Ashea Goldson, a native NewYorker and Metro Atlanta transplant, is a multi-published Bestselling author and indie screenwriter, who has frequently been called a “kingdom writer.” Having a vivid imagination which always connected her to reading, writing, and storytelling from an early age, Ashea began her publishing career by writing for high school and college publications. Soon afterwards she received a BA in Communications from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. She also later graduated Magna cum laude and earned an MA degree in English /Secondary Teacher Education from The University of Phoenix.
Although she has been an English teacher and advocate of literacy for over twenty years, when she is not in the classroom, she transforms herself into writer extraordinaire;it is then that she is able to fully indulge in her creative passions. As a Christian fiction novelist since 2008, Ashea has written many traditionally published works including The Lovechild, Joy Comes In The Morning, Count It All Joy, Let Joy Arise, Scorched, and When Kingdom Comes which were all released by Kensington Publishers. After writing numerous stage plays and skits for various events over the years, in 2009 she also wrote and produced her first film, Searching For The Right Thing and her first short film, pieces From The Bottom. Her greatest strength is the ability to create flawed characters, who while having ordinary challenges, are able to experience extraordinary victories; this allows for an inspirational yet relatable message. Additionally, she has been a powerhouse of characterization, spinning webs of mind numbing tales which pull the readers in by the heart strings.
Yet Ashea’s writing skills do not end here. Ghostwriting has been equally as fulfilling; she has been able to use her immense imagination to transform her client’s voice and vision into a literary reality. She has written for the following genres: Christian fiction, Urban Fiction, Ethnic Fiction,Women’s Fiction, Romance, young adult fiction, and Memoir., and has delivered breathtaking manuscripts to anonymous clients all around the country.
She is currently working on a series of childrens books, and a reading podcast among other independent projects.

I picked this book up because the cover caught my eye and because the summary on the back cover caught my attention.

Nila and Malcolm couldn't be more different if they tried. Nila is a product of a culture that doesn't value her gender and that does its best to "keep her in her place" so to speak. Despite the culturally imposed limitations she faces, Nila still aspires to be more than she's told she can be. She went to college in the United States, but had to return home before graduation to marry the man her father chose for her. Now widowed under tragic circumstances, she takes a job dancing in a bar to support her two year old daughter.

Malcolm has every advantage at his fingertips and is determined to live life on his terms, to make lots of money and live a lavish lifestyle filled with a variety of women. His current path brings him to India, where he is convinced he will take the first steps toward being the "big baller and shot caller" he aspires to become.

Nila recognizes Malcolm when he and some friends come to her job to relax. Malcolm also recognizes Nila as the girl he befriended in college and can't help but talk to her. From then on, despite his desire to live footloose and fancy free, he finds himself drawn to help Nila any way he can. When she shares her problems with him, he tries to help.

I enjoyed seeing the differences and similarities that both divide Nila and Malcolm and draw them together. Each of them has to deal with their different approaches to pursuing their hopes and dreams, and to see what God has to do with it. Nila's character was far more developed than Malcolm's, but I saw enough of him to realize what drove him to where he was when Nila came back into his life and why he made the choices he did, when he made them.

This was an intriguing story, opening up a different culture and world for me with the main character being Hindi. Nila's struggles seemed impossible to overcome however Ashea Goldson showed that God's love and restoring power reigns even in non-Christian cultures. Completely enjoyed this book and will be adding more of her work to my reading list.

This book I've had for a while, but just recently read it for a book club online discussion. I've always had a thing for Christian Fiction, and this one did not disappoint. Because of this author and story, I was able to learn about another country that I would not have known about. Great story and very informative.
