"За пределами любви" - вторая книга трилогии, продолжение романа "Фантазии женщины средних лет", который был номинирован на Букеровскую премию и переведен во многих странах мира. В своем новом романе Анатолий Тосс поднимает вечные вопросы: жизни и смерти, любви, страсти, преданности и предательства. Читателя ждет напряженная интрига и неожиданная развязка.
Anatoly Toss is one of the most popular, contemporary Russian writers. Literary critics in Russia and abroad compare Toss to Nabokov, Tolstoy, and Turgenev. The sales of his books in Russia alone have exceeded 4 million copies. His works have also been translated to many other languages and sold throughout the world in countries including China, Poland, Norway, Greece, Taiwan, The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and more. His latest novel, FANTASIES OF A WOMAN IN HER PRIME, is his first novel to be translated to English, exposing this enticing work to an extraordinarily fortunate new audience.
The afterward in this edition of the book (in Russian) claims that this book could be considered a splendid follow-up to Nabokov's "Lolita", where we have an opportunity to hear the story from a perspective of grown-up Lolita (Elizabeth/ Katryn). Although the connection to "Lolita" definitely can be found, this book is no match to beautifully written prose by Nabokov. The dialogs in the first half of the book are so poorly written, they seem as amateur translations from English to Russian. Moreover, the superficial description of Elizabeth's feelings is astonishing... I am determined to read another book of this author, but "За пределами любви" is definitely NOT the author's best book.
