God has called Christians to overcome the world and drive back the forces of evil and darkness at work within it. Spiritual warfare isn't just casting out demons; it's Spirit-controlled thinking and attitudes. Dean delivers a no-nonsense, both-feet-planted-on-the-ground approach to the unseen world.

An interesting book with some practical insights. However, it is serious need of an editor and some stronger theological support.
Like another reviewer said, the text is quite repetitive. A lot of the information in the book is not strictly discussing spiritual warfare, but includes tangents onto other topics (spiritual discipline, for example). This results in a scattered flow to the text, with no clear outline or story arch to the book.
Many of Sherman's claims about good and evil seem to have a basis in his own experience, though he does offer a little bit of scriptural support. However, the scripture used is not extensive, and there is even less historical/theological support for what he writes.
I do, however, appreciate that he was generally reasonable in his views (for example, he was careful not to blame every sickness or natural disaster on spiritual warfare), and I found the anecdotes of his own personal experiences with spiritual warfare interesting. Unfortunately there were only 3 or 4 of these short stories in the whole book.
While I enjoyed a lot of the content of this book, I found the writing irritating. Sherman is very repetitive and sometimes uses the same phrases 10-20 times in a chapter. This becomes tedious quickly.
Also I had an issue that all his metaphors were geared around men--sports metaphors mean absolutely nothing to me. A more gender neutral metaphor would have been appreciated.
I think I learned quite a bit from the book but I found myself wishing it was written by someone else.
This was a really insightful book! I found it to be full of truths, but I can't help but agree with others. The phrasing felt quite repetitive. I was really encouraged to pray, and it's helpful in the broad sense of knowing the enemy, but I never found any hashed out arguments or proofs.
It's a pretty quick read (for me) and the encouragement is there, but the repetitiveness is quite obvious.
Thought it was great! Very insightful into the spiritual realm. As someone who has little knowledge of spiritual warfare, I found it very eye opening and interesting. Not sure I agree with everything, but biblically sound and scriptural based for the most part. Got me excited for my summer overseas!
It says many great things about the spiritual battles that go on around us and in us. He does a good job explaining this topic using scriptures, and he answered a lot of the questions that I had before reading it. Every Christian needs to know about this topic, and I recommend this book if you are looking for one. Sometimes it seems repetitive, but the truths in between are worth reading.
the battle between satan and all children of God. we should win the battle, we should take our place and wave the banner. crush the devil and resist him. coz we were designed to live in victory each day.
I learned so much in this book. I also re-learned things I was taught when I was a new Christian. It's good to re-visit valuable lessons. I like how the book ends: All Christians are spiritual warriors...walk consistently and victoriously through life with Christ by your side. Sounds good to me!
I read this book with one of the patients at the hospital I work at. It was very good for discussion. I liked the first part better than the latter parts. Dean Sherman does take scripture out of context several times which bothered me. I think this book is best read in company.
Quite simply the best book out there on the subject. Sherman mentored countless Youth With A Mission (YWAM) missionaries over the years. Solid, practical, Biblically sound advice from a seasoned Christian veteran of the unseen battle....
So challenging! And a reminder that it takes a life of prayer to overcome all circumstances we face. At the end we know that The Lord is with us, here and now -always!
Pretty good read on a subject that's kind of socially taboo - especially for non-believers. I really enjoyed Chapter 9 which covers the whole "why does God allow evil" topic. Recommended read.
