Today the most important function of any manager is to implement change, and Teaching the Elephant to Dance is a practical, hands-on guide to creating effective change in any organization. It explains how successful managers decide on a new direction, communicate their vision, and much more.
This book was assigned in a management class that I took several years ago and I am very embarrassed That I am just now getting around to reading it. It is well written and covers many valid points. Unfortunately is is also very dated and the examples used are not really relevant to today. Probably time for a revised edition
Significantly dated, but the principles are sound. It should be reissued with follow ups on the original stories, as well as companies that are more relevant today. If you're seeking a book on organizational change, this one should be part of a much larger collection and not relied on to be the sole resource.
I went though periods of being inspired one moment to bored the next. The book and examples are very dated but still teaches a very valid point today. We need to be anticipating changes and thinking not just about tomorrow but the next year and the next decade.
