Uriah takes his boyfriend Kent to a haunted house to have some Halloween fun. But unlike Uriah, Kent hates Halloween and creepy things.

Not Microwave Safe is a pretty good short story, perfect for Halloween!
“I promise to hold your hand the whole time we’re here. And you won’t have to worry about nightmares anytime soon. When we get home, I’ll show you my appreciation for coming here by being your love slave until you’re too exhausted to even dream.”

The cover is great it does it's job brilliantly. I hate clowns they aren't cute or funny, in fact they give me the shivers and are nightmarish. So when Kent is persuaded to tag along with Uriah to a haunted house, that's when the fun and games start. I have to admit I couldn't help laughing at the spooky creepiness as Kent and Uriah journeyed throughout the house. Clever story and I loved the little surprises, it worked for me. Great short freebie, go read it and be scared and amused at the same time.

These Kyle Adams shorts are killing me. In a good way, but still, I'm fucking dying here.

He writes characters that are so relatable you wouldn't mind them getting off the page and grabbing coffee with you. His MCs have undeniable chemistry - he doesn't need to shove how hot they are together down your throat (though you wouldn't mind if he did. *wink wink*). And it doesn't matter if it's an RPG group meeting, an ordinary office, or a pretend haunted house, he makes ordinary settings come to absolutely delightful life. On top of that, he doesn't let you pay for any of it.

So why exactly am I whining like a little girl? 'Cause as much as I love - and I do love - the shorts, I'd maim someone's pet for a full length Kyle Adams novel.

Or I'd beg? Right. Begging seems simpler. So let me put this right here just in case.

Fun free short!
I've read a few of Kyle Adam's shorts and have enjoyed them all!
This one is scary, but not terribly so..but I totally understand Kent, I don't think clowns are fun or cute either, they freak me out!
Kent and his boyfriend Uriah go to a Haunted House, Uriah is a huge Halloween fan and loves spooky and scary, Kent doesn't!
I won't go into detail and ruin the suprise! Go ahead - read it!

Fun freebie that is filled with twists regarding 'adventure' in the haunted house. I love how tables keep getting turned. It makes a wonderful TV episode for upcoming Halloween. Oh, by the way, I ALSO HATE CLOWN!! I'm supporting Kent for 'punishing' his boyfriend *grin*

PS: Maybe in the sequel, we can see "how" Kent punishes Uriah? Hmmm, sexy ^_^

Another cute (hard to believe, given the blurb, I know) freebie story from Kyle. Also hard to believe this whole story plays out in so few pages, yet it never feels rushed or incomplete. It's funny and cute and gory with a few ewwww moments, and I loved how everything falls into place. It was a very enjoyable seasonal story, and I hope to read many more like them from Kyle in the future.

This is a 4.5 star for me, but I'm rounding it up for the awesomely vibrant cover. Love that clown!!

Another freebie and winner from Kyle Adams. Freaky clowns * shudders* and a creepy Halloween house, but is all as it seems! Loved this and would really like to see more of Brandon and Kent. I've said it before but I'd happily pay for any of Kyles short stories and never feel cheated. Great cover on this too... That clown is suitably fright-worthy!

Creepy Halloween tale. The first part had me going for a bit, not a haunted house/freaky clown fan! I do love nerdy, slutty vampires though so the story balances out. :D

I don't usually give 5 stars to short stories but I've made an exception for this one. I was laughing and cringing...what an awesome combination.

This was a great combo of spooky and funny with a splash of cuteness. Kent and Uriah are boyfriends who decide to visit a new haunted house. Things are strange from the get-go and just seem to get worse as they go on. The clown is freaky…I do hate clowns. There are twists and turns and the ending took me by surprise. For a short story it never felt like anything was rushed or missing. This story was the perfect way to start my Halloween season.

Once again, I'm sucked into the characters Kyle creates. So real and charming with their smart and quirky personalities and strengths and insecurities. All easily evident in just a few short pages. Kyle needs to quit with that whole real world business and get down to writing more.

Special thanks to Shadowphen for making this cover, which I think is perfect for the story.

This is more of a silly and fun story than a scary one. At least that's what I thought.

While discussing a Halloween reading challenge with a group I co-moderate on here, I said that I was all for reading Halloween type books with the condition that I not be asked to read anything about clowns. They creep me out. So what happens? My favorite short story writer on here not only puts out a new short about clowns but it's a Halloween story and he was kind enough to send me an advance copy.... and here's the best part... just because. No expectations for a good review or anything. He just sent the story (to me and others) a couple of weeks before release date because he's a good guy. I had to point that specific part out because I have been offered ARC's in exchange for a "glowing" review by others (and no, I haven't accepted those). It's nice to see an author do it just because.

This was a blast. Two men go to a haunted house. One is terrified of anything creepy... mainly clowns. The other is all eager to live a little, have a little fun so he drags his boyfriend to this old house and what they find inside is not what either expected.

I hate it but I can't say anymore without totally giving away the story. As with others from this author, there are quite a few funny parts but there are also some creepy parts (did I mention the damn clowns????)

Once again, Kyle Adams wrote a very entertaining story. I was very surprised over how everything played out but it was perfect. So much said in only a few pages. I look forward to (hopefully?) another installment with these guys.

Another Kyle freebie, and another one that I've enjoyed...apart from the fact that it's about Halloween and clowns....shudder!! 4 stars

I've never been keen on clowns...they give me the willies for some reason, and yes, some of my nightmares have had the swines in them, grrr! Halloween of course is not really a UK thing, it's been imported from the US like Ronald McDonald and Walmart, but I can understand kids enjoying it, it gives them another excuse to run riot, high on the sugar rush from all the free sweets!!

This was a cute tale about Uriah (wow Kyle, what a name!) and Kent, his boyfriend, who seemed to be doing all they could to scare each other to death...well, Uriah was, but he didn't know that Kent also had a few moves up his sleeve!!

Okay, so the clown on the cover almost stopped me from downloading this. But I gave myself a slap, told myself it was free and at 13 pages how traumatic could it be. I'm serious, people. Don't mock the coulrophobic.

I liked this little story of surprises. I told myself the whole time that it was a prank but then I started to doubt and then it was a little scary (because I can so understand why Kent doesn't like clowns and finds them creepy!!). But the twist in the end was funny although I have to admit that I didn't fall for it. Kent was just too relaxed for it to be real.

Good Scares. Great set up.

Disappointed with ending. No emotional connection to the characters.

All that said, it was free and took about 20 minutes to read. You could do much worse with 20 minutes of your time.

A tongue-in-cheek short horror story about a couple who come across a murdered clown on Halloween. I don't want to give anything away so I'll try and keep this vague, but there are two twists that come very quickly one after the other, and I think the closeness of the second twist knocks the pacing a little off-balance. If the story were just a bit longer, the tension could be drawn out a little more. As it is, because the first twist hasn't had time to settle, I knew exactly what the second twist was the moment it turned up. A longer space between them might have distracted me enough not to see the immediate link. There. I think that's vague enough...

Also, clowns are horrible creatures. Why are they all so damn disturbing?

Flawed, as other of my free Nook books have been, by apparently missing one or two of the first pages of the story. But I guess you get what you pay for.

The subtitle says this is A Halloween Story, and with justice. I have an intense dislike for modern horror movies: the most gore I want to see is the Hershey’s syrup running down the bathtub drain in Psycho. I read one Stephen King book and can’t face trying again. Face it—I’m a wuss. I came close to needing to abandon this. And that was because both main characters were keeping secrets from the reader. But despite my mantra “I do not want to see intestines spewing across the hallway”, I did finish it. And I haven’t deleted it from my Nook account.

This story was not what i assumed it was. The tags for this book are completely incorrect! Talking about being punished, kissing and groping does not make this in any way shape or form a m/m contemporary book. It is barely a romance. Whoever tagged it as so should reread it!

I originally wanted to rate this book as a one star book because of how pissed off it made me but i am unable to do that.

The story was actually cute, funny and a little creepy. The author used enough details for me to be able to picture the things they saw. For that reason alone, i can add an extra star because it showed great potential of a good writer. Horror has always been my favorite subject when movies are involved and this portrayed great imagery.

A case of the prankster getting outpranked! A short, creepy story about a clown with an exploding head, headless body, and yet another clown (as if one wasn’t creepy enough) that are meant to frighten. Kent, it seems, may be a little more susceptible (to the fright) than most. However, you know what they say about paybacks!

Spooky goings on with Uriah and Kent visiting a haunted house - but who's pranking who?

13.9.16 reread : great spooky short - a few bumps and bangs from upstairs would make the ending even more worrying!
