4 ½ stars – Contemporary/Erotic Romance Novella
I read this quite a while back as part of the Real Men Last All Night (Lexi Steele, #1.5) anthology and the smokin’ hot tale was my favorite out of the four.
Ex-Army Ranger Ethan Cooper owns a bad-ass biker bar in a small Texas town and enjoys his no-strings-attached, love ‘em-and-leave ‘em, bad-boy lifestyle. He suddenly finds his life turned upside down and his hardened, cold heart turned inside out when he finds himself lusting after his quiet, innocent, prim and proper neighbor, Miss Sarah Fox. I loved Sarah’s character, and her yearning and loneliness brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoyed this story.

This was a good book and I love reading Ms. Leigh's books. This is the first book in her "Wounded Warrior's" series. Ethan Cooper is a bad boy who runs the local bar. From his attic window he catches a glimpse of he neighbor Sarah Fox sun bathing - she thought nobody could see her. She is a loner and works from her home. She has a crush on Cooper but he is too male and thickheaded to see it. She goes to the bar and he signals the bartender whether she can have a drink or not. He uses his influence to further isolate, her not realizing that she wants to be part of the town. He finally gets the picture and meets her in the grocery store he introduces her to people there that he has known from childhood and all of a sudden she is talking to the people in town. He opened that door for her and then fell for her and pulled her into his protection when he thought she was threatened. The sex scenes were hot. The ending was a surprise. This book was very well written like all of Ms. Leigh's books with no errors in spelling or grammar. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Lora Leigh è un’autrice che non manca mai nel mio scaffale dei “to read” : quando ho voglia di leggere una storia sensuale e molto piccante, con una spruzzata di suspense e uomini determinati (perlopiù ex soldati alpha), con lei so di andare sul sicuro.
Ho letto quasi tutti i suoi libri pubblicati in Italia ma, non sempre li ho apprezzati: il suo punto di forza, le scene di sesso, sono infatti un’arma a doppio taglio poiché a volte possono soffocare la trama e risultare decisamente eccessive, a maggior ragione se si tratta, come in questo caso, di una breve novella. Non a caso, già la scena iniziale promette una storia infuocata: abbiamo una giovane donna innocente e apparentemente pudica, coperta di piercing in posti nascosti, che cerca invano di darsi piacere all’aperto, vicino alla sua piscina, sicura che la recinzione le garantisca privacy. Non ha fatto i conti, però con l’alta mansarda da cui il suo vicino, Ethan Cooper, ha una perfetta visuale. In quei bollenti attimi l’uomo rimane incantato da quella che ormai da due anni è la sua vicina di casa, due anni durante i quali c’erano stati solo sguardi e rapporti di buon vicinato, in un’apparente atmosfera di cortese ma distaccata gentilezza. Inizia così il bollente inseguimento di Cooper, a una preda un po’ diffidente ma che da anni aspetta di essere catturata e di assaporare, con il suo sexy e riservato vicino, quelle fiamme della passione che non ha mai conosciuto.
Ben presto i loro focosi amplessi si trasformano, non si capisce bene come, in amore; ciò che mi ha davvero convinto non sono state le tante scene di sesso, ma la componente di suspense, incarnata da Sarah e dal suo misterioso e traumatico passato. Sebbene rimanga per gran parte della storia in secondo piano, emerge sul finale con un prepotente colpo di scena, davvero inaspettato e commovente, che porterà passato, presente e futuro a scontrarsi e, getterà le basi per il filo conduttore degli altri libri della serie.

Non vedo l'ora di conoscere gli altri protagonisti e le loro storie nei prossimi volumi della serie. Alla fine del romanzo mi sono detta che devo dare una chance a quest'autrice, dato che da mesi nella mia libreria ho un suo romanzo che ho iniziato ma non sono mai riuscita a finirlo, perchè magari mi bastava solo girare un'altra pagina e mi sarei ritrovata coinvolta nella storia. Lo stile della Leigh è scorrevole e enigmatico, il finale lascia spiazzati, perchè io avevo immaginato tutt'altro. Vi invito ad acquistare questo romanzo e leggerlo con interesse perchè merita veramente.

This was a short sweet Lora Leigh story about a girl in hiding after her kidnapping & torture as a teenager. Cooper is a bad guy who owns a bar & lives next door to Sarah( a nipple pierced virgin). She has the hots for him, he has the hots for her. Now it's a matter of getting together.
It was a good story, but I was totally unhappy with the ending... Nothing happened... Oh well. BUT I love Lora Leigh, so all is forgiven! Worth it!

In passato ho già letto altri libri della Leigh, quindi sapevo a cosa andavo incontro leggendo questo. Quello che a differenza degli altri non ho molto apprezzato è stata la continua attenzione al sesso. In alcuni casi troppo presente.
Sarah e Ethan sono vicini di casa, si conoscono così quando lei si trasferisce nella porta accanto. Fin da subito tra loro ci sarà una forte attrazione, ma non andranno mai oltre la semplice chiacchierata. Man mano che il tempo passerà però sono sempre più attratti, e finalmente scopriranno le loro carte.
La voglia dei due di stare insieme li travolgerà, ma perché c’è un ma. Le cose o meglio le persone a volte non sono quello che sembrano. Infatti, la nostra Sarah racchiuderà un segreto che potrebbe cambiare per sempre questa storia. Quale? Ovviamente sta a voi scoprirlo.
Onestamente questo romanzo non mi ha colpito. Quello che ha davvero abbassato il mio giudizio è stato l’inserimento di scene di sesso anche in momenti ‘tragici, in cui obiettivamente, nessuno si mette a fare roba. Questo inserimento forzato mi ha un po’ delusa, anche perché ha tutti i buoni propositi per essere una storia accattivante.

Avevo già letto delle novelle di questa autrice e come avevo detto allora la sua particolarità secondo me sta nel concentrare in poche pagine una storia convincente, dalla trama che seduce e che spinge il lettore ad una lettura veloce ma intensa.
E’ vero che nonostante la trama regga per un’appassionata come me del genere, gli eventi si svolgono troppo velocemente e di conseguenza anche se si riesce ad essere coinvolti nella storia, si ha la sensazione di una toccata e fuga.
Detto questo la scrittura fluida, intensa e passionale dell’autrice ti porta a terminare la lettura in poche ore, lasciandoti addosso come sempre quel brivido o meglio quella bellissima elettricità data dai suoi protagonisti maschili, sempre molto rudi e forti.
Le scene erotiche descritte non sono mai volgari, in questo l’autrice è molto brava, riesce a trasmettere attraverso le parole, le più intime emozioni e sensazioni dei suoi personaggi.
Insomma se amate le storie veloci che arrivano dritte al punto e caratterizzate da personaggi forti che vi faranno vibrare, non potete perdervi questa lettura.

Lora Leights Kurzgeschichte passt super zu den Lust de Lyx Sixpacks. Ihr Kurzroman ist flüssig, spannend und nicht zuletzt erotisch geschrieben. Die Autorin bedient sich an vielen Klischees der Jungfrau in Nöten und spielt mit den Sehnsüchten der Leserinnen. Möchten wir nicht alle einen Beschützer, der immer ein waches Auge auf uns hat, auch wenn wir es nicht wissen? Ich muss gestehen, mir fehlen bei Kurzromane immer Details, die einen Roman rund machen. So auch hier, aber die Geschichte ist spannend, die Wortgefechte witzig und die erotischen Szenen heiß.

This one could have potential to be a full length novel instead of just a short novella. Cooper is a hardened man. He owns a seedy car, was an Army Ranger, and well he cant keep his eyes off his neighbor.
Sarah has her own secrets. She has a very horrendous past and when her secrets come to light. The relationship between the two is gonna get interesting. It was spicy and interesting to read.

This is the one that started it all (for me) I read an excerpt for this book in a magazine (can't remember which one as it's been years) and went out and bought the book the next day and the rest they say is history. I have read almost everything by this author and always wait impatiently for the next one.

Sarah is trying to fit in a small town, lusting after her neighbor a former Ranger who was injured in the line of duty. He starts lusting for her hard after seeing her in a compromising position in her back yard. It's hot and steamy, with lots of chemistry and of course a bit of danger to allow her man to keep her safe.

Una lettura scorrevole, intensa e con dei personaggi davvero interessanti: Ethan e Sarah sono decisamente profondi sotto molti punti di vista dopo tutto ciò che hanno passato ma mai pesanti.
L'unica pecca di questo primo capitolo di serie è che la storia è stata troppo affrettata ma pur sempre piacevole.

this was very sexy and steamy... i liked Cooper's and the heroine's meeting and interactions ... but the part about her (dead) dad coming back made zero sense. .. . IT was all so very cloak and dagger, terrible stories about Gio , only for this mafioso to come back and be a gentle teddybear ?! Ending was very weird, like someone pasted the ending of a different book....

Un romanzo breve molto carino, si legge in poche ore. Il tempo di staccare e di immergersi in una storia che vede come protagonisti una ragazza in fuga ed un ex ranger abituato a imporre ordini e comandare.. Un giusto mix scoppiettante di scintille.

I really enjoyed this hot sexy tale with likeable characters.
You start off believing Sarah is this prim virgin with body piercings but boy does she have one hell of a background.
Loved all these other wounded vets’ characters. Pity Miss Leigh has not continued with more books in this series.
