Echo Island

Rate this book
Having been alive for seven hundred years, Cassandra Anders has made giving into her carnal needs a dirty habit. She's been using men since the day she was turned, and loving every second of it. Known by most Mirror Warriors, or supernatural beings, as a bit of a party girl, it's no surprise to anyone when she instantly starts up a new fling with a shapeshifter during this century's Fundur, a meeting including members of all supernatural sects.

Harper Donnelly might just be in the market for a little pleasure himself, and he's never been with a vampire before. But just as things are starting to heat up between the two of them, other Fundur attendees start disappearing, or worse. Now not only does he have to figure out his feelings, keep out of the way of a jealous demon, but also figure out whose attacking them all before he or Cass end up being next.

Can these two survive their trip to the island long enough to see if what's between them is real? Or will they die before they ever get the chance?

Disclaimer: I recieved this book for free in return for a review.

This is a good book, the lead character of Cassandra is interesting as she has a relatively developed backstory and isn't strikingly a Mary Sue type character, quite possibly thanks to the fact that everyone in the book (or at least the Mirror Warriors) could be considered somewhat Mary Sue types merely by being supernatural.

The plot is intriguing - I was a bit worried from the synopsis that there would be more smut than plot but was pleasantly surprised that the smut actually takes somewhat of a back seat. The plot itself is an interesting one - it largely leaves the way open for a sequel but does a good job of rounding the story up if there isn't one. There is some tension build up and a couple of twists and turns, but I found this book to be one that I wanted to continue reading and see it through to its conclusion. Unlike quite a few of the free books you can get that are slow to begin this book quickly sets the scene (although time period might be more appropriate) and rarely has a dull moment.

There are some obvious typos and the book could benefit from a more substantial proof read before publication but the same can be said for many of the self-published (and some professionally published) books that are available.

I would recomend this book as it is quite a light hearted novel that is a quick and easy read - it strikes me as something that fans of the 'chick-lit' genre might enjoy.

Wow... Tempest C Avery... Wow...

So young and unbelievably talented. This book was nothing short of amazing! The ever changing and expanding plot just draws you in. The concept of the Mimics was my favourite! Never heard of that twist to the shape-shifters... Soooo good! Where the heck does she come up with this stuff?

Echo Island tells the story of a centuries old vamp and how she finds love in an unlikely place... While that sounds sappy / clichéd - when taking into account that there's a deranged ghost and even more psychotic evil witch out for what initially appears as vengeance and furthermore, all this transpires on an island in the middle of a highly sensitive Fundar with immortals disappearing and dropping like flies... It gets a little intense!

The cast of characters is amazingly rich - each one has their own story to tell and how they've each had their paths crossed over the centuries they've been alive just adds to the allure of Echo Island.

It's a fast-paced, romantic, action-packed thrill ride!

Tempest C Avery - you're a legend!

I wanted to give this book a 6 star rating..it was that good.

Cassandra was on fire at 700 years old, she was still hot, and looking for action.
She came to Hasley's Island along with the other mirror warriors for the fundur.

That where she met Harper, and her life was out of control after that first contact.

I can't stop now, this book was like a paranormal reunion, with all of your favorite ghosts, Werewolvies, witches, shapeshifters,
valkyries, sirens, selkies and the humans.

This was not a friendly meeting all the old hate was still in place, but had to take a back when mirrors started coming up were missing.

A great read love it, I can't wait until the next book.

I came to enjoy Echo Island much more than I had initially thought I would. Since it was about the usual supernatural species (vampires, werewolves, shifters, witches, etc.) I had feared that it might fall short in the plot and originality departments, however, I am glad to say I didn't find that to be the case.

Overview:
The story follows a group of supernatural beings who are sent to an island for an event called the "fundur" that occurs once every 100 years. The "fundur" is meant to allow each of the groups to send two representatives in order to negotiate with the other groups and decide whether alliances or war will better serve their respective subspecies. They are all called "Mirror Warriors" and are all immortal beings. The two main characters we are introduced to are a young shifter named Harper and a 700 year old vampire named Cassandra. Cassandra is known well throughout the mirror warrior community for being not only ruthless but also a player. She decided early on that she would never let a man hold her down and that commitment and relationships were something that didn't appeal to her. However, once on the island neither her nor Harper can deny that they feel a strong attraction for one another that goes beyond a strictly physical one. It is said that all mirror warriors have one true mate in life and that if they come across this mate in their lifetime a marking will appear on both parties after the first time they are intimate. Mates are meant to be a lifelong thing for mirror warriors and aren't something that is taken lightly among their kind. However, after the first time Harper and Cass are intimate no markings show up on either party and they begin to realize that they really might not be meant for one another. However their feelings that they share some form of connection cannot be denied by either party.

As the "fundur" is scheduled to begin, strange things begin to happen on the island and mirror warriors begin to disappear and turn up injured or not return at all. Finally the owner of the island and head of the "fundur", Hasley, is forced to go searching for the source of the problems, as not only is he responsible for the safety of all those on the island but he also has some secrets of his own that make their current situation all the more troubling to him. As the events and attacks begin to spiral out of control the mirror warriors can only hope that they can catch the threat before it takes them all out and Cass and Harper have to make it through this alive if they want to find out what lies beyond their attraction.

My Thoughts:
I actually went into this book not knowing that it was the second in a series and I have to say that even without having read the previous novel this book stood perfectly well on its own in my opinion. The plot, although not overly complex, was interesting and the pacing of the story never left me feeling bored or like the story was being dragged out. The characters all felt like they had their own personalities and none felt to generic. The two main leads Cassandra and Harper made for an interesting pair and definitely left me wanting to know if they would end up together in the end. Having read a fair amount of supernatural genre stories in my life, I can honestly say that this story didn't fall prey to many of the stereotypes that some do. The fact that they even went outside the normal groups (werewolf, vampire, witch, shifter) and even added in some additional mythological creatures such as the valkyries, selkies, sirens, and demons also helped give the story a bit more variety. All in all, I gave the story 3/5 stars and would have given it 4/5 stars if it hadn't been for the numerous spelling and grammatical errors throughout the story. It was still readable, however, I definitely feel that another proofread and edit could make this story alot more solid and professional looking.

Bottom-Line:
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys supernatural romance/mystery stories as long as they can overlook some typographical errors.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

(As a side note, I did not realize that this was the second book in a series when I read it.)

Echo Island is a paranormal romance that contains an equal amount of action and a bit of horror-esque mystery on the side. Cassandra, a Vampire, and Harper, a Shapeshifter, are the main players, although the cast is large and there is a wide range of supernaturals, including Valkyris, Sirens and Selkies. After being invited to a supernatural conference known as the "Fundur," supernaturals begin to get attacked one by one until the remaining supernaturals decide to take action. Despite their differences, they must work together and play on each other's strengths if they want to stay alive. Throughout this, Cassandra and Harper struggle with romantic feelings despite knowing that they are not meant for each other (due to the concept of "mates").

This is the second book I have read by this author, and I have noticed a significant improvement, both in writing style/plotting and in grammar. It was much harder to put down than All That We See Or Seem . There are still mistakes present, but they are much less frequent, limited to apostrophe usage, and did not irritate me. The dialogue is still relatively loose, as much of it could be trimmed. Because the cast is so large, and the author tries to include all of them in the action, there can be a lot of characters talking in one scene. I found this difficult to follow. There was also a bit of info dump in the dialogue to explain the various characteristics of each supernatural. I didn't see how the Valkyries played a significant enough role to merit inclusion in the story. They seemed present just to increase the variety of supernatural critters, and I never really understood under which circumstances these immortals will/will not die.

The pacing of this story is good. The disappearances/attacks happen in intervals that are neither too short, nor too long, although I felt that Cassandra and Harper did not take enough initiative. They seemed mostly swept along until the very end of the story. Cass is sexually aggressive and is not ashamed of her past flings, which makes her a character who does not take anything from anyone.

This book handles the problem of soul mates well. I dislike, in general, stories that have soul mates who, because they are mates, fall instantly in love with each other and go all sappy about it because they are "meant to be." This does not happen with Harper and Cassandra. .

This book earns a four from me. A low four, but a four all the same.

Title: Echo Island
Author: Tempest C. Avery
Format: ebook 239
Genre: Paranormal Romance Fantasy Adult
Cover: Nice
Characters: 700 yr old vamp Cassandra & 150 yr old shifter Harper and so many more!!!!
Series: Yes (this is the second one in the series….didn’t even know that until I finished reading it)
Rating: 5 stars

After reading the first chapters I decided to take some type of notes because it was getting hard to keep track of everyone of the characters. So before beginning the review I went back and reviewed the notes, and holy mole… oh baby…. I remember that!! When I say packed with action I mean both types! And right of the bat!! Wooosssssaaaaaaa now back to the review.

I like the intro. It prepared and allowed us to see Cassandra past a little. I like the fact that she is portrayed as a strong female character and that she has been using men for 700 yrs ever since she was turned. Used them for every evil carnal needs she desired mmmwwwhhhhaaaaa. Not your typical story where the man is the “use them and lose them” type.

I adored Harper; he is funny witty and very patient with Cassandra’s bad attitude. But I understand why she is so cranky 700 yrs is no joke. There are different types of supernatural beings / Mirror Warriors, that at times it was hard to keep up with who was who. But I had my notes if I needed to go back to.

The plot is interesting. I haven’t come across the type of bad villain that is introduced in this story before in any other book I have read. I didn’t realize this was the second book so I will be going back to read the first one. I was a little confused in the first chapter but it cleared up and I was into the story. With so many characters the series can go on for a while. The action starts and continues through out the story and there is never a dull moment. This is an adult book and I recommend it to any adult who like to read paranormal/fantasy romance stories. Looking forward to the next book and see who the next main characters will be. I would like to see if the story continues with Cassandra or Harper and what happens after.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

This is the second book in The Mirror Warrior series. I’m not sure it matter if you read the first book or not. The story picks up with Cassandra Anders and she is the character the book follows. Once you get about a third or so into the book a war is bought up and I’m guessing that is what the first book is about.

I like books that have a little of everything action and romance. I also like when there are several different species of paranormals. This one has Selkies, Sirens, Vampires, Demons, Valkyries, Shapeshifters, Witches, and Werewolves. This is also the host Unknown who owns the island where the meeting all the above species visit to discuss the issues they have every 100 years.

Problems start right away before the meeting can even get started. All the members in attendance scramble to try to figure out who is attacking them when they are suppose to be the only supernaturals on the island. In the mist of the attacks, Cassandra is also trying to fight off the attacks on her heart.

The book was a decent read. I’ve stated a couple of things that I liked about the book already. Though it had romance, I though it- along with other parts of the book- was repetitive. There are 2 or 3 sex scenes, not to graphic though and they were all pretty much the same.

It was also confusing. If I had thought about it I probably would have did a chart. But after a while I was thinking I don’t really care who she is talking about I will figure it out later. There was at least 18 members for the meeting, if you call them first by their first name, then last, then a shorten version of their name, yeah confusing. And then not to mention some of the species were call different things, i.e. witches were Mystics, more confusion. The book also needs a bit more editing.

Echo Island ( The Mirror Warriors #2) by Tempest C. Avery was packed full of supernatural beings in sets of two partners. They had their reasons for battling each other, but pulled together to stop a mystery that was ripping their partners apart. Cassandra , the lead in my eyes, was a 700 year old vampire with a huge heart( at he end). She was a different person at the end of the story from when she first entered the pages of the book ( not so big hearted then). I fell in love with the different characters and what they were all about within their species of the supernatural. This is a little slow in the beginning, but not the kind of slow that you want to put it done or stop reading it. No, this is not a book to be bookmarked and placed on a shelf for a later attempt. About 25 or 30% into the book I was on the island with them. I was feeling strong emotions about the plot that was twisting and turning at every page. I now must read the rest of her books! Her style of writing is flowing, seamless, and mysterious. It's romantic, scary, sad, and happy; all rolled into one complete outstanding novel. Please read if you are interested in fantasy and or vampires or werewolves etc. ( thereare all kinds of supernaturals of extreme interest in this book). All I can say, in one word, is POWERFUL! A powerful, outstanding read! Thank you Tempest for the true honor of reading and reviewing your novel. I hope to review more!

As always with my reviews, I apologize for any missed typos. I wish I was a writing professional, but I am sadly not.... :)

Thank you for reading my review! Tammy

I was rather surprised with this book, firstly I didn't realise it was book 2 but that didn't seem to matter.

This book reminded me of the Dark Hunter series of books, there were so many similar things except this book was slightly more light hearted.

Storyline- I found the story line to be very engaging and flowed really well keeping the pace going and keeping me interasted all at the same time. There was a slight mistake bout were Cass grew up but that was the only thing I could really moan about, plus I would have liked more of the other characters to have been involved. The story like the Dark Hunter books seemed to center mainly on Cass and Harper while floating over the other characters and at times floating over the back story.
The back story of the Witch trying to unleash evil I think was skirted over for the whole Cass and Harper love affair, I thought a little more on why the demons were needed and why she wanted to unleash but then that may be told in the next book.

Characters- I liked the character of Harper I found him very likeable and rather a fun character.
He was a strong character and remained strong all the way through the story, I even found the way he reacted to Cass well written. I would have liked a little bit more description of him.

Cass was not as likeable as Harper but she was a strong character who also remained strong throughout the book. I found her attitude to Harper at the begining a bit of and how she played on his jealousy.

The rest of the characters managed to fit in with the story and helped the story line develop and added to the Cass and Harper love affair.

All in all I did enjoy this book and found it a easy going read.

Cassandra or Cass Anders Allard has been a vampire for over 700 years now. Cass and her partner Katerina Jones in the Mirror Warriors Organization are going to the Fundur that happens once every 100 years along with their fellow Mirror Warriors. Cass has her eye on Mimic Sector Shapeshifter named Harper Donnelly and the same could be said for him as well. Harper or Harp carefully watches the Vamp from afar but can't help but be intrigued by her. Harp is the youngest Mirror Warrior among the group yet that doesn't mean he's less powerful either. They are all heading to an island that is owned by Halsey, an Unknown, that will do everything in his power to see that Fundur goes smoothly. Before Fundur gets fully under way, Callan and Orabelle are attacked by unknown person or persons which sets everyone on edge. The only clue to the attacks is the scent of sulfur that is left behind. As Cass and rest of the Mirror Warriors try to figure out what is going on yet are not having any luck either. Cass and Harp share a mutual attraction to each other that neither can really explain to themselves. Both want to find their one true mate yet are sadly disappointed when the mating mark doesn't appear on either of them. When two more people are attacked with the scent of sulfur still the only clue. Cass wants to find out what is going on as much as the next person but with so little to go on. Can they really find out what is going on? Will Cass allow her feelings to cloud her judgement? What will Harper do about his own feelings? Who is attacking Mirror Warriors and why? Your answers await you in Echo Island.

I received this book as part of my Lovers of Paranormal group on goodreads.com for an honest review.

In that respect I find this a very difficult book to review. The story is great, the characters are fun and enjoyable to read. The plot moves along at a very nice pace and I enjoyed reading most of the book. I wanted to love this book because there are a lot of really good things about it.

It does however have one major flaw... and for me this is my pet peeve..my bugaboo...the fastest thing to interrupt my enjoyment of a novel. It's something I can handle in small doses but this book took it to the extreme. Mis-spelled or incorrectly used words.

An example of this is that several times a character in the novel "titled their head this way or that" instead of tilted.

Or that they were "Dueled out Instructions" instead of Doled out

And perhaps my favorite was when he was tossing around in his "bed Shits" instead of Sheets.

I counted 50+ mistakes in just 22 chapters of reading and every time I did it completely removed me from the world the author was creating and had me rereading a paragraph to puzzle out what the author meant or how it should have been spelt.

Having said that if the author corrects these or if perhaps they aren't as much of an interruption to a less OCD reader then it's a very creative storyline and the next book will probably be good as well.

Personally for me I'll probably pass unless a more polished version is released.

Another excellent read, now I need to go get the first one in this interesting new world to explore. First off It would have been nice if the extras at the end, the listing of character's, was in the beginning. If I had known it was there I would have checked it out before starting cause there were a lot of names to keep straight. For much of the story we bounce between the heads of only a few people so it wasn't really confusing, but it would have made it easier to remember whose who. I really liked this story. There was a little bit of everything; humor, good dialog, action, and a mystery to be solved all wrapped around the evolving romance of the two lead characters, Cass and Harper. There were a few instances where a word was off, either by tense or some other typo, but to me its no big deal, it didn't disrupt the flow of the story. The plot moved at a good pace and the story was full of twists and turns to keep you interested. Some things I could see coming, but others had me surprised. Great story, thanks for giving me the opportunity to read and review for you.

When a vampire and a shapeshifter get together the world is going to change. Cassandra and Harper are on an island full of a wide range of supernatural beings for a conference known as the Funder. Supposedly they are supposed to be safe on the island but in this cat and mouse game it’s the same chances for everyone, now despite their differences they have to work together if they want to remain alive.

I liked the characters overall but the introduction of all of them at the beginning was a little overwhelming. Cassandra and Harper are good for each other and their relationship is hilarious. The mating situation is interesting and one I have never really thought about in great detail. The author takes an interesting view for the characters to see in their relationship and going forward for the future.

Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Let me begin by saying it was a good book. I like that it is part of a series but also a stand alone. However the book was very hard to follow at the beginning. I wish the cast of characters was before the first chapter or a note indicating a cast of characters at the end of the book. I read the first two chapters, put the book down for a day, picked it back up and was so lost I almost quit reading it. The only reason I didn't is because I committed to writing a review. That being said, I am so glad I didn't stop reading the book. Once I was able to really get into the book, it held my attention. I stayed up two nights in a row reading past my bedtime(lol) because I wasn't ready to put it down. This is a series I will follow.

Loved this book!!! I read this book without having read the previous one in the series, but ad no problem following the characters or plot.
The main character Cassandra (Cass) is a very likable strong person. The male main character Harper (Harp) seems to be laid back personality that makes you laugh sometimes at his character.
But it is not just the main couple that makes this book. It has a wide range of characters that opens the reader up to a whole supernatural world (and hopefully a lot more books from this author). I like that she sticks with mostly the basic knowledge that people have of supernatural beings but with just a bit of her own spin to it.
After reading this I immediately went and got the first in the series and anguish to see what this author does with this series.

It had Vamp,Weres, Mimics (can turn into anything they touch), demon, Selkie, Valkyrie, and witches.
On an island for a sort of peace treaty and of course a bad witch and vengeful ghost try to unleash the vilest bad guy ever! Cass (vampire) and Harper (mimic) start in on something..... Won't say more cuz I hate to spoil it. Let me just say it has fighting, biting, magic, and hotness!! You really wanna read this.
I just saw it was second book in series so I will defiantly be picking up the first!!

Iwas given this by author for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't yet read book 1 but this works well as a stand alone book so don't be at all put off by this being book 2.

Cassandra is a character you will either love or hate - I loved her but she could easily annoy others I'm sure!

The only downside for me was the amount of information, character names, world building in the first few pages. I initially felt a little overwhelmed by it all but I soon settled into the story and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Definitely worth reading xx

I really liked this book. It was a nice, easy read with lots of action.
I loved the descriptions of all the paranormal beings and their abilities. I really liked the way the love interests turn out, and, hopefully, the hints of future books in the story.
If you are a fan of paranormal romance, this is a must read.
