I wasn't sure where they were headed until halfway through the book, but I finished anyway. I'm a "liberal snowflake" so I was a bit disgusted on how they described the gay community and those who have abortions.
It has a good premise and quite relevant for today despite being written in 1995. I found the daughter, Jennifer, to be the most interesting character. Her storyline is well written with lots of emotion. Wes, her stepfather and main character, is frustrating with his inability to think before he helps a "college friend" who he hasn't heard from in years - but if he did think, there probably wouldn't be much of a novel. The main issue with this novel is the use of Wes to "show" the reader what is happening which would be good if it wasn't accomplished by Wes "telling" the reader about the scene. This ends up with a lot of "tell" instead of "show." The fight near the end was actually a very good "show" scene.
I bought this years ago and don't think I read it. But it is a book of our political times now though it was written in 1995! I hate to believe it, but the news is telling more and more of these type of tactics being done by politicians in order to further their agendas!
