaga and why she is the last and why they can be so dangerous.

The BIG part of the book I was able to guess at. There are some things that hint to something that happens nearly at the end, but I was able to figure this portion out. Normally, if you’re able to guess at such a huge part, maybe you wouldn’t be interested in continuing to read, but the way this was written, I just couldn’t stop. I wanted to know if I was right. I was but even when I got to the part that validated my guess, it made me want to continue. Now, I have to say, I’m sorry for the intrigue! But really, I don’t want to spoil this for anyone! The story was well worth finding out what was happening.

Sadly for Emmeline, she feels as if she can’t trust anyone and this distrust just builds as the story continues. It’s amazing how the plot builds and the stress builds! I found myself wondering how she was going to get out of the messes she found herself in, but Emmeline is a brilliant gal and a fabulously written character. I love every bit of her.

Erick also added quite a bit to the story. He was the one that I hoped she could trust above all. But even with him, you’re left being curious as to what exactly his intentions are. He is my favorite character but you don’t know if he or if anyone else is on Emmeline’s side until the very end!

As I said above, the ending is wonderful, but these characters leave you wanting to know more, even after the story is finished. I can not wait for book two! Absolutely brilliant writing! I’m definitely a fan of Debbie Dee’s!

The Last Witch is a fairy tale, but it doesn't have the textbook happy ending. Emmeline is a poor farm girl who discovers that she has special powers that everyone seems to want to control, but she is betrothed to a prince in a country she has never heard of. When it's time for her to marry him she isn't sure she wants to be stuck married to some guy she doesn't love just to unit the two countries. There are various villains in this book and it is sometimes hard to figure out who is really trying to manipulate her. It seems that all will not end well and her father may die if she doesn't do as she is told. This is Emmeline's journey to discover herself. As you read you can only hope and pray she will be able to marry the man she loves.

The characters are well described and life-like. I just had a hard time believing some of the story line. I also wondered why Emmeline never finished reading the Incenaga Witch book that was left for her in the library.

I must say that the story was well written with a graphic description of the story setting, often too descriptive making it hard for me to push forward with reading the story. I also questioned why a major character in the book watched from the sidelines, but seemed to be completely unaware of what was going on with Emmeline, even though the premise for him being there was to watch out for traitors. She also spent the majority of her time with him.

Overall, the book is a good read, especially for young adults. The characters are wholesome, but intriguing. As a reader I do not like a lot of flowery scene building. I loved the cover of this book as well. I give this book four stars and suggest you give The Last Witch a read. This author is talented and definitely has more literary material hidden inside of her. I can't wait for part two.

What would you do if someday someone appear at your door and drag you away from home to marry a person you have never seen before? What if you discovered an important part of your life that has been kept as a secret from you?

Emmeline has never known that she was the last Incenaga Witch alive. When a group of men comes to her door claiming she has to go with them because she has to marry a prince, who she has been engaged with since a baby, her life is put upside down.

After being captured, she is kept captive in a castle and her powers start to grow. She meets a mysterious gamekeeper, who shows her beautiful places in the kingdom, the stables and keeps her company during her solitude.

Emmeline is a beautiful character, unaware of the potential of her powers, a very strong girl that only wants to be free, help her father and protect a prince she hasn't known yet, a proof of her good heart. We see her evolve and turn into a brave woman.

Of course we have a male character, Erick. He is a sweet guy, honest, handsome and with some secrets. But I have to say that at some points his secret identity was a bit obvious. However, his scenes and dialogues were funny, romantic and made the book greater.

The book counts with a really bad guy who is not afraid of hurting a girl just to get what he wants. The story is complete with treason, secret alliances, good fighting scenes and a good ending.

One of the best things is the rhythm of the story, which is very different to most YA novels. The book moves on with a strange and real timing. I love this fact because I didn’t know what to expect.

Debbie made an excellent job with this book, not only is very entertaining and make you feel a wide range of emotions, it also leaves you waiting for more.

Hidden away in the depths of the forest for many years by her father, Emmeline has had no contact with anyone besides him and she also has no knowledge that she is a witch. But not just any witch. She is the last living Incenaga. But one night the kings men pay a visit and she is forced to flee but is eventually captured and taken to the castle where she is told that her father had promised her hand in marriage to the crown prince of Dolmerti. Upon arrival at the castle she is informed that the prince is in fact travelling and will not return for quite some time. She is held a virtual prisoner in the castle and it is there that she see's true evil in the form of Mahlon, the King's Principal Knight.

Longing to be outside in the sunshine she makes an escape onto the grounds and meets the handsome gamekeeper Erick. A friendship develops between the two but Emmeline's feelings soon turn to much more even though she knows that nothing can come of it because she is set to marry the prince.

Emmeline experiences such harshness but she is so full of strength and determination. I loved her relationship with the King and I hope that we get to experience more of that in the next book. Erick was so caring and protective and him and Emmeline were so sweet together. Mahlon, was so full of bad!! He is just a horrible, horrible man who had me cringing at some of the things he did!!

Debbie Dee's The Last Witch is such a wonderfully written and descriptive story. Lots of action and suspense that is guaranteed to keep you engrossed from the first page to the last!! I will definitely be reading the next book in the series!!

4.5/5 Stars!!

Debbie Dee captured my attention within the first few pages and held my attention until the very end. It's rare for a book to keep me enthralled as The Last Witch did. I credit the innocent, loving characters of Emmeline and Erick and the intriguing plot for keeping me immersed in the story. Emmeline is such a sweet character. Like most young adults, she struggles to understand her heritage and place in the world. She recently learned she was the last incenga witch. However, she doesn't understand the true significance of her power. Erick is an honorable, young man. He envisions a prosperous kingdom by creating trade agreements with other lands unlike others who believe the kingdom will only prosper through war. However, the King's right hand man, Mahron, has different plans. He wants all the power and the control. Mahron will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of war. Unfortunately, I don't like to give any spoilers in my reviews. So, everyone will have to read The Last Witch to see which prevails: innocence and good or power and greed.

I highly recommend this book. It was a pleasantly surprising read. I loved it! I hope to see more of Emmeline and Erick in the future.

I received this book free from the quote in exchange for and honest review.
I fell in love with this book from the moment I started to read it. Debbie Dee has created a scary but beautiful nation hell bent on the extinction of witches and even going to fight wars over it. But luckily we find out that there is one last witch. There is so much present in this novel but also just as much good. Everything keeps you begging for more. I also enjoyed the idea that the Incenaga witches harness their power from the fire, but it is also their greatest weakness. I found it very interesting how they can be controlled by looking into their shining eyes. This is just a great fantasy novel overall.
I loved how quickly Emmeline became socialized from only ever interacting with her father to becoming a princess. She was also so strong and brave to have went through what she did and not just give up. I did find Erick's secret rather predictable but it was still cute. Also I found Erick to be a very honourable character. I can't wait to see how their romance blossoms and what adversities they will have to overcome in the next instalment.
This is an awesome story for fantasy lovers. I can't wait to start on book two. If you love stories about witches, kingdoms and magic, then this is a great book for you topics up.

First I got a want to mention I got a copy of this book from the author herself. It in no way altered my feelings for this book (which are of my own opinion). I am grateful for the opportunity I had to read it. Now, on to the review.

I can't say I loved this book but I didn't hate it either. Half of the time I was found myself wanting to scream at Emmaline for this or that. The other half I enjoyed. This book starts off great. You get drawn in from the very first page. The author's attention to detail was amazing. And the ending was just as good. Then there was the middle half of the book.

I had to force myself to read it. I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. Once I even felt like throwing my computer across the room because I had become frustrated with the montony. Finally, I pushed threw it until the end. I was glad I did.

I give this book a PG-13 rating because of some pretty graphic violence. There wasn't much of it but it was enough that I wouldn't suggest this to any kid under a teen. All in all the book left me excited to find out what happens next.

This book was amazing... Once I started I did not want to put it down. I regretfully had too because of my job, but I found myself thinking of all the characters while I was away and compelled to finish it as soon as possible . This book has everything for every type of reader. Action, adventure, mystery, romance and fantasy. The main character Emmeline transformation in this book is wonderful. The strength she gains is empowering. This story had me at the edge of my seat, biting my nails and heart pounding.

The pace of the novel was great too even though it took place over months the author focused on the action and adventure of certain days instead of going into extensive detail of long drawn out days. The story was unique and I found myself drawn in from the first page, as Emmeline discovers her powers a lot of openings for the story that lead the way for the next two books in this delightful trilogy to explore and I am looking forward to reading every one

I don't normally read fantasy of any sort, but a family member recommended this book, so I thought I'd break out of inspirational romance mode and give it a try. . . and I could hardly put it down and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Good usually overcomes evil, but it's hard to tell in The Last Witch who is good and who is really evil but pretending to be good. I think the book has a good lesson for young people to not be caught up in good looks and nice words and make sure they don't think someone/something is good when it's really just a pretense.

In the beginning of the book, without giving away the incredible first scenes, I felt Emmeline's pain and her confusion almost as if it were my own since the author described both so well. I ended up wanting to be Emmeline and to have her characteristics. The hero was gentle and loving but also wise and strong -- pretty much the perfect man!

Thanks for a great read -- the romance and suspense were wonderful!

I really adored this book and stayed up way too late finishing it because I couldn't put it down. It's always rather wonderful when you find a book that captures your imagination so entirely that you are literally craving reading time, thinking about the characters while you are doing your dishes, and then immediately recommend the book to friends as soon as you are finished so that you can have someone to hash it all out with. The book reminded me a bit of Shannon Hale's Books of Bayern Series...similar in setting and character. I enjoyed tremendously the rich attention to detail, the believable romance and the fleshed out characters...my favorite was probably the King, he was just great! There were some plot points that I saw coming, but then also some that took me by surprise. I thought the book was truly imaginative and am fully impressed with the author's writing and style. Looking forward to the next installment.

I really enjoyed this story. It was fun, sweet, and had a bit of adventure throughout. The romance I felt was a bit obvious, but really cute and sweet so that more than made up for it. Emmeline is a strong character with a lot of determination that you just have to admire. Erick is a strong character, who is a perfect hero with a couple of flaws thrown in to boot. I love their story. The plot is well created and leads you through the story while still managing a few good surprises and mysteries. I felt there were a couple of loose ends that were never tied up, but perhaps they will play into the next book.

Usually I don’t read witchy/fantasy books but despite this, I found myself really enjoying this book. The storyline was different and interesting, I found myself being sucked into the world of Emmeline and feeling exactly what she was. I didn’t ever find myself bored with the book- something really rare for me when it comes to fantasy novels. I absolutely loved the ending, and I was completely surprised by the little twist at the end. Definitely going to recommend this to all of my friends and I can’t wait for the sequel!

Oh my goodness!! This book was so captivating and engaging!! I couldn't put it down once I started!! The characters are well developed and the story line was original and kept you guessing!! The imagery the author invokes through her words make it feel like you are there with the characters experiencing everything first hand. The only disappointment I had was that there wasn't a date for the release of the sequel in this trilogy!! Well done Mrs. Debbie Dee, well done indeed!!

This story is full of nail biting, heart pounding, nerve-wracking action and dilemmas for Emmeline & Erick to face. This book really has it all - good guys, bad guys, fights, death, adventure, mystery, sweet romance (perfectly YA) and the fantasy aspect of witches. I didn't want it to end and I look forward to the story continuing! I can't wait to continue Emmeline & Erick's story & see what the "bad guys" come up with next!

I liked the story but the writing felt a little jerky to me...did not really flow. There were some modern slang type words and descriptions that did not fit the timeline of the story and some typos that annoyed me. I knew who the prince was by chapter 6 which kinda ruined the story. The harp totally gave it away . It was a fast read.

THE LAST WITCH is the first book in the Incenaga series, and we start off in the dark just as much as Emmaline is. We stay by Emmaline's side throughout, learning as she does about who and what she is, what she can do, and the dangers involved.

The idea behind the Incenaga Witches was brilliant and allows us to see Emmaline as she comes to understand the power and the danger. I loved how it was something that could be used against her, and yes, I know that sounds odd! Trust me though, if you read it, it will make sense. I promise!

The world-building, descriptions, and character-building are all brilliant, leading to a slightly predictable but oh so enjoyable story that sets up book two excellently.

This was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and have no hesitation in recommending.

Nice coming-of-age story about a young girl who is snatched from the comfort and love of her isolated forest home and discovers she has powers and a royal heritage she had never known about. Engaged to the crown prince of a threatening neighbor kingdom in a political marriage to lessen the tensions between her country and theirs, she has to figure out who to trust and how to handle her powers. In a way, the story is a kind of lightweight cousin of Shannon Hale's Bayern series, but without the depth of characters and food for thought. Dee did a good job of world-building and I enjoyed reading it but would relegate it to my shelf for younger readers.
