When Joe Delahunty falls from grace he lands with a thud – all gleefully recorded by Britain’s rapacious tabloids. And so when he heads for family in New York and finds his sanctuary rudely disturbed he instantly regrets the idle enquiries he’d been making into an old fraud uncovered on his travels.

As two giants of the global energy business deploy deadly forces to close down his investigations New York’s Russian mob finds itself pitted against the city’s mafia – with Joe in the middle.

Outgunned and with few friends, a pretty young PR executive, Anna Heuston, comes to his aid, casting the light of media enquiry on his foes in the hope that they’ll call off the dogs. But with the bodies piling up, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not it will work.

Tom Paver is from the English seaport of Liverpool, the fabric of which is woven through his novels. It's like Boston, shaped by its Irish community, and it gave the world The Beatles and the Titanic. Such creativity and tragedy encapsulate the city perfectly.

Tom has enjoyed an award-winning career in the media industries and divides his week between London and Liverpool. He's a half-decent fly fisherman, has trekked most of the way across the Spanish Pyrenees and is partial to a good Ribero del Duero.

Tom is a triplet, although the other two are at pains to point out that they do not earn a living from murder. You can find out more about him at tompaver.com

Put Right (Redemption #1) by Tom Paver is a novel about an Irish priest, Joe Delahunty, who finds the holy life doesn't suit him much. After being fired and the British tabloids poking fun, Joe decides to go and visit family in New York. While in New York, Joe finds a suspicious letter written by Theresa Madden, back in 1938, to her son, Sean. The letter explains how she was cheated by a man, and Theresa wants the wrong to be put right. How can a cheating ex-priest help?

Joe shares the mysterious letter with his cousin's wife. She is a former librarian and quite handy at researching. From there the pair place a call to a Ms. Fabrini who is a principle at an inner city school. Things start to get crazy when threats are made. With the help of a lawyer and a PR lady, the group starts to investigate the man behind the threats and the authenticity of the letter. Oh, it gets crazier.

I enjoyed the story. The was a lot going on, but there is a brief explanation of each new character being introduced. So don't worry about getting confused.

There's lots of interesting bits to string you along. It reminded of me a few novels I've read mashed into one. There is historical romance, crime, religious, mystery elements which appeal to many genre lovers.

The writing is good too. I think the book appeals to a wide audience since it incorporates so many elements. It is rather detailed, but the book was about 200 pages. I prefer books to be about that length. The story reminded of a John Grisham novel.

I can't wait to see what's coming next. I am not sure how it fits into a series as the book is a great stand along novel. But I can't wait to see!
