Mira Anders has lost her job, damaged the professional reputation she has spent years building, and is at the end of her rope. Seeking solace, she returns to Boston, going home to the man who has been like a father to her for the last 15 years. When Pat Kelly urges her to apply for a position with his estranged son’s architectural firm she thinks he’s crazy. While once friends, she hasn’t seen or spoken to James Kelly in a very long time and they didn’t exactly part under the best of circumstances. Despite her misgivings, she finds herself applying for a job in the design department and she is hired. Her worries about her identity never materialize because James does not recognize her as the same chubby, homely girl he knew as a boy. Just grateful for the opportunity, she decides to say nothing; after all he’s just her boss.
But there is a problem: she finds herself intensely attracted to the man who had once been at the center of her adolescent fantasies. Mira must face a difficult decision: try to build a relationship that is essentially based on deceit, or tell him the truth and risk losing both her wonderful job and James all over again. Just when a solution seems in sight a dark specter from Mira’s past threatens their fragile, but deepening bond and Mira’s very life. Will they be able to overcome their doubts and trust each other before it’s too late?
I do apologize for the editing issues with "Running from Fate." I did edit and proof and have others do so as well, but I think only looking at it on the computer and, with the length of time I spent on it, I just missed some things. Truthfully, as I spent time as a professional editor I was annoyed with myself for leaving errors. I recently published a print copy through CreateSpace and noticed errors in spelling and grammar when reading the paperback proof. I have since corrected and uploaded said correct copy to Amazon. I've also requested that customers be informed of the updated version, but as of yet the Amazon people have not gotten back to me. I was able to offer a free promotion through KDP Select and I'm glad so many people downloaded my book. I do plan on doing another free promotion, but as of yet I'm not sure when it will be. As an FYI there will be two more books in the series though I'm not sure yet when I will write them as another story spoke to me and is currently being written. Thanks for the feedback.
Mira she has a temper, "a low growl trickled out of her lips before she could stop it. Mira took a deep breath and tried to reign in her emotions. "Ah, yes," she purred. "That's exactly what I should have done, made an appointment to see you." If sarcasm had managed to creep into her voice she couldn't help it. She tapped her index finger on her chin, "Wait a second I did try that. I've been attempting to see you for over a week, but you're always too busy." Her voice was edging toward anger again so she took another breath and tried for a more moderate tone. "Look, you gave this project to me without a whole lot of guidelines. Then, when I had questions, you refused to meet with me. How can I work without all the information?" James he's a man that always gets what he wants, "if I decided to have you," he murmured as his finger ran along the graceful curves of her face and, finally, stopped to slowly trace her soft lips. "I promise you will give no thought to running. But if you betray me," his voice hardened and deepened, "there won't be any second chances." James he's proud of his woman for self defense, "a slightly feral grin flashed across James' face as he imagined the delicate woman in front of him taking down an attacker twice her size with a well-placed high kick." I liked reading this book.
3.5 Stars! The editing for this book left a little to be desired. There were a lot of grammatical/spelling errors and little things like that that just grated on me. But they fortunately didn't detract from the story. I enjoyed it and found myself giggling at conversations and drawn deeply into the "yummy bits". The chemistry between Mira and James was spot on, and I even enjoyed the mystery aspect that was brought in. However, it was very predictable and ended far too abruptly. This book would have definitely benefited from and epilogue...something more to hold on to.
There was some grammer errors in this book but not nearly so bad that it takes away from the story. I liked the lead characters more than I initially thought I would. James, while demanding and some times masochistic, was also conflicted and real. Mira was a firecracker who refused to be a wallflower (Thank GOD, because I'm at my wits end with the wide eyed damsel routine in books) The only thing I had trouble believing was that James couldn't figure out who she was.....I mean, how common of a name is MIRA. Other than that it was pretty good.
Enjoyed this story as it's not about someone who has oodles of spare cash which makes a nice change! There are a few twists and turns in this to keep you guessing although I think you already know "whodunnit" pretty much from the start. Saying that, the story flows nicely and takes you on a journey with Mira which I always like.
Characters were detailed, storyline went at a good pace, editing and spelling mistakes were few and far between.
249pgs, romantic suspense, She loses everything and goes back home to a man who has treated her like a daughter. He convinces her to apply for a job with his estranged sons company. she does and gets hired, but he doesn't recognize her. They are attracted to one another, and she doesn't know if she should reveal who she really is.
Would have given 5 stars but I have to agree with the previous rating there were a lot of editing misses! Loved the story but really seemed to end abruptly ~ hopefully there is another one to come! For sure there is a lot more to this story to be told !!!!
I really enjoyed the book. Even though there were grammatical errors, it was really good. I hope the author writes a 2nd book to Kira's and James' story. It just leaves you kind of hanging.
