How does a woman tell her betrothed that she murdered her first husband?
Elise Kingston is a wanted woman. Nothing, not even Highlander Marcus MacGregor, will stop her from returning home to ensure that the man responsible for her daughter’s death hangs.
Until she must choose between his life and her revenge.
Heiress Elise Kingston's whole life changed on one fateful trip from her home in America to London. Her daughter's murder, the death of her brother, her husband's complicity in it all, and the subsequent sinking of their ship...
If you love historical romance this book is for you! It is long so get comfy because once you start you will not want to stop and it goes pretty quick once you get into it. The first thing I loved about My Highland Love is that the main characters are older, Elise had a daughter and Marcus our sexy Highland warrior is a Highland Laird, he is also the son of a Duke, making him a Lord. You never know what is going to happen next with Elise, She’s one smart, stubborn and feisty woman who refuses to give up no matter what especially when it comes to the man who killed her daughter. Elise will stop at nothing to make sure he pays for what he did.
Elise and Marcus will have you going through a range of emotions one being needing a cold shower! The chemistry between these two characters will leave you breathless! This is one book I will defiantly read over and over!
As soon as I read the synopsis for the book I knew I had to have it. I joined the release party on Facebook and with just two excerpts I was running to the publisher's website with my debit card in hand. I will admit that the lovely cover may have swayed me first. ;)
This is the first book I've read by Tarah, and it did not disappoint! I love this book! My love for Highlander tales is something that is still pretty new to me. I've only read about a dozen, and with everyone I read, I fall in love with the genre a little more. There's just something magical about a well written Scottish Romance and that's exactly what you get here. It's a large book, but is quite addicting once you start reading. I read over 350 pages in one day and still wanted to continue reading late into the night. It's definitely hard to put down.
The first thing that really drew me into this story is the ages of the characters. Before this novel I had yet to read a Highland novel about an older, experienced Hero and Heroine. That part of the story was very refreshing and instantly earned a thumbs up from me. The story just got better and better from that point. The ages is not the only unique thing about this book. Not only is Marcus, our swoon worthy hero, a Highland Laird, he is also the son of a Duke, making him a Lord. Part of the story takes place in London, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I've also never read a novel where the characters are outside of Scotland for more than a few pages. Elise is a wonderful female character. She's been through a lot; she's strong, feisty, and doesn't listen to orders very well.
The story is not only well written, but flows at just the perfect pace. One of the most important things in this genre is chemistry between the characters. My Highland Love's Marcus and Elise will set fire to the pages, or your ereader screen! It's romantic and sensual with a good dose of suspense and action added in.
Set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands this tale of love and second chances truly shines among other Highland novels.
If you're looking for the next greatest Highland tale, pick this one up!
How are the sex scenes? Sexy and enjoyable. This novel is sexual, but not all about sex. Marcus's pursuit of and patience with Elise makes consummation all the more attractive. How are the story lines? Good, interesting and they deal with sensitive issues. (Such as death of a child, murder of a spouse and some shocking things that happen towards the end.) All make up great obstacles for the couple to overcome.
Review
Elise is hiding at MacGregor keep and has no time for Marcus - especially since she is instantly attracted to him. (Instantly attracted to, not instantly in love with.)
She often defies Marcus, because she is from America and does not fully understand Highland ways. Love this. It lends humor to Marcus and Elise's relationship and boldness to Elise's character.
From the start Marcus strongly wants Elise. I question his intelligence at times, because he goes through an awful lot of trouble for mere lust. But in the end he figured it out - and was swoon worthy while doing it. "But wouldn't it be more honest to admit you love me?"
Her eyes widened.
"You can trust me." Marcus discerned a quickening of her breath. He'd hit the mark. "For you know," he added, "I love you."
Marcus is this intense, brooding and determined throughout the entire novel. R-O-M-A-N-T-I-C. He crosses oceans just to protect the memory of his beloved and is the reason he and Elise remain together.
For his dedication to Elise alone, "My Highland Love" is a worthy read.

Another romance where keeping secrets leads to tragedy. If they only told each other...
I chalked this up on my unlikeable hero shelf because I truly didn't care for him through about 75% of the story. He was too demanding, keeping the h basically improsioned to the castle even though she was not part of his clan. (nor an enemy). I also disliked how he used sex to distract her from disobeying him. At about 75% he grew on me a little more and it became tolerable to finish.
I liked the h at first but then slowly started to dislike her. I can't really pinpoint exactly what it was except that her stupidity at not reveling her sercret to the H caused a tremendous amout of damage.
The writing was all over the place. Bouncing through with large gaps of time unaccounted for. The secondary characters seemed so underdeveloped, flat and were mentioned so little in the story that I can't comprehend the reason for adding them at all.
If you read this, my example would be of Lady Ross. I felt she should have been a more dominant antagonist or left out completely.
Lastly, I felt there were so many lulls that I almost put this as a dnf. It seems the author concentrated on irrevelant plot lines and disregarded the main. She also threw in too many characters of insignificance, and I felt lost as to who was who and what their purpose was.
Heat level, was pretty good but not very sensual or romantic. Mostly lust driven. The romance build up was almost nil and the H & h really had no chemistry.
I am sorry to say this is one I would not reccommend to anyone, and sadly I do not think I will read the second in this series.
Tarah Scott captures the essence and majestic beauty of the Scottish Highlands which brings light to the Gaelic Accented characters that make any woman swoon with visionary lusts in this spellbinding historical romance. I’m panting already thinking about the honorable Marcus MacGregor in his sexy kilt all muscular and rippling with a day’s hard work sweat yielding a sword. Sigh!
The story is intense but filled with deceit, backstabbing, traitorous murder, kidnapping, and most of all friendship to die for and love which by the way makes this story so spellbinding and truly amazing when the story behind each character adds their secrets making the plot even more mysterious. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough but at the same time I felt as if I wanted the story to last forever due to the passionate fellowship and heartfelt nature of the Highland culture.
The character’s won me over immediately. I loved Elise at times for her feistiness but did get irritated at her for her stubbornness. Marcus on the other hand, not only swoon worthy but smart and wealthy. I loved Marcus story about his deceased wife and his relationship with his son Kiernan. It was truly refreshing to read a story for once where the characters had a past and were not first time lovers. Finally a story where life continues on and happiness is always around the corner even after a tragedy!
The erotic chemistry between Marcus and Elise is sizzling hot and definitely will raise your heart level up a notch or two with their courting chase.
The ending was brilliant; my emotions were running wild with sadness one moment and gasping but ending with a great big smile on my face for the happy ever after. Excellent Read.
3.5 stars. This book was enjoyable. It has a great plot line and a strong sense of trusting issues. The beginning of the book, to how the story started was a bit slow and seemed it wasn't going nowhere. But the plot picked up half way in the book and things has gotten pretty interesting.
I like Elise and Marcus, their understanding, how he understands her. He knew she was hiding something from him even when they got married. He didn't push her.
This is how it began, Marcus has a son, and she has lost her daughter, and her previous husband tried to kill her and he poison their daughter. After Elise killed her husband and thought her brother dead, she was swept by the sea and she was found on the shore in Scotland and till then she's been living with the Clan MacGregor. That's when she met Marcus and when he returned home from London and saw this woman on the road. Ever since he was captivated by her and she by him.
It was very nice book to read and I recommend to anyone who loves reading Highlanders to read this.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but Elise plans to seek revenge on the man who murdered her daughter and nothing, even her own death, will stop her. Enter Marcus MacGregor into her life, whose interest is peaked by the openly defiant and outspoken American woman who has Celt blood running through her veins. She arrived on the MacGregor land a bit of a mystery but her passionate nature has quickly made her future determined, Marcus plans to marry her. Elise has other ideas and has no issues rebuffing his efforts.
A merry dance ensues between the stubborn Elise and the reluctantly patient Marcus, often leading to laugh out loud moments as he tries to win her heart. My Highland Love is filled with fantastic chemistry, intrigue, and a hint of mystery. I thought this was a really enjoyable read, wrapped into the story right away and absolutely loved Elise and Marcus.
Wonderful story if you love book set in the beautiful highlands, sexy men in kilts then this is the book for you set in early 1820's. This book is a love story, adventure, suspense, and murder mystery. I really enjoyed the heroine American Elise Kingston as I felt she was really fierce, independent, and definitely ahead of her time. I also enjoyed alpha warrior highlander Marcus MacGregor, Marquess if Ashlund a very sexy warrior, son of The Chief of Clan MacGregor. This book has many surprises in store for the reader as well as hardships so have a hankie nearby, yet there is joy and laughter as well as a deep passionate love. I enjoyed reading this book very much as I always do reading Tarah Scott's books always an excellent read!
This was a quick read. However, I had a difficult time connecting to the two main characters. I really liked Elise at first; she was strong and independent, but when she was around Marcus she completely lost all of that. I didn't care for Marcus much at all. I know he was a laird and all, but I did not like that he basically kept her as a prisoner and that he felt like he could force himself on her. He did not care at all about what she wanted. I was pissed off at him throughout most of the book. I didn't understand the relationship between Marcus and Kiernan . Why did he seem so estranged and detached from his own son? I felt like he kept pushing him away for no reason that was explained. And why did Kiernan have to stay in London instead of living with Marcus? I don't know... Well, anyways- my favorite character ended up being Steven. I would have liked his story!
After being nearly strangled by her husband and washed overboard her ship, American born, Elise Kingston awakens on the shores of Scotland and is taken in by the the MacGregor's. She has become quite endeared to the elder, Laird Cameron and becomes one of their own, so to speak. When the prodigal son, Marcus MacGregor returns to Scotland and sets his eyes upon the widow, Elise, his thoughts of remaining a widower are dispelled as he sets out to woo the reluctant woman. Elise is a woman of many secrets and she attempts to keep Marcus at bay in order to keep all of her dark secrets hidden.
Marcus MacGregor is a persistent one in his pursuit of the American , but he knows she is not being completely forthcoming about her past. In addition, his neighboring clan, the Campbells, begin a reign of trouble that includes attacking MacGregor women and even kidnapping. Marcus has a lot on his plate, but he never has Elise far from his mind and his heart. Even if in her infinite wisdom, Elise finds her defenses dropping, but will Marcus' assault on her very being be enough to shake some sense into the love wary Elise? Can Marcus protect Elise as he promises her, and will she even accept his protection? You know you are going to have to read My Highland Love by Tarah Scott to find out the answers to those questions, and you definitely should!
As my reader friends know, I am a sucker for a good Highlander book. Not just any Highlander book will do though, it must have a good story, and My Highland Love by Tarah Scott is a great story. I like the fact that Elise is not some wayward, whiny virgin, she is a woman with a past, a woman with her tragedies that make her evolve into the lass that Marcus comes to love. I adore Marcus being an older man with an 18 year old son and loads of responsibilities. This is my first venture into reading Tarah Scott and I am very pleased with those results! She has found herself a new fan and I have begun reading her back-list. I highly recommend My Highland Love by Tarah Scott. I really enjoyed it and I am sure you will as well!
3 hours to long and a scattered disconnected story. (audible whispersync review)
Well this story started out good, then got dull, then it picked up again and then got dull, then the ending was just whatever. This story seemed so disconnected to me. Found myself re winding and wondering what is going on? how did they get there? who is that? What the heck just happened?
The story line and plot from the book description sounded good but just lacked good story telling. It did not flow well at all.
The heroine was just okay but just a bit too stubborn with her secret. I didn't find the chemistry very real or convincing. It felt like it was just forced. There was nothing great or exciting about the hero either. There is a few sex scenes, not erotica, So the book is not rated G.
I just felt the author thoughts rambled and scattered in her mind as she was writing this story, hence the story not flowing very well at all.
There is a lot of dialogue through out the book so that was good. I think if this book had been shortened by about 3 hours and edited for unnecessary scenes it would have been quite enjoyable.
As for the narration, that is exactly why I bought the book, Marian Hussey is one of my favorites and she did a fantastic job. The men sound like men, everyone's accent sounds great. Her reading voice is great. She read with emotion and I just love listening to her.
I can't say I would recommend this story. I can say I highly recommend the narrator.
Luckily I got this as a free read with my KU and 1.99 audible.
Tarah pens "My Highland Love", a historical romance set in the Scottish Highlands, with a plot filled with adventure, murder, romance, suspense, emotions, and many twists and turns. Her characters are realistic and intriguing to the point where you don't want the book to end. Highly recommended for all historical romance fans.
This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this book, from the very first chapter to the last Tarah Scott held my attention with the story of Elise and Marcus, I loved how Elise was presented, she was a strong lass With a past that shaped her into a brave woman. I loved that Marcus kept trying to win her even thou he knew she held secrets. I was pulled into this story and I hated to see it end, I recommend anyone who enjoys historical romance novels to buy "My Highland Love" trust me you won't regret it!
I love this story! This book has it all,Highlanders,Intrigue,Revenge,a brave heroine.Elise is in hiding in the highlands, under the protection of the MacGregor clan.Marcus is the brave highlander who is attracted to Elise as soon as they meet. Both Elise and Marcus have secrets they are keeping from the other.Strong storyline, strong characters, love, passion, suspense.A great read.Fans of Scotland will devour this book.
I really loved this book. There is much more here than meets the eye. Great intrigue, mystery and romance. Throw in one determined, hot highlander, a heroine that is no milk water miss, a cast of wonderful supporting characters and you've got a winner.
This is the second book I have read by Tarah Scott (the first one being the second in this series, "My Highland Lord"), and they were both fantastic. I'm on my way to Amazon right now to pick up more of this author's books. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this one! The story line is intriguing and grabs you right from the beginning. It is full of action, a little deceit and mild steam! If you enjoy Highlander stories then you definitely need to add this to you "read" collection.
I think this is one of the best highlander romance I've read in a while. Tarah Scott has a way with words that draws you in and keeps you in the world that she creates. And what a world it is, jam-packed with adventure, murder, revenge, romance, passion, and love. Can't wait to read the next one.
I've read this book a couple times and still find it fascinating. The story goes much deeper than most romances by bringing in intrigue, descent, feud, murder, and unmistakable love.
Elise has lost the only thing that has ever mattered to her. On a ship named after her daughter Amelia she's out to solve the mystery of her illness. That is until her daughter dies on the ship leaving her devastated and with so many unanswered questions. A pawn in a game to control Landon Shipping and Elise's 51% share her husband is out to kill her after poisoning their daughter. On a ship trapped with her husband who is trying to kill her and her brother Steven who will do anything to save his sister after the lost of his niece, a move that lands him shot and dying on the deck of the ship. After shooting her husband, Elise is thrown overboard where she watches her husband die. She washes ashore in the Scottish Highlands and is taken in to recover by a couple. It's here that she becomes close to Cameron and the other members of Brahan Seer where she lies in wait for her moment to exact her revenge against her step father. Trapped in the Scottish Highlands and awaiting the wanted ads for her capture to disappear from the London paper she works as a servant lying in wait hoping no one will discover she's actually Elisabeth Kingston and wanted for murdering her husband.
Marcus MacGregor, Marquess of Ashlund returns to his homeland after his trip to London to discover Travis, Bonnie, and an unknown woman with them. He's surprised to discover that Elise is American and not Scottish. Right from the start, he's fighting his growing attraction toward her. The closer the get to one another the more determined he is to make her his own. But with the treat of the Campbell's constantly invading MacGregor land since Elise has come to stay with them, her attempt to escape to back to Boston become more and more difficult. Questions begin to arise about Elise every time she tries to leave Brahan Seer and Marcus is determined that she not leave and with the support of his father Cameron she is trapped within their walls.
Marcus wants to make Elise his own, not having felt so strongly for a woman his first marriage being a political move. Elise fights her attraction to Marcus in every way she can knowing that leaving him would only break his heart. Even with her attempt to avoid him, their attraction and passion for one another can only be delayed for so long. But when her secrets start to rise to the surface and her loyalty comes into question can she prove to Marcus that she wants a life with him and to finally find happiness in her life?
I loved Marcus. He was loyal, dominant, and caring toward Elise at all times. I have read several Scottish Highland novels, but this one ranks near the top of my favorites. This story was interesting since Elise was always trying to run away from Marcus whenever she could manage to. His passion and loyalty was something to behold and I enjoyed all the characters in this story, I look forward to reading more books in this series in the future, 4 stars.

The first book in the Highland series puts Tarah Scott on my author list. I think I’ve mentioned the author list before, but if you haven’t read about it, I’ll share it here.
The author list is where an author’s name goes when I’ve read their work and liked it enough to buy more of their books. When I start a new book, I automatically buy the next book that I’m going to read. I attempt to read all of a series in order. If I’ve finished a series, or have decided not to continue with it, I will allow myself to be guided through divination on what my next book is. If you want details about how I do the reading, please ask.
I’m curious about how other readers choose which book they’re going to read next. If you’re inclined to share, please do.
In “My Highland Love”, Elise and Marcus have a journey to go on to find their way to each other. Their story is one of passion and personal strength, set mostly in the Scottish highlands in the early 1800’s. I was taken into that story in the way that a good writer can sweep you into the world they’ve written. I think that Elise and Marcus are a good couple and that they answer the question of whether or not this couple can have a believable happily ever after. In my opinion, they can.
Tarah Scott has a flare for descriptive action, and a skilled balance in bringing in the right amount of it. Too little, and you can be bored. Too much and the book becomes tragic beyond believable redemption. I cheered for this couple, urging them on, out loud. Now that’s a good book!
Book: My Highland Love Series: Highland Lords - Book 1 Author: Tarah Scott Genre: Historical Romance Length: Approximately 331 Pages
In MY HIGHLAND LOVE, the first book in the Highland Lords series by TARAH SCOTT, we meet Marcus MacGregor, Marquess of Ashlund, and Elise Kingston, an American heiress that has been shipwrecked and taken in by the MacGregor clan. Elise's story is heartbreaking and one that if she could only trust Marcus with, she would reap the rewards of revenge she so rightly deserves, but keeping her secrets puts the man she grows to love and herself in great peril.
MY HIGHLAND LOVE is so much more than just a historical romance. Besides some pretty breathtaking love scenes that are written beautifully, it's got suspense, thrills and vengeance. Ms. Scott wrote a story that is intricate in its storyline details and beautifully romantic at the same time. Elise's character is strong and bold yet also gentle, nurturing and loving at the same time which I found utterly refreshing.
I enjoyed this book so much, I couldn't wait to read the second book in the series, My Highland Lord. If you enjoy historical romance, if you enjoy a book with a storyline that will have you guessing what on earth is going to happen next, you've just got to pick this book up. It is a very entertaining read.

I was extremely excited to read this book. I love Scottish historical romances. I thought the beginning was good and it seemed promising. However, I was a little let down. I didn't find the chemistry between the hero and heroine to be strong enough. Elise didn't really seem to feel the way he did. She just kind of "accepted" his love.
I didn't feel this strong over connection between the two. One thing I found ridiculous was after Elise lost their baby, Marcus was saying how his wife wouldn't let him touch her and blah blah blah. There was no pity or common sense in that she was drugged, forced really to lose her baby, and eye raped in a mental institution.
It was just ridiculous. I became disappointed about half way through. I didn't see whEre it was going in terms of their relationship. I enjoyed the story outline, I just felt the love aspect was weak. 3 stars though :-)
This was my first from Tarah Scott it was fantasticottish 1821 Scottish Marquess and American lady. Hero is Marquess . Heroine is Elise . This story is full of Mystery, Suspense and love . This is a great story from Tarah Scott. Elise is an American Heiress who her Husband slowly killed their child and once on a ship to England was going to kill her also . Her brother Stephan caught her husband in the act. The ship was caught on fire and Stephan and Elise was on the Top deck when Elise husband came after them . Elise had no choice by to shoot her husband. Elise was thrown overboard by the wind . Elise was washed on land by the sea and ended up by Marcus keep . (Cameron father the Duke ) took her in . Four months later Marcus goes home to Scotland . That is when Marcus spots Elise and he has lustful thoughts . Does Elise tell Marcus she needs to go back to America for revenge . Does Marcus win her hand and heart . Grab this and be so into the story you won't put it down
I love a good historical romance like any other good romantic. This one definitely lives up to any romantics dream. You have a bit of intrigue, really hot highland laird, loss and then of course romance and love. Tarah has written a fantastic story. Marcus MacGregor and Elise Kingston are the perfect couple to fall in love. Marcus is undoubtedly smitten from the time he encounters Elise. But, Elise has secrets that she is trying to hide to protect the new-found home she has come to love. Elise’s independence and forthright attitude is a modern woman in a time and place when those traits are frowned upon. This tale of Highland love between a rough Highland laird and an American rebel is not only an adventure to read but will also allow the reader to experience the emotion on this roller coaster ride of a historical romance.
This is the first book I have read by Tarah Scott, and she did not disappoint! I love this book from the very first few pages! There was a lot of action, romance and intrigue. I loved how feisty the main character, Elise was and how she stood up to anyone for what she thought was right! I loved Marcus, he is a loyal, honest man who fights for those he loves and protects everyone he feels needs protection! Tarah is a very talented writer, she has you on the edge of your seat one minute, laughing the next and either crying with the characters or wanting to throw your e-reader(in my case) the next! I felt as if I was within the story and riding along with the characters on their wild journey! I cannot wait to read the next story to learn more about some of my new favorite characters and find out what life has in store for all of them! Thank you for a wonderful story Tarah!
I read the second book before this one. Let me tell any in advance that this book should be read first. I kept confusing myself with which character was which.
This was a very interesting start to a series. Readers are pulled in and want to help Elise keep her secret. The book takes a few unexpected twist and turns that kept confusing me. Again this is because I read the second book thinking it was the first in the series.
Scott takes readers on a wonderful ride transporting you back to historical Scotland. Scottish brawl and kilts included. A great read I would recommend to anyone who loves historical romance.
My Highland love is the perfect combination of suspense and romance with a fast paced plot that keeps you turning page after page.
I thoroughly enjoy reading historical romance novels and My Highland Love was one story I’ll never forget. It’s incredibly attention grabbing and not your average everyday story. It’s well written, allowing the reader to see through the eyes of the characters from the very beginning.
For those of you who like a combination of sweet and hot romance with a pinch of adventure, passion, revenge, and love thrown in the mix then you should pick up a copy of this book.
