Yet this time, Quinn is back for good. Or so he says. Will this be the start of something special for Kyle and Quinn, or just one more passionate drive down memory lane?

Heidi Champa is a typical last-born child. Snarky, attention-seeking and rebellious, she started to create dirty stories to keep herself out of real trouble. Having tried her hand at a million terrible jobs, she bought herself a laptop and finally started typing up those handwritten tales. After much deliberation, she started to let other people read her work.

In addition to her flare with the written word, she knows every sentence of the movie Clue by heart and bakes a mean Funny Cake. She loves Aussie Rules Football (Go The Cats!!), dancing to bad music and laughing too loud in public. A natural born klutz, she has been known to fall for no reason at all and always has a bruise somewhere on her body. Her life has taken her all over the world, but a piece of her heart will always be in Australia. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband.

She has been published in numerous anthologies including Best Women’s Erotica 2010, Best of Best Women's Erotica 2, Playing With Fire, Frenzy, College Boys, Like Magnets We Attract, Skater Boys and Ultimate Curves. Her first novella, White Out, was published by Amber Allure in August 2010 and her second, All Expenses Paid, was released in June. She has also steamed up the pages of Bust Magazine. If you prefer your erotica in electronic form, she can be found at Clean Sheets, Torquere Press, Ravenous Romance, Oysters and Chocolate, Dreamspinner Press, and The Erotic Woman.

Put it in my to-read shelf at first, but thankfully now I've read some reviews stating this story doesn't have a HEA and is bittersweet. Definitely not for me then, although I usually like this author!

Kyle has spent years waiting for Quinn, his childhood friend and more, and while he only tends to receive crumbles in the form of rare, even yearly visits with a hot encounter or two thrown into the mix, Kyle keeps on waiting and hoping, but also living a life he’s not quite satisfied with on the side.

Although very well written, this short story felt more like a chapter of a novel than a complete work. Coated with despair and bittersweet happiness, it not only left me wanting for more, but also with an unhealthy dose of melancholy. I haven’t noticed if there is a warning somewhere about this being a story without a happy ending, but even if you do find it, take it seriously otherwise you might not finish this on a positive note. The story will only leave you with some vague promise of happiness in a distant future, but even if you disregard that, there should be a cheating label glued to it for those who would rather avoid such books.

The warnings aside, I did enjoy the encounter between the two characters and how the author worked through the anticipation of each action and word. The way Kyle and Quinn missed each other was enhanced with her every sentence and almost from the very start I wished only the best for the guys. The finality of their night together hit me hard and I couldn’t help it but imagine myself in such a situation. It was difficult to relate to either of the characters because there were few reasons or explanations behind their actions, and what little was told didn’t paint them in a pretty light.

Down Memory Lane is just that, one in a row of experiences worth remembering that might or might not lead to something better eventually. If you are ready for the challenge and tired of the classic happily ever after, take a ride with Kyle and Quinn, it just might be your thing.

I have had a very hard time reviewing and rating this story. This is only the second story by this author that I’ve read and I really like the writing. I’m not sure how I feel about the definitely bittersweet content.

This story is told from the Kyle’s point of view and as such, we really see his side of this unconventional relationship. Essentially this story revolves around the occasional visits of Quinn who sweeps into town and whisks Kyle away in his classic restored car to visit the park they frequented as kids and now periodically as adults.

As the story opens Kyle is waiting for Quinn to arrive while his boyfriend has gone out with friends. This time, Quinn has told Kyle that he is going to stay. When Quinn finally arrives, he and Kyle kiss and Kyle gets in the car for their sojourn to the park. It’s like Kyle has no control when it comes to Quinn and he will do whatever Quinn wants.

As they talk and make love at the park, it is evident that Kyle is in love with Quinn and wants a permanent relationship. Where I had some difficulty with the story is the discussion about Kyle’s boyfriend and the status of that relationship. While we never see this boyfriend, he does text Kyle to say that he’ll be home soon which cuts short Kyle and Quinn’s tryst in the park.

In the end, I’m torn about this story. I really liked the writing a lot – very moving. I definitely felt the pain of Kyle in this “limbo” with Quinn. I would really like to read more about these two someday. If you don’t mind a bittersweet ending, this is a well-written short story that you might want to spend some time with.

For a very short story, this is such a complicated relationship. For those who need an HEA, this doesn’t have that, although I so desperately wanted it to be one for Kyle’s sake.

Kyle and Quinn, soul mates? Possibly, but for me it seemed Kyle just wasn’t’ enough for Quinn. I’m not sure that was supposed to be the message, but he isn’t there for Kyle, and nothing Kyle does makes that change through the years. Funny, that Quinn mentions Kyle makes everything more complicated. I didn’t see it that way. Kyle knows what he wants. He wants Quinn. I wanted more for him.

Sort of a difficult book, because they are adults and they are making their own choices, but it seemed so convoluted, their feelings and their actions. I am a fan of Heidi Champa, and she makes you feel for the characters. In this case, I felt sad.
