I found this wonderful book at the Williams Public Library. If you’re in any way interested in the early history of Flagstaff, Arizona and Coconino County, or 1880’s pioneer life, this is worth the read (assuming you can even find the book).

Hochderffer starts with his family’s history, followed by the accounts of his life living in Illinois, Kansas and Arizona. From western shootouts to outlaws to ranching to indian wars, I was blown away by the incredible history this man was witness to and apart of. Just as captivating was that he was personally acquainted with men whos names I only knew by the places which inherit their names (like E.A. Baker, John Elden, Ben Doney and C.T. Pulliam).

Even with the occasional grammar and spelling errors, the writing was overall good. The content was compelling, and I thoroughly enjoyed the read, so for that I give it 5/5 stars.
