Satine Tierney, didn't believe in curses. That is, until she found herself smack dab in the middle of one...
Caught up in a mad dash around the world, finding out that everything she never believed in is out to get her, Satine Tierney would give anything to go back to her hated aristocratic life once she's thrown into a world she knows absolutely nothing about with four mysterious men she's just met. Men who seem convinced that the bad guys are after her because of something that happened before she was even born. Something in her blood...
The writing was okay hence the three stars, BUT The never ending unanswered questions about anything Satine asked (or anyone in her situation) are infuriating. Everyone, yes EVERYONE around her just stalling answer any questions even up until the end. Even the bad guy just said something vague everytime. Refuse answering once or twice is fine to spice up the story, BUT when it happens until the last page, it just evaporate any interest. Just come clean at the, let say, in the middle of the book and they can continue on that forever chasing and running (which are the highlight of this book. Seriously, the whole book are filled just with chasing and running and fighting or Satine fighting her lust. No time to breathe and throwing some explanation that the reader needed. And this is one long book.)
And i need so many explanations. What is Quinn and Desmond and Rider? Are they superhuman? What Rider motivation on chasing her? Shoving her on Desmond so they just kissing and then..? What good is the curse so everyone after her? Seriously, it's . And what about Alastair, the original bad guy, nowhere in the story involve his presence at all. I'm confuse. It makes the story deviate from its original plot. From 'a man who wants to revenge on Satine parents' to 'The adventure of Satine whose curse makes her wanted by everyone and every supranatural being, whereas the curse function is insignificant so the plot feels exaggerated.'
This is from the last page: She was done with the non-answer answers. She'd been poked and prodded, dragged all over the world, and for what? Figure.
I am one big confuse reader.
Note: I see there is book 2, so maybe there's an answer, just like the note from author said: I know you must have a lot of questions, but so does Satine, and like her, we'll get a chance to ask them later.
But for this book alone, the millions unanswered questions sadly are what makes me losing interest even with the cliffhanger ending.
I've read this many years ago. This is a really fun read! it's something different, not your typical fantasy stuff. And the romance is also very well written. I also adore the writer's sense of humour.
