Moonlight Saga #1

Taken By Moonlight

Rate this book
When she agreed to go camping with her twin to honor a birthday milestone, Vivienne Bordeaux imagined itchy mosquito bites, the possibility of West Nile, and perhaps foot-fungus, but she never anticipated just how much her life would change. After almost dying under the snapping jaws of a rabid wolf—go figure—Vivienne is saved by a gorgeous, dark-haired man, who may just belong to a cult. Her attraction to Conall is strong, and she’s unable to control it, especially when he’s touching her….

Conall Athelwulf is no man. He’s a werewolf, the leader of the largest pack in New York, and he knows better than anyone that relationships between weres and humans are strictly forbidden. So why is he unable to get beautiful, but very human, Vivienne Bordeaux out of his system? Amidst fears he’ll hurt her, Conall soon realizes that laws be damned, he’s unwilling to let her go. Instinct tells him Vivienne is his in every sense of the word, and a smart wolf heeds his instincts.

When others threaten his claim, Conall is determined to teach them the hard way: fists or claws. But Vivienne isn’t as she seems, and both parties soon find themselves at the center of an epic war, where Vivienne may be key to the salvation of an entire race.

Well Ms. Dubrinsky, I LOVED your book!!! I have been reading more book recommendations when I can and when the books seem interesting that were suggested to me through the Fans of Interracial Romance group here on gr and this was the buddy read for September.

I am so happy that I picked it up! So let's jump right in...

What I LOVED about it:

1 - When it was hot and steamy, it was on fire hot and steamy!

2 - There was a very detailed and developed plot. There were witches, werewolves, vampires, druids, warlocks, and so on. The history was extensive on each and the way she linked it all together made sense and it was in a way that I have not read before!

3 - Conall!!!! Mother freaking smoking hot CONALL!!!! I want to lick him from head to toe just like the wolf that he is would do to his mate. I want to have his little wolf pups and have him call me beautiful one with his accent. Did I mention he has tattoos and he's huge and hot? *LAWD* I love the relationship between him and Viv! They are so right together and HAWT!!!!

4 - I loved the balance of drama/angst and happy hot fun time! I didn't feel over or undersexed and even though this is a series I felt like if I don't read another book in it I would be happy with the conclusion I got. Also, the epilogue rocked!!!

5 - Lastly, and very important to me when I read these kinds of books... the black women in the story were not gum popping, head swiveling stereotypes, despite living in New York and the ease with which the author could have gone there. Drew had her edge to her but they all seemed like real people I could hang with. It is hard to find sometimes even when the book is written by a person of color characters that aren't all the way on one end of the spectrum ie: gum popping, finger snapping or the other ie: completely denying that any difference exists. So yeah! I appreciate that, a lot!

What could have been better...

1 - It was a massive book I think it said almost 500 pages. It made sense for everything that was covered but I think it could have been thinned out a little bit.

2 - The editing was done well but there were some distracting typos and places where it said "him" but should have said "her" for instance that threw me off from time to time. But it wasn't a huge deal.

3 - There were A LOT of characters. It was kind of difficult to keep track of after awhile. I was like wait who is he? Oh, is that a vamp or warlock or???? I assume we'll see a lot of these characters in the rest of the series so I get it but maybe I could have been introduced to less of them this time around.

So I'm not going to give you a run down of what happens. You can read the synopsis and get an idea. Plus as I stated there are a lot of characters and there are all kinds of twists and turns and I don't want to give anything away. So I'm just going to do a casting for some of the main characters and call it a day... Read it!!! :D

It's not every day a girl wakes up and finds out that witches exist, her mother's one of them, she's a druid, and witches are after her, so please excuse me while I have a breakdown."

My Thoughts:
This is another one of those reviews that I won't give a lot of detail about because I don't want to ruin it for future readers. This is a must read book for anyone who loves an eclectic mix in their paranormal reading. Ms. Dubrinsky did an outstanding job merging legend, myth, history, magic, vampires, weres, druids, witches, and an interracial couple. Taken by Moonlight was a heavy mixture of elements that were expertly woven together in a story that was both complex and absolutely engaging.

Vivienne has been roped into celebrating her twenty-third birthday camping with her twin sister and a few friends. Vivienne is not the outdoorsy type but she goes along for her sister's benefit. The twins are very close and she doesn't want to disappoint her sister. While on a "nature calls" run Vivienne is chased down by a lone wolf. Fearing for her life, Vivienne runs away from the wolf and into the arms of the most handsome man that she has ever encountered but facing Conall for the first time causes Vivienne to scream aaaaaand faint. Thrown off by Vivienne actions, he quickly picks her up and takes her back to the cave where his pack is running from that evening. Conall discovers his nephew Eli, in wolf form, was the wolf that chased Vivienne down in his attempt at a bit of fun. Conall chastises his nephew and leaves him to watch over Vivienne while he leads the pack on the evening run. While he is out, Vivienne comes around and encounters a smiling Eli. She is immediately on alter and fearful because she was taken away from her campsite. Eli's smiling face and easy going nature sets her at ease...it also doesn't hurt that he offers her something warm to drink and chocolate. Her ease with Eli instantly evaporates when Conall returns. Conall is big and imposing and Vivienne is afraid of (but mildly attracted to) him. Conall agrees to take Vivienne back to her sister's campsite and ends up carrying her because of her utterly exhausted. In his arms, Vivienne finds rest and Conall finds that he has developed an attraction for a human. A human. Weak! Frail! Taboo among their kind! In an attempt to purge Vivienne from his mind he goes to the camp where the wolves are and aggressively copulates with the alpha female. Unfortunately for Conall, it doesn't work as well as he hoped because he falls asleep with Vivienne on his mind.

The next day brings Vivienne back to civilization and to her friends and roommates Drew and Max. The three go to a nice dinner and have plans to go to a new club, Fangs, that Max suggested. When the trio arrive at the club they are immediately engulfed into an atmosphere of scantily clad women and sex in the air. The girls do not adjust well and are very uncomfortable but Max sets off to find his woman-du-jour. As Vivienne and Drew are standing near the bar, Vivienne encounters a man that instantly gains her attention. She can't see his face but there is something around him from this back that enraptures her. Following him like a beacon, Vivienne makes her way to where he is....HE being Conall. Fate has brought them together again. The are taken on a fast paced journey of attraction, lust, love....and more.

I love the multidimensionality of this story. This wasn't just a man-meets-woman-and-they-fall-in-love-and-live-happily-ever-after story. This story was complex in that in mixed a bit of history and myth together and compelling because it drew the reader into a world of magic, legends, and secrets. Both the primary and secondary characters were interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with Cassie and Alexander and Drew and Max.

Ok I thought out of the box when I picked this book it had druids(which I never heard of until now), werewolves, vampires, warlocks and so on. Well I must say it was interesting but the most thing I loved is it was not a short book I care for books that have length to them but it still left loose ends so I wonder will it be a part two. I feel like it will be nothing was final with Max, Drew or Cassie. I hope Alexander surfaces again for Cassie. There mom Evelyn was a riot and so much about her daughters. Well as for Viv and Conall they fell relatively fas I must say. They didn't know much about each other but there connection is strong. The sex was made me blush and kept me interested. This was my first book by this author I'm impressed.

I was thoroughly impressed by Ms. Dubrinksy's foray into the world of IRR/Paranormal Romance. She has done an exceptional job with this book, and I really wish that some authors would learn from her example that a good story can stand alone without heavy doses of erotica & just be seasoned with it.

At the end of the book, there's a word that's mentioned 2x, that being the word "Perfect."

And that's exactly the best way that I can describe this book, 100% pitch Perfect.

Giving this one 5 Humongous Stars.

This book had everything! Druids, witches, vampires, werewolves, twins etc. You name it, it was in this novel. This is the first novel I've read by Violette Durbrinsky, and although I thoroughly enjoyed, at times there was just too much going on for my personal tastes. The romance between Vivienne and Conall was sweet and erotic at the same time. The other characters such as Drew and Max etc. already having me planning to purchase book 2 the day its released :)

This was a good book, definitely could have been a great book if it didn't leave so many questions being asked in the end. I had questions in the end not because of my own curiosities, but because the author thought enough to bring other characters and their stories into the book, but never ended them. So I was left wandering "What happened to the Drew and the Warlock?” Any way’s If you go back and only read the parts about the main character and her Wolf Man, it’s a good story.

SO, I just finished Taken by Midnight and it was SOOOO GOOD! It's her birthday and Vivienne decides to take a camping trip with her twin sister Cassandre to celebrate their birthday. While in the woods Vivienne is "attacked" or so she thinks and is saved by Conall, the Cedar Creek wolf pack Alpha. Conall knows automatically that Vivienne is his mate,S something in Vivienne is released that makes their bond not just intense but magical as well. As their magical connection grows, dark forces make attempts to steal that something special inside Vivienne.

Taken by Midnight is an epic tale on par with Game of Thrones, True Blood, and Lord of the Rings. It has Vampires, Greek Gods, Weres, Druids, Warlocks and Witches. Mixed in with all of that is a sweet story that has left me wanting more. I fell in love with every single character! Which is so rare for me. It was so good that I locked myself in my bedroom (literally!) and ignored my famiy until I finished it. I am hoping this will be the beginning of a series, so happy that Viv and Conall go their HEA, but what about Drew, Max, Cassie, and Alexander? (Hint, hint) I so badly want to go on and on about this novel but, cant without giving the story away. I will tell you this is a definite must read! I've read other novels by Ms. Dubrinsky, I've not been disappointed and neither will you. I cant wait to read more of her work.

Smart, excellent heroine and smoking hot alpha hero, this interracial/paranormal romance is a full length book and does not disappoint.
Conall was gentle, loving, full of passion, sexy, dedicated and totally all about putting his mate first. All the while maintaining the hardness needed to exert his role as the alpha of his wolf pack.

My only complaint about this book is

there was alot of fainting
The weird half animal half human sex kinda weirded me out, but other than that, HOT!

I surely hope the author writes a book about Drew and the other twin!

Interracial Romance A to Z Challenge: T
#PopsugarReadingChallenge2019
Prompt - A book inspired by mythology, legend, or folklore: Greek and Celtic Mythology.

I've had this book and a few others by this author on the TBR for years but hadn't gotten to them, and I'm honestly kicking myself for that right now because this was awesome. This was everything I love about UF/PR done extremely well.

It was a lot, and there were times where the characters did something that annoyed me or seemed a stereotypical trope for the genre, but this was so well thought out that those behaviors were explained. That is awesome. I can't even fully explain how well thought out this was because it ties directly into the plot and progression of the story. But, trust me, it was great. The writing was kind of clunky in parts and repetitive in others, but I liked the story so much that I'm willing to overlook it. Yes, you read that correctly. Me, Mrs Rip Your Prose Apart, is willing to overlook something.

I was engaged from the start and only put it down when I had to be a responsible adult. Unfortunately, the author seems to have vanished back into real life and there haven't been any subsequent series or other works to sink into, so I'm extra thankful that I got to read this and still have a few other stories from her.

Happy reading!

Vivienne’s world is turned upside down, when she repeatedly bumps into the handsomest man she has ever seen. But keeping her hands off Conall is the least of her problems. He is her mate after all. But meeting him breaks the binding spell her mother has used to protect her and her sister. Finding herself in a world of werewolves and gods and being the only druids on the planet are the twins' real problems. Conall is the alpha of the biggest wolf pack in New York, and you get there by listening to your instincts or your wolf. So when he meets the seemingly human Vivienne and his wolf says, “She is theirs,” he throws caution to the wind and risks breaking one of the biggest supernatural laws. Then she stops being human and starts being a target for a crazed and evil witch, who also happens to be the father of her best friend. Conall and Vivienne have a lot to deal with, not least her lack of knowledge of pack rules. Between challenges and shunned exes, life is complicated. Pack politics aside, the evil grand wizard wanting immortality at any cost is a bigger threat to everyone. Especially when the cost he expects to pay is Vivienne and her sister. Ms. Dubrisnky has produced an amazing book, let down only by a few inconsistencies. The characters are full and exciting. Conall is a big-bad-wolf twisted around Vivienne’s pretty little finger. Taken by Moonlight is a long story, partly in preparation for what promises to be an exceptional series, which still manages to grip you at the start and keeps you hooked all the way through, with a well-developed world and comprehensive history. The build-up of tension and excitement stays until the very end, leaving the reader eager for the next installment. I highly recommend a visit to Cedar Creek Pack. I am sure we will be seeing them again very soon. Hollie Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More - See more at: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/Book...

Well written and entertaining.

Smart, excellent heroine and smoking hot alpha hero.

Humor! Usually sorely lacking in IR romances. A welcome element here.

Although this is a fated mates story. It contains an actual love story with the characters growing into the relationship. I enjoyed the luxury of sitting back and reading a story that allowed a relationship to actually develop while still being immediate and exciting.

Exciting plot, especially with the various Supernatural communities vying for power with Vivienne and her twin Cassandra playing pivotal roles in the showdown (even if they don't know it).

I enjoyed that the villain had an actual reason for doing what he did. He wasn't just bad for bad's sake. He had true motivation. He was duplicitous but still he wasn't cartoony.

Great secondary characters that made me as invested in them as I was in the main characters. I especially loved Max and Drew. I am hoping they are sequel bait because I would love to see them meet up again. They were heartbreaking. Poor Max & Drew.

Ditto Cassandra and Alex.

Fantastic read all around!

Verdict: mostly good! Ironically, I enjoyed everything in this romance but the romance, since some sex scenes were repetitive and the love interest was the typical overprotective, "thou-shalt-not-leave-the-house-unless-I'm-stalking-you" werewolf. You know the type. LOL.

Also wasn't amused by the protagonist's "oops, might get pregnant, tee hee!" attitude, egged on by friends, or her forgetting her job, particularly since she was explicit and practical about both earlier.

On the other hand, the pages went by fast, given the above-average word count, and I loved the Buffy-esque urban fantasy action! Loved the various warlocks, witches, werewolves, vampires, and druids with legends unique to Violette Dubrinsky's world. (Go blue guys!) I loved that Vivienne's family and heritage played such a big role and were a part of this world-building too. I really enjoyed all the characters and their individual storylines- or the storylines that were teased! I want to see their stories continue! Especially Max and Alexander. I've read on Dubrinsky's blog that Max's book is forthcoming, yay!

For a fan of both paranormal and IRR it is hard as hell to find a book that combines the two. Then when you do it is usually a short read. This right here was a full length, PR/IRR that was so well written it blew my socks off! I was so caught up in the world that the author created and the love story of the H&H that when it ended I was absolutely ticked off. I could have read this story forever. If you like these 2 genre's but can't ever find anything worth reading, trust me you must get this. I loaned it to a friend with the same interests and she has proclaimed it the best book of the year. Trust me, you wont be disappointed.

I first read Ms Dubrinsky's works on literotica.com where she was quite a popular author under the name SecretFantasy69, back in 2008. I was so sad to see that she had disappeared, and had not mentioned her published name on her literotica page. It was only by chance after seeing old literotica awards for her work 'When Irish Eyes are Watching' that I stumbled across her old blog with her name. I'm so glad I rediscovered this author. I hope she published 'When Irish Eyes are Watching' again and her other literotica works. They were wonder reads. I'm so happy to see how popular she has become as a published author.

Does anyone know what happened to Violette Dubrinsky? Why is her work no longer available. You cannot purchase her books on any site. Amazon does not bring up her name or books unless you go in from an old post. Barnes and Noble also, don't have any of her work for sale. Even if she's just taking a break her previous books should be available. Strange???

I really would like to read the sequel to Taken by Moonlight. That was an excellent book I read over a year ago. I have been waiting for the sequels. The stories were left unfinished.

I hope the author is well. If so, if she could give her fans an update.

This book was really good. I just came across this author on the internet and it appears she has not released anything in some years. But this book had it all from the PNR world, Wolves, witches, druids it kept me on my toes. I loved every bit of it. The characters were really well developed and kept you engaged in the story.

Awesome story and I can't wait for the sequel. It fell short of 5 stars for a few reasons: Too long, it was all over the place at times, and a few too many characters/subplots for one book. Great set up for a series and well developed fantasy world.

I feel so conflicted. On one hand I enjoyed most parts of the book although at the end I was skimming the Conall and Vivienne scenes. It was nice how in depth or more-so how imperfect the background of the council and its history was. It was how everything is perfect for one group and all is happy. There were conflicts internally and externally. On the other hand i felt like it focussed on the side characters just a bit too little. At the end I was wondering about Drew, Max and Cassie more than the main H and h. The H and h's conflicts were basically resolved and one could perturbed that everything was going to be resolved in the end but I kept wondering about Drew and what would happen to her. I understand that there are possibilities or a sequel to this story, although I highly doubt it now, but it just cuts off with Drew seeing the picture of herself, max possibly becoming the leader of the witches. I wish there was a tiny bit more closer to that. With Cassie I was more satisfied because for her end there was high indication that she'll see Alex again, but for the i there's we had no clue. Along with that, I didn't quite like how the h would forgot about her friends. When she spent time with Conall hiding from Conin she barely mentions Max and almost finished him. Idk about her but if my even if my friend was kidnapped by his father I would be more worried about him. She knew the personality of his father yet she was so dismissal. Overall I still hold onto my fleeting hope that Max and Drew will reunite, as we'll probably never see the continuation to this plot. :( Seeing how the author has disappeared completely.

I read this book perhaps 7 years ago and it was one of the best things I read at that time. I decided to wait for the sequel and just sort of forgot about it yunno; I remembered the book eventually this week and I found it again. The only downside is that the sequel never came out and I'm still left with the same questions I was left with when read it for the first time.

You know when you read a book many years back and you thought it was low-key peak Literature and then you re-read it again and you're like, "wtf was I thinking" yeah...this book is not like that. It's somehow even better than I remembered.
The author just knows how to tie storylines together well, except Drew, Max, Cassandre and Alexander's storyline. I had a lot of what? Where? and Why? questions about them. There should absolutely be more. What happened to the druid community after? They didn't even get to hang with their grandma? Or great grandma?.

Regardless of my questions, the build up to the climax was really good. I loved how we got to see every single persons perspective as to why they did the things they did, good or bad.
The punishment given to villain was literally peak! Maximilian Cronin got his wish but not his way😌.

So as not to give up too much, all I will say about Vivienne and Conall is that they were very passionate people. Conall did not play about his woman at all, dude was ready to get down at any time.

On a final note, I hope the sequel comes out one day. I also hope the author is fine.

How do I begin?

I know Taken by Moonlight's genre is romance/fantasy, but I wish the author has taken more time to give more details on Vivi's druid x witch background. That and I want to see more druid/witch actions scenes from the book. The book doesn't give me that. It feels lackluster.

I give 3 stars for plot potential, but other than that, it's little disappointing.

I enjoyed this book, but found that it had to many POV's, and left me with more questions than answers.
The main heroin and hero, had a HEA, but the other characters that had many POV's, were left without any conclusion to their side story.
I feel that it this story was worth 3.5 stars
