(Applause Books). Marowitz examines every aspect of contemporary theatre practice including auditions, first-readings, the rehearsal process, classical techniques and performance art. He delves beyond sub-text, probing the labyrinth that exists beneath conventional psychology. Marowitz comes up with a tantalizing new brew of ideas with which actors and directors can ply their craft into the new millennium.
this is an excellent (justifiably brief) essay on recent theories of acting and directing practice, with marowitz's suggestions and exercises for taking the whole process to the next level. i might have given the book a higher rating, if it wasn't so maddeningly punctuated. there seemed to be more than a few spelling errors, too. in any case, if you are interested in taking a sideways look at the craft of acting or directing, this will be of interest to you.
