Sanctuary #6

The Journal Of Sanctuary One

Rate this book
Jake spends every Christmas at Sanctuary 1. From a small child the cabin was home for his family in the special season, and with the third anniversary of his dad's death approaching he arranges for Kayden, Beckett and himself to meet at the cabin a few days before Christmas. When a snowstorm means Kayden is blocked in NY with Beckett, Jake ends up in the cabin on his own.

Sean is being hunted and the only place he can run to is somewhere mentioned in an old journal - the original Sanctuary Cabin. The cabin is no longer in official use but it would be a good place to heal and take stock of just what the fuck is going on with his life.

Neither man is prepared for being stuck together for an entire week, nor for the secrets that threaten to get them both killed.

Must be fabulous if you're gay and work for 'Sanctuary', looking after all those hot men, and mostly being hot yourself! This is the final book in the series so far, and at last gives us Jake's HEA. After watching most of his agents and fellow operatives find their own HEA, he must have been really p****d that his own love life was non-existent, and the one person he would have given anything for to be his partner seemed to be a double-agent, who nearly got some of the Sanctuary operatives killed! This book gave us brief follow-ups to the agents in the other stories (Nik & his partner Morgan, Dale & his partner Joseph, Kayden & his partner Beckett, Adam & Lee and Manny & Josh), as well as what was happening with the Bad Guys of the stories, the Bullen family, and finally, exactly who it was that was really double-dealing the FBI (the alphabets, love it!), Sanctuary and the Bullens (and it wasn't Jake's intended Sean, which I was happy about). I did like this series, and read the books one after the other, but would have loved for them to have been a little longer in length.

Addendum. Book 7 appears in June 2013, woohoo!!

The Journal of Sanctuary One is the sixth installment of R.J. Scott's Sanctuary series. I think we all knew Jake and Sean needed a book and the fact it was together was even better. I loved this and was not disappointed with them at all. I have to admit this was filled with sexual tension for me. These two made me want to scream at the top of my lungs for the first half.

Sean and Jake have been in and out of this series. Jake has always seemed kind of sad and Sean was someone who hurt several characters. I actually was pretty pissed at him myself, but we (or I) quickly forgave him. The relationship with Jake was sweet with a sexy side that left me longing for them to stay together. I think they had a lot of chemistry and started something solid.

This had less to do with the Bullen's and more to do with why Sean did what he did and focused on who hired him etc... For the next book we got a glimpse of what will happen without anything being too obvious or out there. I liked how R.J. set's up her following books in the previous one. It makes things more exciting.

I have no complaints about this. I think if we had waited any longer for these two I would not have loved it. Too much time would have passed and I hate it when that happens. Of course we get another Dale and Joseph book next and I can't wait for that, but I am so glad these two got their story.

Another highly recommended book!

I really enjoyed this one

4.5*

Well that was excellent. I do love me a good old "betrayed but I still fancy/love you" type of a plot a d here it was a cracker.

Sanctuary owner Jake is reeling from the fall-out of FBI liaison Sean being the mole and a traitor when their paths cross at the family cabin in the woods that was tge first Sanctuary safe house.

Of course, things are far more complicated than originally indicated and Sean's not the bad guy he's been playing.

A whole bunch of stuff later and our guys are looking at their own new beginnings and the bad guys are mostly all behind bars!

Oh what a perfect way to wrap up Sanctuary's involvement in the Bullen case. It's Christmas time and Jake and Kayden have a tradition of spending it at the family's cabin in the mountains. This is no regular cabin but the retired Sanctuary One that was built by Jake's father, Max. A winter blizzard keeps Kayden and Beckett stranded in the city so Jake figures that he'll spend the holiday alone. Sean, the believed double agent, is on the run and his boss sends him to Sanctuary One thinking that it will be deserted. Jake is more than a little hostile and angry when the man with all the answers shows up at the door just hanging onto life. There was a time when Jake thought he and Sean may have had something but that had to fizz out. The HEA is still there for Jake and Sean especially when Sean turns out to be a very different man than everyone suspected. I enjoyed the sentimentality that ran through this story with remembrances of times past when Jake's parents were alive. The fact that Jake is totally alone at the cabin when the very last person that he wants to see arrives brings depth to a story that could have been bland. Sean and Jake are forced to communicate and face truths that neither man really wanted to as the week progresses. The range of emotions that both men feel are written beautifully in this very satisfying wrap up story. There was just enough of a future plan for Sanctuary itself that Ms Scott can write stand alone stories in the future. It was good to reconnect with many of the characters from previous books and to get a better feel for the man steering the entire project. This story is a must read for any fan of the Sanctuary series.

What a treat to finally read Jake's story. He may be in charge of Sanctuary, but his personal life is a different matter. In this book he has to confront not only the consequences of some of the threads from across the five previous books, but also his feelings for Sean. Yes, the same Sean who looks a lot like a traitor to the ongoing case against the Bullen family. Jake being who he is, and Sean not willing to compromise either, they are headed for an explosive confrontation within the first two chapters. Fireworks of the professional and personal nature follow, interspersed with new evidence and revelations about the case that just keep coming. This makes for a very wild ride.

Jake is lonely (even if he won’t admit it) and lives for his work. His parents having died in a plane crash a few years back and Jake 'inheriting' the running of Sanctuary from his father has something to do with it, but mostly it is due to the kind of man Jake is. Focused, dedicated, and determined are the positive ways of putting it, stubborn and bull-headed make up the other side of the coin. He also has a weakness for Sean, not that he will acknowledge that in his waking moments. He had just started to trust him when the man betrayed him and everything Sanctuary stands for in the worst way. Or did he?

Sean is in trouble. He is in way over his head. He's had to do a few things he did not like, and they have driven him into a corner. As a consequence he is now being hunted – by everyone – and needs some time to recuperate and gather his thoughts. He has some evidence and information everyone will want to use for their own objectives, and he has no idea whom to trust anymore. Wounded and exhausted he figures out there is only one place he can run that will give him the time and rest he needs. But when he discovers the "deserted" cabin is very much inhabited, he knows he is done for. Or is he?

There are so many questions, twists and turns, and fascinating revelations in this book, that it kept me going "huh?" and "what?" the whole time. The passion between Jake and Sean is explosive, emotions run deep, and the story, while tying up quite a few loose ends, still leaves some questions at the end. Which is good, since there will be another sequel, or so I hear.

If you like stories with men who are as stubborn as they are principled yet ready to kiss each other into oblivion at the least sign of hope, if you prefer your books to be filled with suspense and quite a few revelations, and if you want to know what the newest developments are in the 'Bullen case', then you will probably like this book as much as I did. Once you have read it – the wait is on for the next sequel!

The Journal of Sanctuary One starts with Jake, the owner (and guy in charge) of Sanctuary heading to his family’s cabin in the woods. Its Christmas and Jake is alone, Kayden and Josh being stuck in New York due to the snow and adverse weather. Jake, heart sick at the betrayal of Sean the FBI liaison officer he worked with (and was falling for), and exhausted, just wants some peace, time to sleep and get his head back straight again. What he actually gets is a whole lot different when Sean, on the run from both the FBI, and the Bullens, stumbles onto his cabin, shot and in need of help.

It’s no secret I love RJ Scott’s books, she an amazing writer, and the Sanctuary series is one of her best works. The Journal of Sanctuary One is a fitting end to the series….or is it, something tells me we haven’t heard the last of these guys.

Highly recommended and worth more than 5 stars.

A good wrap up for the series, but I think the novella format is too restrictive for all things the author wanted to say. This is the last book, so I think she could have taken a page or two from Harry Potter series.
What I like:
- there's no dragging on what's the deal with Sean.
- practically all previous pairs returns, with the exception of Joseph, of course, since he's still an active SEAL who's on a secret mission somewhere (Perhaps at Latakia, Syria? :)
- story about Jake's parents

A very good book to end the series with. It was a quick read and I was so enthralled with the story that when I finished reading it I felt I had only began the book 2 minutes ago but in reality an hour and half had passed. Just to warn readers, Sean and Jake are stuck in a cabin for a majority of the book so there's some sappy emotional scenes as they try to rectify their issues. Sean's bombshell pertaining to Jake and his family was unexpected and it was a very nice surprise.

Jake was always my favorite and I am glad he finally got his man. I like the fact that this story was straight forward and not a lot of miscommunications. Sean stepped up to the plate and Jake did the same, they are perfect for each other. I thought this would be the final book, but now i am not so sure.

Overall, a really good read, I do think Jake and Sean fell into bed/love a little too fast considering the history between them, but probably no faster than the other pairings in the series :-)

With a blizzard on the horizon Jake makes it to Sanctuary's decommissioned first safe house - the one his father started the business with. When Sean ends up at his door shot and running from those that want him dead, Jake is left with a decision to either let the traitor die or keep him alive and get the answers he needs. But some are the answers are not what he expected and some feelings are not readily admitted. Can you get in bed with the enemy? I was hoping that the director of Sanctuary would get his story and I was not disappointed with the heart wrenching tale. Emotional overload but i would not put it down for anything.

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Jake has plans of spending Christmas at Sanctuary One with his brother and his partner when snow stops Kayden and Beckett from travelling, now Jake looks forward to a Christmas alone when he is surprised by an unexpected guest. Sean has to lay low and the only place he can go is Sanctuary One, after seeming to have betrayed all around him he has no-one to turn to, but surprising Jake at the cabin he just might be able to turn things around and when he can disclose his secrets he wants to make Jake his own.

Finally we get to see Jake’s story and find out the truth about Sean, is Sean really a traitor? Jake has devoted his life to Sanctuary the company that his father set up, when he discovered that the FBI contact Sean was the leak he was gutted for more reasons than one, finding Sean on the doorstep of Sanctuary One means he can start digging for the truth but what he learns shakes him to the core. Sean has been playing all side because of a promise he made, he wasn’t supposed to get as close to Jake as he did but he couldn’t help himself, now he has the chance to convince Jake of the truth but can Jake forgive him?

This is great story where we finally learn the truth about Sean’s betrayal; we see how Jake was hurt by the deception and how both Sean and Jake are meant for each other. The storyline is brilliant as we see the way that the connecting lines from all the previous books are wrapped up; we finally get to see the Bullens tied up in their own web. The feelings between Jake and Sean are quite intense, with the longing on both side being tangible but both holding off because of the circumstances but as soon as it is clear they are wonderful together. Both these men have struggled with their circumstances, both longing for the other but with Jake unaware of the reason why Sean held back.

There’s danger, hot sex, more danger and the truth being told, a great storyline and a wonderful ending for two stubborn men, so really what are you waiting for?

I was excited when I read there would be another book in the Sanctuary series. The Journal of Sanctuary One by R.J. Scott features Jake Callahan and Sean Hanson. The more books I’ve read in the series, the more I’ve wanted to read Jake’s story. As the leader of Sanctuary, I knew he was destined for love at some point. Seems authors always love to save the leaders for the end! Jake is on his way to meet Kayden and Beckett at their winter cabin to spend the holidays. Unfortunately a massive snow storm means Jake may be all alone. The cabin is the original Sanctuary safe house and holds a lot of memories of Jake’s parents. We learn a lot about the original formation of Sanctuary and the story of their deaths. It was a really interesting addition to the series.

I read Sanctuary 1 through 6 all as one long novel, I think that's about my only complaint with these books, they need to be longer! But reading them as one, gives a better picture of the story arc and how Sanctuary - a private body guard agency set up to look after the cases the FBI or others can't - gets involved with the Bullens, three brothers, two mobsters, the other a US senator. Oh yes, and did I mention the rogue FBI agent, Sean Hanson, who's maybe not so rogue as first painted? All in all, an interesting series, the relationships between the guys in each story works and the overall picture works - looking forward to Sanctuary 7 and the wrap of the story.

Really enjoyed it! my god i was so curious about Sean! why he did what he did, i'm glad it all came to the light.

I always liked Jake a lot, and i'm so glad he got his own book, he deserves some happiness as well :)

These guys seem to be able to turn things on fire when together, and they have the whole "parents of the entire Sanctuary" vibe going on, just really enjoyed their dynamic.

I think I have one more book to go :D yay!!

Finished. Well, it took me some time - and I didn't read something else in between - which shows that I wasn't really immersed in the story. It started out quite ok; I was soon back into the series and looking forward to the further development, but somehow it just lost me. It was flowing along without much highs and lows. The showdown near the end was expected and not really surprising, as well as the conclusion. Perhaps I should have stopped reading this series with book #5.

3.5 Stars. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. And I felt it needed a bit more conflict between them before they finally decided to stay together. But I do like how it ended. Looking forward to Joseph coming home in the next one.

O no?

In the days leading up to Christmas, Jake Callahan retreats to a remote cabin seeking solitude, only to be thrust into a tense and intimate survival scenario when Sean—a wounded stranger with a mysterious past—breaks in, fleeing danger and guided only by a cryptic clue from his father’s journal. As a snowstorm traps them together and enemies close in, Jake and Sean must navigate not just external threats but the emotional scars they carry. What begins as suspicion slowly transforms into trust, and the spark between them ignites into something deeper. In the heart of winter, surrounded by danger, they discover that love might be the only thing strong enough to save them both.

I loved this story with the danger, drama and passion. The snowstorm created physical isolation, but it also striped away distractions and defences. The dynamic between Jake and Sean evolves from suspicion to mutual reliance, highlighting how trust is earned through compassion and shared danger. The story delved into how identity is shaped by both what we remember and what we uncover—and how confronting the past is essential for healing. Set during Christmas, the story uses the season’s symbolism—rebirth, reflection, and warmth—to underscore its emotional arc. Despite the cold and threat, the cabin becomes a place of renewal, where love offers a second chance and the possibility of peace. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
