Kelwin Sayeed is a soldier without a war. The retired War Commander’s latest and most ambitious hobby, the solar flyer Artemis, was supposed to prove him worthy of the famously reclusive Solar Sailors. Instead a catastrophic computer failure has him at the mercy of the most hazardous road of all: Icaria.
Confident he won’t be left to die in the golden spray, he waits for another sailor to come along. One that’s born and bred to the roads, with skin wizened like beaten gold. What he gets is a woman whose voice does things to his body that should be illegal. Whose golden-tinted skin sparks erotic fantasies.
The bride who ran from him a decade ago…
Product Warnings Contains a self re-invented woman with a low tolerance for B.S. and a tendency to snark, a hot former soldier with a brutal approach to protecting what’s his, and a solar-kissed romance that spans years.
Mina Carter is a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of romance in many genres. She lives in the UK with her husband, daughter, a puppy who pays no attention to her whatsoever, and a bossy cat.
Okay, I'm a sucker for second chance romances. Kelwin was all focused determination and sexy smolder while Rhys/Nerys was determined to have the wedding night she never got the first time around. That part probably would have gone better if she'd told him who she was on the outset, but live and learn. Right, Rhys?
Anywho. I'm not normally a big fan of assumptions and misunderstandings tearing a couple apart, but given Rhys's upbringing and her young age when everything went down, I can understand this one. Plus, her dad was kinda a pro at manipulating people, so a sheltered young woman wouldn't have much of a chance of standing up against him. Still, she managed to get away, even if she didn't get the dream husband she thought she was getting. On the other hand, living your life on the run and always watching your back gets old after a while.
A neat world, a dangerous calling, and a couple who are meant to cross paths no matter what or who tries to keep them apart. I liked it.
3.5 stars Solar Storm pretty cool short read from one of my favorite authors Mina Carter. On the road and on the run always looking over your shoulder, is a pretty jacked up life to live. Afraid of getting too close or staying too long.
Because she has a pycho controlling donkey of a father, she leaves and does a whole 360 on herself. Looks personality, she isn't the woman she used to be. A change so drastic that her ex doesn't even know her, after she tries to accidentally use him for a speed bump.
I've found through our time if you're meant to be you will be, the walls you put up, the fences you erect will only slow you down. Grab this super cool read and see if the past is worth rekindling for both. Read and Reviewed voluntarily. Enjoy
While I like the idea of a runaway bride coming across the husband she fled from years ago due to some shady shenanigans from her criminally minded father, I didn't care much for the individual characters. She's your classic helpless and fragile supposed badass and he's a super alpha ex-soldier with fancy body modifications/enhancements (but no one cares about any of that besides the resulting high sex drive. Really - thats basically all we're told.)
I'll admit, I'm not usually one for second chance romance type stories... but Nerys in particular has grown up, and learned a bit since the day everything could have turned into a fairy tale happily ever after, and instead everything went all too wrong.
Kelwin is a man looking for a mission. The first time he met Nerys he thought he found purpose, and a future, in the idea of becoming a husband... but as noted above, nothing went right back then. This time, when they meet, and everything goes wrong, instead of being torn apart, and (be it on purpose or accidentally) running from one another, in those darkest moments, they turn towards one another, rely on one another, and for a brief shining moment, look as though they may be figuring out that relationships are not just about the bright shiny happy moments, but there is work to be done if you want to make it through the lumps and bumps of life.
The poor little rich girl, and the soldier without a cause are found 10 years after the story others might have told, this is not the soap opera story of the naive young girl and the war hero, and that was what kept me turning the pages. Hoping they could heal from the wounds time, and love, had inflicted.
What and exciting and highly readable story! I loved the story line. It was paced very steadily and was impossible to put down. The character of Rhyss was engaging ad independent. Her backstory was interesting and kept me rooting for her to keep on being her own hero. The love element was unexpected but once it was there, it was hard to ignore. The story had many exciting scenes and the bloody deaths only made it more difficult to put down. I read this one straight through, and loved every digital page of it. I would highly recommend that you read this book! You really can't go wrong with a Mina Carter book, I have never read one of hers that did not affect me the same way.
This was a slow move for me. I wanted to be really into it because I always love Mina Carter, but it took a bit. Once the realization came to light, I really enjoyed it. Kelwin was hilarious. It was funny watching him try to put together how he knew Rys. I especially loved his excitement. Nerys was a strong character. Smart too. Actually, they both were for me. I'm not sure why the beginning was so slow for me, but once I was able to focus, I really enjoyed the story. If you're looking for a quick read, this is a good one.
A quick read. The heroine Rhys/Nerys tan from her abusive and controlling father and has been hiding for 10 years. She is now a cargo pilot and runs across a stranded ship on a dangerous solar road and rescues him. She recognizes him immediately as her ex husband, but she’s changed everything about herself so he doesn’t know who she is. The heat between the two is hot. I wish the story was longer so we could learn more about her H/h’s romance, but it was a satisfying and fun read.
Solar Storm by Mina Carter is a sexy, second-chance sci-fi romance with plenty of twists and turns for such a short read. Ms. Carter is one of my fav go-to authors and while I enjoyed the storyline and the characters of Solar Storm, I just felt the read was lacking in consideration of all that was going on plot-wise and the time-frame it covered.

Another fun and enjoyable story from Ms. Carter. I liked both main characters and their story. Wish it had been longer but that is often the case with these books. Solar Storm is a good one-shot story with a HEA end and fed my need for this author while waiting for her next Zodiac Cyborg and Lathar stories. March can't get here soon enough.
This was a quick, sexy read. I liked Nerys and Kelwin. The story had more depth than I was actually expecting. I wish it had been a little longer to explore the relationship between the H/h more.
A story about 2nd chances. Kelvin and Nerys have to figure out what happened to them in the past in order to move forward. I really liked the way the story played out. Sweet!
I found this one falling a bit short of the usual that Mina Carter gets out. Great idea, great characters, just not developed enough. As short stories go, this was good, it just felt rushed.
First impression: another fabulous cover from artist Kanaxa. Sometimes you really can and should judge a book by its cover. The combination of Mina Carter's remarkable writing and Kanaxa's top-notch artistry makes a powerful one-two punch. It's like they have the ability to reach into my brain and pluck out the secrets to what makes me spend copious money on books . . .
Okay, the longer I sit with that sentence the odder it it feels, so let's move on!
My reaction: holy crap, this is an awesome story. I can't believe there's a whole world of Mina Carter books out there, and I'm just now twigging to it. I thought Perfect Mate was wildly entertaining, but Solar Storm totally outshines it.
Carter's writing is unquestionably brilliant. So precise, so sharp and gripping. The concept behind this story--traveling through space by sailing along solar currents--would create a great sense of adventure regardless, but Carter's impressive imagery makes this story come alive. And once you're hooked, prepare to be absorbed. The setup, the details laid out--terminology, descriptions, histories--create wonderful depth and immersion.
The story starts off strong and confident, an instant attention getter. And despite the fact that this isn't a long book, there's plenty of action and, well, action to keep you satisfied. Carter doesn't waste a single word on fluff or filler--just concentrated, full-throttled fun.
And the really good news . . . This is one incredibly sexy book. Kel is the stuff of wet dreams--a badass super-soldier who's hardwired to want his sex hot, hard, and often. His chemistry with take-charge, no-hesitation Rhys is palpably thrilling. There's nothing dull or tepid about these two, that's for sure. Hell, this whole book is one hot number.
Rhys fled her past and reinvented herself, trying hard to forget the men who wronged her--her father, her husband. But fate has a way of catching up with a woman.
I really enjoyed this story and read it quickly. The writing was strong and the plot interesting. The worldbuilding and tech were deep and interesting. The tech was supposed to echo sea ships and it did, at times confusing me as to what was happening, but still the imagery was wonderful.
Rhys was strong and independent, for the most part. Ms. Carter did an excellent job of making Kel really human, despite being a modified super soldier.
The romance was good and satisfying for the most part. The resolution was satisfying and the sex scenes tasteful and sensual.
The only negative for me was near the end. The very end did redeem this a bit, but not completely for me.
Overall, I enjoyed the story for the plot, the world, the buildup and for the most part, the characters.
I will definitely read another story by this author.
An enjoyable short read that has a good storyline and interesting characters. Rhys/Nerys had been treated badly by her father and had a lot of baggage to deal with. Married to Kelwin, then shown a doctored video of her husband with other women on her wedding night, she takes off. Rhys goes on the run with a new name and face, hiding from her father for 10 years as a cargo operator. Rhys/Nerys ends up saving her ex husband but he doesn't recognise her, this triggers her to remember and she realises he had been set up by her father to ruin their marriage so he could sell her again. Poor Kelwin, drugged, robbed and left for dead on his wedding night, he believed Rhys was behind it with her father. Falling in love with Nerys was easy, finding she is his runaway bride Rhys causes him to behave badly and walk away for months. My only gripe is I am sure Kelwin was a player and has been with loads of woman over the last 10 years. Would love this to have been longer but did enjoy the outcome with the father.

3 pages in and i almost stopped reading. cheating heroes, no go. but, then after skimming half a dozen pages, apparently his pre-wedding drinks were spiked, and that's why he had a go-around with half a dozen (or a dozen) lap dancers (it was only 3!). orchestrated by the h's father. wonderful. too much angst... not what i was in the mood for.
it's not too bad. if this is the type you prefer. maybe if i read it again, i will up the stars. not justnow. ______________________________________
okay, so all that angst gets resolved. woohoo. i'd up the rating by half a star, if i could. but i still don't feel like giving it a 3. maybe i'll compensate on some other book by the author.
oh, and the drugs from daddy-in-law spiking his drink--- led to 3 day vacation in the hospital. our H almost didn't make it...
This is a good sci-fi romance. I liked the setting on a ship that somehow soared along a road in space, powered by solar winds. The hero is a retired enhanced soldier. The heroine is the daughter of a horrible business-man. There is an attack by a monster and attempted kidnapping, there is even a rescue of someone whose ship went off the road. I enjoyed it.
She running away and hiding from her father and her past when her past she s saves and when she docks her father turns up. Her past helps but goes. Meets is left alone. Again. Will her past come back your have to read but I ate it up quick with it being a short book.
