I highly recommend this really old book, Raj Kapoor -The Fabulous Showman written by his publicist Bunny Reuben in 1988 and published by NFDC. In this 400-page book you have unseen pictures of Raj Kapoor, his family, his films. And there are intimate stories about what was happening to his cinema at that time, back stories of how the casting was done particularly about Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Mera Naam Joker. Its very interesting because it shows how passionately the filmmaker worked.
It’s a 400-page book and it is dedicated to the three pillars of his career—music composer Jaikishan, lyricist Shailendra and his voice, Mukesh. I think you won’t be able to get your hands on this book anywhere but I have been lucky and there is also a picture bookmark in this book, featuring Raj Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala. This book’s layout, the font, the titles are very old world and magazine like but it is okay because it reflects a certain vintage time that the cinema has been through that we have been through.
