About the author

Jürgen Habermas is a German sociologist and philosopher in the tradition of critical theory and American pragmatism. He is perhaps best known for his work on the concept of the public sphere, the topic of his first book entitled The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere. His work focuses on the foundations of social theory and epistemology, the analysis of advanced capitalistic societies and democracy, the rule of law in a critical social-evolutionary context, and contemporary politics—particularly German politics. Habermas's theoretical system is devoted to revealing the possibility of reason, emancipation, and rational-critical communication latent in modern institutions and in the human capacity to deliberate and pursue rational interests.

Hmm was haben wir den gelernt…? Etwas Neues? Nein. Etwas Durchbrechendes? Nein! Etwas typisch Habermatisches? Jein. Etwas typisch Soziologisches? Jein. Komplett Utopisches? Ja!
Es tut mit leid, Herr Habermas. Ich respektiere Sie, aber ich habe Sie nicht gern. Sie sind mir nicht nur unsympathisch, Sie sind für mich auf ein Musterbeispiel für deutschsprachige soziologische Schreibweise, die ich nicht mag und zu hochgestochen finde. Und dazu nochmal meine erste Frage: was haben wir von diesem Essay gelernt? Vielleicht die Bestätigung, dass manche Bücher nur aus dem Grund veröffentlicht werden, weil der Autor Habermas heißt.

Ο Γιούργκεν Χάμπερμας είναι ένας ένθερμος υποστηρικτής της ευρωπαϊκής προοπτικής των λαών της ηπείρου μας. Πιστεύει ότι οι λαοί μπορούν να έχουν ένα κοινό μέλλον και μάλιστα ο μόνος τρόπος να προοδεύσουν είναι να ενώσουν τις τύχες τους. Κατακρίνει τους ευρωσκεπτικιστές και τις δειλές κυβερνήσεις των ισχυρών κρατών.

Ένα πολύ καλό βιβλίο, με μόνο μειονέκτημα τη στρυφνή, τεχνική γλώσσα που χρησιμοποιεί ο συγγραφέας.

My first book - shame on me - by one of the most famous contemporary philosophers, Jürgen Habermas, turned out to be much more interesting than I had initially anticipated. I don’t know why, but I’ve always been a little reluctant to read Habermas. That won’t happen again. Now that I know he’s such a strong critic of the neoliberal sickness of the world is suffering from, this certainly isn’t the last book I‘ve read by him.

Ein sehr interessantes Plädoyer für ein nicht nur wirtschaftlich desoletes, sondern auch sozial resigniertes Europa, das jedoch anspornt den Status Quo der Kleinstäaterei für die Schaffung einer europäischen Identität zu revidieren.
