Foreign Son
Son of Harlem, Lieutenant Vincent LaSalle has unexpectedly come home for a single day. Tomorrow he will begin the journey to rejoin his unit in England. Heartsick with love and worry for the soldier who unexpectedly appears on her doorstep, Vierna Lillis nearly faints with surprise. The couple’s brief reunion is only the beginning of a story that traverses the globe and takes both to places neither could have imagined.
In England, Vince becomes linked to Jan Holling, an adjutant to the code breakers and the woman sent to Berlin on a harrowing mission from which she will likely never return. When she and the international team she is a part of are captured and tortured, because of fears about secrecy, an outsider is needed to affect a rescue. Vince is recruited and asked to do the impossible—steal into Berlin with the help of the Polish resistance and rescue Jan and the others. Amazingly, the dark soldier is able to achieve his target. But will he and the others make it out alive?

Non-stop action
Foreign Son is a riveting novel taking place near the end of WWII. Non-stop action and suspense, exceptional writing, while bringing to light injustices some Americans ensued because of the color of their skin. Can't wait to read the sequel (Flight).

“Foreign Son” is an aptly titled story of Vince LaSalle, a man who honorably serves his country during World War II but is often treated like an outsider because of the color of his skin. Although his accomplishments and expertise precede him, he is purposely thrown into impossible situations just to test the system, which only overshadows his triumphs. The story is a skillfully written, thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. And the addition of Vince’s romantic feelings for his fiancé, Vierna, as well as the loyalty he evokes from the men and women around him, makes him a very likeable tough-guy. I enjoyed the book thoroughly, especially when Vince’s commitments take him to London and Berlin, places I have traveled to, as well. Great story, great characters -- I’m looking forward to book two!

This book was hard to put down. Fast moving, engaging. Could not wait to read the sequel. Looking forward to the continued story, particularly the romance between Vince and Verena.
