Good all-ages series that interleaves nicely to the 2010-2012 (and as of 2019 I guess, now ongoing on HBO!) Cartoon Network animated series. I actually read the Young Justice Book 2: Growing Up version on hoopla, which is Vol. 3 and this Vol. 4 of the paperback editions.

Mostly occurs just before season two starts, with mass kidnappings of superheroes from Earth and the arrival of the silver-age Brainiac-3 "Collector of Worlds". A short follow-on adventure with Miss Martian, Superboy, and Beast Boy.

Trivia points -- this wraps up the comic book series. It is set on Earth-16 so that the DCAU writers could fiddle a bit with the timelines and give us more bang on their vision.

3.5? The art is fine, the stories aren't bad, but it didn't wow me. I appreciated that it tried to bridge the (entirely unnecessary and infuriating) gap between season 1 and 2 of Young Justice, but it really didn't fill the gap very much. The past stuff is just related to a birthday party, not really necessary or informative, and a very forgettable assassination attempt followed by the murder of Beast Boy's mom which implies why he joined their group and is so worked up about the current assassination attempt. The current/future stuff is another assassination attempt and two alien attacks that I don't recall being followed up on in the second season, but honestly I don't think I ever saw all the episodes of the second season because I disliked the time jump so much. I think there were a lot more important gaps that maybe could've been explained if they knew this was the end of the comic series. I agree with other reviewers who thought the third volume was a better end for the series, this has a different feel and doesn't offer any closure.

As much as I love all things Dick Grayson which should bump the rating up for this volume, I mostly felt concern for how sexually active he seems to be. I'm sure I'm a prude and the murder mystery I've been listening to for book club may be shading my thoughts toward abuse, but this is a kids' comic, like previous issues have been made into learn how to read hardcover books, what's it doing implying Dick woke up with one women (who isn't close enough to know his age or that it's his birthday OR REMEMBER THEY WERE SCHOOLMATES) and going to bed with another? Plus he made out with some exs in between just for fun. If there hadn't been those alien attacks who knows how his day would've progressed... Nothing is more explicit than a kiss, but still.

I wish this series weren't ending! Especially since the show is almost over (Damn you CN! Damn you DC! Damn everyone responsible!). I hope eventually we'll get at least a comic series like this to continue the story. It won't be quite the same without the fantastic animation and action sequences the show delivers, but it is better than nothing.

If you haven't seen the show yet, I would recommend reading this volume first as it bridges the 5-year gap between the first and second season. I know I found the jump disorienting for several episodes, and while I still have more blanks I wish were filled in, this volume makes the story feel more cohesive. I think this one is a must for any fan of the show.

Especially if, like me, you are a fan of Dick Grayson & Barbara Gordon, as this volume takes time to explore their relationship.

This book collects Young Justice #20-#25. The second season of Young Justice was set five years after the first. This series seeks to fill the gap. It tells two separate stories: One, an event that happened just after the end of Season One and the second is an event with multiple alien invasions occurring at the same time, days before the start of Season 2.

Overall, this is a solid book. It's certainly not essential as you can understand the TV series without it, but it allows you to see events the TV show only hints at which makes it a winner for fans of the series. The book can be a bit confusing. That's not helped by the multitude of characters or the fact that the comic is trying to tell both stories over the course of six issues, so it's easy to get lost.

Still, this is an enjoyable book with a lot of Easter Eggs to reward fans of Young Justice.

Love this volume so much. The amount of Nightwing made me very happy. His character is so pleasant to read. And I ship Dick and Kory so hard, but I still enjoyed Dick/Babs quite a bit. I love that in this iteration Nightwing still gets around. (You dog, Grayson.) The constant time skips were confusing but I still loved it. I hope that they continue with these tie-in comics when season 3 airs.

This tries to put together some of the missing pieces between season 1 and 2 of the show, but really only covers fragments of those pieces. I did enjoy the Dick and Barbara storyline though :)

This trade collects issues #20-25 of Young Justice (the tie-in comic for the animated series, not the original comic of the same name).

The Young Justice animated series was a fantastic original interpretation of the DC Universe featuring its young heroes as a covert ops team for the Justice League. It ran for two seasons before it's unfortunate cancellation and told intricate, long reaching story arcs in each. This is the final volume of the companion comic, which instead of telling unrelated stories in the same universe has been used to fill in the gaps and add background to the stories told in the show. The comic is slightly more character focused where the show is more plot driven, so they compliment each other well and each play to the strength of the format.

These five issues form a single story called Invasion that shares its name with the second season of the show.
It follows parallel, complimenting stories set in late season 1 (team year zero) and just before season 2 (team year 5) respectively. Dick Grayson is the central point of view character, but a lot of characters from both time periods get to shine. This includes YJ members, some of their Justice League counterparts, villains both new and familiar, and a variety of supporting characters.

It's a very grand story and tries a little too hard. There are two major new threats to deal with just in the year 5 part framed against a complicated struggle with and old foe with political ramifications in year zero. This is on top of addressing a ton of open plots from the show and dealing with membership recruitment. It's reasonably well executed but is a bit too much. Still, it all fits logically both with itself and everything in the show it's trying to explain, which is a nice accomplishment by Weisman.

Also worth mentioning is that despite featuring "younger" heroes YJ is a mature and dark show in parts, and that atmosphere shows more than ever in these issues.

These issues have extremely close ties to plotlines from the animated series. While it is a complete story and stands ok on its own, its main purpose is to add context to things from the show and reveal events leading up to the beginning of season 2. Having familiarity with the show and the characters adds so much depth you'd be missing a lot without it. I'd recommend being at least a couple of episodes into season 2 before reading this.

In contrast the previous trades of the comic, while good, are not required prerequisites at all.

Young Justice: Invasion isn't perfect but when a comics biggest flaw is being overly ambitious in scope you still end up with something well worth reading. It's a decent end cap for a universe that will be missed.

This reminds me of why I enjoyed the TV Young Justice and was sad to see it end. It's a good tribute to both seasons with the action going back and forth between the two teams, and the focus on Dick was an added bonus.

Oh man, this volume has too many crises going on and then the whole back and forth between Year Zero and Year Five... Suffice it to say that it took effort to make sense of the whole thing. However, I really liked The Collector of Worlds and his sass. Also, finally some Dick/Babs aahhh.

Why did this have to end so fast?!? You better come up with new comics for the 3rd season, DC (please).
I enjoyed this so much. I tried to read it slowly because I didn't want it to finish, but it was so good. The art, the style and the story were really good and catchy.
I loved that this comic was mainly focused on Dick Grayson (Nightwing), one of my favourite characters. It was great to see him as a protagonist, for in the show he doesn't appear as much as I would have liked.
The only thing that left me a bit confused was the sudden change of the invasor's minds. Other than that, this was a great comic that I recommend to everyone, especially to the fans of the series.

And it ends with Dick hooking up with Barbara. Someone had a pretty great 19th birthday lol.

I loved everything about this but that's because it centered around Dick Grayson and I love the hell out of him.

But I need the world to let him be the bisexual polyamorous king that he is.

Only thing that kinda got me mad is that Metropolis gets surrounded in a dome/sphere just like in King's Under the Dome, which I'm also reading right now and I maybe just coincidentally spoiled myself for the ending of that book.

But I still love Dick Grayson so this isn't getting anything lower than a 5 star rating from me.

No sooner have Nightwing and Wonder Girl greeted the new Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, that Metropolis is quickly captured by the mysterious Collector of Worlds - and with Earth's strongest heroes captured by alien Commander Kylstar, the team will need to act and think fast to protect the city! Weisman will keep fans of his Earth-16 narrative entertained with an excitingly tense web of missions, with a tight array of Easter eggs and comic charm to be enjoyed with every reread. How will the Team fend off a foe that can think so many steps ahead of them?!

Yet again these comics are really good for fans of the show as they help explain and expand on things that the show could not focus on. Like showing how Blue Beetle joined the team, what happened to Beast Boy for him to join the team. Also really cool to see villains like Brainiac even if I wish he was in the show.

probably the worst story in this entire run stretched out to six issues, and it goes back and forth in timeline and location so often that it gets confusing if you put the book down for a couple days
its not the worst young justice story EVER (that dishonor goes to dark crisis young justice) but you might just be better off avoiding this book unless you're just that obsessed with the show

I didn't like this one as much as the first two, because it didn't teach me much about the characters. I really liked the flashbacks to Dick's birthday party though, and I finally figured out who Barbara is. Wally was barely in this though, which was a big disappointment.

Vol 4 fills the gap of between the 5 year gap of the animated seasons. I didn't particularly enjoy the artwork but the story was interesting enough to conclude the series.
