Parke Godwin was an American writer known for his lyrical yet precise prose style and sardonic humor. He was also known for his novels of legendary figures placed in realistic historical settings; his retelling of the Arthur legend (Firelord in 1980, Beloved Exile in 1984, and The Last Rainbow in 1985) is set in the 5th century during the collapse of the Roman empire, and his reinterpretation of Robin Hood (Sherwood, 1991, and Robin and the King, 1993) takes place during the Norman conquest and features kings William the Conqueror and William Rufus as major characters. His other well-known works include Waiting For The Galactic Bus (1988) and its sequel The Snake Oil Wars (1989), humorous critiques of American pop culture and religion.
Parke Godwin also worked as a radio operator, a research technician, a professional actor, an advertising man, a dishwasher and a maitre d' hotel.
Godwin's short fiction has appeared in several anthologies. His short story "Influencing the Hell out of Time and Teresa Golowitz," was the basis of an episode of the television series The Twilight Zone.
The power of friendship really shines through in this fourth installment. We're learning more about Meridian's lore. It's exciting. #3 felt transitional, and #4 feels like the moment before a big rollercoaster drop.
I don't exactly hate this... it's a good plot device for breaking up the party... but Will has a very unreasonable mother. Every time Will tries to do something independent, be it a swim meet or a concert, her mom immediately finds a reason to shut it down. I hate her mother. But I love stories where children must deal with unreasonable adults. Will's mom and Mr. Carson are a match made in Hell.
I really enjoyed this one! Romance, friendship, and action!
Will and Matt (the boy in the band whose grandfather runs a pet shop that Will works at). Taranee and Nigel (the boy who is in the gang that is mean to the girls but he always stands up for them). Cornelia and her mystery dream boy who turns out to be Caleb the leader of the rebellion in Meridian. He turns her tear into a flower and tells her he promises they will see eachother again.
Cornelia and Elyon’s friendship is explored. We find out they were best friends before they became guardians and she misses that friendship. She doesn’t believe Elyon is evil and thinks she can be saved. She goes to Meridian to seek her out. She saves Elyon who is exploring the town and the people. They cause an earthquake trying to escape the guards. Caleb explains to them that Elyon is the rightful heir of Meridian. She is now the face of the rebellion. Phobos is a tyrant and has stolen the light from their world. (Phobos also mentions absorbing Meridian’s power and he wants to absorb Elyon once she’s come into her powers completely). Elyon meets her mother in a dream world and she tells her that Meridian has always been ruled by Queens and she should take her rightful place and restore her kingdom. Meridian’s people are living in poverty. Cornelia wants the guardians to help Elyon and save the people of Meridian from Phobos. They aren’t sure that is their job. Elyon goes back to the castle and is confused if she should trust Caleb or Phobos. She goes to meet her adoptive parents who are in the Meridian jail. They tell her not to trust Phobos and that they only took her away so she could grow up normal.
Cedric has one more chance to prove himself to Phobos or he will destroy him. He is to lead the rebels into the human world. He disguises himself as a man called Raven. He opens a portal beneath the concert that most of the guardians attend. Will goes to investigate and her dormouse runs through the portal. She chases him into a black rose bush. She gets pricked. When she wakes, a man named Daltar, the Meridian palace gardener tells her a story of Phobos demanding him to create the black roses as a barrier between the castle and Meridian. He refuses. Phobos took his daughter and wife and turned them into black roses and anyone that touches them turns into one of them. He was surprised Will didn’t turn into a black rose. He takes care of them but doesn’t remember which ones are his family! (Sad). He helps her escape and she helps Caleb and Vathek stop the rebellion from entering Earth. Will gets into a fight with Cedric in the human world during the concert. The guardians come and help her. Cedric runs away. They all agree that they will help the people of Meridian. Woo hoo!

I will give this book a 3 because the book is okay. What I liked about this book was how two ex best friends forgave each other from their mistakes and became friends again. That happened to me and we forgave each other. What i really didn't like about this book is how the scenes from different dimensions changed frequently and it really confused me.
W.I.T.C.H. is originally a t.v. show. The first episode that I read was the first one. Will works in a shop with a boy that she is interested in. She had to take over. A customer comes in and ask for the boy that she likes. Then gives her a note to give to him. Meanwhile, Corneila is thinking about the friendship in the past that she had with Elyon (who is now the princess of Meridian). They used to be the best of friends until Phobos took her to Meridian. Also Taranee is going on a date with a boy she likes. Meanwhile, Hay Lin and Irma are hanging out trying to see who Taranee is going out with. Corneila decides to go to Meridian to try to fix up her relationship with Elyon. Though she knows that she can't go by herself. She believes doesn't have enough power. Before, when Corneila and Elyon were friends, Cornelia had a dream about her dream about her dream boyfriend. Later on in Meridian she finally meets him, like how Elyon promises. Later on, the other friends find out that there has been a portal left open to Meridian. So they go and see who it was that left it open, though they still think that Corneila did it. Which is true.
I give it five mostly for nostalgia value. This is my favourite volume in the W.i.t.c.h. comic series, but everything is resolved a little too quickly for my liking. Nevertheless, meeting the rebel leader (*swoon*); understanding Phobos' plan (at last); seeing Will faced with multiple challenges and watching Cornelia and Elyon work out the many knots in their friendship reveals some great character moments. The artwork is beautiful, as ever, and it has some of my favourite panels.
Synopsis:"The Guardians continue to face uncertainty as Cornelia struggles with loss and Will's life is threatened by a new enemy."
My Review: You definitely need to read the previous volumes even the slightest bit of sense. I was lost through most of it but I found that I continued reading anyway. I started to really like a couple of the characters and I loved the illustrations. There are hints at romance so might be appropriate for teens.
I really didn't like this book. I was to magical for me. I was very unrealistic. Five friends that also have magical powers and go to an under world, Maridian to save the people. One friend finds her long lost friend in Maridian and has to save her. I would much rather read a real book.
This book was just weird. I really didnt enjoy it because it was kind of confusing. Im really not that into graphic novel so i didnt think it was very good.
