Joie and her friends are continuing to follow the Grimm Brother’s Band across their countrywide tour. They thought the worst was behind them but they had no idea that things were just getting started. Terrorists’ bombings call for all entertainment venues to be on high alert. With all of the new staff and crew members, the band finds it hard to know who to trust. Meanwhile things begin to heat up between Joie and Hawkins in and out of the bedroom when an ex-fiancé suddenly shows up on the scene but the real surprise has yet to come. If the band wants to continue on the tour, they must figure out who is really behind it all before time runs out…
An Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Graduate who once spent years drawing imaginary worlds and now writes about them with her sister, Megan Summers.
Can I just say how much I ❤ Hawkins. *sigh* When the lovely and talented Leah emailed me and asked if i would be interested in reviewing a copy I was all HELL YEAH!
Time Out starts a few weeks after Foolish Games ends. Joie and Hawkins are going strong in their new relationship. Right off the bat, the drama starts when the ex shows up. Gwen She just makes you want to rip her hair out. But Joie isn't one to roll over and let her walk all over her. There is more drama centered around the band and Joie somehow ends up in the middle again.
When Hawkins expresses his love for Joie....ahhhhh
I never felt like the characters were any different then they were in book one. They were the same...loyal, fierce and totally dedicated to Joie. And I adore Riley, he NEEDS his own story!!
You need to read this book. ITs worth 10 stars! And the ending
By love we’ll beat back the pain we’ve found You know I mean to tell you all the things I’ve been thinking deep inside My friend With each moment the more I love you ~ “Crush” by the Dave Matthews Band
I was super excited to find out that the author was releasing a sequel to Foolish Games. I was even more excited, and honored, that the Ms. Leah Spiegel herself offered me a copy. So first off: Thank you, Leah! So it’s safe to assume that I was one happy camper when I started to dive into Joie and Hawkins’ world again.
Okay, before I say anything about the story, I HAVE to say something about Hawkins.
♥♥Hawkins, Hawkins, Hawkins♥♥ How much do I love thee? From zero to ten, ten being I’m utterly in love with you…my answer is: Infinity. Yea, that’s right. My love cannot be measured. It’s just too much. I LOVE YOU!
Alright, now that I have that out, onward…
Foolish Games is one of my favorite YA stories. If you haven’t read it, grab it now before continuing with this. This story picks up a little after Foolish Games ends. Joie and Hawkins are going strong, that is until Hawkins’ ex-fiancé, Gwyneth, comes back into the picture. Obviously, I automatically hate this chick. Then the more I read, I start to really loathe her.
Along with the blonde B from the abyss, a terrorist threat is pounding at their arena door. The band is in danger (again) and after what happened in the first book, everyone is on edge. After Joie gets dangerously close to losing her life, Hawkins goes to the extreme to keep her safe. But is sending her away really the way to keep her out of harms way? With the strain of the eminent threat, as well as Gwyneth gunning for Hawkins, Joie is not too thrilled with Hawkins’ decision. How is this going to affect their relationship?
I really enjoyed this sequel, but I didn’t love it as much as Foolish Games. Hawkins is still amazing, but some of things Joie did got on my nerves. Seriously. If you’re dating the hot rock star, why on earth would you ever ignore his texts and calls? Better yet, how in the world do you not have your cell, and your all access backstage pass, on you at all times? You know security is tight and not everyone knows you, so why take the risk. I don’t know. Just little things like that made me roll my eyes and sigh in frustration. In addition, I wish this book had some steam. Denying me some Hawkins’ love is just cruel. lol. So aside from these minor infractions, I was thrilled to dive into this world again and hope there will be more Hawkins in the future. :)
This was an okay sequel. I was hoping for more. I was disppointed in Hawkins' behavior. He seemed a little too passive with regards to handling his ex-fiance and then his sympathy with what happened to Joie
There was no groveling. Sorry I like a man who has to grovel for forgiveness. Hawkins said he had no clue about his ex's deviant behavior, but I call bulls**t. Sure he said that his ex was not that great to date, but he had to know that having Gwyneth on the bus was hurting Joie.
I loved the first book in the series and will read more by this author.
Anyway, it would have been great with all the drama and suspense if the hero did not appear so passive. I did not feel the love in this book between the characters like I did in the first book.
When I found out there was going to be a sequel to Foolish Games I nearly flipped out because I loved Foolish Games . J.T. Hawkins was even one of my book boyfriends. You never know about sequels sometimes they can be great and others well.... With Time Out I was NOT disappointed.
J.T is still hot and smoldering and loving. *Sigh* but poor Joie who seems to have the worst luck ever. She is like a magnet for if the worst possible thing could happen to you then Joie is your girl. But she is a survivor and it just makes her more loveable.
Let's talk about Joie's friends. I loved Riley in the first book and second book but in the first I thought Lizzy was quite the beotch. Thank goodness she cleaned up her act and became what a friend should be but she did pass her past trophy to Gweniverie. Now she made Lizzy look like a saint.
The ending was great. I super recommend this series because it has love, mystery, suspense and just great dialogue.
Here are some of examples of why I love J.T. Hawkins so:
"I thought I was protecting you, making you more vulnerable. I had just lost a close friend and I couldn't bear the thought of losing you too. You mean everything to me." His blue eyes pleaded for me to understand.
"Joie," he reached a hand down to gently lift my chin until our eyes were leveled with each other. "I don't know what made you think you had to change your look, but I hope it wasn't for me, because I've never seen you look more beautiful than when you're in these clothes."
Okay this book was just AMAZING!!!! I loved it soooo much. I am so thankful to receive an ARC from Mrs. Spiegel!!!!
I have now read 5 of her books and with each one they get better and better, I don't know how she does it. I loved Hawkins and Joie sooooo much and all their friends.
What I like most about Foolish Games and Time Out is that the books are romance mixed with suspense. It makes the book that much better.
Joie and Hawkins are still going strong and she is still on tour with them. From the very begining of the book (love that it gets straight into the drama) Joie run into a beautiful blond (since we all know Hawkins prefers blonds :0)) in the elevator who immediately assumes she is there for Warren. Turns out she is Warren's sister Gwyneth, oh and also Hawkin's ex-fiancee.
From the minute they met they didn't like one another. Then there is news of a bombing at a venue The Grimm Brothers were suppose to play at but had cancelled. From there a few other events take place that makes Hawkins fear from Joie's safety.
I don't want to give to much away because everyone should read this book. But trust me when I say it DOESN'T disappoint!!!! There is a little shock at the end that I hope means there may be another book!!!!! I would be ecstatic if there is!!!!
Time Out is the sequel to Foolish Games. We continue to follow Joie and her friends who are on tour with the band, the Grimm Brothers Band. Joie and Hawkins have gotten even closer after their major brush with death. Joie thinks the worst thing she has to worry about now is how to convince people she and Hawkins are a couple and she isn't just some plain-Jane fan. And she has to deal with Hawkins' ex-fiance. On top of all that, terrorists attacks are hitting way too close to home and it seems they are getting too close to the band.
Wow, what a sequel this was. This was even better than the first one. Joie and Hawkins have grown so well together in such a short amount of time. I love them together. Oh how much I love Hawkins. He is book boyfriend worthy. Joie has great taste. Then we have Riley who still is the best character ever. I love the relationship brewing between him and Harlow. Harlow is slowly breaking out of his shell because of Riley since he isn't officially out of the closet yet. Most shocking of all was Lizzie. I couldn't her in Foolish Games. She wasn't just self-absorbed, she was the queen b***h. I mentioned how I couldn't even understand how Joie was friends with her so long. But Lizzie was actually great in this book. She does have her moments for sure though, nothing like how bad it was in the first book. But she makes up for it when we meet Gwen. Gwen is Hawkins ex-fiance and she has come to stir a lot of stuff up. A lot more than you could imagine really. Lizzie does a great job sticking up for Joie when Gwen is around.
The plot in this book was just amazing. I love how much bigger Spiegel and Summers made this story. In Foolish Games, we had someone terrorizing the band. This time around, things are much worse. Terrorists have been attacking venues that would be normally used by the Grimm Brothers Band. When an attack hits close to home, they are visited by the FBI. But something may or may not be wrong concerning agent Vance. And the immense danger of what is happening threatens to drive a wedge between Joie and Hawkins.
I enjoyed this book so much. The only complaint I have is that there were times when Joie's insecurities made me mad. She lets Gwen's spitefulness drive her crazy and over the edge at times. One of the things I loved about Joie was how at ease she was with herself. She let the success of Gwen drag her down. So she was a bit annoying at times in that aspect. But she still has a lot of backbone. We see that after the grocery shopping scene. I can't say what happens, but she is a smart girl and it shows.
This was a great sequel. I am so in love with this series. The story is out of this world. I love the climax at the end, I did not see that coming at all. It was epic to say the least. The very end of this book was very shocking. Oh, I want to know where this is going. Joie and Hawkins have a lot of work to do, but I love that they will do it together. If you want an exciting and thrilling YA series, this is the perfect choice.
warning: this review has a lot of potential for supreme fan girl gushing
Leah Spiegel has become one of my most favorite authors with her Foolish Games YA/New Adult books. I'm pretty sure that I loved Time Out even more than Foolish Games. Right away I was yelling "no! no, no, no! Joie and Hawkins don't need any more complications!!!" I guess I was wrong though because the complications were vast and I loved every minute of it. Really, I'm not exaggerating. Every. Single. Minute.
Time Out pretty much starts off right where Foolish Games ends so we've gotten to know all of the characters and have already fallen in love with them. This allowed for the story to get right to it and to quickly suck you in. Luckily I started this book on my vacation because there was no way I could put it down once I started reading.
I love how Spiegel writes a book that has it all. Drama, Romance, Mystery, and Suspense! Hawkins and Joie's sexual tensions are as hot as ever. Joie is such a great female protagonist, she's tough, snarky, and loyal to a fault. Hawkins, Hawkins, Hawkins, oh what can I say about sexy sexy Hawkins, I'm so totally in love with Hawkins! Yeah, he makes some dumb decisions but he always seems to make them in the name of love. How can you not love a guy that just wants his girl to be safe. Sexy Sigh!
Another thing that I love about the Foolish Games books are the amazing side characters. The building romance between Riley and a certain someone (no spoilers) is a great addition to the story and I really hope we get to see more of it in the next book. Yep, you heard me, I heard from a very reliable source that there will indeed be another book! Squeal!!!! Lizzie's character was toned down a bit and I'm not sure if I'm glad of that or not but I'm looking forward to where the story is heading for her as well. Obviously I can't wait to read book 3!
Plot: Contemporary perfection
Characters: Perfectly flawed and wonderfully written Writing: So much fun to get totally lost in Ending: Wraps up the current situation while setting things up for future wonderfulness Overall: Really, what else can I possibly gush on about. Spiegel writes a gripping romantic tale with hot rock stars, a beautiful gay best friend, and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Yeah, ok it's official I've definitely gushed enough about this one. Mature Content:The characters in this book are out of high school so the situations are definitely a bit older than the average YA contemporary. However, the sexual scenes while hot are not graphic at all.
Recommendation: If you are loving the New Adult contemporaries the way I am then I highly recommend The Foolish Games books.
After reading Foolish Games I honestly assumed I wouldn’t read the second book anymore. I love the first book but I just thought that that was it for Joie and Hawkins’ story for me. The thing is however, I ended up reading Time Out ‘cause it just intrigues me. Reading Leah Spiegel’s Foolish Games feels a lot like Ally Carter meets The Fast and the Furious. I have no idea if that comparison is true enough but that’s exactly how I feel.
Time Out is as good and as action-packed and thrilling. We get the same quirky, upbeat, unpredictable characters with a few new additions who would keep you guessing and make you love and hate them at the same time.
Ms. Leah definitely upped the ante in this book. With a lot of surprising twists, Time Out is packed with more mystery, more action, more danger, more drama (okay maybe just a bit), more romance and more Hawkins and Joie moments. I can’t seem to get enough of those two. They’ll make you feel frustrated, giddy, happy and just about wanting for more. Their relationship has grown stronger from the first time we’ve seen them and with Hawkins’ ex-fiancé showing up unannounced Joie’s world is about to get rocky. Not to mention the aforementioned ex seems to be hiding something. I adore Hawkins even more in this book. He’s proving himself to be the opposite of being the playboy everyone assumes him to be. He’s sincerely sweet and still protective of Joie and we’ll get to know more about him in this book. He does things that would really surprise you and sweep you off your feet. Did I mention he just got hotter? Granted he’s a rockstar so that fact alone makes him hot. But Hawkins is just the romantic kind of guy who doesn’t say much but proves himself to you with the actions he does. And that ending? Now that’s something you wouldn’t want to miss.
A fun and easy read - Time Out is definitely a sequel worth reading. If you’ve started out reading book one and is now having doubts about reading Time Out, I tell you, you must.
In Foolish Games, she meets rock star JT Hawkins in an elevator where he insults her by saying he prefers blondes and she retaliates by taking his ego down a few notches. In Time Out, it's been a few weeks since the first book and Joie & friends are still on the road with The Grimms Brothers Band. Joie is on her way up to see her boyfriend when a beautiful blonde steps in the elevator, headed to the same destination. Who is Gwen Warren and what is she doing coming up to JT Hawkins' suite? Well, it turns out she's Warren's sister, a doctor who works in third world countries... and Hawkins' ex-fiance.
Gwen was the Lizzie of this book for me. I couldn't stand her, she did a lot of nasty things to Joie. Even in the end when she tries to redeem herself, I didn't like her. Lizzie, however, moved up quite a bit in my book. I can see why Joie and Riley were such good friends with her. She can be really self-absorbed but she loves her friends and she's protective of them. Riley is still a favorite of mine. I wish he was my BFF :)
And Hawkins... I loved every page he was on, which didn't feel like enough! He is this 6'3 hot rock star who truly loves Joie for who she is, pink sweats and all. He is so sweet and devoted to her. *Dreamy sigh* Joie, who I really liked in the first book, annoyed me a bit in this one. Like not telling Hawkins about Gwen (trying to leave her behind, the slap), and her insecurities (especially with the appearance of his ex) since what I love about Joie is how comfortable she is in her own skin.
Overall, I really enjoyed Time Out. It was a fun, easy read and I liked the twists in this book. I wish it was longer, though! I don't know what I'm going to do until the next one comes out!
Time Out is the sequel to Foolish Games and it is great! I'm very glad that a sequel was even made and third book as well, because I had no idea that Foolish Games was a series! Time out was lacking something that I loved from Foolish Games, but other things replaced it, so it balanced out, but I saying that now I liked Foolish Games more than Time Out! They are both really cute and great books! But Foolish Games had more of that banter between Hawkins and Joie, which I absolutely loved! There fighting was hysterical to me! Time out had some amazing stuff too like the whole drama with Gwyneth was great, even though I hated her! Lizzie and Riley were oh so great in this book, and they were the comedic relief for me in this novel. :) Hawkins was just awesome..especially when he was on stage. *drool* <3 I would totally follow this band around, like I picture them in my head and just want to stalk them like some creeper ! Anyways Time Out was a great sequel to Foolish Games and I was so happy to get more of Joie's and Hawkins story, and now time to read The Wedding Blitz. So i can get more of these characters, because when I finished this book, MORE, was literally the word that popped into my head. There is something about these characters that just makes you want to read more about them. So obviously check this series out!
This review focuses on the first two books in the Foolish Games series. I ended up reading all three books in one day so it all blends together for me.
I really wanted to love this series and if it weren't for Hawkins (our hero) I probably would have given up partway through.
I always love rock star books and that is what originally grabbed my attention in the first place. I was also intrigued with the "marketing scam" part of the first book where Joie and Hawkins snarkily blog and tweet back and forth. This created some pretty amusing interactions that were the highlights of the whole series for me.
Unfortunately, those few good moments were not nearly enough to overlook everything else. There were numerous typos (ridged does NOT equal rigid!) and I just could not handle how unrealistic the characters were in their reactions to very serious events. Yeah sure, I don't like it when characters mope and moan for chapters on end about a hang-nail. However, I think that a little post-trauma-drama is allowed when the situation calls for it.
Even more unbelievable than the first one but I had to read it to find out more about the characters I loved from the first book. I was a bit disappointed in the end though. It was as if the story just abruptly ended, I actually had to do a double take because I thought somehow something had happened to my kindle.
I assume there will be a third book and I know I will have to read that one as well to find out how things end up with the characters. There were plenty of loose ends at the end of this book so I am sure there will be lots of material for another sequel.
I have to ask though, what's left? After serial killer/stalker psychopaths and terrorists, who could possibly come after the band next?
Mediocre, when compared to Foolish Games, and it breaks my heart to say that, because Foolish Games was so, so good. I just felt that everyone felt out of character in Out of Time. Suddenly Joie is telling Lizzie to go for the rockstar, rather than the boyfriend we'd been told she loved before? And Lizzie is suddenly BFFs with Joie (I can sorta get that, after what happened in FG, but still. Weird. Also, mentions of her doing that in high school - what?!); I felt that Joie lost so much of her spunk, expect for that part where she ran after Gwen, or whatever her name was. Still, a pretty good plot. Just don't expect anything on the same level as Foolish Games :(
I don't know what is wrong with me. On paper, this book is everything I hate. Hard to grasp, almost laughable, story lines, A typical ugly girl but hot god-like guy romance. Friends who aren't friends but you decide to ignore their bitchy qualities, and the fact they publically humiliated you, in the name of "friendship".
Also, how many times can one person be abducted, attacked and threatened?
BUT, I really don't care. I liked it, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.
I felt the same way I did about the first book. Lacked suspense in certain parts and at times became tedious and somewhat boring. It was still an okay read, which is why I gave it 3 stars. But I have decided that I'm not going to read the 3rd one. Which should say something, because it didn't leave me wanting more. I don't think it would be worth paying for. If it were free? Then yes, maybe I would read it. But the next one is 3.99... no thanks
Unbelievably awesome!!! Time Out is the perfect follow-up to Foolish Games and I couldn't get enough of the hotter than hot Hawkins and the feisty Joie! I have to say that the ending is perfect and I was left with a racing heart and a sigh of pleasure! Leah Spiegel and Megan Summers are an amazing and mind-blowing YA writing team! LOVE them!!!!! Full review coming soon!
2.5 stars. This book is waaaaay short and yes, the story is a bit unbelievable (with the terrorists and all). Wasn't bad; just wasn't that great. Still, the writing was good and I'll keep reading the series. If you don't mind stories that might be a little over the top, then read this because you will probably like it.
Loved it as much as book 1, and it pretty started where book 1 ended. I can't enough of Joie, Hawkins, Riley, Lizzie etc., I wish the book was longer because I love all them and their story.
This is why I hate reading sequels to books cause they never measure up to the first one, Luckily it was short. the plot was a little unbelievable. should of just ended with the first one coz I loved that one.
A much better book than the first and much better book cover. I loved how easily it flowed from book 1 to this one and loved the story twists in this one. Definitely love the way this author writes.
loved it! everyone needs to read these books! the characters are so well written and you both love and hate them and their dynamics. most enjoyable read, had heartache, humour, and twists galore!! recommend these books 100%
If this didn't have the cliché gay best friend and the tossed in immorality, this might be really fun. But as it is? No thanks. Really, just because everyone else writes about trash, and gays currently have a lot of publicity, these aren't good reasons to destroy your own writing! *Tears hair*
Omg! This book was so good. Hawkins is my dream boyfriend! I don't think my husband will mind! Lol ;) I really hope a third is coming, please please please!!!!
I didn't think the book needed all the terrorist drama. These characters were awesome from the first book. I hope the next book in this series is just about them.
