This is, hands down, my favorite book of this series (that I've read thus far.) It was just so WOW. The right amount of angst and self-doubt to make the teenage mission so believable. There were brief moments of hormone driven passion, but there is only so much time for that when you're in the middle of a war and a soldier fighting for everything.
The sweet, sweet innocence juxtaposed with sharp pointy weapons. One minute, it's all daggers and bows, arrows and a gun... the next it's the naive worry of holding hands while you're sweating. There are moments, where the reality crashes around them, revealing with stark naked cruelty the extent of what they have signed up for. Everything is in the balance, resting on the shoulders of these young adults. No pressure, indeed.
It's really odd, but I swear the further they journey into the Sun realm (the 'brightest' of all the realms) the darker the story seems to get. I've so eager to see where it further leads... I cannot gush enough. Really, this book raises the entire series to a 5 star series for me!
I received a free eBook in exchange for an unbiased review. I have received no compensation for my thoughts.
Wow! What a wild ride! My heart stopped at least twice. The Sun Dwellers is one action-packed, dystopian gem. David Estes continues to deliver a well written, vividly descriptive story that the reader is able to lose themselves in. The Dwellers is the type of series that you truly need to start from the beginning to appreciate the development of each character, and how each book plays into the big picture.
Adele and Tristan, along with four of their friends, are on a secret mission to kill the President and end the war. This perilous mission will test them physically, mentally and emotionally. Will they be up to the task?
Adele is one strong female lead who is not willing to stand ideally by in the face of injustice. Tristan is unwilling to follow his father's command. He has experienced the cruelty first hand that his father as President can dish out. How will Tristan and Adele react when secrets are revealed that impact both of them? This mission will test their trust and bond. I definitely recommend it. I am looking forward to the next installment.
Oh yes, I'm not done with my reviewing rampage just yet. But this time, I have to actually eat my words back. Hah! How about that? Because I remember being sorely disappointed after reading the beta version of The Sun Dwellers until I wasn't sure anymore if I'd like to read the ARC version.
Glad I changed my mind because this time around, the book turned out much better that I was expecting it to be.
Mr David Estes, what an author you are. Writing books with a pace of The Flash, until we, The Beta Team can hardly catch up anymore and still delivering a hit like this.
Personally, I still think The Star Dwellers as the best out of the three books so far. With The Sun Dwellers, some jokes and retorts got a bit overused and repetitive. And I also think The Sun Dwellers could use a darker tone. You know, with the war and their mission to put an end to President Nailin regime, sometimes I found Tristan, Adele, Roc, Tawni, Trevor and Ram as a bit too...playful, perhaps?
Anyway, I've made it to Book 3 now and I read all three in the same year! My mom would be so proud of me because jeez, I have never been a compliant reader. Saying that, I think I need to take a break from Estes books for a good 2-3 months just as a precaution so that I don't get bored with his style of writing.
Yup, I definitely could use another 2-3 of his books until I can confidently decide if he deserves to be in my favourite authors list.
Yes, I'm throwing a challenge at ya, Mr. Estes. *wink2*
Now that we already on the subject of writing style, you know what? I think I need to read more books by male authors. They are straightforward in the way that they deliver the story, they are focus and directed.
I like that.
After a let down from The Star Dwellers cover (I mean, honestly, I couldn't come up with a better cover either), that cover for The Sun Dwellers is soooo much better and just look at that, isn't it gorgeous?
One small problem which becomes more obvious since now, Anna's story is taken out from the book is that the change of POV can be confusing at times. With The Moon Dwellers and The Star Dwellers, I could adapt with the change flawlessly since Adele and Tristan spent so little time together but now as they occupy the same setting almost all the time in The Sun Dwellers, yeah, the problem becomes more apparent. Well, I don't know if there's a solution for this apart from paying greater attention to the chapter headings.
Well, maybe just another tiny bit of criticism, in the earlier part of the book, Tristan and Adele takes a great care in making decision of whose lives worth taking but towards the end, this noble virtue ends up getting partially neglected. I know the situation is pressing but if they were to feel more remorse, then I would respect Adele and Tristan more?
Okay, I totally missed the whole reason why this book lost its 0.5 star. It was because of the massive info dumping in the middle. And also I'm not really sure what's the relevance of introducing these new characters, Linus, Sinew and Bren. Unlike Mep who had a brief cameo in The Star Dwellers, these three characters didn't leave any impact to me and to the story.
Quickie Review- *This review will contain spoilers.* The Sun Dwellers was an emotional roller coaster ride, and in my opinion, the best of the Dweller series so far. The plot moved quite fast even with a slight lack in action, and resulted in an epic climax in the throne room that got my heart going. The only complaint that I have about the plot was that in my opinion, the book was a little straight forward and one-sided. The only real driving force in the plot was the hunting down of the president. I think the plot could have been drawn out a bit more, with some sub-plots and side stories introduced. I thought a more complicated plot (which would result in a longer book) would have helped both the storyline AND the character development. In my opinion, the author could have ended the series here, but I am very curious as to what will happen on the Earth's surface in the next book. The characters were really done well, like in all of the other books. Adele and Tristan were once again lights out together, and I loved what transpired between Tawni and Roc as well. The only part that frustrated me was when Adele got rather ticked off at Tristan for something that wasn't his fault. Trevor was a strong supporting character who provided some comic relief when I needed it. Ok, I'm going to say something here that you may not agree with, but bear with me. I think that it would have been more fitting for Roc to die when he got struck. It would fit with the fact that he is really willing to sacrifice himself for the safety of his friends, and I thought it would be a very appropriate ending to his story. The writing was once again very good. I thought the overall tone was suitably darker in this book, which makes sense because of the much higher stakes in the book. It still had its lighter moments which I appreciated. I FINALLY got the answers I was looking for in terms of world building, but I want to know more about the surface of the Earth and what has changed since our time. I thought the Sun Dwellers was a great read, and I highly anticipate the last book!
Wow! What a book. Estes finishes off this trilogy with a bang. So much so, that I’m just itching to start The Country Saga. I want … no, I NEED to know what happens!
Book three of The Dwellers Saga was action packed. This book played with my every emotion. I cried, I laughed; I even wanted to scream. The Sun Dwellers was an amazing ride. So amazing, that I’m sure I’ll be thinking about it for months to come.
Adele was awesome. She was awesome in the last two books, but she was even more awesome in this one. I loved her fire. She stood her ground, followed her gut. I just loved her. And Tristan … Tristan was completely perfect.
Estes’ writing is so descriptive, so suspenseful, so amazing, you just can’t help but feel everything, see everything. He has truly created and amazing world in The Dwellers Saga.
My only complaint (a super small one) was that there were a couple spots where it slowed for me. I can’t really say why. It may have just been my mood that day, but there were a few times where I did put it down to watch mindless TV.
Even with the drawback, I loved this trilogy and I will be reading it again for sure. If you haven’t read these books yet then stop everything and read them now! You won’t regret it.
Very exciting and action packed story. What a conclusion to this trilogy. David pulls the reader right into the story so that you are part of it. You lose track of where you actually are because he does such a great job with description and flow that you are no longer on your couch, you are right there in the action with Adele, Tristan, Roc, Tawni and Trevor. I would get all three books and read them back-to-back as they flow seamlessly from one right into the other. David is a fantastic writer. I can't wait to read more of his books.
I want to thank David for supplying me with an ARC of this book to read and give an honest review. Although I got the book a while back, I was not able to read it until just recently. Receiving this book for free has in no way influenced my opinion or review.
If you have not read the previous books in this series, STOP READING! I promise there will be spoilers from the first two books in this review, as it's impossible not to mention it. Plus, you have to read the other books in order to even understand this one! So, go back, pick up Earth Dwellers and get reading! You won't be sorry!
Blurb from Goodreads: With those she's closest to dying around her, Adele embarks on a secret mission to the Sun Realm to assassinate the President. Along the way she'll uncover secrets about her relationship with Tristan that she might not be ready to face. Tristan has a secret, too, one that's been eating him up inside ever since he met Adele. Will he reveal all, and risk the loss of friendship and love at a time when he needs it the most? At the same time, Adele's mother, General Rose, must lead her soldiers into battle to face the sun dweller army in the hopes of holding them off until Adele can complete her mission. Can she outlast the strength of President Nailin's elite fighting force? There's only one truth in their world: someone must die.
This book picks up just where Star Dwellers left off. Adele and Tristin are together and they are ready to embark on their journey to the Sun realm to ensure the President doesn't destroy the Moon and Star realms. Their mission is in place and I wondered how on earth they would accomplish it. Their relationship is well established. We also see that Roc and Tawni have taken things to another level in this book, building on what we saw between them in Star Dwellers. It's a joy to watch the relationships of these two couples grow and bloom.
I really love Adele's character. She is so strong and completely willing to sacrifice herself for her friends and family. There is nothing she would not do to keep them safe from harm. If that means she will die, then so be it. She unwilling to sit back and let things unfold, she feels the need to be in the thick of it and give her all. I love that she's not afraid to fight for what she believes is right. She has some doubts, sure, but she's able to work them out or push them away when it's not appropriate. She does make some wrong decisions, but this is how she grows even more in this book. Tristan continues to be a loving, honest guy who is also willing to sacrifice things for the ones he loves. And his secret, which he eventually reveals, was not surprising to me, but it was to his fellow friends and loved ones that didn't know. It made sense how Estes revealed this particular secret, helping to establish the link between this series and the Country series. He is also fiercely protective of Adele, which makes me love him even more. The characters continue to be likable and relatable in this book as they were in the others. I don't think there was one character I didn't understand and who didn't have their own distinct personality. I loved how funny Roc is. Estes also took some characters I wasn't sure would be important and really expanded upon them: namely Trevor. And President Nalin continues to be an egotistical idiot who I just want to wack over the head with a big wooden plank!
As for plot twists, there are certainly many. Adele begins to doubt her relationship with Tristan (and there's a reason for this that she can't quite put her finger on which we learn about later in the book and totally explains the insta-love between them that some might have been annoyed about). I felt badly that there might even be a doubt but I understood the reasoning for it. I also appreciate that Estes is not afraid to kill off characters. One death is reminiscent of Mockingjay, but I won't get into that because I certainly don't want to spoil things! Let's just say there's sadness that comes along with it. And there are scenes where I literally felt my heart racing in my chest screaming to come out. I laughed, I cried, I caught my breath. Estes pulls out all those emotions with this story. He pulls your heart strings, then he throws you in the thick of the action so you can heal!
And Estes really has a great writing flow. I get sucked right into his books and they pull me along so easily. I never want to put them down. His language is easy to understand and follow. The book totally engrossed me. He is very descriptive, as well. This helps me to really picture his world in my mind. To see the charters and their surroundings and help me feel how it affects them all.
In conclusion, this book is a great third installment to this series. For the most part, I usually get annoyed by the third book in a series, but this one did not disappoint. And it's a great lead in to the finally book which will tie up all the loose ends and also integrate the series with the Country series. Once again, Estes has blow me away. I can't help but love his books and want more from him!
I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.
I loved star dwellers and was really excited to read the sun dwellers. I think I had a bit too high expectations and was a bit disappointed, because it missed that keep reading feel from the star dwellers, but it was a very good story. And I really enjoyed it.
The story picks up almost right after where the star dwellers ended. We already know what the mission of the characters is and I kept wondering how they would accomplish it, this was one of the reasons I wanted to keep reading. The story was interesting, but there where parts that I didn’t like and it lacked that keep-reading feel. There are some very surprising twists and turns, but also some twists for which enough hints are giving so you can figure it out yourself. And the ending was awesome! It leaves the opportunity of more books and still concludes most plot lines pretty well. I really am looking forward to the next book, because wow after that ending I want to know more.
The characters are just as likeable as in the earlier books. I still love Adele and Tristan and in this book they are more together and their relationship develops a bit more. We also get to see bits of Anna (Adele’s mother) point of view in this book, which I really liked. Although it got a bit annoying that the author switched pov’s so often at a small cliffhanger, I just wanted to read more of the current pov and not switch pov’s. So even in this book we learn more about the characters and see how they try to finish this mission together.
And where I was almost certain there wouldn’t be much world building done in this book, there still was. I really liked that even though we know so much about the world already the author still manages to add pieces we didn’t knew. And ofcourse the character finally get to see the sun realm in this book and we finally get an idea of how the sun realm looks and what is normal there.
To conclude: I really enjoyed this book, although there were some parts I didn’t like. Even in this book we learn more about the characters and the world building. There were enough surprising twists, but also some predictable parts. And I loved the ending and can’t wait to read what David writes next!
David Estes has done it again. Another brilliant novel of his, The Sun Dwellers, has just rocked my world. The Sun Dwellers is the 3rd installment in The Dwellers series. I thought it was the end, but now I am pretty sure there will be another one called The Earth Dwellers in Nov 2013. Arrg. So far away!
It is so hard for me to write series reviews because I don't want to give anything important away to the reader. I hate having a book spoiled for me and don't want to do it to anyone else! So, let me just say that some horrible events from Book 2 have pushed Adele a little over the edge. She is on a mission to kill President Nailan. Believing that only when he is dead will there be peace in the Tri-Realms. Also, Adele is driven mostly by revenge and that is a pretty tough monster to break. I think I might have mentioned this in my reviews for The Moon Dwellers and The Star Dwellers, but Adele is bad ass. I really love her character.
Speaking of characters, Tristan, Roc and Tawni really came into their own. In The Sun Dwellers they have no choice but to become the best and sometimes worst of themselves. Of course, the world building was spot on. The plot flawless.
Ok, you get the point. I really loved this book and HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE WHOLE SERIES!
5 stars to The Sun Dwellers for being so bright I gotta wear shades.
"The pain is so intense I don't feel it. I feel nothing."
David Estes has done it again. He is back with the heart-pounding and breath-taking conclusion to The Dwellers Saga. Right from the moment I beta'd the first installment of The Dwellers Saga, The Moon Dwellers, I have been completely addicted to this incredible YA Dystopian series and I have been dying to find out how it was all going to end. This is a must read because as did the other two The Sun Dwellers just took my breath away.
Adele, Tristan and the team must put aside their feelings for one another to do the right thing. They need to stop this dictatorship society that they have been living in for too long. Determined to make things right they must go on a journey to fight the President and make his fall from power. But can everyone survive the journey? And will Adele and Tristain's love be strong enough to survive the toughest journey of them all? Only one thing is certain, things will never be the same.
I was just completely and utterly blown away by The Sun Dwellers. It's fair to say that it is amazing. It just held my attention completely and I was dying to see what was going to happen next and how it would all end. David Estes is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. His writing style is fantastic that captures your attention right from the start and does not let it go until you have finished the book. I don't think there is anything this man can write that I will not love.
Adele is so fantastic. I just love her. She is such a strong, kick-ass heroine... yeah those are so the best kind. She won't sit back and let everyone else take care of it. No matter how much danger she puts herself in she will do it to make sure things end up the way they should and I just love that about her. So many other YA heroines just let other characters take the dangerous jobs and just sit back and wait to see what happens. Adele is not that person. She takes the bull by the horns and does what she needs to do. Regardless of whether it might be the last thing she ever does or now. Some of her decisions are questionable but she is awesome and I love her.
Tristain is just so sweet. I really love him and always had a soft spot for him. Things were no different in this installment. He is awesome and I love how protective over Adele he is. He doesn't care if he gets hurt as long as Adele is okay. Yeah they make a pretty awesome couple and I just love reading about their story and I could just read this series over and over again and still be completely enamored by it. It is just that good.
One thing David is the best at is pulling at the heartstrings. Be prepared for some tears to be shed. I am fast learning that this should just be expected in all David Estes books. He is such a fantastic author and The Sun Dwellers is one of his best. I absolutely loved every moment of this book and the ending was just fantastic. The Sun Dwellers was incredible as wrapping up the story of The Dwellers Saga while still setting the scene for the upcoming 'Sister series' The Country Saga, which I cannot wait to get started on... yeah I'm lucky enough to already have it waiting for me on my kindle. Sooo excited for that.
The Dwellers Saga is such a fantastic YA Dystopia series which is not to be missed out on. It's got heart-pounding action and adventure mixed with the perfect dose of breathtaking romance. This is without a doubt one of my favourite dystopia series of all time and is one I can re-read over and over again. A must- read.
"I'm not perfect, nor do I pretend to be. I've killed. I've said and done things I'm not proud of. But I'm better than there people. If these robots refuse to see the trust, we'll show it to them - the hard way if we have to."
You all know how I sincerely love and enjoy this series. I love the action, fast-paced plot, the characters, the twists, David's witty writing style, the setting, the idea. Pretty much everything. The Moon Dwellers caught me at page 50. The Star Dwellers at page 10. And I just have to be honest, but The Sun Dwellers--ah, yes, yes--the Sun Dwellers is just a little bit too fast, yet too slow for me. Haha! Sorry about that, but I can't find the right word for it.
I guess it's too fast because it left me off with a gazillion questions in mind. Questions like why put Sinus, Linew, and Bren? What happened to the war (aside from the bonus story)? Why kill Mom (guess whose Mom) when all the while we expected her to be alive and kicking? Nevertheless these are just trivial questions. :) It didn't make the series anything less than fantastic! Oh, David. You're a natural comic. :)
On with the third book, the Sun Dwellers brought its readers into a deeper intimacy with our main characters: Adele, Tristan, Roc, Tawni, Trevor, and Ram. Essential info will be revealed about them. Yeah I know you've memorized every detail about them in Books 1 & 2, but hold that thought because you might miss a quarter of your life if you won't read this! *just saying*
Anyway, the plot picks right where The Star Dwellers ended. Our six leading dwellers are on their way to the Sun Realm to uhmm...kill President Nailin. On their way, *tiny spoiler #1* Adele is having second thoughts about TRISTAN! Ugh. I can't believe she's doubting him! Hmp. When they reach the Sun Realm, they're in for a mega-awesome cool realm party! Yup, that's right. It means that everyone will be out on the road dancing, singing, jamming, partying! And it also means that it'll be harder for them to hide. T.T
Eventually they'll reach the president's palace, but it doesn't end there. The story's just beginning to unfold. Oh yes, SECRETS and SECRETS and lots of SECRETS will be revealed! And of course, people--the ones we love!!!--will die. :( So sad, but I bet you don't want to be left behind, do you? XP
Without further ado, I present to you.... *drumroll*
THE SUN DWELLERS by David Estes!
P.S. It has a fourth book!!!! All this time I thought it was a trilogy!!! David better not be serious about November 2013, though. I'll go crazy!!!! T.T
The Sun Dwellers is a major roller coaster ride of shivers, tears, and emotions! I was so ready for this ride, even though I had no idea where it would take me! It took me up, down, and even upside down sometimes, making my stomach drop. And after it was all over, I wanted to ride it all over again! Good news for me, there are more books!
This book is the final efforts of Adele, Tristan, and their friends to assassinate the President. They know this won't be easy, and they may die in the attempt. But they also know it must be done for any chance of peace to exist in the Realms.
Helping them on this final journey is Roc, Tristan's best friend; Tawni, Adele's best friend; and Trevor, who is part of the rebel army, and a good friend of Adele's mom. They all have something to lose. For Adele, its her only chance for freedom, for herself, her mother and her sister. The theme of family lives on in this book! Tristan also wants to be free from his father's sadistic ways and help his fellow citizens. Roc is mainly there for Tristan, but he also has something to prove--exacting revenge for his mother. Tawni has lost just about everything dear to her, and also wants her freedom. Trevor is all about equality, and maybe seeing the President's head on a stick.
So we go on another journey, this time into the lion's den. Even though there is almost constant action going on, we still get lots of little moments between characters, which is what really makes the story for me. Adele is very conflicted through the first half of the book, which brings us back to the beginning--why are Adele and Tristan so drawn to each other?
In the previous books, we got a little comic relief from Roc and Tristan's friendship. In this story, though, Roc and Adele bond a little bit, and Trevor kind of takes over on the comic front. This one doesn't have as many laughs--these kids are in a dire situation, after all!
The ending was the most gripping and nail-biting part of this ride. There were some very scary moments, and of course, lots of dark moments. But in the end, I was more than satisfied with the conclusion to this trilogy.
To wrap it all up, this book is crazy good! The characters, the setting, the plot, and all the details were excellent! Everything made complete sense to me, and left me wanting more! So, its on to the next book for this girl!
This one was my favorite out of the Dweller's series. I thought that the first two books that led up to this one were substantially well written; however, this one most certainly takes the cake. For me, The Dweller series would be nothing without the magnificent characters that are inside these crisp, new, clean pages. Finally, the entire group is together on a mission that will literally change their lives forever.
David Estes does it again, I'm not usually one to gush about characters or a series - heck, I don't usually write reviews but I feel like I owe it to the characters to get their story out there. It's often a hit or a miss for me. If I don't get attached to the characters the story is just a bland, slow read. But - keep in mind that these novels are like page turners on steroids and I say it's because of the characters. As I've stated in my other reviews of The Dwellers, the characters are so very genuine and real. They are human, they have their weaknesses and they have their strengths.
They rely on each other, need each other. Loneliness is one thing you will not find in these books - Adele, Tristan, Roc, Tawni, Ram and Trevor are a group, "one for one and one for all," that besides a few bumps in the road, form together and become one. Where one lacks, the other does not.
The setting was beautifully described - I felt like I was viewing the scenes through Tristan and Adele's POV - astounding. I was able to picture just about everything inside this dark, surreal underworld.
The events that take place in The Sun Dwellers are tragic - there was a lot of heartbreak in this one to say the least. We finally figure out the darker shades of Tristan's life - as well as many other characters. Oh my, I won't spoil anything - it's just when everything comes together it's like a puzzle that's finished. You stand back and look at the work you (or the characters in this case) went through to finally come up with the pieces and actually put them together to form a picture - but alas when one puzzle is finished there are always hundreds of others to figure out.
This however, is not the ending, for The Country series awaits my greedy eyes - I've actually finished Fire Country already. Like I said David's works are in fact page turners on steroids.
David Estes hit it out of the park with the final installment of the Dwellers series. Intensity has been building since the first book, only to come to a head in this volume. I thought that I loved the last two books, but that word no longer describes it. This volume was phenomenal.
Estes continues with his amazing descriptions. What floors me about his style is the amount of information that he packs in to a description, without making it seem like a description. It is all worked in so subtly that you have a complete, vivid picture in your mind without ever having to read a long, drawn out narrative. The different realms are now so well developed that I feel like I’ve been there in person.
This volume is also much more intense than its predecessors. All events are coming to a head. There is a lot less talking and a lot more fighting. There is also a great deal more pain and sorrow. This is coupled with lots of laughter as well, because even in the darkest of moments friends and family still make things brighter. A new order is dawning in the realms and we are along for the ride to experience it. You are so immersed in the struggles that you feel like fighting for them.
The characters in this novel also continue to grow. They are all such well rounded people. You find your heart going out to the characters based on the trials that they are going through. You want to mourn with them when they lose a loved one. You hurt with them when they get injured. One thing that I must say however is that there is no way that I could have gone on this journey without getting lost. They all seem to have an amazing sense of direction. I envy them that.
David Estes has kept me captivated since book one. It saddens me that this series is now complete. I want to continue the journey with the characters, watching them rebuild. I can’t wait to get my hands on his next book, Fire Country, the first book in the sister series to the Dwellers.
Once again, David Estes writes an amazing book. This, for me, would be on the "must read" shelf. I have read a lot of YA books, and this is one of the best series. Now, onto the review...
Overview: I am going to say what I always do, read David Estes's overview. This section always stresses me out because I want to retell the story from where I see it, but am afraid of giving to much away and putting in spoilers. So I will just let the overview tell you everything he wants you to know.
Characters: This story is told from the view points of two characters, Adele and Tristan. Not only do you learn and grow with these two, but you also fall in love with those around them. Many times in stories (especially a series), characters cease to be dynamic anymore they are always good or always bad, and the choices they make are very predictable. Not here, you know who the bad and good people are, that is very obvious, but sometimes, just like in life it isn't as simple as all that. With that said, Estes creates dynamic, energetic and most importantly loveable characters.
Setting: I can see it all in my head, how each of these places are connected and how each one of them look. That says a lot about an author who can create a place in your mind, that you have never seen.
Plot: Fast moving and action pact as always. Everything was moving so fast in the books at times, that I was worries that we were going to get to the climax of the story and only be half way through. Once again, I was amazed at how Estes can keep the plot moving along at such a pace, but hold off til just the perfect moment for everything to come together.
I said it before, and I will say it again, David Estes you are AMAZING!
Okay, so many things happen in this book. Happy, sad, heartbreaking, and agonizing things! People die, lots of people die. People are happy, lots of people are happy. So I guess it fixes itself. What's really important isn't who died (even though that's a pretty big deal) or who lived (that's an even bigger deal) but what really matters is that at the end this book/story delivered what was promised.
I went into an emotional roller coaster that has so many sharp turns I thought I was going to die! I rejoiced with the characters as well as mourned with them. Along the way I thought I had a strong grip on the outcome and how things will play out, but within the chaos of feels I was going trough I realized only David knows what's going to happen.
The book kept me guessing and, more importantly, it kept me hoping! I enjoyed every single conversation the characters had I lived every single memory that came to their minds and I drank every detail!
All in all, The Sun Dwellers is a great book in an awesome series. I loved the comebacks, the small talks, and even the ill-timed jokes!
This is a book that will bring you on the verge of tears; both sad and happy ones! A total enjoyment so props to the amazing author; David Estes!
So I gave the other two books 3.5 stars and that's kind of where I am with this one. I liked it better than the first and about the same as the second. It seemed to drag on with the same mission. There was plenty to keep you involved, but there wasn't many exciting subplots to hold your attention on the way to the climax. The ending was fair enough but the short story at the end really added to it. For me, that's my ending and where I would have liked it. It didn't have to solely be told from Tristan and Adel's perspective to maintain its identity.
Quite a bit of mystery lies ahead for the dwellers. I was hoping to have some of that resolved. There appears to be a sister series to this one. I will certainly give that a try but am not going to hold out much hope for some of these unanswered questions to be revisited as it appears at first glance that there is no overlap in the characters that would be intrinsic to that discovery.
Overall a pretty good 3.5 star YA dystopian series worth a read.

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
One of my favorite series ever has taken on the task for which this journey began. You can always hope in a battle that the characters you learn to love will survive. This story is no exception. What do you get, an adventure you won’t want to end.

I just did a reread of The Sun Dwellers but this time on audio. And even though I knew what was coming. THAT. ENDING...!! I got major goosebumps AGAIN..!
Listening to award winning narrators, Julia Whelan and Will Damron, was the icing on the cake for me. This final book in The Dwellers trilogy was my favorite of the series, but having Julia as Adele and Will as Tristan gave me a completely new and even more amazing experience this time around!
This makes me want to do a reread of The Country Saga right now. I can't wait for the audios so I can continue this wonderful journey of David Estes' Dweller and Country sagas!!
Oh my goodness! Just finish the book last night and it was incredible, I couldn't put it down. I even used Text-to-speech on my kindle while I cook hahaha. It was a nice meal ;) Anyway, the story just developed so well, it was amazing. Tristan and Adele's mission was complete but in the most unexpected way and I love it. I love Roc and Tawni, their new relationship and how they grew and became part of yhe storyline. Its a must read!! and I'll be totally reading all de Evolution books! Thanks to David Estes for sharing the dwellers story!
Wow!!! David has done it again!!! My heart was in my throat most of the time. There was ALWAYS that feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. It drove me wild and wouldn't let me put it down until my arms could no longer hold it up or my eyes could no longer stay open!!!
What an incredible wild ride that was. Tristan is total swoon worthy!! What a gentleman and a fighter!
When is the next one coming out?? I need it now!!!!!
Nicely done, David! I sure did not see that one coming!! The Sun Dwellers is best of the series without doubt! I was giggling out loud at some of the banter and antics of the main characters! And obviously very saddened at other parts. And yay for Tawni, my favorite! I can't wait to dig into your next book!
3.5 stars. Exciting and great action scenes. Good ending to trilogy. The resolution to the story, the friendships and the sassy dialogue inspired me to round up. I need to read the Country Saga series before I can read book #4.
I listened to this series on Audible. It had great narrators and they did a fantastic job bringing their voices to this story. I love the characters and the storyline.
No, nonononono…..it can’t possibly be OVER can it? Where is the rest of the book?? My heart has just been chopped in two by the pure unbelievable amazingness (is that even a word?) of this book. Calling it just a book is an understatement. This is no ordinary book….this is a Dwellers book. To find out what that means, READ IT.
Yeah, okay, wow, stop the world from spinning, this is way more important. As stated in the previous Dwellers books, Adele and Tristan live deep within the earth after the aboveground became uninhabitable. Eventually, the Nailin family assumed control, and became an entire race of crazy, evil, dictators who I wanted to punch in the face. This is the final piece in the story of an epic revolution. Seriously. My god, the pace of this book, the everything of this book just wouldn’t let me put it down. I tried to unstick my eyes from it and I couldn’t. At that moment in time, I was living Tristan and Adele. I was there, I was them. Adele and Tristan ended at the second book given an impossible, suicidal task….to kill the President. Along the way, people die, people live, people love, and readers learn. Oh yes, there are some crazy things Tristan has been keeping secret. To learn them….READ THE BOOK.
Oh my gods. Seriously I will never be able to get enough of these characters. Adele, so strong, brave, intelligent, and kick-butt. Tristan, also those things yet also highly sexy. Roc, funny, adorable, and protective. And Tawni, beautiful, fierce, and loyal to a fault. All of them against such impossible odds. The only way they could possibly succeed was with each other. Each brings something. Adele is of course the daughter of the two leaders to the rebellion, obviously she has mad awesome fighting skills. Tristan, as the president’s son has experienced so much loss at the hands of his father, he is so ready to bring him down and begin a new Nailin era, of peace. Tristan, the comedian brings advice to calm each member of the group down, and to keep them all focused on the task at hand, also focused on getting revenge on the man who happens to be his biological father. And Tawni keep everyone sane and fills them with moral support. It’s amazing how well-crafted each character is with so much depth. They fill the holes in each other. Another reason to READ THIS BOOK. And how on earth could I forget “President” Nailin. It’s amazing how much the word is twisted in this novel. He is just so villainous. So dirty, and evil. Malicious and immoral. Especially the way he treats women. It made me want to hurt him almost as much as Tristan and Adele. He was amazing fun to hate and want dead.
Yes. YES. YEEEEEEEEEES. No love triangles. I will repeat NO LOVE TRIANGLES. Just awesome, pure love and getting to know each other. It is so cute. Roc and Tawni plus Adele and Tristan line up so beautifully. I love Tawni and Roc so much (the end, OMG the end, with Roc, and I almost died b/c I thought…. and……). And of course Adele and Tristan struggling with their feelings for each other because of the strange electric pull toward each other. They, of course, are trying to understand whether what they feel for each other is real or not. (It’s definitely real). Uh huh.
I loved this entire book. The dual perspective from both Adele and Tristan allowed for twice as much fun, and I loved it. If only I could see into the heads of the boys from other books to understand why the heck they do the weirdo things they do. And forget about real life. Anyway, there was so much detail into each of the characters. I bet I could read it a billion times and not ever get bored because there was so much happening yet it just drew me in even more. It didn’t overwhelm me.
I own this book. And I am so happy I do. I don’t think I could ever part ways with it. And it is also not the end!! What kind of ending was that? And I have to wait a year for this cliff-hanger to be solved?? THE EARTH DWELLERS HERE I COME (why can’t I find this book on Goodreads? And how do I fix this massive problem?). Anyway, every aspect of this book just serves to make it better. And better. And the best. So basically a Dwellers book means it has one of the most amazing dystopian plots ever, added with one of the fiercest troop of characters ever, added in with a pinch of perfect romance, all stirred together by an amazing author. This will forever be one of my favorite books ever, not to mention I NEED MORE.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I thought The Star Dwellers was wow-worthy but man! The Sun Dwellers is something else entirely. It's fan-freaking-tastic!
I really love how David Estes didn't hold back on giving his characters a hard time. That sounds really terrible but hear me out for a second. It's one thing to make characters really kickass so they'll survive anything but it's another to give them tasks that are so hard you'll wonder for a split second if they'll all come out alive in the end. The Sun Dwellers had its fair share of violence and action similar to the previous books but this time around it's even more terrifying. Adele and the gand are given the toughest mission of all. It was a long and excruciating journey going to the Sun Realm. They had to fight off a lot of Nailin's men and deal with the exhaustion and emotional pain that came after. There were plenty of action packed scenes that had me both tensed and excited. After reading The Star Dwellers, I came to know that anything, absolutely anything, can happen in David Estes' books. His creativity and boldness really livens up the story.
Seeing their group work together and fight harder in this book was amazing. They're so much stronger here than they were before. Comparing them to how they were in the first book, I can't help but feel a sense of pride for them. It's like I got attached to all the characters, even the fairly new ones, along the way. Estes' character building was even better in this book. They really transformed throughout the series! Especially Adele. She was still the same kickass girl she was in the first book but somehow having Tristan around her so much softened her up a bit, but totally in a good way!
Can we just discuss the romance for a bit? Estes put a twist into their little romance and it was... unexpected and unique! At first I wasn't so sure how I'd feel about it. It sounded so crazy but when I thought about it, they're deep underground for crying out loud. Anything can happen in this series. So yeah, I definitely loved seeing Adele and Tristan spend more time and develop despite everything that's happening around them. It wasn't fluffy romance that was out of place. Not at all! It was just right to give me feels and not disrupt the story's progress.
The world building in this one was equally good. The way the Sun Realm was described sort of reminded me of The Capitol in The Hunger Games only less creepy. It was okay though because I enjoyed how they tried to blend in the festivities and how they figured out ways to travel faster. Plus it was a good break from all the fighting and drama. I especially liked that part where Adele and Tawni were trying to dress themselves in Sun Realm fashion. They were so out of it that it was funny! It also showed just how different and deprived the other realms were from the Sun Realm, which I think was a nice touch to the story.
The climax was nerve wracking. This is one of the parts where Estes really went for it. Every chapter was thrilling in both Adele's and Tristan's perspectives. You just don't know what would happen next! Everyone definitely had a role to play in the ending. Mild spoiler alert! Someone will step up. It's a big shocker ;)
I was more than satisfied with how this story turned out. It had all the elements that makes a great Young Adult dystopia book. Detailed actions scenes, colorful world building, and a unique story line. You wouldn't be able to stop reading, that's for sure... which is great! Because The Dwellers Saga culminates in the fourth book, The Earth Dwellers which also happens to be The Country Saga's ending. Basically, David Estes takes two separate stories and creates a mash of dystopia awesomeness! I've read Fire Country and it's also good. I can't wait to finish both series. I bet it'll be one mind blowing experience.
This is the third book in a fantastic YA Dystopian series. I loved it!
Adele is a wonderful character. I liked her feisty, sarcastic attitude from the beginning but, like any teen, she can be a little prickly and defensive. I love how she has grown in character throughout the series. She is a teenage girl living in the Moon Realm, one of the Tri-Realms created when the earth was faced with a mass extinction event when a meteor was found to be hurtling to Earth. Sent on a mission by her mother to the Sun Realm, she finds herself facing even more danger. As secrets are revealed, can she survive the oncoming battle, or will President Nailin succeed?
Tristan is also a wonderful character and the heir apparent to the Presidency of the Tri-Realms. I liked his sense of honour and decency. He has a more compassionate attitude than his tyrannical father. Facing his father is not going to be easy, but he is determined to confront him on his own terms. Wanting to reveal a secret he's been hiding for years, will he lose everything he holds dear?
Having previously downloaded the other two books in audio format, I decided to download this too. This audiobook is again narrated by the two readers, Julia Whelan and Will Damron. They both did another fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life. Sometimes, having two narrators can be an off-putting experience for some readers, but I have no problem with it. They have pleasant and clear voices to listen to and I would definitely listen to more books read by them both, whether together or alone.
I started to listen to the story and was quickly hooked; it continues from the end of book two. This book is again told from both Adele's and Tristan's points of view in alternating chapters. This gives the reader an insight into the protagonists thoughts and feelings, as well as scenes that play out without the other character being in the picture.
Tawni has a more prominent role in this book. I really like her. She's very resourceful and just as feisty as Adele. Roc is still one of my favourite character's with his charm and easy-going personality. Trevor is also a fantastic character. I originally thought that he was placed into book two to make a romance triangle between Adele and Tristan. However, I was pleased to find out that this was not the case. He is like a brother to Adele, though I think he would have liked to have been more.
There are several twists and turns that kept me riveted. I found myself on a huge emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end; laughing and crying in equal measure. I love the shopping scene, as well as the body surfing one. There is a huge fight scene that packs such a huge emotional punch that I had to stop listening to it to dry my eyes (a total ugly cry, if you get my meaning). Once I composed myself, I continued listening to it. As the story rolled on to it's conclusion, I felt sad because I didn't want it to end. As it ends on another cliffhanger, I guess I shall have to read The Earth Dwellers, since it's not out in audio book yet. However, I will need to continue with reading the Country Saga first, as The Earth Dwellers ties up both sagas.
David Estes has written a fantastic dystopian novel that has turned me into a huge fan of his. I love his writing style, which is fast paced and the flow is extremely fluid. His characters come alive, and the descriptions of the environs left me breathless. I am looking forward to reading more of his books in the foreseeable future.
I highly recommend this book if you love books like The Hunger Games, Divergent and The Maze Runner, or YA, Dystopian or Post Apocalyptic genres. - Lynn Worton
