The Whispers of the Fallen by JD Netto was a fast-paced, heart pounding, and truly breathtaking read. There was never a dull point in the novel, it kept the reader interested with its creative storyline and mindful characters such as Isaac and Demetre. I want to keep this review short and to the point because the sooner your done reading this the sooner you can go out and buy this fantastic book!
When you first open up The Whispers of the Fallen you are immediately thrown into the world of Elysium and Tristar, in which you embark on a journey where it feels as if your really there! JD Netto spent six years working on this book and his hard work definitely paid off.
The plot line of The Whispers of the Fallen is very well developed and thought out because with such a complex storyline there could be lots of places a reader can get confused, but not in this book. One of the reasons this book was so good was the fast paced story line, there wasn’t a dull point in the novel and you hardly had any time to breathe before some other obstacle got in Devin and Isaac’s way. This was a strong element in the book but the only downfall.
With such an action packed book, I had a bit of trouble reflecting back to the beginning of the book because so many things have happened since then. So if a point was brought up in the middle of the book and you had to reflect back to the start of the book, it was hard to do. Other then that I praise this book for the complexity and mystery it brings forth which unravels while you read it in a well, thought out way.
I LOVED The Whispers of the Fallen and I would definitely recommend it to any “angel/ nephilim” lovers out there. If you are a fan of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare you will definitely enjoy this book. You may even recognize some of the characters such as Raziel and Azaziel!

First off let me start by saying the book cover is so cool and matches the book perfectly. I love getting into a new series and this book has blown my mind. Fast paced, action packed, on the edge of your seat shocking moments.
J.D Nettos writing is very addicting! his characters weren’t at all two dimensional. His characters all had a purpose in this book which sometimes doesn't happen in other books so I commend him for that!
My favourite character is definitely Issac. He’s just very awesome. I loved this fantasy book! I loved the aspect of Lucifers diary! that hold the biggest power. I love the Angel aspect too. Another aspect which I barely see in books is t The Whispers of the Fallen is that the second part of this novel is narrated through the point of view of a villain. A VILLAIN! you get to be inside their head and its definitely a different feeling which was amazing.
Tremendous work from J. D. Netto in writing his amazing and so addicting and I have already started the sequel!

I really did enjoy this book even if it was out of my comfort zone. The underlying themes in the story of good and evil and always trying to be your best self were what grounded me to this story! First off let me say that I'm not usually the type of person to write a review of a book. I'm typically too easily entertained to have anything negative to say.
The Whispers of the Fallen has a seemingly strong concept. After reading the blurb for the book I purchased it and its sequel at book con figuring for a quick, easy, entertaining read. How wrong I was. Typically I would sit and read a book if this length straight through overnight. It has taken me three days to read 50 pages,and not for the good reasons.
The dialogue is the main issue I have. Every conversation is terse and formal. Netto has never heard of a contraction which leads to the characters coming off as robotic. It would be ok if this was the way one of the supernatural characters spoke, but every single character is like this and I'm finding it hard to relate to.
e.g.
"I believe they are there" Demetre replied. "I left in such a hurry, I forgot to look for the horses"
Speaking as a 19 year old, this response would be more like, "Don't know, I didn't check" or "I think so, I was in a rush and didn't look."
It isn't that the writing isn't grammatically incorrect, it just doesn't flow well and doesn't come off as believable. I find my immersion being slaughtered every time a character opens their mouth.

I’ll be honest; I didn’t finish this book. I forced myself just beyond 100 pages and figured enough was enough. I had high hopes for it, because I always found the character of Lucifer very interesting and this whole diary idea was a new one. Unfortunately, the execution both bored and greatly annoyed me.
The story completely failed to hold my attention. I think this is entirely because it was really, really predictable. It just seemed dreadfully generic. It also beat me over the head with the Christian idea that God gave people free choice because he doesn’t want sheeple. I get that that’s how they explain bad things and all, but I just felt like a lot of the plot was regurgitated from the original story. My disappointment stems from my initial hope that this was a new take on that.
While the story was dull, the writing was awful to the point where I became agitated. It was painfully repetitive. The one part that sticks out in my mind is when the main character sees two stallions and then informs me they are both male. There were a lot of those “duh” moments for me. And Netto also often uses the same descriptive words. Hopefully, the final draft will trim a lot of that out.
I think this story might do well with preteens, given its simplicity. It would also be beneficial to market it as Christian fiction, because I did not get that from reading just the back cover. Had I known, I would have avoided reading this book as that is not at all a genre of my interest.

First off, I won my copy of this book via a giveaway hosted by Goodreads.
Let me begin by saying this, it was not the content or the concept which prompted my rating of this book. It was the execution. Too much detail where it was unnecessary and too little detail where it was sorely needed. Seemingly random jumps in plot from one thread of action to another with no transition. Transition is critical to stories. It can make or break a good story. I think this story has much more potential than what is utilized in this book. While I can appreciate the cost-effectiveness of having a beta-reader or a friend who is good with grammar and spelling do the proofreading, a professional editor can do wonders for a story. Authors are the creators of these unique gems, but editors are the ones that polish the gems to perfection.

LOVED THE BOOK. THE WORLD THAT J.D.NETTO TAKES YOU TO IN THE BOOK IS OUTSTANDING. ISAAC DEATH MADE ME MAD BUT THEN HIS BACK IN HIS BODY WAS AWESOME. THE COVER IS STUNNING I LOVE IT. ITS JUST SEXY HAHA. MADE ME MAD HOW THE GIRL HELPED HIM IN THE START THEN SHE TURNED HER BACK ON HIM. DAVID IS PRETTY BAD ASS. I LOVE HOW YOU GET SUCKED IN TO THE BOOK. THE LION ON EACH CHAPTER IS STUNNING. I JUST LOVE THE BOOK. I'M STARTING THE SECOND ONE! YAY =]

This book was amazing. I know I shouldn't use that word when writing a book review but whatever. I typically don't read books that take place in a time with castles, but this book had me hooked. I loved the supernatural element to the story. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this story where you didn't know what would happen next with the characters. I liked the fact that this book featured a non-damsel in distress female character, who yes, isn't on team good, but I like that. I like reading books where the female characters don't rely on the men to help/save them. I also enjoy stories where the characters start out as ordinary, and things begin to happen to them that helps them to see a different side to the world/themselves that they are used to. I cannot wait to read the second book in the series!!

What an action packed read. I LOVED IT!! I'm really big on fantasy stories that are based around angels and demons because it has alway really interested me and I immediately get hooked on them if they are written well. And what can I say, J.D. Netto wrote this book brilliantly. It was fast paced and he really made me want to see the good guys succeed and the baddies fail. I also really liked that the book was told from two points of view so you got to see the background of Isaac (one of the leading characters on the good side) but then you got a chance to delve deeper into Nephele's world of being a Nephilin and how she is working with the Fallen Stars to awaken the Dark One. It was just awesome and I cannot wait to buy the second book and start it. How this book ended just made me need to keep reading and reading and reading so i'm off to buy Rebellion! I recommend you all buy a copy of this book and follow him on instagram because I have no reason to tell you why you shouldn't. To quote Benjaminoftomes this book was "unputdownable!" <----- This is actually a word by the way, I looked it up. Read it, love it, become more awesome. It's a win, win guys.

I joined J.D. Netto on his Instagram Book Tour that he is holding right now. I am so happy that I did because I have been wanting to read this series for awhile. I've watched Booktube video review and read some on here.
I really enjoyed this book. I love stories of light and darkness, angel vs demon kind of stories. This book is no exception. It is fast paced and the main characters never really have time to catch their breath. Which understandable if you are trying to hide Lucifer's Diary from the hands of evil.
I did have a little trouble with keeping up only due to its fast pace but you can tell that he poured his heart into this story.
I did love the POV change in the book. I personally loved Nephele's character so it was more exciting reading from her side.
I am very thankful to be on this booktour and now I'm off to read Rebellion!!!

I really liked this book.It reminded me of Lord of the Rings, and the Chronicles of Narnia .I liked that it went from two people's perspectives. It was action packed and dark .Filled was filled with death ,but it had amazing characters and storylines.It was a great read!!The story is gripping and emerges you into the world named Elysium.
Where 6 people need to protect the books(Diary)of Lucifer so that he (Lucifer) does not get his hands on it and end up turning the world into a dark and dreadful place.The story follows Issac and Demetre as they journey to find more about the diary.I can't wait to read the next book.

I have read this book in 6 days as you can see!
So that is a proof that the book is amazing!!!
I really loved the style how it is written.
Like there didn't happen to much at the same time and it wasn't to long .
The plot is the one I like the most, like seriously!
I wanna be a author later but I don't think I can make something like this up!

This book was honestly amazing. I've had it for awhile now and finally red it and I'm so happy I did, I'm about to start the second now.

I went into this hesitantly, because as a Christian I tend to be slightly more on guard with books that deal with God/Satan/angels this closely. However, I've read worse books in the Christian section, so I was able to enjoy it.
This book has a lot of characters (a L O T), but it also has a lot of twists in it. Once you think you know what's going on, something else happens.
The dialogue, especially at the beginning, is somewhat clunky but that's also my weak point so if you can get about 10% in, it gets much better.
I do have one complaint, though. The font on the Kindle edition is...not that great. On my Kindle Fire, it looks really weird and I was constantly distracted by it.
Recommended 15+ for violence, intricate religious things, and some language at the beginning if I remember correctly (I don't have my Kindle with me to check).

Amazingly written. I love how fast paced it is, it really captures your attention from the beginning. I do believe this series is perfect, I read the first book within 2-3 days. Then bought the second. The author, is amazing. The books don't give you an exact time period, but it is hinted as so a possibility, which you must read to find out.

This book surprised me in a good way. I didn't expect it to have as much scary moments, but man does Netto know how to write a scene! Book one does know how to make an impact with the reader and manages to keep you invested all the way through. Safe to say, I'll be reading the other two books.

*I picked up this book, and I kid you not, once I got to page 4 the action started*
J.D. spent SIX YEARS writing this novel before publishing it which is why it's so well written and amazing.

The concept of this book is what really caught and latched me on. The writing is phenomenal and the characters are so well developed it's crazy. Those six years writing it were well spent. I really enjoyed Demetre he was just so amazing. I love his thought process and his personality!
One thing to watch for in this book is the romance aspect. It doesn't focus on romance a lot, if not at all. If your looking for a non-stop action book then definitely pick this bad boy up. This book just surprises/engrosses you from start to finish, and keep an eye out for the sequel being released this spring.
The one thing that got a little confusing is that so much happened, that when it was brought up in the middle or end of the novel you kind of just.....forgot. So that was a little stressful trying to figure out and remember what happened at the beginning. THAT'S HOW ACTION PACKED IT WAS.

The concept of this book is what really caught and latched me on. The writing is phenomenal and the characters are so well developed it's crazy. Those six years writing it were well spent. I really enjoyed Demetre he was just so amazing. I love his thought process and his personality!

The Whispers of the Fallen is the first book in a high fantasy series with both creatures that most readers are familiar with, such as the Nephilim and angels, and creatures that are quite unique to this particular world. The world is built very carefully with layers and layers of details included, which shows that there was a lot of planning done by the author, J. D. Netto, beforehand. The fast-paced journey will certainly leave readers breathless within the first few pages as they try to hold on tight to everything that is happening.
This book follows best friends Isaac and Demetre as they struggle to uncover the truth of their upbringings, their current situation and things that are way beyond their imagination. The novel centers around the Diary of Lucifer and it is certainly not the average book about fallen angels and their offspring, the Nephilim. As event arises after event, readers will definitely be captivated by the perplexing history of this fantastic fictional world, while being enchanted by the vivid imagery created by J. D. Netto.
The character development for the protagonist Isaac is brilliant right off the bat. From a nervous, worried guy to a confident leader, readers will certainly enjoy the transformation of Isaac through the course of the book. The emotions of Isaac such as his fear of the unknown and his determination in success, are all portrayed vividly in The Whispers of the Fallen. However the background information about him prior to the events of this book is not revealed greatly to the readers and this slightly affects the easiness of readers connecting with him at first. Although the background does not affect the plot by a lot, perhaps it might help a bit to give out more information about the lead character. For Isaac’s best friend Demetre, it is rather hard to connect to him and consider him as the readers’ own friend as there is not much about him that readers know of. Here it might be better if there were more flashbacks of their friendship.
What is really intriguing and special about The Whispers of the Fallen is that the second part of this novel is narrated through the point of view of a villain. Books are seldom portrayed through the view of a character that is not similar to the readers and thus this is definitely very special. It does not make it hard to relate and connect to the book and in fact, it makes readers even more interested than ever. Readers will find themselves trying to understand the mindset of the character and hence more eager to follow the story.
The tremendous effort of J. D. Netto in writing his brilliant novel is greatly reflected in the complicated and deeply intertwined plotlines. It definitely helps in capturing readers’ attention and urging them to fly through the pages. It would perchance be even better if the events in the book are paced out so as to make each individual event more memorable for the readers. Otherwise, it would be a waste for the delicate plot lines to happen all in the blink of an eye.

WHAT THE TRISTAR!?
(See that that was a little bit of book humour, you’d get it if you read the book)
Let me start off by saying I picked up this book on a whim at BEA 2013. Walking around like a nut, stopped for 3 minutes to get water and I saw this booth in the distance and I was like, “preeeettttyyyy bootthhhhh”. Clearly I had to go investigate.
And it was a good thing I did!
‘The Whispers of the Fallen’ was a CRAZY FAST-PACED SUPER INTENSE AWESOME RIDE OF FANTASY in the written word that I’ve read so far. Not that many people write about angels, or Nephilin, or Lucifer much these days and yes I did read ‘Angelology’ by Danielle Trussoni. It wasn’t that great. If you’re looking for an easier read, filled with fast paced action, and ‘how the heck did that just happen’ suspense, this book is definitely for you. J.D. Netto has created a world so vast, and so full of detail I can’t wait to read it again to see if there’s anything I missed.
So you’ve got two boys Isaac and Demetre. 18 years old. Caught in the middle of an angelic war that’s about to begin with the uncovering of a hidden diary. The Diary of Lucifer. Two sides will meet on the battlefield, The Fallen Stars and the humans who protect the Diary. The style of the writing is very dramatic, very simplistic, and sounds like the character telling the story is writing a diary or a journal of his own to recall the events he lived through, almost like a memoir. It gives off his very eerie but angelic feel to it like the movie Constantine starring Keanu Reeves.
As my mind came to the realization that I was drowning, something grabbed a hold of me again and pulled me out of the frigid water. As I inhaled, the voices and the throbbing disappeared. When I opened my eyes, the small red lights were gone.
Reading several reviews I’ve noticed others criticize his writing, but after a brief interview, this is what he had to say in response.
“I wanted a fantasy story that was complex but easily embraced. I did not want to come across as a bad writer; I just wanted to be easily understood. To keep the writing style beautiful and engaging.”
J.D. Netto assured me that the second book will be “different, with a darker writing style.” Which I AM SO EXCITED FOR! I can’t wait to read it when it comes out, hopefully sometime next year.

Edit: I did a re-read of this book as it came out with a new cover, artwork and edits from a new publishing house. I enjoyed reading the story the first time around and I believe I liked it even more the second time! The cover is stunning and I believe it ranks up as one of my all time favorites. As you read about the Creator and the story the cover becomes more than just beautiful, but also fitting. The artwork in the book and the map are quite fun and very Talented. I still had a hard time keeping all the characters straight in my mind but this is a great read and a brilliant job of building a new world.

From the cover (gorgeous), to story (captivating), to author interaction(so nice!).. this book, the first in a series, is out of this world good (literally:)-!!) I received this book, as well as the other two, via an Instagram giveaway. When they arrived at my house I was immediately impressed with the quality of the cover, but more importantly I was excited to begin reading them because the pictures on Instagram and captured my curiosity and I had not come across a book that had the premise of Lucifer's diary.
If you enjoy descriptive language that takes you into a new world you will love to experience the world of Elysium. From the beginning of this story until the end I was swept through the travels of the book-keepers, the Nephilins, the Fallen Stars and other mystical beings. The imagery of the Creator and Lucifer was very creative and caused very graphic images of my head (hello the image of the Creator while Isaac first made his decision). This would be an amazing book to have illustrated or if the proper visual effects could be implemented to become a movie. The battle scenes played out in my head with the gore, the despair and for some the triumph. There were twists and turns in the story that stumped the darkness and showed minute victories for the light or goodness. What I enjoyed a great deal was that while the book obviously has these aspects of good, evil, light, darkness, etc. it does not try to preach or become a religious dialogue. By the end of the book I knew I would quickly proceed to book two to see how the different factions continued to rally and wage battle.
I have labeled this book with my Halloween tag solely because of the play on darkness, evil and the different creatures that appear. The actual story does not revolve around or interact with the concept of Halloween:) This book shows the relationship between good and evil, dives deep into the ideas and thoughts friendships, loyalty, doubt, fear, peace and more. If you like stories that suck you into the story line and will make you think I would recommend this story!

This book started off as an intriguing one, but as it goes on, my interest loses, and the more and more I read, it gets confusing and gives me "huh?" moments. Nevertheless, I love the style of writing J.D. brings to the readers because every detail means a better imagination for the readers, and a good imagination means a good book, and his book is that detailed.
The book brings us two first-person point-of-views with completely different characters. I love how those views come from both protagonist and antagonist: Isaac and Nephele respectively. This kind of point-of-view really added some points to the story, for I can get the perspectives from the good and bad side.
The Whispers of the Fallen is all about angels and demons, pretty much like Daughter of Smoke and Bone (at least for me). However, I love how the author incorporated Lucifer's presence in this book, making it cooler and more exciting. The characters aim to find five diaries which have their own protector. One aims to steal all of them, one aims to protect all of them. My own summary doesn't give justice to the real story of the book, so I suggest you read it.
So about that detailed I said before, the author successfully wrote detailed characters and detailed fantasy world. I love how something in the book is exceptionally detailed through a good choice of words. Despite this, some parts of the book are lacking of details. The author just moves on from being too detailed to being not too detailed, and it's just a shame that the concept of this book hasn't been given a good execution.
With that being said, I still recommend this book because it's one-of-a-kind and nothing like much you usually read. From the very first part of the book until the last, this gave me a heart-pumping action-packed awesomeness. This book may be baffling at times because of the major parts being not too detailed and the minor parts being too detailed, but I still recommend this one due to its amazing writing; it's like poetic. Definitely recommend to lovers of angels and demons kind-of type of story.

I'm really struggling to rate this book... I think 3.5 is more accurate... or 6/10?
I liked the concept of this story, good vs evil, the Shadows, the Nephilin, the Stars etc... Death, Lucifer, The Creator... the whole fantasy world that Netto has created has an Other Realm feel to it... and Death is probably my fave character :) but...
The first 70% of the story had me confused in a lot of places... we're thrown into a huge amount of action with lots of characters to meet and get to know, and places to picture... it sets a fast pace and for me personally it was hard to keep up with who was who and what was what...
The writing was good with no grammatical errors noticed... however, emotionally it felt a bit cold... Isaac is the protagonist for the first part of the book, he's just turned 18 and, as an example, although the book speaks of him crying and sobbing, I just didn't feel it... also, the use of formal language makes it hard to get past the impersonal feel... I get it, I really do see why the author has used it... because of the time and place of the setting etc, but it's still something that made this not quite hit the mark for me...
In the second part of the book, the protagonist changes to Nephel which was quite unexpected... once we got to her part of the story there were a lot of things that became clearer... although her voice was very similar to Isaac's, it worked... the emotional thing I mentioned earlier?... it totally works with Nephel... and the concept of reading from the bad guys pov... nice move Mr Netto!
All in all, there were parts of this book I loved, but also parts that I didn't... there were parts I felt were missing and glazed over but hopefully they'll be addressed in the next book...
I have found it quite hard to write this review... I've fangirled over Netto's book trailers, posts and updates on both Instagram and Twitter and you know what? He's totally such a nice guy!... he loves his fans and he absolutely loves what he does and for that Mr Netto I commend you...

Let me start this book review with this: I loved this book!!!
From the very first page The Whispers of the Fallen grasped my attention. I felt like I was witnessing all the events Isaac and Demetre were going through. And that's what made me love this book as much as I do.
J.D Netto did an amazing job with The Whispers of the Fallen. You can tell he did some deep thinking in the processes of writing this book. In TWOTF you will never find a character who is unnecessary to the story. Every single character introduced in this book has a purpose to be in the book.
If your a person who's into a fast paced, action packed, character driven book, then The Whispers of the Fallen is the book for you.
If you are like me, as soon as you begin reading this book you are sucked into the story with the characters, allowing you to enjoy the book so much more.
Isaac is such a badass character and it's hard not to like him from page one. He never let's anything pass him without him getting full understanding of the situation. The friendship between Isaac and Demetre is something I look for in basically every book I read. And TWOTF surpassed my expectations. The way J.D Netto writes also allows you to become in love with the story so much sooner.

Whispers of the Fallen is a fast paced fantasy read about angels, demons and the war between Good and Evil.
The story revolves around two best friends, Isaac and Demetre (18). When they both wake up and find their family gone they don't know whats going on. Before they know it they're in the middle of an epic war in which they are the vital key to both the light and the dark side.
This book kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. The characters are creative and well rounded. I truly felt for them as though I was along side of them fighting!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved that fact that Isaac and Demetre start out as average/normal kids. I grew up reading books where the normal kids could turn into a princess, A Dragon Master or a King. The evolution of these characters from normal teens to anything but normal teens, really drew me.
If you looking for a book to keep you on your toes or your a fantasy fan, check it out!

The Whispers of The Fallen by J.D Netto was a huge thrill to read it had so many twists and turns and the plot line blew my mind he puts so much effort into his book and emphasizes so much into them! The characters Demetre and Issac are two of the most well devloped characters in any book ive read they devlop so much character and i love that! and i cant wait for The Whispers of The Fallen Rebellion! The selection of wording in this book gives you a nice visual of what's happening in that moment its really one of those books that gives you a heart beat and leaves you on a cliffhanger for sure! recommended for anyone that loves fiction and just loves to read this is your book read it now and you wont regret it at all :)
