Charles Monroe Sheldon was an American minister in the Congregational churches and leader of the Social Gospel movement.
His novel, In His Steps, introduced the principle of "What Would Jesus Do?" which articulated an approach to Christian theology that became popular at the turn of the 20th Century and had a revival almost one hundred years later.
After reading this book, I appreciate so much more the sacrifices made to bring the Gospel to the old West. I better understand prohibition and the heartbreak of ruined lives due to alcohol and the strength and conviction it takes to make a moral stand against such things. The author was a wonderful, godly man.
I read Born to Serve by this author, and enjoyed it very much. This book was equally enjoyable, with a similar message about loving the people God puts in our lives and how we can influence them for his good. A truly delightful story.
I'm trying to read all of this authors books. They are old fashioned Christian books. Much as it was when I was a girl. If you enjoy Grace Livingston Hill you will surely enjoy Charles M. Sheldon's books.
