Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

I'm not 100% sure on the order these two stories fall in the timeline (Facing Facts is first in the bundle implying to me that it's 3.5, but Goodreads has Belonging listed as 3.5), so take that with a grain of salt. However, based on the time references in the stories, I'm going with Facing Facts as 3.5 and belonging as 3.6.

Facing Facts (3.5): Very short, but I loved seeing Chloe going toe to toe against her fears. I also have to admit that I adore Derek and Chloe together. She's come a long way from the girl who stammered and cowered in his presence. And Derek's just Derek. He growls and is massively overprotective but that's the way he is. He wants to protect his pack and he doesn't always stop to think that his orders are a little rough around the edges. Short, but enjoyable.

Belonging (3.6): I *love* that we're getting some answers as to how Derek ended up in the Edison Group's hands. Yes, the answers are light, but we get to meet some of his werewolf family and see how VERY different he is from them. Once again, I love the dynamic between Derek and Chloe and how willing the two of them are to step up to the plate when the other is in danger. As an aside, Derek-narrated stories are some of my favorites. I like seeing his thought processes and ... well, I just like the guy. I want to see more of him. More more more.

Final Thoughts: This is one of my all-time favorite YA series. I'm always willing to step back into this world and spend time with these kids. This bonus pack gets a BIG *thumbs up* from me.

I love this! Facing Facts was in an anthology called Enthralled and Belonging was originally a free story Kelley kid on her Darkestpowers.com site for the fans though she took it down a few months after completing it to put it in this anthology. The first is narrated by Chloe and deals a little with Tori and Simon finding out they're related and also with Chloe coming to terms with using Tori's mother to kill Davidoff. The second is in Derek's pov and deals with the his bio family tracking him down and kidnapping him as well as giving us some insight into how the others are treating him since he changed and how he's dealing with Lauren's attitude. Both are must reads if you're a fan of the series!

I think I'd actually read both of these before, but I never marked them, so here we go!

I definitely read the second one, as it was posted on Armstrong's website. But the first one is confusing me. Maybe I checked the anthology out once and only read that story? Or read it at a bookstore?

Anyway, these are great! I like them better than the first bonus pack because they take place post-book, which tends to be where my interest lies.

Two novellas that are companion stories to the Darkest Powers trilogy. As with the first bonus pack, these stories are not meant to be read on their own, though they are interesting enough even without context, as there is enough explanation to grab a reader's attention.

This was a really good ending. I still have questions but I think I'm happy with the ending the author gave.

I was wondering if there would be a bit of crossover between this series and Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong .

I actually remember Zachary a bit and I'm glad that Derek never had to meet him.

I'm a bit mad at this family for kidnapping him but happy that he at least now knows who they are.

His cousin is a piece of work though.

Chloe and Derek are so cute together!

I feel bad for Tori having to find out that her father is Kit and that she is a half sibling of Simon's though. :(

I really looked forward to read these bonus stories and I thought they were amazing :D

Facing Facts tells what happens when Tori finds out that Kit isn't just Simon's father, but her father as well.. But unfortunately the story doesn't really deal with her and Simon's emotions about this revealed secret.
It was nice to read another story from Chloe's POV, but from al the bonus stories I have to say I liked this one the least.

Belonging is a funny story about Derek's wolf family trying to kidnap him. I liked this story because it was written in Derek's POV. He loves Chloe just so much and it's really cool to experience their love from his perspective. It's also interesting to meet other werewolves :D

Facing Facts is short story #3.6 in the Darkest Powers YA Paranormal Trilogy by Kelley Armstrong. I loved this story and I so missed Chloe and Derek. In this story, What I loved about this story, was reconnecting with the characters. Their personalities are so clear and well written, that I was swept into the story immediately. Great job, Kelley! Keep 'em coming.

Great fill in. Super cute ending.
I'm digging this series.

2350: Wait a second. That's it?! This is the end of Chloe and Derek and Simon and Tori and the Edison Group?????? No. Unacceptable. This better be a joke.
Imagine this - I finish reading, write that quick review up there then get ready to open up the next book only to find that I accidentally added The Calling and The Gathering to my Darkest Powers Collection on my Kobo.
Does their story continue there or is it all over? I'm at a loss right now... devastated. Piss poor way to end the story, Kelley! I want more. And if you did give more and I just haven't gotten there then thanks a bunch!

Two reasons to read Darkest Powers Bonus Pack 2:

1) I love seeing Chloe and Derek interacting. They're two characters who couldn't be more different, yet put them together and it just works.

2) Belonging is one of my favourite short stories of all the ones Kelley Armstrong has written. It's told from Derek's POV and is about him getting kidnapped by his biological family. That immediately has my attention.

One drawbacks Darkest Powers Bonus Pack 2:

1) Facing Facts is too short to really get into, so the story felt incomplete. I would have liked to see more of Tori interacting with Kit and Simon both before and after the news.

Belonging was a good story, we were able to see a little more of Werewolf pack dynamics and Chloe showed her usual skill of somehow getting of danger unscathed. Facing Facts tied up a few loose ends and provided a little more closure, also more Derek and Chloe so I was happy.

She is too kind to Tori so I was glad what she did for herself and I feel weird about Derek rejecting them. He does deserve to have contact with them and be with them

This Bonus Pack has a short story from Chloe's POV that was originally published in the Enthralled anthology, and a novella from Derek's POV. Both take place after The Reckoning. So we get to see how their life is after the series main story ended.

Facing Facts - Chloe's POV

In Facing Facts, it's been a month since they were reunited with Kit and Lauren. Kit feels this is the time to inform Tori that she's his biological daughter. She doesn't take the news well and storms out of the house. Chloe volunteers to talk to her, but Tori is hurt that Chloe suspected the truth a didn't say anything to her. That friends don't keep that kind of thing from each other. She runs away from Chloe, but Chloe gives chase. Tori runs toward the one place she knows Chloe can't follow her: an abandoned house.

Derek tracks Chloe to the mall where she saw Tori run, but it turns out that Tori really did go into the abandoned house and it was the ghost of her mother, Diane, that lead Chloe to the mall.

Diane is still trying to control Chloe and knows that she still feels guilty for killing her and then using her zombified body to kill Dr. Davidoff.

What I loved most about this short story was how Chloe stood up to Diane, declaring that she will not be controlled and that she's not going to feel guilty anymore for killing her, because it had to be done and Chloe wouldn't want anyone else to shoulder the guilt that came with it. Then she gives Diane a big mental shove, sending her back to the other side. That moment was just really awesome and I liked seeing how strong Chloe's becoming.

Belonging - Derek's POV

In Belonging, we learn that Derek really is Zachary Cain's son and the Cain clan intends to claim Derek as he should have been when he was young. But their motives aren't all for Derek's benefit. They've been told how smart Derek is and how fast he is coming into his powers. If the Cain's have Derek, it would make them a serious threat to the Pack.

Back at the escapee camp, Derek and Chloe's three month anniversary is coming up! Chloe's off at the mall with Tori and Derek is feeling the anxiety of not being there to watch over her. And his anxiety isn't unwarranted this time, Carter Cain is moving in on Chloe!

Once a week, Derek and Chloe go into the woods so he can work on Changing on command. While he's trying to Change, Derek thinks back to the first time Chloe stayed with him when he first started Changing behind Lyle House. It was the first time he saw someone he could imagine as a friend, besides Simon. Now, though he's Changed around others before, it's never as comfortable as it is when it's only him and Chloe. Derek manages to Change, but it's during their hide and seek game that the Cains make their move.

In this novella we see how strong Derek and Chloe's relationship has become. I loved how Chloe didn't let the Cains take Derek without following them back to where they were staying. The only backup she had was Liz, and she's a ghost, although a pretty dangerous one. Derek and Chloe will do anything to protect each other. I was worried for a bit that Derek would want to stay with the Cains, but I was relieved to be wrong. I loved the anniversary gift Derek got for Chloe, although it was kind of disappointing that we weren't told what she got for him.

What I like about both Facing Facts and Belonging is that they take place after the end of the main story. We get to see what's going on with everyone after they escape together. I can only hope that Kelley Armstrong chooses to write novellas like these for the Darkness Rising series too.

The Darkest Powers Bonus Pack contains 2 short stories that take place AFTER the events of The Reckoning, the final book in the Darkest Powers Trilogy. I loved this novella as much as I enjoyed the series - it's even more enjoyable than the first bonus pack! I can't recommend it enough for fans of the series...especially fans of Chloe & Derek ;)

So the first story in this novella is called Facing Facts and it is a short story told from Chloe's POV. As much as I enjoyed the previous Bonus Pack short stories, none of them were from Chloe's perspective. As soon as I started reading Facing Facts, it made me realize how much I'd missed her. As a character she does quite a bit of growing up in the Darkest Powers series, so seeing her in this story was really sweet. I thought she was really awesome all around in this one, especially considering what she deals with at the end there. The plot largely deals with certain facts about both Tori's parentage and how they affect the group as a whole. It does a nice job of answering some lingering questions I still had after The Reckoning. I think this is my second favorite Darkest Powers extra, coming in after....

Belonging! Belonging is also a short story that takes place after the initial trilogy, but this one is told from Derek's POV. I loved all the short story from his perspective, well because I freaking love Derek so much. This one is easily the one I enjoyed the most because in this one Derek's feelings about Chloe aren't at all confused - they're clear and out in the open. One word: adorable! I had a perma-smile on pretty much all the time as I was reading this one. The intrigue of this one rests on Derek's Wolf family finding out about him and wanting him to take his rightful role within their pack. Again the plot builds on things brought up previously in the original story arc so it's a great way to get some added perspective on the story...while spending some bonus quality time with Derek!

I really loved reading this little extras - they're a quick and worthwhile read for any fans of the series! 4 stars.

I really liked this little set. Belonging answers a question most of the readers had about Derek's biological family and what would happen if he was exposed to them. I really enjoyed the little bits of Chloe/Derek we see as they develop their relationship and it was saddening to see Derek so completely close the door on his chance to connect with his werewolf family. His motivations are understandable but it's still a little sad; I also can't help but wonder what would happen when/if the Pack finds out about him.
In Facing Facts we get to see how Tori is dealing with news about her parents. What I love about Tori is that the author never bends into the temptation but making her more likable by shifting her personality. She's a little nasty, a lot impulsive and emotional but she really grows on you. Chloe and Derek try to help her deal with the emotional drama and Chloe ends up approached by a woman she had a part in killing. The story was also a lot about Chloe's coming to terms with her decision to take a life and whether it was the right/only choice she could've made.
Armstrong's teenagers are wonderful. All are believable as teens but also are mature and self aware enough to interest an older reader

The first story, Facing Facts , is about Chloe better dealing with people around her… She’s not the shy girl who’d apologize if something went terribly wrong - she’s sticking for herself both with the living and the dead. It was a very short-story… I would say around five pages, or something… Or 15, tops. Yep, quite fast.

The second story, Belonging , Derek’s confronted with his past, or his true pack. It has some more content in a way, a true vision of a shorty-short-story, but in the end you will know, if you read Darkness Rising Trilogy, their new location… yup, I’m jumping exciting parts, but yet -- you’ve got read it.

The downside for all of this, is that they are very short-stories… and well, they will make you want more new content, and yet, I’m pretty sure, that now it is the true end to this series. C’mom.. they did have a happy ending.

The Darkest Powers Bonus Pack 2 has two short stories - Facing Facts and Belonging.

Facing Facts is told from Chloe's point of view. Kit reveals to Tori who her biological father is while Chloe encounters the ghost of Tori's mother. The story was good but I wish it would have been told from Kit, Tori, or Simon's point of view. Each of those characters have a more emotional stake in the revelation but we didn't get to see their reactions as the story focused on Chloe.

Belonging is told from Derek's point of view as he is forcefully reunited with his werewolve relatives - the Cains. If you're unfamiliar with the Women of the Otherworld series and want to learn more about Derek's biological father, you should read "Bitten" by Kelley Armstrong. Derek is my favorite character in the Darkest Powers series so I love anything that focuses on him. He continues to remind me of Clay as he also doesn't want anything to do with his biological family.

After reading the darkest powers series this book I think is highly recommended because even though the series ended there were still things never told. There are two short stories with in the one book: Facing facts and Belonging. Here's a brief summary of both.

Facing Facts: Told from Chloe's point of view. After being reunited with kit and Lauren, Tori faces the cold hard truth learning that Kit is her biological farther. However I wish it was told from Tori's point of view to get her emotional perspective.

Belonging: Told from Derek's point of view. Derek's biological family the Cains try to take Derek back. Derek has to pick between his blood related family and his adoptive family.

As you all know I'm slightly obsessed and in love with this series. So of course I don't want it to end but I still don't think I want to read the spin off series. These two short novellas gave me a chance to stay in the Darkest Powers world and get some answers to questions that weren't found in the final book of the trilogy. I really enjoyed these two short stories. Any chance we get to see Derek and Chloe together makes me super excited. I really wish Kelley would write another book with Derek, Chloe, Simon and Tori instead of just novellas. I need more of this gang and only this gang.

When I finished the Darkest Powers series, I was a little upset that it didn't continue Derek and Chloe's story and relationship. Then, I found out that there were extra stories to go with the main trilogy and I was stoked. So needless to say, I found these stories amazingly awesome. I'm glad we got to read from Derek's POV. It added more "fun" to the story. All in all, an couple of amazing side stories that officially wrapped things up for me. Too bad there won't be any more though. I could always read more about Chloe and her "gang".
