This one sort of left me going "Huh?". As much as I've enjoyed this series there seems to be a change. Is Abby pursuing her lifelong dream to be a florist or to be a P.I. so she can hangout with her soon-to-be husband more often? It's like she can't have a fulfilling life without working with Marco. I'm missing the point of that shift.
That said, I just didn't get into this book. During the entire story I was wondering what kind of person throws their own bridal shower. The only people I've ever known to do something like that were stars of the defunct television show Bridezilla. Then she's upset with her future mother-in-law over serving food at her shop, but she doesn't seem to want to be there, so why does she care. It just didn't jive with me.
Then the dreaded plot twist ... a note she knows is fake and she goes any way. Foolish girl, why are you doing such stupid things.
Then just when things get really interesting in the past history of Abby and her ex-fiancee Pryce front, we get a wind-up to the story that leaves us hanging. The whole she said/he heard and he said/she heard was pretty darn interesting, but it was left undeveloped.
Hopefully this is just a hiccup and the next story will be back on track, but I didn't find myself warming to Abby much in this one, nor really getting into the story. Figured out the suspect and most of the mystery with the first real clues.

not bad....i'm a little tired of Abby's "control issues", she has great family + in-laws-to-be but always complains---YET; they always bail her out!! How about she allow them "in her life" instead of "just on the outskirts". Like Pryce said, she felt inferior and pushed his parents/family away.

I’ve missed a lot of books in between book 6 A Rose From the Dead, and book 13, Nightshade on Elm Street. This book was a gift, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have continued with this series. I didn't really enjoy the other two books I've read of this series. I chose to read this now for a “light filler” between some other books. I’m not sure calling a book a light filler is much of a compliment, but it served its purpose for me.
I actually liked Abby a lot more in this book than in earlier books I’ve read. She’s not quite as careless anymore, and Marco has done a good job of training her to be a proper detective/PI. I felt for her having to help her ex-fiance find his missing current fiance. Not a very pleasant situation to be in. Another reason I enjoyed this book was because I didn't solve the mystery before Abby did, or not fully. The ending was a bit like a scene from a horror movie, but I didn't mind.
There was something about the atmosphere of this book that I really, really liked. The whole beach house on a lake with all the murder suspects in one place was right up my alley. I found the suspects all really interesting, if not pleasant people to be around. They were all a little strange too. Abby’s cousin Jillian was annoying in a really amusing way, and she really lightened the book up. One thing that really bothered me in the ending was that Jillian never gets around to telling Abby what name she’s chosen for her coming baby. I wanted to know since Jillian spends most of the book making countless failed attempts at thinking of a name that will work with Osborne.
While I was reading this book I happened to discover some nightshade vine growing in my own backyard! That was freaky, and now that I know what it does, it's even freakier. I will definitely be on look out for it growing in my backyard this summer.
I probably won't read more of this series, unless I get another book as a gift. I consider these books a "light filler" between other books, so that's what I'll continue to use them for.

Abby Knight is one busy lady! Running her flower shop, planning a wedding and her bridal shower. Her mom and Marco's mom would love to host the shower but Abby knows exactly what she wants and barring any disasters she is going to get it.
Things are going well until Abby's cousin Jillian makes a request. Abby and her private detective beau, Marco, just have to help find a woman that has gone missing from her in-laws beach house. The woman just happens to be the fiancée of Pryce Osborne, the drip that broke Abby's heart when he dumped her right before their own wedding several years ago. Pryce becomes the number one suspect when a body surfaces. The last place Abby wants to be is anywhere near Pryce but with Marco by her side they can solve this case and she can get back to planning her shower. Icing on the cake would be seeing Pryce behind bars.

I love the the way Kate Collins writes! I finish one story and can't wait for the next one to be released.
These characters are wonderful. In my review of To Catch a Leaf I wrote that Marco's mom Francesca reminded me of my own mom. That feeling continues in this story. She has quickly become a character I want to follow. She has a huge heart and man that lady can cook!
Abby and Marco are the perfect couple and all the supporting characters are strong and continue to grow where they have been planted. Some drive us a little crazy but they are all clever and add so much to each story.
Kate writes a smart mystery with plenty of "red herrings" to keep us guessing. This story is packed with action as well with a truly surprising ending.
This is the 13th book in the series and the author has kept each installment fresh and entertaining and always leaves me wanting more. Kate Collins just keeps getting better and better!!! Fans of the series will already have this one ordered but if the series is new to you or you need to catch up on a couple of the stories I don't know what you are waiting for.

A defining point of this book's hilarious stupidity is the way the populace peopling New Haven go out of their way to torture Abby Knight, the resident heroine. It should have, had this been a saner world, apparent to the Private Investigator Marco that at the climax of each case, his fiancee is always the one targeted. This book was totally fun to read. It was strewn with tidbits that made me think and stroke my chin. I didn't like the absence of Nikki, and her last appearance made me sad because I had nearly overlooked her absence. There is a murder here. It was beyond belief how the leads petered out and how an insane person turned out to be the murderer. There are no more complaints, I love this installment too much to nitpick.

In this entry, Abby and Marco are planning their wedding; the shower mainly. What a hot mess...Abby wants to do all the planning and prep by herself (and she wants a juggler for entertainment).
Out of the blue, a call comes from Pryce (yes, that Pryce of the cancel the engagement to Abby fame). Turns out his most recent fiancee, Melissa, has disappeared. And yes, he broke that engagement (again). He wants Abby and Marco to investigate. When a body is discovered on the beach, could it be Melissa? Is Pryce guilty?
This series just gets better with each installment in the series. I had several laugh out loud moments while reading; I love how Kate Collins can be humorous and it just makes you more endeared to the characters. Abby continues to grow and get over the Pryce thing, although the interaction between the two does stretch her self-control. And speaking of self-control, Abby has a few issues to deal with with Marco's mom and the flower shop.
And at the end, there's an exchange between the two about their broken engagement that perhaps will lead Abby to more self-reflection.
This book was crisp and well written...lots of red herrings to keep things interesting. I definitely will continue the series.

If nothing else, this confirmed that I'm done with this series.
Everyone (with the possible exception of Marco) came across as very juvenile. First there was one character making fun of another's name and just relentlessly calling her Orajel behind her back. Then there was everyone just gossiping endlessly. But far and above, Abby was the worst of them.
She can't handle Jillian's excitement over her pregnancy and has to pop her bubble every time she suggests a name.
She doesn't want help with her shower, but she's not actually doing anything for it herself.
She resents that Marco's mother has shown up at her shop and is actually bringing extra income in for it.
She's just downright unlikeable and I don't know what Marco sees in her (their relationship, too, came across as immature, though that just might because it's coming from her POV.)
Finally, the actual murder makes no sense. It seemed like the book was mostly to resolve her relationship with Pryce and the murder was secondary, the murderer's motive amounting to ~hand wave crazy person~, which is lazy and offensive. I won't be back.

Take a rich mama's boy, a discarded fiance who has successfully picked herself back up, one hot Italian private detective, two smothering mothers, a ditsy fashion-conscious cousin, a missing girl, a bunch of wacky guests, and the parties are on!
What has happened to Melissa? She is allegedly engaged to Pryce Osborne who was previously engaged to Abby, now owner of the flower shop "Bloomers". Abby is now engaged to and assists Marco, the private detective called in to find the missing Melissa.
Jillian, Abby's cousin and coincidentally married to Pryce's much more compassionate younger brother Claymore, pleads the case, and it's off to the upperclass lakeside "cabins" for Abby and Marco. Little do they know just how complicated this case will become.
Kate Collins really has her hands full keeping up with all these fascinating characters, I must say! I always like learning something new, and here I learned flowers and their proponents.
With Abby's bridal shower imminent, her plans are running amok. She wants to put it together herself, and pitted against the formidable group of mother, mother-in-law, cousin and shop staff on one side and a ridiculously complicated (and often drunk) group of misfits on the other side, she can feel the rock and the hard place closing in fast. Only Marco seems calm. There are so many secrets her head is spinning. The investigation even more complicated, with the neighboring elite forever coming and going at the Osborne's large cabin. Did Melissa go to an exclusive resort? Did she remain nearby, perhaps unwillingly? Whose body has washed up at the lake? Just one of many strange happenings.
Everyone is intent on "helping" with her shower, while at the Osborne's, mysteries become more sinister, who will be the next victim? Although there is no “locked door” I am somehow reminded of Agatha Christie. How will everything get accomplished at the shop and a murderer caught in this luxurious vacation spot in such a short time? Suspicions galore, are there no real leads?
Great writing to keep us all guessing, and give us a glimpse of the uber-rich, who surprisingly seem unaffected about the mysteries and victims around them.
I really enjoyed this book, Lots of twists and turns, and a plethora of oddball characters fill out the latter plot while Abby's fiance, cousin, and mothers working in the background bring a surprising sanity in the end. This is #13 in the Flower Shop series, so I may have repeated some parts of Abby's life that appeared in earlier books. I can hardly wait to read another! 4 1/2 stars

I did enjoy this but probably not as much as others in this series. It was still a good read but kind of drug on in places for me. I wouldn't be the least surprised if I loved it after another read which it is worth doing. Loved the engagement party although hated all the stuff about getting ready for it.

I love Marco and Abby! This was another great adventure with them, this time helping out Abby's ex-fiancé Pryce. The usual chaos ensues both with the case and with everyone down at Bloomer's. Abby was kind of annoying with how she had to control everything. I get where she was coming from but she went overboard. Good mystery and I didn't quite see the culprit coming. #readforkimberly

Abby's former fiancé, Pryce Osbourne, has a new fiancée, Melissa, who is missing from his family's lakeside "cottage" after Pryce called off their engagement. (Later in the book Pryce has a twisted view of his breakup with Abby.) Marco and Abby are brought in to see if they can locate Melissa. Along with the strange and haughty neighbors, Halston and Orabelle Burch, there are two other guests who are staying with Pryce, the married couple Jake and Lily. Seems Lily was Pryce's first college love, and possibly his current one, but nothing is confirmed in the book.
Orabelle thinks Lily has stolen her expensive "timepiece", however later it comes out Halston has given it to Melissa. She seems like a bit of a gold digger. Eventually Lily is found dead down at Pryce's dock, Melissa decides to come back to the cottage, and Orabelle serves Abby a poisoned cocktail. Fortunately she isn't given a lethal dose, and throws up twice and then jumps into the lake which helps her get away from a knife-wielding Orabelle. Pryce comes to her rescue in a rowboat. Marco gets there just in time.
Good story but near the end Abby starts hearing a voice telling her to get away, and someone wearing a red coat. It must be the angel from another book, even though it's not stated in the book. I hope this series doesn't continue with the "angel voice". The other thing that made my eyes roll was when Grace quotes "judge" Clarence Thomas. Ugh! But I'll keep my views on him private.

I am a staunch defender of the so called "cozy mystery". They are often derided and looked down upon by the wider literary community, but I think they can be funny, charming, comforting, and very imaginative.
This is my first outing with this series, picked up on a whim at a thrift store (I think the title grabbed me), and I cant say that I'll be spending too much more time in this series.
Perhaps it's just the internal pressures of this particular novel (an upcoming bridal shower), but I found the lead to be behaving in a very juvinile fashion, whining and complaining and being mean to people who were trying to help her. She and her fiancee keep complaining about their respective families, and when we meet those families, they are either lovely and supportive, or your run of the mill wacky, with no malice behind their actions.
And the mystery. Sigh. When the answer for the killers motivations are "they're nuts", well, thats enough to set a mystery lovers teeth on edge.
I can't say I'll never pick up one of these again- sometimes you just hit an off note in the series, but I'm not in a hurry.

LOVED this book
Planning a wedding, running 2 business both Abby and Marco and dealing with 2 mothers who want to host an elaborate shower they definitely have their plates full. But of course that's not all happening because upon Jillian who"s Abby's cousin persistence Abby and Marco are asked to look for Abby's ex-fiances girlfriend who disappeared after being told wedding is off.
Abby is not amused she was in that same spot and finds this utterly ridiculous. Then the missing ex-fiance appears and a body appears on the cottage property of Abby's ex-fiance. Jillian is again my favorite and especially in this one being pregnant hiding but no hiding it. I wished there was a real life Jillian and she was my cousin!

I really enjoyed this book! This series was kind of hit or miss for me in the beginning but it's really gotten good over the last few books. There was a lot of humor, a little romance, and there were some not-so-loose ends that got tied up in a way I thought was really great considering Abby's upcoming wedding. We get a bit of a glimpse at what Abby's life might have been like if she'd married Pryce and I think we can all agree it wouldn't have made her happy (and isn't really making anyone else happy either). The lakeside setting was a neat addition, still in New Chapel but some new scenery. The cast of characters were perfectly suspicious and I'd have loved to pin the murder on any one of them. Overall a great read! I'm sad that I have so few books left to read in this series!

Another pretty good Abby and Marco mystery. We're getting closer to an actual wedding, maybe. I liked the fact that Abby finally got some closure on her breakup with Pryce. Lot of funny moments with Jillian, but maybe not enough of her mother and her crazy art projects. I didn't guess the "bad guy" at all in this one.

Good writing, good plot, and delightful touches of humor. How to find a name for a baby that won't result in unfortunate references, like Izzy Osbourne, or teasable initials, like P.O.O. (My sis lucked out with initials of RED. )

This one is heavy on relationships, party planning and murder, very light on Abby's Flowershop. Many of the characters show different sides to their personalities, fleshing (and rounding) them out more. It was a good -multiple- whodunit.

I love this series, but this mystery was a little weak. The big reveal at the end felt rushed and unexplained. I was a little disappointed with the end, but the characters were as charming and loveable as ever!

I really liked this book in the series. I was so wrong in who the killer was. Jillian and the Osborne clan live lives that are so ridiculous.

This book was a little bit of an upset compared to the previous ones. I’ve really enjoyed this series, but this story fell flat for me. Honestly Abby kind of got on my nerves throughout, but I enjoyed the mystery side of it.
