It is Lily’s first day in the Velesi realm but not as the princess she was made to believe, but as a captive to a strange Lithi elf name Ziri – Tharin and Tolan’s mysterious brother. Who is he and why has he taken her? Or is he only a pawn in someone’s deadly game of chess?
Tharin and Lily discover a prophecy involving the Unnamed Sidhe and a way back to Eirrell, the birthplace of the Thirteen Clans. However, before they can get to the doorway to Eirrell, Lily must first make it to the Day of the Seating to take her rightful place on the throne of the Willow Clan.
Tharin must keep Lily safe until the Day of the Seating even if it means keeping the beautiful Sidhe warrior Kalis close to him. Will he be able to protect his naïve, but stubborn bride-to-be not just from Harlu but from his warrior mistress? He once again turns to his brother and cousin, to only find that Tolan has his own problems with his feisty Julia.
Thank goodness for the future king of Velesi that he has Phoris, Alorn and Mellis to cover his royal back.
Welcome to Velesi, a realm existing alongside our own with their own rules, their own players and their own way of life.
L. Filloon was born in Leone, American Samoa. At a young age her family relocated to Hawaii and settled on Oahu. In 1977, her father once again relocated the family, this time to San Diego, eventually making National City, California their home. Although she started writing during her junior high school years, it wasn't until late 2011 that she self-published her first book, The Binding; the first in The Velesi Trilogy. Book 2, The Drifting, will be available on Amazon.com for Kindle on November 9, 2012. The final installment to be released in 2013.
Three words: Drama, drama, DRAMA. UGH. It was terrible! Maybe it was just because I had such high expectations after completely LOVING the first book. But I made it 40% of the way through this second book before I actually found myself skimming 10% of the book. I started to enjoy it again, but no-- more ridiculous drama hit and I was skimming again. I'm just so disappointed because I loved the first book so much :(
This is a rant so yeah, *SPOILER ALERT*
The parts between Tharin & Lily were horribly disappointing to put it lightly, and I cannot STAND it when 99.99% of the conflict in a relationship is based on........ NOT COMMUNICATING. God! Tharin was planning on talking to Lily about everything going on once they reached safety but no- she got kidnapped. BUT WAIT, it was actually an orchestrated abduction for her own safety and just like that they can't see each other at all for three weeks. Lily spends the first half of the book being a whiny, insecure, STUPID heroine honestly believing that Tharin who hasn't talked about his ex girlfriend AT ALL since meeting her, was really just stringing her along. Tharin is so devastatingly sweet and tender towards her? She thinks, "Oh no he's in love with Kalis" and whines again. And Tharin was going to come clean with her about what all happened between him and Kalis? LOL when they FINALLY get the chance to talk about it, he makes some completely inappropriate comment to Lily AND THEY DO NOT TALK AT ALL. DRAMA.
DRAMA
AND MORE DRAMA.
And then they share their first real kiss AND IT WAS SO GREAT (I mean it, really). It was so awesome that Lily decides she's going to go find Tharin after they're separated because she wanted to see him again.
BUT WAIT
These two All-Powerful new characters need everyone to believe that Lily is dead so they order Tharin to basically lead Kalis on so no one will suspect that Lily is alive. *HEADDESK* SO THEN Lily finds Tharin after their kiss JUST AS HE IS GIVING KALIS A HUG. Aaaand she's back to being a whiny, stupid heroine with no common sense. "Oh boo hoo he is in love with Kalis" blah blah blah.
FOR LIKE THE FIRST HALF OF THE BOOK.
And then things were good for a while. Tharin finally came clean about how he isn't in love with Kalis anymore and how he is in love with her and all is right in the world. And then this stupid demon bad guy basically drugs Tharin and Kalis, makes them get in bed naked together and orchestrates it so Lily will walk in on them lying in bed together. Of course she does. SHE FREAKS OUT and starts throwing stuff and Tharin tries to explain that he was drugged and it wasn't real and LILY WAS BEING SO FREAKING STUPID.
A heroine that's TSTL? That's right.
And she pitches her stupid temper tantrum for the rest of the book, treating Tharin like shit even though that same night she walked in on Tharin & Kalis she sensed someone VERY EVIL lurking around her room. HELLO, LILY? ANYONE HOME?
And what kind of man does she honestly take Tharin for? Good god she was being childish and ridiculous and I wanted to slap her for most of this book. Tharin deserves better than a girl who is constantly jumping to the worst conclusions with him, who thinks him just a heartless player (when he has proven otherwise TIME AND TIME AGAIN). And then in the end, when all hell breaks loose and Tharin ends up losing so many people he cared about, Lily is being a stubborn bitch and instead of getting a nice Tharin & Lily payoff in the end after putting up with all this nonsense from them, she runs off to find her best friend while Tharin needed her.
And as I said, I skimmed through a lot of this book, so I don't have much else to say about the plot other than most of the side characters are amazing as they were in book 1. And I suppose I might as well just finish this trilogy in hopes that book 3 won't be such a freaking letdown.
I see you do not have any super crazies yet....I will remedy the situation...
Can I just start by saying that I have this love/hate vibe going to you right now??
Who leaves me hanging with a cliffhanger like that!!?!?!?! Are you sadistic??? Do you wonderful author sort get off on destroying me emotionally with your awesomeness???
I just don't understand...I thought we were book buddies..and then you pull this??
You amazing, devilish woman.....
FIRST OFF- Tharin and Lily.
I love them in what could be considered an unhealthy way considering they are not real.
I trust you will understand when you get a call from my therapist...these things can't be helped.
Lily and Tharin are so perfectly dysfunctional. Don't get me wrong, Im not talking about the whole
"geez why are they together when he likes anchovies and she is a pineapple kinda girl" kinda way.
(Sorry..ignore that reference...that was weird... but it just kinda came to me...)
I just mean that even though this crap fest has hit the fan, I cant even picture them not being together throughout the whole thing.
NEXTLY- That little cliffhanger that will most likely be the downfall of our book-buddyship....
I just dont know what to say...
There I was...reading and thinking "ohhh she has no idea what she is doing trying to leave him.." and then it ends.
But not only does it end..it ends on the hottest moment Tharin has ever had. I realize it might be a little psychotic to get all crazy and mushy gushy over a man saying he is going to kill the girl he loves but what can I say? Something about the big and bad thing just makes me want to melt at the feet of the attractive man who says it...demented? Probably, but I refuse to be ashamed since you brought me to this point.
But that is enough. I will not grovel at your feet or beg for you to use Godspeed when writing your next book...
*Lasts about a second before losing composure*
WHO AM I KIDDING???? I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!! I AM DYING HERE!! JUST PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY!! I CANNOT TAKE IT!!! YOU CRUEL MONSTER!!!
This wouldn't be a problem if you were just an average author instead of being some kind of writing Jedi....
Everything I stated in my review of The Binding applies here as well, with only a minor tweak in that this book is slightly stronger because it has a larger focus on the fantasy elements and the political elements and the romance and it isn't just a journey sequence with angsty insta-love thrown in.
Though to be sure, this book has a lot of dramatic twists and turns thrown in to keep things high-strung. Kalis, the ghosts of everyone's dead mom, the death of some characters, a wrench thrown into Tolan and Julia's relationship, etc... but the one thing this book does have going for it is that the main plot of "have Lily complete the seating of the willow clan's throne" is completed, which is not something that can be said of all kindle series. Sometimes even a good book will cut off like a serial without any major resolutions so, that's nice. But it does end in a very sharp cliffhanger that picks directly back up in book #3.
Overall, a casual read that feels like a fan-fiction I found online--full of typical plot elements and drama and what not that you'd expect to find in romance and fantasy. Very raw, but it's clear the author enjoyed writing it and feels passionate about it.
Side note: I'm not really into the subtle "virgin=pure and innocent" thing that's underlying in the book.
I have to say while the first book is more where we get a introduction into the mythical world..this was fully blown drama and action.
There are many twists and turns which makes you read the book on the edge..,so much new information, enemies ready to attack and we get to meet some new characters and of course u love them.
Lily is taken by Ziri- Tharin's halfbrother when she enters their land..but unlike what we think it's not a bad thing instead they do it to protect lily. But Tharin is far from Ok and tries to talk to lily and protect her from everything and everyone until her initiation as queen.
I really wanted some nice Lily-Tharin moments ..though we get some..i want more..yeah i know i am greedy..lol!
There are lot of secrets or just say hiding of information in this book from one character to other...especially with Ka and Sema..which can get on your nerves sometimes..well that may be just me ..lol!
The end was what u can say is a interesting cliff hanger and which is also what will reveal a lot of secrets and now we have to see what will happen in next book..i am already excited about it!
This book was the second in The Velesi Trilogy. A very exhausting ride of nonsense! As you can see, I will defer with many of the reviews here. Mayor spoilers ahead...So be warned! In this book, our boring heroine has been abducted by Kiri, brother to Tolan an elf-half orc. She's trapped in a house with an old lady, who apparently is a druid protecting her virtue from Tolan (elf prince) and her persona from her evil brother. Meanwhile, Tolan can't stop stalking her and attempt sneak peeks 24/7. He also invades her mind and tries to convince her that he loves her, and not his previous lover. Lilly's friend Julia, thinks she's dead along with the whole realm. All part of the plan of course... Lilly goes through training, crying, training and crying. Love histerics and so forth! Of course Julia goes through a similar process... And it just lost me! I kept looking at other stuff to avoid finishing this... The constant switch of POV was irritating, because both heros are dull and kind of dumb and naive. You might say to me..."But this is a YA" . Allow me to say, that there are many more interesting teenagers out there who have brains and personality. This is the typical poor little damsel being tossed from place to place. Brainwashed and totally reluctant to be or do anything. And Tolan... Doesn't resemble at all a century year old elf. He just seems like immature goof with pointy ears. Full of himself and totally boring! Seriously...When you read about Tolan, can you imagine he belongs to this race? Sorry...But I can't! Drama! Drama... and more drama. Lilly doesn't mature or grow in any way. Tolan keeps being an idiot. And the rest of the characters are just fillers really. The plot mainly revolves around our h/h, so it's basically not fulfilling at all. The book doesn't engage you, nor does it make you feel like you should care a damn about it. The romance for both couples is frustrating, to the point of not being worth your time...And so much DRAMA! I personally believe that if I'd give this book another chance, it would be with Julia as the only protagonist. Better background and great personality. Because of course... THIS IS ALL ABOUT SPOILED LILLY! The plot is seriously delayed by the romance and random events that do not contribute (in my opinion) to anything in the story. It stretches and bends so many times, you feel like you're going in circles and never reach the objective. The world building is mildly acceptable and the creatures in it fascinate me more, than any of the characters in this book. Excluding Kiri, who is by far the most lovely and interesting character in this sequel. I love Kiri! Sadly... to conclude, I might or not be inclined to read book 3... It just got worse. So I'm not sure. Of what I am sure, is that this was a disaster in terms of storyline and protagonists. And there is a saying where I live that goes like this "Muchos manos en un plato, hacen mucho garabato". Which means, too many hands in one plate just make a mess. And that's what this book felt like. Too many characters, too much drama, too many random events and simply too much teen hysterics. So that's my thought on this book. I bid you farewell and may your next reads be fab!

I just finished "The Drifting" and was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as "The Binding". The story takes us the world of Velesi which is described beautifully. This book focuses more on the background, the politics and the prophecy of Velesi and not as much on Tharin and Lilly's relationship. I thought I would be disappointed since they were separated for the beginning part of the book but instead I found myself enjoying the story without being too immersed in the tension like I was with the first book.
Julia and Tolon are not really featured that much but instead we get to know the cousins more plus meet some new interesting characters. There were definitely a lot of misunderstandings that could have been solved by communication but both protagonists are young and immature so it's to be expected. I felt that Lilly lost the strength she exhibited in the first book and came across as immature and childish. I hope she comes to her own in Book 3 as she is now a queen and needs to act like one! Oh-- and I really want her to tell off that Kalis girl - she was obnoxious and although I get that she lost her man to Lilly, she really needs to back up!
Overall, I was pleased with the way the author rounded out the story and am now anxiously awaiting the third book in the trilogy. I really hope it comes out soon as a year is a long time to wait!
The title "The Drifting" suits the story line well as the plot involves loads of Drifting.
When i finished "The Binding" i was so desperate to read the sequel what with the cliff-hanger it had.... but when i finally got my hands on this book, i was a little scared to read it My Thoughts:"will the sequel do it justice?" "will it have the same kind of power that The Binding captured me with?" After reading it :"HELL YES,IT DID!!!"
The Binding introduced us to all the characters and their relationship but The Drifting took them to a whole new level, Lily and Tharin were good but i craved for their oh-so-rare moments together... Kalis was introduced and i think she played the perfect role of a jealous lover. Sema and Ka made me sit on the edge of my seat all the way to the end... and the most surprising was Ziri cause i liked him too... but i missed the Tolan-Julia moments....
The world Miss Filloon created with her words is awe-inspiring.The world of Velesi is like i nothing i ever read about, very unique and every aspect as it was introduced was new and interesting to read about. There is so much to it then i can tell and you have to read it to know it....
Book #2 majorly suffered from "sequel-syndrome" whereby the two main leads: Tharin and Lily, remain apart throughout the majority of the book, with an ensuing semi-love-triangle, a myriad of misunderstandings, and a fresh batch of new characters thrown into the mix, to boot.
Still, in all its second book predictability, I did find myself laughing along, and biting my nails in eager anticipation.
However, I was a bit disappointed with Tharin and how he handled Kalis - but then again, he IS Crown Prince after all. *rolls eyes*
Either way, I enjoyed the magical blend of romance, mystery, adventure, and action as Lily finally learns of heritage, and realizes her powers. The side drama was also entertaining as well.

Favorite Quotes: "A garden tool? She called you a garden tool?" & "I just threw up in my mouth. That's what I think of that idea."
I am not a fan of b-s drama. Unfortunately, that's all this book has been. It's your typical "let's separate the two lovers and make them think they don't love each other" nonsense. I was over it before it really started. Then when there wasn't Tharin/Lily drama, we had Tolan/Julia drama. Then more Tharin/Lily bs. It got to the point about 75% of the way through that I just didn't want to read it anymore.
Seriously, this whole book was just drama, drama, drama.
I guess the point was to follow some ridiculous plan by these two people that they don't really know and Tharin just goes along with it without telling Lily about it. I mean it was awfully shady that these people didn't want her to know the plan. I mean what difference does it make when she's away and "protected"? Straight shifty but does Tharin do things based upon common sense? No. No he doesn't. Lily is once again agonizing over Kalis and instead of telling her she means nothing to him anymore, he just brushes it off like she is psychic. Plus the additional bs drama of him following some nutjob's suggestion to pretend to resume his romance with Kalis? Wtf? Why would anyone need to see that? If my fiance died, I would not want to go running into my ex-boyfriend's arms! Hello? Rebound? Also what happened to time to grieve? It was solely there to provide bs drama. Which the longer it drags on, the less I care about.
Why is it that book characters in many YA novels don't feel the need to communicate? Though on the up side it didn't last the WHOLE book. Just about half of it. Which is...progress?
On top of that I'll just get right into my rant about our new characters (two of many introduced); Ka and Sema. Maybe because I actually like our main lovers, but their holier than thou/I'm so much better than everyone attitudes were incredibly grating.
They kept going on about Lily being trained (physically, magically, etc.) but that didn't start until almost halfway through the novel. Though on the good side, it wasn't like insta-I'm a badass now training.
There were quite a few spelling errors but easy enough to bypass for the most part. It typically switched from Tharin to Lily again and was in first person which I never really enjoy.
There were quite a few twists that I didn't expect and also a few you did but I like how the author threw things I definitely wasn't expecting.
I don't know, I felt like this book just had a lot of unnecessary things. It didn't really feel needed. I think I'm just past the drama stage of my life and I just want the story and the happily ever after? I can't say I really enjoyed it all that much honestly but I still want to read more, see if it'll all work out.
Finally! Yes, that’s all I could think of when I received my review copy of this book. I had read and loved the first book in the series, The Binding, and have been waiting to get back with Cessa again.
The Drifting takes off right where The Binding was left off. Lily’s enters the world of Velesi not as a princess with Tharin, but with Ziri as her captor. Slowly we are introduced to new characters, some whose names we have heard before and some completely new. We are also made aware of a Prophecy that involves Lily. The book then revolves around the prophecy and how the characters deal with everything. I am not getting into the plot much because the summary of the book says it best.
This book has a slow start in the beginning but with a purpose. It gives you a chance to know the new characters introduced and then picks up its pace. Starting with Tharin and Lily – I often found myself wishing I had Rapunzel’s Frying pan (from Tangled movie) to hit them both on the head and get their brains working. Really, the problem with this couple is communication. They do not ever tell the other person what they are feeling and why! But this is one problem I have seen many of my friends face in their lives too, though not as much. So I guess it also helped make them more real to me. But Lily did disappoint me at a few points and hope she’ll be more like the girl I came to think of her as after reading the first book. Kalis turned out to be exactly what I had imagined her to be like from the descriptions/conversations in the first book. Ziri, Mellis and my favourite Cessa really rocked the world of Velesi in this book. I would have loved to see a bit more action from Tolan.
The world of Velesi is so beautiful. The description of its creatures and landscape made a real good impression on me. I would love to be able to go there myself – if only somebody would open the portal for me! The plot as such maintains a good rhythm and Oh My God, the cliffhanger!!! I so wish I had read this book only when I had the final book at hand. Now I have to wait for it to release and go crazy thinking about what is going to happen next.
I am usually scared of reading the sequels of the books that I have enjoyed reading because more often than not, I am disappointed by them. They either match or fail to match my expectation. Very rarely does it exceed my expectations and Ms.Filloon has certainly exceeded my expectation with her plot, writing and the book cover in the second installment.
I am certainly looking forward to the third and final installment in the series.
I'm left excited and wanting! Great job on creating a great book two of this series. The second in the series is often seen as the weakest book of a trilogy, but I think this book did a great job of proving that theory wrong. I did get frustrated with the dual pov only because I knew what the other character was missing and vise versa when they would not communicate effectively. Great job, now I need book three.
I'm not impressed. I expected more. Just more twist where there really shouldn't be any. Trying to create mystery and intrigue just to keep the readers interested. Creating sub par characters without giving them speaking parts just to kill them off. Making the characters grieve for the dead all to make more angst. It's not for me.
Closer to a 3.5. I liked the book and the characters, but the mythology behind the plot began to get a little convoluted. It was also fraught with misspelled words, misused words, typos, missing punctuation, added punctuation, etc.
Plot: The Drifting picks up where The Binding left off. Lily, who was taken by Tharin’s brother, meets her kidnapper(s). Rather than trying to cause her harm, they train her … Ziri working with her on self-defense and the other kidnapper (no spoiler!) helping her to develop her abilities. She and Tharin are reunited, albeit temporarily, and she begins to trust in his feelings for her. Meanwhile, Tharin and Tolan must continue to pretend that Lily is dead in order to keep her safe from Falsad and Harlu until her coronation. As the book progresses, Lily learns more about herself, her family members, and her role in saving Velesi.
Characters: Lily continues to maintain a great balance between emotional and physical strength. She shows how deeply she cares for others, at the same time developing her strength, so she can protect not only the people she cares about, but herself as well. Her relationship with Tharin becomes more intense as well, but she has a hard time trusting him because of the façade he is putting on to ensure others think she is dead.
While Tharin mentored Lily last time, in The Drifting, his brother Ziri begins to train with her. (No, Tharin is not happy about it, and yes, hilarity ensues in the form of his jealous tantrums.) As Lily and Ziri train together, we learn more about the rift between Ziri and Tharin and why they no longer communicate.
Tolan and Julia are back, but in this installment, they begin to experience relationship struggles. Readers are led to believe the tension is occurring because of Lily’s supposed death, but later in the book, we find the real reason why. Also returning are Mellis, Alorn, and Phoris. In The Binding, it was hard to differentiate between the three. This time, more of their personalities comes through, and we continue to appreciate each of their strengths.
Toward the end of the book, the true identities of Ka and Sema are revealed, and we actually meet Harlu, who is CREEPY to say the least.
Writing: When I wrote my review for Book 1, I said that the book was written in present tense. This book was supposed to have been written in present tense, but it switched around frequently. When I say frequently, I don’t just mean from character to character, I mean from word to word! Also, the spelling/grammatical/homophone errors are much more frequent in The Drifting. There’s probably at least one on every page. In my head, it was like “read, read – SCRATCHED RECORD – read, read – FINGERNAILS ON CHALKBOARD, etc.
The Bottom Line: I liked the book, just not as much as I liked the first one. The author was so focused on presenting the historical information behind Velesi that the plotline suffered a bit. While the story wasn’t as captivating, it was still compelling and chock full of romance, heartbreak, tragedy, humor … you name it.
Fair warning: There is somewhat of a cliffhanger. Be prepared to have The Whispering on hand.
Find this review & others @ BetweenTheLines This book actually came out a day before it was said to be released, which totally twisted my knickers!! Come on I missed out on a whole day of reading. So not acceptable, seriously miss Filloon if I didn't love your book so much me and you would be having words. So to the story I loved, loved, loved it. Seriously it had everything you could ask for. Drama, angst, laughter and love. The first half of the book was a little slow for me but I loved trying to figure out what was going on and who the bad guys really where, I was wrong every time like but we can't all have great minds. This book takes off exactly where the first one left off (glad I re-read the first one right before). Like I said there wasn't much action in the first half but we where introduced to some amazing characters that I kept trying to figure out. We got to learn more about the Velesi realm and its history. The way Velesi was described just sounded so beautiful, I could feel myself being there in the story and didn't ever want to leave. The book really picks up in the second half. There where lots more action and twice as much drama. I just wanted to slap Tharin silly sometimes, seriously has he ever met a girl before? There where some surprises, which I won't divulge to you. Even though I loved this book, Lily really grated on my nerves sometimes. She needed to stop second guessing herself and just get on with it. She wasn't the strong, independent, feisty girl from the first novel, she seemed more like the female protagonists in most YA novels. It was like once she realised she loved Tharin she forgave him for lying to her, her best friend and kissing another girl. Come on Lily where has your backbone gone? She had such promise in the first book and I feel kind of let down that she transformed into another of these drivelling idiots without a mind of her own. There where points when she redeemed herself and I felt myself internally cheering but there was just too much forgiving and not enough arse kicking from her. That being said this was still a great read and don't think I'll be able to wait a whole year for the next one. Will definitely be reading this book again. It was fabulous despite my problems with Lily.
Review also appears on my blog Okay so I've waited forever for this book to come out and I really really loved the first book. However, I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's a love hate relationship with this book that's mostly love but still part hate. Okay so let's do the love part first. I loved most of this book. The supporting characters were amazing. Julia, Cessa and Mellis were probably my favorite characters in the book. Lily stepped it up in this book as well. She still has that rebellious streak to her but she makes wise decisions( well most of the time she does.) I loved the action in this book is was written in an amazing way that had me feeling like I was out there fighting along the characters. The plot was great. There were so many twists and turns and some many shocking reveals that I was gasping for most of the reading. Tharin needs his own paragraph. Some of the things he did were really stupid. I'm talking like someone slap this guy with a frying pan stupid.Like I get it he had good intentions but the way about executing it was really stupid and I just wanted to slap him sometimes. Other than that he was great. I loved how protective he was of Lily and he was willing to bend a little on her part. He had a great relationship with his cousins and brother. However when it came to Kalis he was an idiot. Kalis... boy don't even get me started on her. I don't know what she's panning and if she is even planning anything maybe she isn't, I don't know but she needs to step the hell away from Thorin. She kept on causing issues between Lily and Thorin and I just want them to be together and make up and be happy. Now on to the few things I didn't like. A lot of the conflict in this book especially between Thorin and Lily was caused by misunderstanding. I mean really can these two communicate and avoid all the drama? Like I just wanted to reach in and shake the characters at times and be like" Girl snap out of it and go talk to him!!!" yeah some parts in this book brought my violent side out. However, in the end this was a great sequel( even if it has an ending that makes me want to tear my hair out.) Definitely go and pick up this book. And if you didn't read the drifting then get your butts online and get it ASAP.
The Drifting picks up exactly where the first book in the series, The Binding, ended. Lily is scared, she is in a new place with strange people she doesn't know. The one person who should be helping her, Tharin is extremely wishy-washy this entire book. Just as with the first book, this one also switches back and forth between the perspectives of Lily and Tharin. Everytime Tharin's turn would happen I would instantly think, "Okay, how are you going to make me mad now?" I mean, it was just one thing after another.
Not only did Tharin dig a hole for himself, he kept on digging.....deeper......and deeper. I really like Tharin, but come on your the future king, man up! It was not only me that felt this way, Lily had exactly no idea what was going on with him, among other things. She is a busy girl! Being at the center of a prophecy that could save the world and prevent war is certainly no cake walk! And on top of that she has to deal with some moody, wishy-wasy elf!
Besides Tharin, being Tharin, the world that L. Filloon created is expanded upon even more in this second installment. She is extremely talented! She described a world filled with beautiful trees, and a LOT of rain. There is no doubt in my mind that Velesi would be beautiful.
Some Good Quotes:
"However, he was right about one thing. You are stunning, but then again, you are my twin."
"What a spoiled and self-entitled bitch. I have had to deal with her type all my life, both Julia and me. Always looking down their noses at me, and my height had nothing to do with it."
"Yes, but you must remember that you hold your own destiny. Fate can whisper in your ear what road you should take, but it is up to you to make that decision."
I was so ready to return to the Velesi Trilogy and bought this book as soon as it came out. I found myself more frustrated with Lily and Tharen in this book than in the previous one.
There is so much intrigue in this book that you really don't know who is on who's side and what their ultimate goal is. I enjoyed all the subterfuge with all the political workings of the throne and elf world, but was frustrated with Lily and Tharen on their relationship.
Tharen acting very stereotypical male in the way he is blinded by a person that no one else in his world is blind to and he's not communicating with Lily. Lily, who is too self deprecating and immature, most of the time. I loved it when she got mad, I just wished she would have confronted Tharen and forced a little dialogue. I would like to see Lily come into her own in the next book, right now she is drifting along and everyone involved has a different plan and goal without even knowing what is going on around her.
I was sad by the loss of friends and allies in this book, but am looking forward to the next book. Hopefully some of the questions will be answered and Lily, Tharen and company will realize that they need everyone on the same page to try and save the elf world and themselves.
Gotta say, when it takes me less than 12 hours to read a book, and 2 days to read the first 2 books on this series, you can tell I didn't really put it down at all. Now time for some sleep before I have to go to work. All I gotta say, read the book... Or better yet, wait till July when book 3 comes out, and then start the series, that way you aren't stuck with a cliff hanger yet again! Great series!!!

So this wasn't my favorite book of the series, but it was needed. There was a lot of training, physical and mental. It starts off where the first book left off, with Lily getting kidnapped. Tharin desperately searches for her, while trying to protect his future kingdom, and trying to decide if the intentions of Lily's kidnappers are good or evil. Poor Julia believing Lily to be dead, pulls away from the elf she has come to love while grieving for Lily. Once again there are so many twists and turns in the book that we don't know who is good, who is evil, and who is who. It again ends at an abrupt ending point where you I nearly wanted to die from anticipation to start the third and final book. So you most definitely need to read the series!
When Lily crosses into Velesi she is separated from the group captured by Ziri a half brother to Tolan and Tharin. The only way to fulfill the prophecy is to keep Lily safe no matter what. This includes deceiving many people into believing the Velesi Princess Lily has died.
Lily is unaware that Tharin has fallen in love with Lily. That everything he does for the most part is an act to protect his love. Lily also learns the fate of her brother Lucas and only wants his body freed from where he is.
She desperately wants to go home and not be the future Queen. Home where things are normal and elves aren't part of the equation. Time and again she finds herself being confused by the relationship between herself and her Prince Tharin and whether he loves her.
This book was incredible and is as good as The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa anyone who loves that series will find them being pulled into the Velesi Realm and not want to leave. A great story, full of adventure, romance, suspense.
Having assumed that I had indeed read this book I went ahead and read The Whispering next so I had them out of order. I wanted to read Book 2 to really flesh out the scenes I missed and get a better understanding of the story. I had plenty of "lightbulb" moments where things clicked because of this mistake and yet it was still an enjoyable read. Lily really starts to stand up for herself in this book although her interactions with Tharin were abit "wishy washy" to say the least. He needed a good swift kick up the backside and to get his priorities right concerning his love life. As for Kalis, well talk about a lover spurned and she was a bitch to Lily but if Tharin had earned Lily's trust it all could have been avoided though the story would be a lot shorter. Julia and Tolan seemed to be having problems too and it illustrates how communication and trust are so important in any relationship. While it was not my favourite book in this series it sets us up nicely for the third instalment and kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.
I am into the whole teen book, bad romance thing and I love all the books I have been reading. Including this one. I am pulling out my hair waiting for this she-devil author to write the next one. I love all of the character s. I have read these books to many times to have it be healthy
LILY- I love her she has a huge heart and is awesome for that but I do wish she was a little bit mor bad ass and maybe not as helpless as she is I wish Ziri and Alorn taught her more but i am being selfish about this she does have the determination
Tharin- god why Tharin do I melt every time your mentioned
Julia and Tolan- love them but julia why would you push this great guy away WHYYYYYY WHYYYY. It just proves that every thing is so perfectly wrong with this book
My all time favorite is Mellis you will just has to read the books to find out why
I love this book good read you people should love the charters just has much as I do.
i enjoyed this book with the cliff hanger at the end of the last book i just had to read this one it more of the same action our never ending love triangle and the quarals of the main charecter freinds. There are sad parts and things that will make you laugh and times when you just want to scream at the chatecters to move or just do something anything and it can be a bit fustrating but i love the way the story is unfolding and though i know the serise will have a happy ending i cant wait to see what action will unfold before hand but i will just have to wait untill summer when the next one comes out will is going to anoy me as i want to know what happen now right this week as i have come to know these charecter and just i think i have worked out how they will react to a situation they dont do it that way and keep me guessing. cant wait for the next instalment!
