30 Words: A Devotional for the Rest of Us

Rate this book
More than anything, our God just wants us to spend time with him. He wants to be in a relationship with us, but for some reason we can’t seem to find the time. The time to pray, the time to read our Bibles, the time to sit and be still with God. In today’s fast-paced culture of instant downloads and drive-through lattes, we learn that faster is better, that slowing down is not an option. But if we look at Scripture carefully, we see that this is the exact opposite of how God has called us to live.

Specialists say it takes 30 days to form a habit. It’s time we made being with God a habit – an unbreakable one. In 30 Words, you’ll find the encouragement to open your heart, mind, and soul to God. Each day you’ll focus on a single word about God and our relationship with him. Full of key verses to meditate on, as well as quotes and teachings from Christian leaders, 30 Words will help you make a habit of spiritual development—one that will transform you from the inside out.

In 30 Words, Jarrid Wilson has a word per chapter for the reader to gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in layman terms in order to grasp the material as spiritual food for the soul.

The first word is "faith" where this word as the Bible tells us pleases God (Heb. 11:6). "Faith is the vision of the heart; it sees God in the darkest of times." I know God has allowed to strengthen my faith and use my faith muscles in the hardest times of my life, where at times, I wondered if there was a way out. Wilson adds, "hearing the Word initiates faith; speaking the Word activates faith; doing the Word demonstrates faith." Therefore, we have to ignite faith and speak forth things into existence as if they already were and living out our faith walk showcases that we believe what we know (according to the Word) and believe what we say.

Wilson shares in the introduction that as the reader reads a word daily, will be edified, encouraged, inspired, and convicted to have a longing desire to serve, worship, and live for God wholeheartedly. I strongly believe that the author set out to do what he wanted to reader to gather from reading this material, as God set him out to write for us to keep enduring and pursing to live for Christ all the way on our spiritual journey.

I love how he states "you cannot replace the irreplaceable--God"! Moreover, I will go back to certain chapters during certain periods of my life, especially on faith, passion, truth, fearless, and extraordinary (where God chooses ordinary people to exemplify his extraordinary power through these chosen vessels).

I received a copy from the publisher via .mobi file to read on my Kindle on my Android device for a review.

I cannot get over how amazing this devotional is. In my life, with my commitments to church, work, and family I don't seem to have the time to sit down with God. This devotional is perfect for me as I can read it in the morning and spend the rest of my day meditating on the message. This helps me to keep Jesus at the forefront of my mind, and in a culture that asks us to push Him away, reading His Word is the best armor there is. I am also a youth group leader and this helped me to craft some of my teachings. Perfect for young adults (and people of all ages), "30 Words" truly is a devotional for the rest of us.

This was a great month's worth of devotions. I tend to not be so into devotionals, as I prefer reading straight out of the scriptures. However, I read Jarrid Wilson's blog and love his words of encouragement and this is just what that is. . .words of encouragement. Each day there is a word, a challenge, and scriptures and some encouraging thoughts to help you through a day. It was pretty cool how there were words on certain days that I just needed to reflect on. It was good. Definitely cool to read if you are in your teens through early 30s.

A very short but powerful devotional book. 30 Words, just one word a day that will make you think, inspire you, comfort you and bring you closer to God and His word.
I will keep this book book near me for quick reference for daily use. It's definitions and Bible passages are a good way to start the day, end the day, or to read when you need some comfort or inspiration. It would also make a nice gift for someone you love.

I loved this book. I really helped me to understand everything that God is and why he sometimes does the things he does. I would recommend this book for someone who wants to know God, but looking for the word in a way that is appealing to the younger generation. Don't get the e-book like I did, I wish I could hold this book in my hands.

One of the most amazing devotionals. Jarrid Wilson tunes into Gods words and opens the doors for so many. 30 Words has changed my life and I have not begun in my word a day journey into it. So stoked. God is good!

Awesome devotional book! The devotions are short but deep, enough to get you thinking without being overwhelming and long. Jarrid has such a great heart for God. He will be releasing another book toward the end of this year and I'm excited for it!

I loved reading through this devotional. It has challenged me to go deeper. My only complaint is that most of the daily "challenges" were posting a specific phrase onto social media. I personally wish there had been more of an actual challenge. otherwise, a great and simple devotional.

Can't wait until he writes something else. Clearly, it had to end, hence the title -- BUT -- I really didn't want it to. :)

30 words chosen by the author, basically a short blog about each one. Lots of regular type questions in response to what his blog. Some note – worthy statements.
