One boy… One girl… One 1500-year-old soul hell bent on coming between them… permanently.

The lure of having it all is strong, and when 17-year-old Seth is given the opportunity, how can he say no? And why should he? The way he saw it, he had everything to gain. But when he unknowingly invites another soul to share his body, Seth discovers that not all power is good – especially when it was never his to wield. And when the soul reveals its true intentions, will Seth have the strength to fight it or would death be less painful?

But love is a powerful force, and despite everything, Dani knows that the boy she fell in love with is hiding somewhere behind the darkness in his eyes, and she’s not about to give up so easily.

Enter the most unlikely ally Dani will ever know – dark, misfit, and totally misunderstood Alyx, who has her own secrets she’d rather no one know about.

Time is running out and Seth is quickly losing control. Dani must rely on the truth in her heart – and Alyx - to pull the dark force out of Seth. But will the power of love and faith be enough to conquer evil? Or is it too late for both of them?

This is one of the best YA paranormal novels I've read recently. The premise is original: seventeen-year-old Seth wants better lives for his father and his girlfriend, and ends up inadvertently inviting a soul to share his body.
You sympathize with Seth right off the bat: his motivation is genuine concern for his loved ones. Dani, his girlfriend, is sweet and smart. When the point of view changes in the second part of the book, the reader already knows Dani and what she stands for, and the switch feels natural.
At the beginning of each chapter, the reader learns more about the soul that inhabited Seth's body. This parallel story would merit its own book.
You have to love the turns of phrase, the witty banter, and the precise and beautiful descriptions of magic. The gripping plot moves fast. The secondary characters, Alyx, Justin, and Dirk, are fleshed out and memorable.
This is above all a tale of two different types of love: one healthy and inspiring; the other, obsessive and destructive. Both are intense though.
Souled is a masterfully written novel, recommended for teens and adults.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of Souled and I loved it from the beginning. The descriptions and writing are clever, and some of them from the very first chapters are still with me. I also loved how even though it's YA, the story didn't contain all the drama I'm finding more and more prevalent in YA books. Yeah, there's the mean kid in school, but the interactions and the tension between the characters felt real, and not like an over-dramatized soap opera. The story was paced really well, and I felt for Seth as he slowly weakened against the power of the dark soul inside of him. Then the action and suspense ramped up until the very end. I would recommend this book to adults because it's a great story without the teenage angst you might find annoying.

This was a fun and exciting read as it brings to question just how much of a doubled-edged sword that love can somehow be in an unexpected situation. For Seth, he only wanted to make things better without knowing the ancient paranormal madness that would come to threaten all that he loved and cared about. For the YA Readers, this story will definitely grab your attention and hold on tight from beginning to the end. Kudos to Author Diana Murdock for writing such an entertaining tale. I will be looking for more.

This book isn't typically the type that I pick up, BUT I couldn't put it down! The author does an amazing job characterizing Seth and Dani, and as a reader, you're rooting for them from the very beginning.
Without giving too much away...
By the end, I couldn't 'click' the pages fast enough. Gripping and intense.
A YA read, but I recommend for all.
Pick this one up when it's released, you'll be glad you did.

When I read the book synopsis, I was interested. The idea behind the book was appealing because it didn't seem like an overdone rehashed story - something that I've been encountering a little more lately with some of the books I've been reading. So I was pleasantly surprised when I picked this one up. The story was genuinely what it appeared to be and the book synopsis really is an accurate description of it. So another summary here isn't necessary. After all, how many ways can you say... Boy buys soul. Boy discovers soul is not what he thinks it is. Trouble and danger ensue...?

Although the idea is simple and straight forward, there is more to the story than that. It is very much about the characters and their relationships. In fact, the characters are the real focus of the story - the plot, not so much.

The one thing I wasn't immediately crazy about when I started to read was the writing style - a little more common in the YA genre these days is the first person perspective. However, the author shakes that up when she starts changing whom the perspective belongs to. It worked well here, particularly with building the characters. For the most part it was a good thing, but I did find it a little annoying when some of the characters were repetitive in their thinking. And it did bother me that the main character Seth was so slow to figure out what was going on. With regard to his character, it was a little too stereotypical dumb jock I thought. But each reader will have their own opinion on that.

Overall, I think it was an enjoyable read that would appeal to many YA readers - particularly those craving an angsty, burdened with danger romance. Four stars.

Seth ... Seth what have you done? I think he just wanted to make things better. Instead well.. All hell happens!

I enjoyed this book. It was dark and light and I think brought together with a great balance. We have soul possession..:With a twist! I actually liked the lost soul..or felt compassion at one point. Do not judge me! Read the book and see if you agree.

The story is set in Idaho. Who knew crazy break...s out in Idaho! Power and control all in the name of love. Seth and Dani tell the story from different perspectives. I liked it was not an insta-love, cannot be without you love story. You did have a growth in their relationship. That is missing in some books. It was not overdone but a little peek. Seth wants to give everything to Dani, but at what cost? Is the power worth it? If you don't control it? Fight or be defeated? Read and see what choices Seth has to make. I enjoyed the rest of the characters too. Alyx and Justin. I think they could have a book. I would like to read that too. I would imagine we will see that happen from this author. The paranormal aspects of book were great. I like the characters and how the story unfolded. Looking forward to next book. I enjoyed the writing style and the words drew me in. I enjoyed the chapter beginnings too. It was another story within, we learned about the soul. Again don't judge! I found it added to the book.

Overall really enjoyable and I would say read it. Looking forward to the next one Diana Murdock!!

I was gifted this book for a fair and honest review.

Goodreads Summary:
"Power and Control…

What 17-year-old boy wouldn’t be tempted by the promise of power and control - no matter what form that promise came in?

Seth knew exactly what he would do with power and control. He’d be well on his way to a wrestling scholarship, his dad could stop working so hard to make ends meet, and he’d forever have the heart of his girlfriend, Sandpoint High’s most beautiful girl.

For Seth, the temptation was much too strong to resist. And why should he? The way he saw it, he had everything to gain.

But when he unknowingly invites another soul to share his body, Seth discovers that not all power is good – especially when it was never his to wield. And when the soul reveals its true intentions, will Seth have the strength to fight it or would death be less painful?"

I really liked this book! It was different than any book I've ever read, I can say that for SURE. It made me go through emotions I didn't even know I could feel, which was interesting. The plot was solid, the writing style was nice, I liked most of the characters. Hey, what more can you ask for? :)

Quite possibly the best YA I've read in a long time. I loved the change in POV from Seth, who is experiencing the worst demon possession a teenager could have, to his girlfriend Dani at the half-way point. We start out knowing, at least in part, who the demon is and how he's manipulating his host and then suddenly it's all taken away in the shift from Seth to Dani, which leaves us wondering exactly what the demon's fully realized plan would be. It was like knowing there was a ticking bomb somewhere in the building and knowing it would explode in a very short time, but having no idea where it was. Loved it.

Souled is a YA Paranormal, with romance. I honestly never thought I'd enjoy a YA or a paranormal story, but I loved this one on both counts! The main character was so well developed, I wished he were my own son. He was a typical teenage boy with his heart in the right place. The paranormal aspects were so believable. As I reached the middle of the book, I had thoughts on how it might end, but, happily, I was wrong! This was an enjoyable read for me, at 59 yrs old. Teenagers will find just enough romance and suspense to keep them reading to the very satisfying end.Don't miss this one!

This was a fast read. I couldn't put it down and when I have finished, I kept thumbing through the pages to re-read some of the scenes again. This author's voice is wonderful, and her characterization is close to perfect. I have cheered for the characters all the way through, and not only for the protagonists, but also for the secondary ones.

I have read before another book by Ms. Murdock, "Again", which I liked a lot, so my expectations for Souled were already pretty high. The author did not disappoint me, and I will be impatiently waiting for her next novel.

Diana Murdock's new e-book, "Souled", has an unusual and fascinating premise as well as an inspiring high school romance. But since I don't want to give the plot away, I'll say is... beware of on-line shopping. Murdock has done a great job at making high school life in a small town come alive, especially the sports scenes. I highly recommend "Souled" to both young and older adults.

This is one those books that held me in place for hours, I really felt for the characters and the situation that Seth got himself into innocently enough but none the less he became possessed by a powerful demon. This read had the thrills and chills in spades!
The love the characters had for each other was what brought them
through the storm.

I really did enjoy this book thoroughly:)

Seth is captivated by an online ad on eSouled, which offers power and control. Unknowingly, he offers another soul into his body that gives him magical powers and control. Once Seth finds out what the soul really wants, he does everything to make it stop, but it isn’t easy. The soul—Maksim—is there on a mission and now he will make Seth fall through with is will.

His girlfriend, Dani, must find a way to save the boy she loves; she must take risks in order to regain their relationship, and most importantly, to save Seth’s life. With the help of some friends, together, they go on a remarkable adventure to find out what this particular soul is, what it really wants, and how to get rid of it. Once they find out Maskim's true intentions, they must fight together to save Seth’s humanity, but it might be too late.

The story itself is well-written with an unforgettable plot that will leave you wanting more! I fell in love with the story from the very beginning and couldn't put it down. The characters are amazingly well-developed and likeable—they have their own unique agenda that stands out from the norm. I just love them all, even Maksim, who is the poltergeist in this story.

Seth is the first POV in this story and he is easily likeable. All he wants is for everything to be normal and to give more to the people he loves most in his life.

Dani, Seth’s girlfriend, is another POV in this story. She is smart, kind hearted, and loves animals but she also stands up for what’s right, and not afraid to kick some soul butt! I was in awe of her courage and commitment to save Seth.

Alyx was my most favorite character. She is a Goth girl, who ‘knows’ something is wrong with Seth. Her character was funny and unpredictable. She was quick to help Dani in her adventure, but there is something about her that lies underneath, and I hoping to hear more about her.

The plot provides twist and turns that will keep you on the edge. Once you start on the first page, it is hard to stop—which makes this story fast and exciting to read. We’re left with a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Overall, we experience love, courage, commitment, suspense, and action. I am a fan of YA and I must say that this book hit the main points. I would definitely recommend this book for young readers and adults that would love to read this amazing story—believe me, you won’t regret it.

Diana is a remarkable author and I love her work. It is so easy to get into her books because they are well written and captivating at the same time! I’m sure you’ll love her also. Her other book Again is out now, which is an adult novel about reincarnation—you can read my review here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/119423021

Scalp tingling suspense within.... Diana Murdock could steal that for her cover, if she likes.
Last time I read a good YA book was an Indiana Jones series I read in my late teens. Well, now I'm a 37-year-old completely drawn inside the world of Sandpoint, Idaho. I can't wait for the official copies to be ready and on Amazon for sale. I have a niece's birthday coming up and I believe this to be the perfect gift for a new 15-year-old.
So, let's outline why I like it:
The characters are real and engaging. You see the dynamic in this group of teenagers very much like any high school scene. Some of it you may be nodding to yourself for having experienced it firsthand.
The paranormal action was intense. It was reminiscent of Star Wars, but a little scary like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Strangely I even found myself feeling empathy for the lost soul at one point in the book.
And the flow of the book was amazing. What with the interruptions of working full-time and taking care of twin 5-year-olds, I managed to finish this book in a little over a 24-hour period. Well, a part of that could have been the intensity toward the end.
Great book! I hope there is a sequel. Ok, I’m really hoping for more than one sequel…more than a trilogy. ~hint, hint~

Seventeen year old Seth is in a quandary over what to get his girlfriend for her birthday. While surfing the Web for just the right thing, he comes upon one of those annoying ads at the border of the screen for a soul in an online auction. And of course, being a seventeen year old male, he buys it for a dollar.
At first, aside from some pesky migraine like headaches and stomach cramps, he is happy with his purchase as he gains charisma, strength and insight into people's thoughts. But he quickly comes to see that what he invited into his body is not some benevolent angel, but the soul of an evil sorcerer bent on killing his girlfriend. And so the fight is on.
I see Souled as a modern fable with "Be careful what you wish for" as it's message. The story follows a typical formula.Teenage love triangle, over the top jock/bully,outsider turned heroine. It has the added interest of the back story of Maksim, the evil soul, and how he came to be.
Overall, it was an entertaining little read.I could see this as a teen movie at some time in the future.

Something extra special - Recommend to everyone!

Diana Murdock is one of my favourite authors. A year or so back, I read her first book, ‘Again’. It has haunted me ever since. This new book is no different. I read it a few months ago and yet again, I can’t get it out of my mind. The plot is genius, unique, full of suspense and the characters are fascinating, realistic and very easy to associate with. This, in itself, makes for an awesome book; but there is something else that makes Diana’s work extra special - and that is quite simply the heart and soul with which she writes. There is power in her words that sucks you into the world of her story and locks your mind on the tale she has to tell. Ms Murdock is an incredibly talented author and I shall be buying this book in paperback for my daughter who also happens to be a Diana Murdock fan. Diana, thank you for sharing this story with your readers, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You absolutely rock.

I should hold my hands up here and say that I have never been a great fan of YA literature; or should I say I never 'thought' I could be a fan of YA; this huge assumption on my part, that YA is not for the likes of an oldie like me has ensured I could have missed out on some fantastic novels and stories that I would never have picked up in the past. Diana's novel Souled is one such, it is not something I would have picked up off the shelf, because "I never read YA", and what a mistake that would have been. This is a gripping read and explores the rich territory of the 'if it seems too good to be true, it probably is' scenario. It is a paranormal romance genre that twists and turns through the supernatural world that means you always want to know what happens next. The ending left me wondering and hoping that there will be a sequel as there is definitely more to this story that is yet to unfold.

This was FREE on Amazon and got rave reviews, so I was excited about reading it. I guess I've read too many other great YA books to really think it was that captivating, though. The concept was intriguing, but I just didn't care about the characters enough to really get into it. High school jocks with big egos fighting over the most beautiful girl in school combined with paranormal activity. Meh.

Power and Control…

And when the soul reveals its true intentions, will Seth have the strength to fight it or would death be less painful?

With a summary like that it was hard to resist reading this book. Evil soul invited to live inside a boy's body. Magic, supernatural elements, high school love, the book had all the elements to become a great story, which it unfortunately didn't come close to being.

The thing that put me off the most happened in the first two chapters. The fact that the main protagonist "bought the soul" online. Yes, you read that right. The evil, cursed sorcerer's soul entered Seth's body through an internet ad. I just could not digest that.

The characters in the book are not well described. Even though the book is written through the point of view of three characters, Seth, Dani and Alyx, I could not connect to a single one of them.

There is a love triangle between Seth, Dani and Seth's best friend Justin which could have been explored more.

The end is predictable and not well executed. Alyx is shown to have a lot of knowledge regarding soul possession which is neither explored nor used properly. In the end the evil soul is simply dumped on someone else, who is very predictably, Justin.

All in all, the book is poorly written, the characters are under described, the plot is slow, and the end is not convincing.

Sorry, but I would not recommend it to anybody.

July 23, 2012
What will you do if you are promised power and control to get closer to the person you love the most. But then learn that this power and control would be the reason to break that love?

Let me say, the premise isn't new. However, It was told from the perspective of two very interesting couple, Seth and Dani. Seth is a 17 year-old, who wanted to get everything for his girl Dani. He might even risk inviting another soul to empower him for the sake of love. When he realizes how strong this demon has on him, he starts to fight again for the sake of his love. The other POV is Dani's, she is Seth's girlfriend. She loves him so much that she believed that someone took over his soul. She then starts to look for every possible way to help him. Will love conquer all as they say?

the wow!:
1. the established relationship between Seth and Dani. So there wasn't any insta-love and cheesiness.
2. it's relatively brief and to the point. Which is my favorite kind of writing.
3. The plot development was nice too.

the uh-oh!:
1. Seth and Dani's relationship wasn't deep enough for me to really connect with it. I get that they love each other so much but why? beyond his good with dogs. Which made not like the established relationship much but I'd take that on any insta-love crappy plot.
2. I hope there'll be a book about Alyx and Justin. Because they could totally work. and seeing how it ended, there has to be a sequel (there is, right?).
3. Some parts were very predictable.

Souled
By Diana Murdock

Seth is completely head over heels in love with his girlfriend, Dani, he would do anything for her and to keep her. So when he comes across an ad proclaiming a soul for sale that would give him more control over his life he reluctantly jumps at the opportunity, even if it turns out to be a hoax he would only be out one dollar. But then the ad turns out to be true and he finds himself with more than he bargained for.

I am always interested in a paranormal romance that is unique; this one is one of those occasions. The first half of the novel is written completely in Seth’s perspective as he becomes the host to another soul that soon begins to become more frightening. The second half of this novel is written from Dani’s perspective as she fights to save the one she loves. I have yet to come across another book like this where it is broken down into the different perspectives, it makes the novel truly original and interesting yet when we come to Dani’s side of the story it feels odd because we do not know her side personally by the time we get to it. But the biggest problem I had with this book was that it was highly anti climatic, the author starts off with an amazing action scene that abruptly halts and the conclusion is settled by the click of a mouse, I think if she had gone back to Seth’s perspective in this instance it may have turned out much better but in the end it was a complete let down.

At first look, Diana's Souled looked like a warrior book based somewhere in Scotland. Though a little bit misleading, the contents of the book took you on a roller coaster ride! And no, not in Scotland.

I didn't remember what the book was about when I started reading it. And sometimes, that's one of the things that keeps a book interesting. It makes a book a lot more surprising and less unpredictable if you avoid allowing the blurbs to cloud your imagination.

Souled began with a beautiful Poem. And ended with a good ending that makes you yearn to read more. In Souled, Seth is an okay character though he reminded me too much of a girl that I sometimes forgot that I was reading from a males point of view. I guess, I'm too used to reading from a females perspective. The female protagonist, Dani, on the other hand, I didn't like much. She is Seth's girlfriend and immediately I sided with him more than her. Seth loves her way too much and her feelings towards him felt dull and unbalanced. Like she was confused.

The plot was very enjoyable. It's something different though all the other elements are straight from the typical YA Paranormal Formula. The best part of the plot was the fact that it was fast paced and straight forward. No strays, and no confusing details.

I really liked Souled but not the concept of having another soul take over your body. That really freaks me out. *shivers*

Souled has all the elements of a YA Paranormal Romance but with a twist. Very enjoyable and a recommended read for all YA paranormal readers.

First I would like to thank Diana Murdock for allowing me to be sucked into her wonderful world of writing. I would have never picked out a book like Souled, but I am glad that I had the chance to be able to read and review it. It was a new spin on a plot, buying a soul, that really made Souled an interesting read.

The first half is from Seth’s POV and you get to know him and his love for Dani, his loyalty to Justin, and the pressures that are rolling around in his head. He is, in general, a good guy but with all these pressures is what pushes him into buying a soul. A strive to be better, a want to keep Dani by his side, and a longing for his father to be home more often. But once the sell is made, you start to read the changes that are happening in him. What I didn’t realize, until later, is that the italicized chapters between the chapters of the main characters have just as an important plot. You learn about the soul’s past life.

What I loved was that half way through the book, the POV switched to Dani. What a wonderful idea because now the reader can really feel how much all of this is hurting her and what she is willing to do to get Seth back now that she is realizing that it is no longer Seth in his body.

The final chapter (I KNEW IT WAS COMING!) is told from Alyx’s POV; a new friend to the group. When she finally realizes what has happened, the book ends, and I was left mouthing “OH NO!” (it was late, I didn’t want to wake anyone up.)

Isn't it funny how one little detail about a book will make you want to read it. What was it in this one? That fact that it's set in Sandpoint, Idaho. Most people probably have never heard of this little town in northern Idaho. But, I have several friends from there, so I jumped on it. I'm so happy I did!

This turned out to be a story that I wasn't expecting. Seth was a really great lead character. He's not perfect. He wants more than what he has. I never felt like he was ungrateful. It was more like he was afraid those around him would suddenly realize they could do better than him. I could totally see how a teenager like him would be intrigued by an add promising power and control. Someone could possibly buy it as a joke. I liked how he fought the soul when it came to complete possession. It shows the true natural of his spirit. He should have believed in himself to begin with! I also liked his girlfriend. I'm not usually one for he/she's the one relationships in high school. But, every once in awhile it works. It does here.

The lore surrounding the spirit was really interesting. I liked how it could be traced back through history (although it felt a little convenient). It was a very good set up and completely believable when it comes to magic and mythology. The ending left the book open for a series, but also leaves it wrapped up in case the author decides not to.
