This novel was OK. It started strong - good character development and plot, decent descriptions of action and situations. It pulled me in very well. Then it veered off. All of the characters had sudden and dramatic conversions. It was difficult for me to accept the conversions were that profound and almost instantaneous. I was not buying it. And the conversations between characters after the conversions were not believable. I tried to imagine those characters having those conversations, and I couldn't. However, the book is not terrible. I would not recommend, nor dissuade others from reading it.

This book was published in 2004, but it is such a fantastic book and I‘m so glad I read it. If you haven’t read it I really urge you too. I really love the title and cover of Black Box.
I love books that involve survival and the things people do or don’t do during crisis. How they depend on each other or how they blame each other for everything that happens.
The two people I liked the most in this story are Dorothy, a flight attendant and an Anglican bishop. How he gave everyone hope and peace, but he waited until they just couldn’t depend on themselves anymore. So often in life that is how it is. We only think we can believe and depend on ourselves. We seem to put God aside and do things our selves.
I like Black Box because it tells why the airplane a 747 crashed, how it told each of the survivors story and the things they did to help the others or the ones that just wanted to help themselves. How each decsion we make in life not only affects ourselves, but everyone around us.
Black Box had some tense, suspenseful moments and also so much helpfulness and forgiveness. I highly recommend this book and I will be keeping my copy. It is a book that I would like to read again.

really good book! I enjoyed this fiction book. It had a lot of interesting turn of events. Even though it was based from a Christian perspective, the author tide in the religous (for lack of a better term) aspect well. He brings to our attention that it is never too late...

Faith: the essence of the book. To find it in the most tumultuous of situations, to understand how it works, to practice using it, and to believe in it, are seen through and through in the book. A great book!!!
