Parasylum originated from a montage of Paranormal Encounters over the many years I have researched deeply into the field of work. Working with integral individuals from scientists to investigators, it lends that factor of credence to the work itself within the book. What I have done is take the factual based element, twisted it with as much Horror/Thriller intent as I could give, which actually wouldn't be exaggerating what truly took place at some of the asylums I have investigated. The many experiments government agencies conducted on society during the early years of shock treatment, Thorazine drugging's and more are only a small portion of what cruelty did take place. You're going to find yourself involved deeply within the pages, becoming part of the investigative team that encounters a night of terror that will warp your mind beyond belief.
A team of inexperienced paranormal investigators find themselves involved in the deepest darkest recesses of the unknown when they enter into Grandview's Asylum. The souls of yesteryear seek revenge on whomever enter into the abyss of no return. The horrors are plenty with many twists and turns and an ending that will keep you shaking your head. Enter into the mindscape where a dream turns into a nightmare and the nightmare is your reality.
The mind is a complex yet simple frame to be in. We travel many different corridors to understanding, which at some point we become enlightened to what it is that plagues us. Enter the mindscape that transforms dreams into nightmares and nightmares into reality. The way we perceive life is only a perception with some, who share in the illusion of disillusionment. We create the path in which we walk, yet the trail upon which one steps could very well be a story that is never ending. Welcome to Parasylum, where what may seem impossible is possible and what might seem sinister is just plain evil!
Anchored in the subjective mindset, he relinquishes his will to the inevitable. Everything seems to be of a set memory, glimpses from the past, forged into the now, leaving only the permeated sense of nothingness. Hung like a ragdoll in abject misery, the echoes of many shake the very foundation upon which the hallowed grounds cry. He closes his eyes, only to recount once more, everything over, and over again. There's no escaping this torture from within, welcome to your Nightmare!

Written in the narrative, Robbie Thomas sets the scene for a horror story that will have you jumping at shadows. A new terror happens with the turn of each page as you follow a group of friends on the most terrifying paranormal investigation they have ever experienced.
As you read the book you will notice one thing that sets “Parasylum” apart from other books; Thomas being a screenwriter, lays out each of the scenes as if it were a movie. I found myself casting the five protagonists with suitable actors causing them to come alive in my mind and increasing the scare factor ten-fold. Here’s the premise of the story. Three paranormal investigators along with their wives set out on what they consider to be their biggest investigation ever. With the latest technological equipment stowed, the group hits the road excited about their night ahead. Experiencing some strange occurrences along the way the group become anxious about what awaits in the condemned asylum.
This is where the horror kicks in. The group is attacked by demonic entities from the moment they enter the asylum, and we’re not talking friendly little ghosts that go boo, these are the stuff of nightmares. Each step that takes the five further into the asylum is more terrifying than the last, leaving them in fear for their lives and looking for a way to escape.
What happens next? You will have to purchase your own copy of “Parasylum” to find out. I would love to give you more detail but doing so would take the experience of your scare away.
The storyline is strong with often graphic details. The plot is engaging with twists and surprises that will have readers trying to figure out what will happen next thinking it will lessen the scare factor. How the protagonist’s relate to each other is well defined however the personalities of each could have been further developed to add depth. Detailed descriptions of the different encounters make the read come alive due to the author’s writing style being reminiscent to a screenplay, as previously mentioned.
Bottom line, "Parasylum” is so terrifying it will have you jumping at bumps in the night! Horrors abound with terrifying sequences at every turn that are sure to have screams ripping from your throat. Don't put out the lights!"
Disclaimer: I was given the beta version of this book by the author for an honest review. I was in no way compensated.
Every paranormal team has that ‘dream’ location. Every paranormal team has their ‘baby’, the one place that they managed to conquer permission to traipse around and investigate the claims of paranormal activity. The team in this book, “Parasylum” by Robbie Thomas, has done just that; Grandview Mental Asylum.
This book is fantastic! It’s an eerie, bumpy ride through the eyes of different team members. This is a must read book for anyone interested in paranormal investigations, ghost hunts, and haunted locations. Grandview is much like any other mental asylum that has been abandoned. The stories the walls hold are more than just mistreatment of patients, they hold something more sinister.
Parasylum begins with a premonition and ends with a supernatural reality. We are taken on a bizarre trip with the team, starting from the moment they leave their house. We are introduced to the interpersonal relationships between various team members, and it very much echoes real life paranormal teams; tension, humor, but above all, camaraderie.
Roadside carnivals. Spooky Fortune Teller. Weird, creepy “people” with a warning for the team.
This book is Ghost Hunters meets Death Tunnel.
There were quite a few moments in this book where I could not turn the virtual page fast enough, where I chewed off all the nails on my left hand (why just the left? :: shrug ::) This has the great makings of a movie, one that I definitely would watch, and review too. This book, this gem of a book, is part one. The author, Robbie Thomas, has made it into a trilogy. Book II, “Parasylum II: The Unleashed“, which was released earlier this year and Book III to be announced 2014. I know I will be reading the other two in the trilogy. Great author, GREAT STORY, and even better story topic! I LOVED THIS BOOK.
Negatives: There weren’t many, actually. Only ones that come to mind were the dialogue/interplay between some of the characters in the book. At points it didn’t seem to flow and seemed forced, like space filler.
I would love to more of the history of Grandview, as to what made it that evil. What kinds of things took place. What kind of “patients” were brought there. Was it always a mental asylum? Was it ever used for anything else? I’m a history buff, so background always makes a more intriguing novel for me.

Parasylum started out as a journey for five friends going on a Paranormal investigation. It evolves moving you closer to the horror that awaits them at the end of their ill fated journey. Through the eyes of the characters you are slowly brought into a place where only sheer terror exists, and there seems no escape. At this point you cannot stop reading. I do not want to give anything away, so I will say, the end is phenomenal, you will be thinking what just happened. Read this book. Incredible Horror.

Very Good Very Creepy Awesome book!! You get so wrapped up in this book I really don't know how to explain how Robbie does it but this book is written in such a way that it just grabs you, this book takes you through everything the Investigators go through it's like you can see it in your head which is crazy in a very good creepy way. If you guys love the paranormal and horror this is a book to buy you will LOVE it!!!! Amazing work Robbie.
This book was terrible. I felt like instead of reading the book explained in the description, I was watching a bunch of second graders put on a play where they are pretending to be scary, but lack the vocabulary to portray anything with depth. Hands down, the worst book I've read. The only good thing about it was the fact that it was only 200 pages long. I give it one star because I HAVE to. I have never wished there was a zero star rating until I read this book.
Robbie is an amazing person and great at what he does!!!! I have met this man and read several books, I fully recommend and after you read this let's discuss :)
I might be partial because I am a character in the book. Still this book does a great job of keeping you on the edge of your seat. Robbie Thomas always knows how to keep you creeped out. This is the first in a trilogy so be sure to read them all.
