**My full review here**

Over the course of my book reviewing career/hobby/whatever-you-wanna-call-it, there have been a couple books/series that have made me wish that I was HUGE in the book blogging world. Why? Simply because I wish I could skyrocket these books to instant popularity. The Mapmakers Union (and all the books in its series, The Doorknob Society) truly are spectacularly entertaining books. Not just for "young adults". I am *ahem* almost in my mid-30's, and I love, love, love the series. If I could get a review into the right hands (or eyes, as it may be), I honestly feel as if these books would be just as big, if not bigger than Harry Potter or The Hunger Games.

Ok, enough with the "wishing". This series gets better and better as it goes along. I really can't get into details on this one, as I'll give away too many spoilers. I'd LOVE to be eloquent enough to give a good review without "geeking out" and rambling on and on, but....I'm not. When I get super excited about a book, I'll just talk (or type, as the case may be) away and give away all the good parts. Please, just take my word.....The Mapmakers Union does not disappoint. My ONLY disappointment is that I have to wait for the next book!!!

The Doorknob Society was good; The Impossible Engineers was better, but The Mapmakers Union was freakin’ awesome.

For the first time in this series, Chloe didn’t drive me crazy. She wasn’t annoying. She didn’t think too much and I most of all, I connected with her from start to end.

The story starts off with a reckless Chloe as she struggles with the loss of one of her closest friends, Nightshade. I completely felt her pain and was mourning right along with her. She keeps herself busy taking risks, completing secret missions, and in the process, she ends up shutting out her friends.

The Mapmakers Union is packed full with action, betrayal, heartbreak and heart-racing moments. You can’t help but feel for Chloe and her gang of friends as they continue their fight against the First Kind.

One of the things I love about these books is the loyalty between Chloe and her circle of friends. Even when they are at odds, they all still come through for each other.

This book kept me guessing until the end. When I turned the last page I was giddy and completely broken. Talk about conflicting emotions. I’m absolutely dying for the next book. I NEED to know what happens!

If you haven’t read The Doorknob Society Series yet, then you are missing out.

WOW is all I can say about this book. The latest installment of The Doorknob Society Saga will not disappoint! Chloe Masters gets better with each book. I won't give away any spoilers, but I will tell you, your heart will break. You feel Chloe's pain at Nightshade's death. There are more twists and turns in this book than in the previous books. You delve more into the personalities of each character. They are getting older and more in control of their personal powers. There is some sadness in this book, I won't give anything away, but If you read the previous books, you HAVE to read this one!

I cannot wait for the next installment of this series! M.J. Fletcher is an awesome writer! I have a very particular child- very particular about what he reads. He's asked me to mention that these books, and The Mapmakers Union in particular, are "better than Harry, Percy and Katniss combined". As far as I am concerned, any author that can make my child want to read more is great!!

To summarize, love the book, love the author, can't wait for the next book!

Review: 4 ½ out of 5 stars

The Mapmakers Union was kindly provided to me by the author, M.J. Fletcher in exchange for my honest review and is the third book in The Doorknob Society saga.

I must admit, I was left reeling at the ending of The Impossible Engineers; with the death of a much loved character and Chloe losing her memory thanks to the Forget Me Not things weren’t looking too rosy but I should have known to trust Mr. Fletcher and his master storytelling to make things ‘right’ or as right as they possibly could be.

Chloe Masters isn’t in the best place, she is on a downward spiral and at a loss; she is feeling betrayed, lonely and understandably heartbroken so is pushing those closest to her away. She is staying busy by doing secret projects for her father as well as working with another Polymorph and his crew trying to gain information on the missing Old Kind artifacts.

The Mapmakers Union is filled with ongoing action, mystery, betrayal and heart break; you can’t help but feel for Chloe and what she has been through and the journey she is yet to embark on. She goes through pain and grief but she is also learning along the way and growing as a character.

The secondary characters played a big part in this story but it was Edgar who was the real stand-out and I am curious to see the outcome of what occurred in the next installment. A few characters shocked me – Faith, but others were a real surprise, especially Val.

The Doorknob Society is a series which definitely gets better with each book; there are no in-betweens or fillers only improvements and progressions which I absolutely love.

Fletcher has crafted an original world in a wonderful setting, memorable and likeable characters, and a fantasy tale full of intrigue and mystery. His writing is entertaining and I find myself absolutely glued to the pages once I start.

Thank-you to M.J. Fletcher for providing me with a copy of The Mapmakers Union, I am definitely eager to read the next book in this wonderful series – The Detective Inspectors which has an anticipated January 2013 release date.

( This review was orignally posted over on my blog, Book-A-Holic )

Again, MJ Fletcher just keeps blewing me away. The amazingness continue in the third book in the Doorknob Society where normal life couldn't be be on the same page with Chloe Masters. Wow! This series was just full of twists and turns and I really admire how the author was able to keep it all together and going on in this pace and orgnization, it just seemed so put together and authentic.

There are INCRIDEBLE things that I wouldn't be able to give away but the connections with the characters keeps growing here - mainly with Chloe. The ending which was crazy in a good way went a little bit on the hasty side and it's something I'm starting to recently notice that most authors do unfortunately.

Overall, if you didn't already start reading this series then you HAVE TO! And this book was nothing less but I just wished for some romance and after what we got in the first two books it was hard for me to go through one without any. A definite page-turner, heart-wrenching and poigant story with an eventful storyline that would keep you getting through the pages like crazy, eager to know what's next. Can't wait for the next installment of this series!

My original two complaints, editing and swearing, are still present for this book but I found I was able to ignore them for the content.

Chloe still struggles with relationships and in fact pushes people away more so in this one. I love the element of her friendship with Edgar, the limits of her friendships with Val and Jess, the reconciliation process with Slade and the absence of Nightshade.

In fact, the use of his absence, her grieving process and flashbacks were what made my heart grow that much fonder of his character. I love the spotlight on Edgar and the use of this time to focus on the main plot and other characters’ development. I found Chloe to be less obnoxious in this book.

Themes of betrayal in trust in a character who already struggles relationally were great choices in my opinion to unfold at this point in the story. It added much depth to Chloe’s character. I would say she is probably most developed in this book.

I found the ending for this book to be a little bit abrupt and the hook was not at the end but rather the overall building plot and relationships that made me but the next installment as soon as I finished this book.

An exciting continuation to the story. Chloe is still bravely fighting for her friends- the good thing is that they find Nightshade, the bad thing is he has been brainwashed and can't remember a lot of things. Her mother continues to be a witch and takes away her dad. Will Chloe survive all of this? You have to wonder why they fight and fight and yet only certain people die from their injuries when it seems they take on pretty serious hits. I guess it is the power of the pen, but seriously, Chloe needs something to go in her favor. The one bright spot is how Slade has realized he can help her and they can be friends. He is a good one to have in her corner. Looking forward to reading the next book.

Just when you think that Chloe Master's life couldn't get more complex, it does. She is mourning the loss of friendships from the second book and dealing with trying to save the society of the Doorknob Society and other sects of her society. (I wish I were creative enough to think of another word that society, bit redundant.)

She has so many issues to deal with, and unfortunately for her it's just going to get worse. Everyone is after her, fingers are pointing, blame is being laid and she takes it well.

I am enjoying this series completely. There are some grammatical errors and swearing, but other than that, complete and total entertainment.

I would buy ALL these in paperback IF HE'D GET AN EDITOR!!!! This series is a "steampunk Harry Potter". But the poor editing/total lack of editing damn near kills it all! I want to pass these along to my sons, but do not want to subject them to the errors. I want to get them INTO reading, not frustrate the crap out of them. As an adult, I can look past the errors, but when I spend more time highlighting errors than reading, it makes it hard to stay in the book. Seriously, get an editor!!! I would recommend this series to everyone within my world IF they get edited!

In "The Mapmakers Union" we continue on with Chloe's adventures which include a death and new characters. MJ Fletcher continues to captivate me and surprise me. His character development is consistently strong which is a rare find in a series. Highly recommended for all magickal, mystery suspense fans.

The story continue to get more involved with twists and turns that I didn't expect. Nightshade and Edgar play even bigger roles in this book, and Chloe's challenges get even greater. Val becomes a more active part of the group too. I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens to the group of friends.

Chloe and her friends are once again involved in missions of the impossible. After the misadventures of book two they are more determined to bring down the first kind. MJ Fletcher seems to have mastered the art of ending a book leaving you wanting to know more. I am enjoying the world and adventures this author has created.

Great series

I love the action that goes along with character development, Chloe, Edgar, Nightshade, Jess, Val and even Slade is growing on me again. Poor Chloe, I cried for all she has lost but cheer her on as she keeps fighting. There are always moments to make you smile too, though.

So good. Just keeps getting better with each book. Now I'm sad though because I got to wait until January for the next book. It may only be a month away, but hey that is still just way to long to wait!
