Ali bin Abi Talib was one of the early people who believed in the religion of Islam while still a boy. He lived in the Prophet's house and imitated him in all he did, led a humble life till the last moment of his life. The Prophet loved him very dearly. He took him as his brother in Islam. He praised him on many occasions as being the "Lion of Allah". No one of the Companions of the Prophet was as much heroic as Ali was in every battle he fought for the support of the cause of Islam. I hope to read a more detailed biography of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in future, but it was my first biography of him that I read and found it quite informative for such a short read. He led a simple life, didn't why away from mending his own shoes and lying on floor, and he was great at single combat and ended up killing many enemies in one on one fights, all of it added to my knowledge.
The people who revolted against and killed 'Uthman took hold of Al-Madinah and even led the public prayers. The people of the city gave allegiance to the Caliph. However, several regional rulers refused to pledge loyalty to him. They did not deny Ali's ability to lead and his many virtues. However, they felt that he should have taken a firmer stance against Uthman's murderers.
His caliphate lasted four years and a few months but it was a difficult endeavor for him. I loved this book <3
