When Frankie married Tom a year ago, she was determined to give him the perfect life. To be the perfect wife. The perfect mother. The perfect lover. Only things aren’t quite working out the way she planned. Exhausted, stressed, she’s nearing breaking point when she explodes, with painful results.
For her bottom.
Because Tom isn’t about to accept her putting herself in any sort of danger — if he even thinks she’s compromising her safety or health then he won’t hesitate to take his hand to her butt, or his belt or a wooden spoon.
But Tom has issues of his own. An old friend turns up in his life, one he hasn’t spoken to in years, one he still hasn’t forgiven for killing his best friend. Of course, Frankie can’t stand to see her husband in pain and decides to help heal the rift… even though Tom has forbidden her from interfering.
But then Frankie has never claimed to be the most obedient wife.
Contains domestic discipling, spanking and figging. If any of this offends, please don’t buy this book.
Laylah loves reading, but she particularly loves a good romance with some seriously alpha men. Protective, possessive men with large hearts. Writing has become her passion and she hopes her readers enjoy her stories as much as she does writing them.
I get it, it's supposed to be domestic discipline and it's supposed to e fore her good and blah blah blah. But this book just made me more angry than interested. I felt like she was being bullied, not taken care off. I found the punishments unfair and too harsh and Frankie was like in a cage where every time she tried to do something against the 'rules' she'd get punished for it. It's not supposed to be like that. There's supposed to be communication, love, and authority. I didn't feel the communication in their relationship. Overall though, I can't lie and just be biased because of how I viewed and the domestic discipline aspect, it was a well written book.
I loved that the author gave us a gimps into Frankie and Tom's history. Since we had met them in the first book we knew they had history but were not filled in on the details of there past. This book starts off twelve years ago when Frankie was just 16. It was a year after her parents death and she was out of control. Sneaking out with boys and drinking. After getting herself into a situation with a boy and Tom having to rescue her we find out why she acts the way she does and in someways is still acting 16 years later. But we also find out that she has had a crush on Tom since she was little and he was just waiting for her to grow up so they could be together.
Now its a year into there marriage and Frankie's insecurities are out of control due to her not being able to conceive in the year they had been trying. She has never thought she was good enough for Tom and this is just something in her mind that goes to prove it. And as when she was a child when she gets in these moods it makes her act out and do impulsive things that are only going to get her in trouble.
This book was defiantly more on the extreme side of DD but the sex between the two was hot. And we also find out that Tom used to frequent BDSM clubs with his best friend who is dead now and Frankie's brother Brax. There is a side story between Tom and his best friends brother Roarke that was quite interesting.
I hope we get to see Brax's book in the future and maybe even one for Roarke and Sam.
Her Old-fashioned Husband is the third installment in Laylah Roberts’ Old-fashioned series. In it she chronicles the romantic journe of Frankie and Tom. Readers met them in earlier installments as secondary characters. This is a two-prong character driven plot. Each prong is dedicated to each of the lead characters. Both have emotional wounds that make them vulnerable. They’ve loved each other from a young age. Can they find happiness and fulfillment? To find out you must read this book.
As usual, Ms. Roberts does a remarkable job with this old-fashioned romance. The characters are multi-dimensional. Their dialog is outstanding. Their internal monologues reveal their inner emotional turmoil. The descriptive language Ms. Roberts uses paints vibrant scenes like the one in which Frankie exhausts herself swimming and needed to be rescued by Tom. Nicely done, Ms. Roberts.
So, I’m usually a HUGE Laylah Roberts fan. I’ve started with her three Daddy series (MC, Montana, and Harem), and started going back to her earlier works since they’re all interconnected.
This series has already made me raise an eyebrow a time or two, but because we’re dealing with an established lifestyle choice (men are HOH), and an agreement to said lifestyle choice by all those participating, I’ve had to rethink some of my initial reactions to situations. However, this book bridges the male HOH lifestyle with the BDSM dynamic. ((Spoilers beyond this point!!)) That’s why I find the punishments in chapter 12 to be nothing but abuse. For some reason Tom is paranoid about Frankie’s safety here when this is one of the few times she actually looks up information so that she knows what she’s getting herself into. Not once does the author indicate that Frankie is in danger at Indulgence when she goes there on newbie night. And while she is meddling in Tom’s affairs, he has to realize that she has a vested stake in his relationships as his wife. He completely disregards her thoughts and feelings when he confronts her. He doesn’t fully communicate his issues with Frankie nor does he settle the tension between them before he punishes her. In fact, he punishes her while he’s angry and affectively shuts her up when she tries to stick up for herself by threatening to get more angry.
The punishment Frankie receives in chapter 12 isn’t one from their shared male HOH lifestyle, which would be barehanded spanking with belt spanking being the typical “hardball”- it’s from the new BDSM one that they have recently started to explore with each other and entails figging, belt spanking, and caning- altogether a much harder punishment than would be typical for Frankie in any given scenario.
Considering Tom has experience as a Dom, he should know to have discussed limits with Frankie, to have discussed and established safe word protocol with her (he patronizes her when she asks him about safe words in chapter 7, never to mention them again), and to check in with HER about her own well-being when being physically punished. Because none of this was done, when Frankie is begging for the punishment to be over before it is, it reads as abuse. This interpretation is strengthened by the language he uses with her though out the chapter that is laced with victim and slut shaming, his devaluing her thoughts and feelings, and his reverse gaslighting of some “danger” that seems to be lurking wherever Frankie is and he isn’t, further infantilizing his wife.
I’m giving the book a 3/5 rating, which is high considering what I just said about it, because it was still mostly well written and because I have a lot of respect for her recent works- she’s clearly grown as a writer, and I think that’s wonderful.
The whole series was great BUT it needs better editing. It's in Texas but a lot of the saying seem British. Words are missing or wrong. You'll enjoy them just be ready to read corrections into it
Frankie and Tom’s story is heartfelt and deeply relatable. Frankie is a bit of a mess, but she’s Tom’s mess, and he utterly adores her. Despite his love, Frankie struggles with deep insecurities. Losing her parents at 15 left scars she’s never fully healed from, and when combined with her perceived imperfections, it sends her into a spiral.
Tom, recognizing her struggles, decides it’s time to step up and be the husband she truly needs. His unwavering effort to show her just how loved and adored she is was both touching and inspiring.
I connected with this story on a personal level, as I’ve experienced some of the same feelings Frankie has. It’s a beautiful tale of love, understanding, and healing.
I would have liked this better but I find Frankie annoying. She annoyed me in the first 2 books & she was equally, if not more, annoying in this book. She was hard to take in small doses so a whole book, was too much. One thing I'm noticing in this series is all the women get a health crisis like passing out or in this case a fever & she's weak & pale. No explanation for it other than she doesn't take care of herself. She did stupid things - all the time. I just couldn't really enjoy this book that much because of her.
I am unsure of this. I don’t know if this is BDSM or on the line. I don’t think this story has made up its mind. Frankie is stressed, emotional wreck. She has no boundaries and is all over the place. We see when she meets Tom then we are in the present of her being a wife and what that entails. However she is very insecure of her marriage then the story becomes about how the light bdsm fixes their relationship. I’m confused about the beginning of the story of her stressor of wanting to get pregnant. What happened to her? Is she sick?
One of the best discipline themed stories in a while.
This romance was the best. A cast of believable characters I few to know and love. Two lovers who met during a tragedy but it brought them together. It illustrated the perfect yin yang of dominance and submission. And the joy it brought them. I hated to put it down, thinking I might reread it at some point. It’s definitely a favorite!!
This is a peek into Frankie's and Tom's marriage. I find it so admirable of Laylah to choose to develop Frankie's story after her getting married, not an easy task. This is a D/s romance about a couple already made and married, well into 1 year of marriage, who are both struggling with their own insecurities and adjusting to life being unpredictable and fate sometimes overwhelming.
I cannot get enough of this series. I love that the author is updating them. Frankie has known Tom since she was a teenager. She has always wanted to be his wife but puts too much pressure on herself to be perfect. Tom has to take her in hand for her own protection. And then she meets someone from Tom’s past. Wow what an interesting twist in the story. Don’t miss this one.
Overall this book was good, but too many typos. This is Frankie and Toms story. Frankie desperately wants to be pregnant but it isn't happening. She pushes the boundaries Tom has in place for her. Can they work out their problems, can Frankie tow the line. This author is an excellent writer just needs to invest in an editor or Beta readers.
This book was a solid story and had some very interesting elements. The inner workings of a marriage and the elements of light BDSM were enjoyable. I felt myself wanting to know more about the other people in the story and kept seeking something… more. It was good but I feel like it was missing something at the same time.
I loved that we got more into Frankie's, and Tom's marriage. It was easy to see that she had a lot of control issues, and feelings of inadequacy, when pertaining to being Tom's wife. This book, makes you feel sorry for her poor posterior! She earns so many spankings, I felt bad for her. There is a HEA ending though. Trish. A.
Frankie really needs Tom to take a firm hand - while he's away she hangs up on him and won't answer his calls, she causes him to worry needlessly. I found Frankie is alt like me at times, great read.
I really enjoyed this next book in the series! I loved this couple! Tom was the perfect man & husband! Off to read the next book in this so very sexy series!!
Aww I'm so glad it worked out for them. Dont get me wrong I wish the ending had her getting pregnant but still im happy they were able to work everything out. I would definitely recommend this book
Frankie and Tom have been married for a year and she’s still full of so many insecurities. Trying to be the perfect wife she tries so hard that the turbulence gets worse before it gets better. But their love is still strong and enduring.
Like everything I’ve read by Laylah Roberts, I enjoyed this book, especially when they were at the cabin. I still wish we would’ve gotten more of their relationship before they got married, gotten a little more of their history.
Franie e Tom Que porcaria o livro se resume inteiro no marido chato extremamente chato que bate na bunda dela. Não tem romance não tem parte quente é tudo chato que porcaria achei que a Franie merecia mais
